A/N Sorry its been a while, I kept meaning to post and got distracted every time. The story continues with the two reuniting.
Chapter 7
The Reunion
Ginny smiled and flopped down on her bed in the burrow. 'It's so good to be home,' she thought to herself.
"Ginny, come down to dinner!" Arthur yelled.
Ginny grinned, slowly stood up and hobbled down the stairs.
"Hey sis," Ron said coming up for a hug. "How was Spain?" he asked.
"It was beautiful, but I missed it here," Ginny said, grimacing as she sat down for dinner. "What are you doing here?" she asked while making a plate.
"I'm here to see you. Plus, mums cooking," Ron said and smiled at his mother. "I've had a guy following me around from Canada for work and it's been quite annoying. He's out with Hermione right now, so I thought I would come visit with people who I actually like," Ron said making a plate.
"Oh, how's Hermione doing?" Ginny asked a bit too quickly, "How was her transition back to England?" she added, trying to cover her inquisitiveness over the brunette.
"It was fine. She seems happy here. She missed being in England a lot. Though I don't really like her dating this guy. He's kind of a prat," Ron said, not noticing Ginnys enthusiasm for his old friend.
"I'm sure she's fine. She wouldn't date someone if she didn't like them, she knows how to take care of herself. She lived in New York alone for years," Ginny said teasingly. Ron chuckled and nodded.
"Yeah… He's charming to her face and all, but he's kind of crass about her later. I had to get serious with him the other day saying he better watch what he says about her. That she was my friend, he didn't realize she was my ex either. He's shut up around me, but I just don't like him. I'll be glad when he's gone," Ron said. Ginny frowned, not liking the idea of Hermione dating someone who was being disrespectful to her behind her back. Especially since the redhead had feelings of her own for the brunette.
"What does he say about her?" Ginny asked.
"Nothing polite. Mostly about her being frigid and cold. I think she won't sleep with him, even though he says they have. I'm pretty sure they haven't. He's just a knob," Ron said. "How's your knee?" Ron asked, changing the subject.
"Not much better. Stairs are difficult," Ginny said truthfully.
"You're almost a full fledged healer now. Isn't there anything you can do?" Ron asked. Ginny smiled.
"I'm not yet, but there isn't much that can be done. The bludger basically destroyed my entire knee, Ron. They could regrow the bone and the damaged flesh, but the cartilage and stuff isn't as easy. Plus, the curse that hit it during the battle of Hogwarts left magic residue that has made the healing much more difficult, especially the cartilage. It's a completely different type of material and is much harder to work with," Ginny continued, "It may get better over time, but most likely I'll always have a problem with it. Right now the bone has very little support. That's why I use the brace every day. If I don't the kneecap and stuff will literally wander. It's so painful," Ginny said.
"Sounds complicated. I don't get it, but I'm sure you do. I know very little about healing," Ron said with a jokey smile. The siblings finished their meal in silence.
The next day, a cry rung out of the burrow kitchen window, "Bloody hell, mum!" Ginny shouted with exasperation.
"I'm sorry, Gin. Did I ruin it?" She asked, looking into the cauldron.
"You dropped an egg in it, mum." Ginny said, rolling her eyes. The elder redhead searched around the cauldron with a long spoon for a moment, before finally pulling out the speckled egg she dropped.
"Well,… I scooped it out," Molly said. Ginny stared silently for a moment and then laughed.
"Well, I don't think its going to work. These are extremely difficult potions that need to be done precisely right. I need to do them by the letter and study them, how they look and smell and sometimes taste through different parts of the brewing process," Ginny sighed before continuing, "Accidental egg will throw the entire thing off…..this was a long one, too," Ginny said, ending on a grumble and banishing the fire so she could empty the cauldron to start over.
"I'm so sorry, dear. Perhaps you should think about getting a flat. There really isn't room for us both in the kitchen," Molly said. Ginny nodded.
"You're right, I have the money an all. I would do it upstairs, but…it's just so hard to walk up the stairs. I slept on the couch last night," Ginny said exasperated.
"Oh, Ginny, I'm sorry. I know your term just began and I can't believe they have you brewing already," Molly said, patting her daughter on the back.
"This is not due quite yet, I was trying to get ahead. I'm supposed to go to Hermione's tonight to hang out with the old DA gang, I wanted to get it going just in case I am hung over tomorrow and don't have the time or mental fortitude," Ginny said smiling and Molly laughed.
"I'm sorry, dear …but your potion is now ruined. Why don't you go early? I know Hermione has missed you terribly. She asked about you a lot while you were in Spain," Molly said and Ginny smiled.
"Maybe I will," Ginny said and began to lift the cauldron, then winced and grabbed her knee.
"Ginny! Be careful! Leave this here, I'll have your father deal with it when he gets home," Molly said worried about her daughter.
"Thanks, mum," Ginny said and stepped away from the kitchen and went outside. She smiled feeling the light breeze in her hair and wondered if she would annoy Hermione going to her flat this early. She shrugged and decided to go anyway. She could always come back if Hermione was busy.
She let the wind blow over her for a bit longer, then Ginny turned and walked back into the burrow and flooed to Hermione's house. She landed at the new home and stared for a moment.
"Whoa… this is wicked," Ginny said, looking at the large home that was apparently Hermione's. She stepped out of the fireplace slowly and began to look around. She smiled when she turned a corner and looked through a door into a room that looked like a library. Sitting in a chair in the corner was Hermione, with a book in her lap a cup of tea in her hand and her glasses on. Ginny watched her for a few moments, slowly sipping the tea and turning a page.
"I have missed you so much," Ginny said with a grin. Hermione jumped hearing a voice she wasn't expecting, a smile grew on her face until it beamed out. The brunette put her tea and book down on the table, then quickly hopped from the chair and ran to the redhead and jumped into her arms.
"Hmph," Ginny wheezed as Hermione ran into her hard and wrapped her arms around her. The redhead then gasped when her knee gave out and they fell back with the momentum, Hermione landing hard on top of her. The two lay together for a moment, groaning from the impact.
"Bloody hell," Ginny said with a grimace when she caught her breath.
"Oh Ginny, I'm so sorry! I forgot, are you ok?" Hermione said, leaning up with deep concern on her face.
"I'm fine," Ginny said, but her knee wouldn't stop aching and she grit her teeth.
"No, you're not. I hurt you, I'm so sorry," Hermione said worried.
"No, it's fine, Hermione. I fall all of the time now. This isn't any different. Although, it was much faster," Ginny joked. Hermione leaned down and pulled Ginny back into a hug.
"I'm sorry, Gin," She said into Ginny's neck. Ginny smiled and wrapped her arms around the brunette. "I missed you so incredibly much," Hermione said and Ginny smiled.
"I missed you too," Ginny said and laughed as Hermione didn't seem to want to move. Ginny sighed and put her head down into Hermione's hair, breathing in her scent. She closed her eyes. "Don't leave again for a while," Ginny said.
"I'm not going anywhere. I don't want to be away from you all so long again," Hermione said. Ginny smiled. Hermione pulled herself from the embrace, stood and helped Ginny back up before they went to sit on the couch in Hermione's living room.
The two talked and caught up on everything in their lives until several of their friends began to show up. Ginny frowned when a handsome man she didn't know arrived and Hermione went to him and gave him a hug and a quick kiss. She was about to stand and go meet him, but he waved at Hermione and left. Hermione came back to sit by her.
"Who was that?" Ginny asked, as she drank her beer.
"That was Mason. We are kind of dating. He works with Ron and Harry," Hermione said, taking a drink from her mug.
"He's not staying?" Ginny asked.
"No, he has to work. He just came with Ron to say hello. He's headed back to the office," Hermione said. Ginny nodded.
"He's cute…for a guy," Ginny said, and Hermione laughed. They both took a drink and sat in silence for a moment before Ginny changed the subject.
"This place is nice," the red head stated, "I'm going crazy at the burrow, already. Mum is all over my potions and I'm having trouble with the stairs, so I've been staying on the couch. It's hell living in the living space," Ginny said and took another drink, "I need my own place. Something with no stairs. The burrow is almost all stairs," Ginny said, laughing lightly.
"It must be hard living there again after being an independent pro athlete and all," Hermione said and Ginny nodded. Hermione perked up suddenly and smacked Ginny's arm lightly.
"Hey, why don't you move in with me?" Hermione said and Ginny laughed, "I'm serious, Gin! I have this huge house and that big kitchen that I hardly use. You can make your potions and have one of the guest bedrooms! I have no stairs, and it would be nice not to be alone," Hermione said. Ginny stared at her old friend for a moment before responding.
"Seriously?" Ginny asked with a tone of disbelief. Hermione smiled and nodded.
"That would actually be kind of awesome," Ginny said, and Hermione smiled.
"That's great! We can have Ron and Harry move you in tomorrow!" Hermione said with a smile, "I missed you so much, it will be nice having you living here with me. When I come home from work it's quite lonely," Hermione said, leaning back against the couch. Ginny smiled when the brunette leaned over against her. She put her arm around the brunette and pulled her closer. Hermione smiled laying her head on the redheads shoulder.
"I really missed you," Hermione whispered. Ginny smiled and whispered back.
"I missed you too."
