Chapter 9

Chaos

Ginny frowned as she stood in the kitchen, working on another potion. She could hear Hermione and Mason coming back from their date and rolled her eyes. She worried about Hermione being with that man after what Ron had told her, but refused to get in the way. Hermione could take care of herself and she didn't need Ginny bothering her.

"Hey, Gin," Hermione said, coming into the kitchen and grabbing some sodas from the fridge.

"Hey. Have fun?" She asked the brunette with a smile.

"It was fun. Food was good. Mason and I are going to watch a movie on my TV. Do you want to join?" Hermione asked.

"TV?" Ginny asked with a smile.

"It's a muggle thing. You would like it," Hermione said. Ginny thought about it and decided she didn't want to see Hermione snuggling with her boyfriend. Plus her potion was very finicky.

"I can't. I need to watch this," Ginny said.

"Well you are welcome to join when you get done," Hermione said and left with the sodas.

Ginny frowned deeper as she watched the door her brunette friend had just left through. She wasn't coming back, so Ginny went back to work analyzing the potion and taking notes. She went to the fridge and grabbed herself a soda. The redhead popped the lid and took a long drink. She gulped some down and smiled. She loved the muggle sodas that Hermione got.

After a few moments, Ginnys frown returned when she thought she heard arguing in the living room. She moved to the door and listened.

"Mason, stop!" Hermione said sternly.

"Come on, Hermione, don't be like that," she heard the man say. Ginny frowned.

"No. Mason, I said I don't want to," Hermione said, Ginny could hear the distress in her friends voice.

"Hermione, we've been dating for a while. I'm leaving tomorrow," he said, sounding annoyed.

"It doesn't matter how long we've been dating. I'm not ready," Hermione said.

"Come on, Hermione, stop being such a frigid bitch," he said loudly. Ginny frowned and pushed the door open. She saw red when her eyes landed on the man pushing Hermione against her desk and the brunette trying to push him away.

"Mason stop, please!" Hermione said and Ginny rushed forward hearing the panicked tone of Hermione's voice. The redheaded grabbed the man by the wrist and twist his arm up behind him before she slammed his face hard into the desk.

"Ah, fuck! What the.." he yelled as he tried to move away, but the pain of his twisted arm made him still.

"She said stop," Ginny said angrily, holding the mans arm far behind his back, pushing his face harder still into the wood of the desk. He struggled a bit more, then grimaced in pain.

"Who the fuck are you?" Mason shouted.

"I told you I have a roommate, now," Hermione said angrily before she pulled her cardigan back onto her shoulders and smoothed out her clothes.

"Are you alright?" Ginny asked as she looked to the brunette, still holding the man down. Hermione looked up into Ginnys eyes before she nodded. Ginny stared back.

"I wasn't gonna hurt her," Mason said, calling the attention of the redhead back to himself.

"Didn't look like that to me," Ginny said and released his arm with a shove. "Stop means stop. It's a pretty easy concept to understand," Ginny said as she took a few steps back. The man stood and grabbed his shoulder, he grit his teeth and turned to see who had grabbed him. He looked past Hermione without a glance. He turned his body to face Ginny, he glared at her then his eyes went wide.

"Holy shit…you're Ginevra Weasley! You played on the Holyhead Harpies for three years. Made MVP your entire career…until you were hurt," Mason said, he seemed to have forgotten his surroundings as he gawked at her. Ginny frowned.

"Yes, that's me," Ginny said stiffly.

"I didn't know you knew a pro quidditch player!" Mason said, looking at the brunette.

"We grew up together. She's Ron's sister," Hermione said, moving to stand by Ginny.

"Oh…Weasley, yeah, I should have figured that out. You were amazing. People in Canada absolutely love you," Mason said.

"Thank you," Ginny said callously and without moving, she was still angry at the man who seemed to have already forgotten his offense. Although his amusement seemed to dim quickly as he noticed the two women were standing together against him.

"You are like.. really strong," he said, rubbing his shoulder.

"I work out," Ginny said. Hermione took a deep breath and stepped forward.

"Mason…I'm going to go to bed," Hermione said, "Will you leave..please," he looked at her a bit angrily and nodded.

"Fine…. my portkey is at noon. Maybe I'll see you tomorrow," he said and apparated away. Hermione let out a deep breath and looked to the floor.

"Are you sure you're ok?" Ginny asked, turning to the brunette. Hermione turned quickly and wrapped her arms around Ginny's waist. Ginny pulled her close. She could hear the brunette crying into her chest.

"It's alright Hermione. He's gone," Ginny whispered and caressed Hermione's head, then grimaced and shifted her weight off of her knee.

"I'm so glad you were here, I left my wand on the table over there and I couldn't get him off of me. He was so strong," Hermione said and sniffled, "I was really scared for a second," she whispered. Ginny felt the brunette shaking in her arms.

"It's ok, honey. I'm here and he's gone. You don't have to be afraid anymore," Ginny soothed. Then gasped in pain when her knee throbbed.

"Are you alright?" Hermione asked, leaning back and wiping her face of tears.

"It hurts. I wasn't thinking when I saw him…I just stormed over. I haven't walked that hard or that quickly since it's happened. It really hurts now," Ginny said and leaned against the desk, lifting her knee and taking the weight off of it.

"I'm so sorry," Hermione said and moved to Ginny's side, putting her arm over her shoulder and helping her walk.

"Bloody hell…my potion. It's going to be ruined. That is definitely the hardest potion I've had to brew yet. I'm going to have to start over tomorrow. It took all bloody day," Ginny said. Hermione helped the redhead to the kitchen. Ginny looked into the cauldron and sighed.

"Yep… ruined. Still smells good though," Ginny said and banished the flame and leaned against Hermione again.

"Can you help me get to my room. I don't think I can alone," Ginny said and Hermione nodded. Hermione helped Ginny to her room and to sit on the side of her bed.

"I can help you get changed if you need," Hermione said.

"I'm fine. I can sleep in this," Ginny said, shifting further back on the bed.

"At least take your trousers off Gin," Hermione said and came forward and unlatched Ginny's belt and slacks and helped her slide them down her legs. Ginny grimaced slightly, then reached to un-strap her brace. It fell to the ground and she rolled her eyes.

"Bollocks," she said and reached for it.

"I got it," Hermione said and picked the brace up quickly and put it on Ginny's bedside table so she could reach it easily in the morning.

"Thanks," Ginny said with a smile and looked up at Hermione as she came to stand in front of her again. Hermione put her hands on Ginny's face and ran her thumbs along her jaw slowly. The brunette leaned down and kissed the redhead softly.

"Thanks for saving me, Gin," Hermione said against the redheads lips and caressed her jaw with her thumbs again before leaning back. She looked quickly into the redheads eyes before leaving, turning out the light and partially shutting the door on her way out.

Ginny sat on the side of the bed for a while and tried to slow her heartbeat and breathing. She moved back into the bed slowly and arranged the extra pillows that Hermione had gotten her and laid her knee on top of them gently.

Ginny closed her eyes and put her hand over her face, a quiet sob issued from her that she quickly stifled. Her heart ached for the brunette, but she knew that could never happen. Ginny had convinced herself that she didn't care for Hermione in that way. That they were just best friends who had slept together once years ago. Deep down she knew that wasn't true and she tried not to think about the kiss Hermione had just given her. It was quick and chaste, but it made her heart rate skyrocket and made her ache to be with the brunette.

'Stop Ginny. This is useless. She's your straight best friend, and you're just a crippled, washed up quidditch player. She doesn't want to spend her life taking care of you,' Ginny said to herself quietly, trying to put her mind back into perspective and get her feelings under control.

The redhead forced herself to slow her breathing and stop crying. She pulled a pillow against her chest and hugged it tightly, drifting to sleep slowly as the pain in her knee eased a bit with the elevation.
