Chapter 17
Brewing Trouble
Ginny awoke to the tap-tap-tap sound on the window of an owl wanting to be let in. The redhead slid out from under the sleeping brunette and made it to the side of the bed. Carefully she stood, using mainly her good leg, and hobbled to the window and let the large barn owl in. He hooted loudly and landed on the end of the bed frame and dropped his package onto the end of the bed.
Ginny smiled when she heard Mars hoot back in response to the owls noise. He circled the room and flew back out of the window. Ginny closed the window and looked out, noticing how beautiful it was that morning. Hermione's house was located in a muggle suburb but didn't have neighbors very close. It was a large house with a lot of land for living in London. Ginny wondered if Hermione's family had a lot of money. Although, Hermione was a genius, so she probably made a lot of money to buy a beautiful home like this.
The redhead remembered her home growing up and smiled. They didn't have money then, but they had a lot of love. Of course, now with her fathers important position in the ministry and her brothers others great jobs and her fame which came with quite a lot of fortune, the Weasley's were by no means a poor family anymore.
'I'll probably have to leave after this. Hermione won't want me around after this embarrassing situation. Even if she did…I can't be here anymore. I love her too much. She doesn't really love me and after she gets the antidote, she will probably hate me,' Ginny thought as she looked out at the yard. The redhead put her head down and her forehead leaned against the cool of the window, a few tears threatening to escape from her eyes which she wouldn't let fall.
'Basic cliché, fall in love with your straight best friend. Get your heart broken,' She thought. The redhead jumped violently at a yell.
"Ginny!" Hermione said loudly.
"What?" She asked spinning around using the wall for leverage so as not to hurt her knee.
"You shouldn't be standing without your brace! Baby, you are going to hurt yourself!" Hermione said as she grabbed the brace and came up to the redhead and kneeled down, sliding it up her leg and latching it.
"I was being careful and not putting weight on it….not much at least," Ginny said. Hermione frowned.
"Ginny, you need to take care of yourself. I worry about you constantly," Hermione said almost in a panic. Ginny was a bit taken a back at how intense Hermione was.
"Hermione, are you ok?" Ginny asked. Hermione gripped the redheads shirt tightly and looked down at the floor, then back up at her.
"I don't think so…Ginny, I feel so intensely. About everything. I can't stop worrying about you. I can't stop thinking about you. I worry you don't love me, I worry I can't make you happy, I worry that you will leave me. It's like a buzzing in my brain. I can't calm down, can't relax!" Hermione said and pulled the redhead into a kiss. She leaned back and sighed, "That actually makes it a bit better," Hermione said and buried her head in Ginny's neck.
"It's getting worse. The potion definitely wasn't stable. That's one of the reasons why Amortentia is one of the most dangerous potions. You are becoming unstable, emotionally, and if we don't fix this you might hurt yourself, or someone else….or me…probably me," Ginny said and took a deep breath. "They um… they usually end up killing the person of their obsession," Ginny said a bit scared. If Hermione freaked out and tried to hurt her she wouldn't be able to stop her. Hermione was more powerful than herself, much more knowledgeable and she couldn't move very quickly.
"I won't hurt you, Ginny. I love you, I just want to be with you…so much," Hermione said but gripped Ginny's shirt tighter.
"Yeah, that's what they all say…but you won't be able to rationalize why you do it. You won't be able to use logic as it gets worse. Most begin to lose touch with reality and begin to think the person of their obsession wants to leave them or wants someone else and they can't handle that. Rage and jealousy are usually what happens," Ginny said.
"Do you want someone else?" Hermione asked looking at her sadly, yet still very intense. Ginny actually began to be frightened that Hermione was already too emotionally unstable.
"No, Hermione. I love you. Come on let's go brew the potion to fix this," Ginny said.
"Ginny,…you don't love someone else right?" Hermione said, beginning to cry.
"No, Hermione I only love you," Ginny said, softly caressing the brunettes face, "I love you so much. When this is over I'm probably going to go away in a dark room and cry for the rest of my existence," Ginny said as she led Hermione into the kitchen.
"If you love me why won't you touch me?" Hermione asked and Ginny sighed.
"Hermione, you know why…remember? Can you tell me why?" Ginny asked as she pulled out her book and magically started a fire under the cauldron. Hermione frowned for a moment in thought. Ginny noticed she seemed to calm a bit as she tried to process her thoughts and memories.
"Because, there's something wrong with me. I drank that stuff, it smelled like your hair, kind of, but also like spearmint and an old book. I started to feel like this after that but…Ginny it's getting worse and I can't think properly. I think a lot, my brain is always thinking. It's normal for me, but it's so intense, it's almost painful," Hermione said. Ginny worried as she saw the brunette begin to panic.
"Hermione, relax. Look at me. Everything is going to be fine. You need to calm down. As emotional as you are, and being stimulated by the potion, you might lose control of your magic….it would probably hurt me really badly. I can't move away very fast honey, and you are really powerful. Please try to calm down," Ginny said, holding the brunette's hand and caressing the skin softly.
"Ginny…I don't want to hurt you," Hermione said as tears slid down her face. Ginny smiled and leaned down softly kissing the brunette.
"Everything is going to be alright honey," Ginny whispered against her lips and kissed her again. Hermione pulled her closer.
"Do you think you can help me with this? It's kind of difficult and we haven't started going over it yet in class," Ginny asked, hoping that giving Hermione something to do may distract or calm her.
"Alright…," Hermione said and began to grab the ingredients they needed.
Ginny and Hermione began to brew the potion until they heard a tapping on their window. Hermione reached up and let the bird in. It was Harry's snow owl. She flew in and dropped a letter in front of Hermione before she flew away.
Hermione opened the letter and frowned. It read.
'Hermione,
Rubbing her knee, yeah right! You guys could have just told us!
Harry'
"What did Harry want?" Ginny asked as she stirred the potion.
"I'm not sure," Hermione said and handed the letter to Ginny, who looked it over.
"Weird. What's he on about?" Ginny said and set the letter down. Hermione shrugged. The two continued for about another twenty minutes, until Ron's eagle owl came tapping on the kitchen window. Hermione looked at it curiously, but let it in. It too dropped a letter and left.
'Ginny & Hermione,
What the hell is going on?"
Ron'
Hermione handed the letter to Ginny.
"What's going on? What do they mean?" Hermione asked, beginning to get confused and upset.
"It's alright, Hermione, calm down. Can you cut these up for me?" Ginny asked hoping to get Hermione distracted again. Ginny watched Hermione grip the knife tightly as she cut and the redhead grew nervous, now kind of regretting giving the brunette a knife.
About an hour after the letter from Ron, Ginny rolled her eyes as another owl tapped on the window. She recognized it as her parents spectacled owl. It dropped its letter and left.
'Ginny,
What is going on? Have you seriously been keeping something like this from us? You both need to think about what you are doing, but in Diagon Alley! You should be more discreet, Ginny! I don't want you to ruin your friendship. You have to remember that you are both famous and everyone knows who you are. Be careful dear.
Mom'
"Ok, what the hell is going on?" Ginny asked as she handed the letter to Hermione.
"I don't know," Hermione whispered. Ginny felt like screaming when another owl tapped at the window.
"Are you bloody kidding me!" she said and let it in. It was Luna's Horned owl. It dropped a note with a rolled up news paper.
"Ginny,
I figured since you don't follow the prophet much after the incident during the war that you might not realize this is in the paper. I think you are very cute together.
Luna'
The two women looked at each other wondering what was happening.
