A/N: It's been brought to my attention that in this fic I use a line which is also used in the film Jerry Maguire, and that I should have referenced Jerry Maguire accordingly. I'd just like to state that I have never seen, nor do I ever intend to see Jerry Maguire (I have unresolvable Tom Cruise issues), so I don't see the need to reference it... except, now, by writing this, I have... Ah, well - I stand by my guns - never seen it, so I didn't plagiarise it! And on with the story...

Transcendence

By Socket

They lie in bed together. Skin flushed, blood pounding. He's inside her still. Their breathing slows, their limbs heavy with pleasure. Lee kisses her throat.

"You shatter me, every time," Laura murmurs, because her feelings for him are insurmountable.

He smiles.

She smoothes his hair with her palms.

"I want to shatter you," he whispers. "Then piece you back together." There are no unscaleable heights when it comes to Laura. Lee sees no barriers – he will do what he must to stay with her.

Laura's feats are just as heroic; she loves him without restraint. The day belongs to the people; they belong to the people. But night is theirs alone; their private sanctuary.

In the darkness of her room, Lee strips her. Takes the burden from her shoulders, makes her weightless. Laura floats, soars. She repays him with tenderness and loyalty.

Laura sleeps in his arms; her body fits his as if they were one, as if they inhabited the same body, breathed from the same lungs, were guided by the same heart.

The dawn arrives and Laura takes back her burden. She shrouds herself in it and faces the day. Lee beside her, always beside her.

He bathes in her light; she shines for him. Their love burns for all to see, a furnace – unapologetic and fierce.

The day wears on, people push and claw at her, taking what they can, greedily snatching.

Lee moves beside Laura when her forlorn expression becomes too much for him. "You complete me," he whispers in her ear.

She looks up at him, green eyes large and trusting, then smiles. It's a clandestine smile; a part of the private world they have created for themselves, where no one else is admitted. Her hand touches his and their fingers entwine like jigsaw pieces fitting.

The fight is never over. The fleet, the Cylon's, circumstance – there's always a conflict. They battle on, hand-in-hand, balancing each other.

But in the dim light of her bedroom, they live as if they have been exiled from the world. Nothing exists but them. Soft words, gentle caresses. Kisses, urgent and tender. Arms open and welcoming, bodies coiled and ready - they are outside of time.

"Always be the one to rescue me," he whispers, his lips pressing against her ear as she moves beneath him.

"Always be my defender," she whispers back, then wraps her arms and legs tighter about him. "Captain Apollo," she murmurs breathlessly, then ripples of pleasure overtake her as he climaxes.

He lies with his ear pressing against her chest; listening to the sound of her heart.

She wants to stay like this; lost, blissful, electrically charged - her body alive and humming with sensations.

Soon duty and responsibility will intrude upon them, until then, Laura closes her eyes. Lee melts further into her and they hold each other close as they fall into slumber, soothed by the fact that they cannot be separated. Their love transcends everything - it is beyond living, beyond death - it can never be broken.

The End
