A new life, a code lyoko fanfic

I know-there's already a "Because of you" fanfic out there. I didn't know until just before I posted this. This story is in no way related and has completely different pairings. It's the same pairing as my other story. Hope you like it! And as always-please review!

Because of You

Jeremy threw his bed over and smashed his computer. His wife, Aelita, was in a corner, scared to death. Ever since Jeremy had become an alcoholic, he had become violent and abusive. Soon, she knew, he would come after her. Getting up and running out the front door, Aelita got in her car and drove away to her old friend's house.

I will not make the same mistakes that you did

To never let it get that far

Aelita drove the full hour and a half, wondering whether or not Jeremy was following her. Parking on the curb, she walked up to the door and knocked.

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk

I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt

I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me

I am afraid

Odd opened the door. "Aelita!" he exclaimed, his mood falling when he saw her. "No offense, but you look terrible. What happened?"

I lose my way
And it's not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
I'm forced to fake
A smile, a laugh everyday of my life
My heart can't possibly break
When it wasn't even whole to start with

Aelita started to form tears in her eyes. "NO! I can't cry! Not after all that's happened." "Aelita, you can trust me. You are, after all, my princess, so tell me why you came here at 10:00 in the evening."

"Well, it's just that Jeremy has…oh Odd!" she fell into his arms. "Jeremy's an alcoholic, he's abusive and mean, and I can't take it anymore!"

I watched you die
I heard you cry every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain
And now I cry in the middle of the night
For the same damn thing

"Aelita, come inside before you get cold" Odd said. After she came in he shut the door and locked it in case Jeremy had been following her. "He's turned abusive?" he asked her. "Yes, and I can't take it anymore. Every night, he comes home drunk and beats me. I need someone, anyone, better than him." Odd smiled. "What about me?"

Aelita couldn't believe what he just said. Then she remembered all the fun times they used to have. She couldn't deny it. She loved him. Aelita ran over and hugged him. "You're perfect." Odd smiled, and pulled her in closer as they shared their first kiss.
