Jewel's pov
My name is Jewel Giehrim Lara Lane Kent. I have no idea where my first middle name comes from, origin-wise. My parents only said it translates into destiny. In what language, I have no idea, and they are no help whatsoever. Lara is my Dad's biological mother's name, but we've never met his biological parents. My triplet brothers got off with family names that were a bit more normal. My first name comes from a place made of mountains near my Dad's hometown, which he never took us to. He said the place was called Jewel Mountains. My brother Jonathan Carus Samuel, was named after Dad's adoptive dad Jonathan and Mom's dad Samuel. Carus was the male variant of Kara, meaning beloved one, and he was named after Dad's biological cousin Kara. The youngest of the three, Jordan Elan Martin, had his first name be inspired by Dad's biological father, though we never knew his actual name, and the two middle names inspired by Mom's mom Ella, who we also never met, and Dad's adopted mother Martha. I miss visiting her. Hopefully we will get to go to Smallville soon to visit her. Unlike my brothers, I actually love the small town Dad grew up in. We currently live in Metropolis, a few hours away by car.
My brother Jordan, the youngest of the triplets, seems to take more after Mom in his features and Dad in his mannerisms. He also has a knack for videogames, a passion for evading the outdoors as much as possible, and has to live with social anxiety. Jonathan, on the other hand, is about to start playing football for one of the most competitive high schools in Metropolis, perhaps even the country; inherited Grandpa Lane's and Mom's 'Lane gene' of not having that great of a handle on their mouths, and having said mouths be too quick for their brain sometimes, getting them into trouble by what they say. But he has a heart of gold, and green eyes he somewhat inherited from Dad. Me, I find myself somewhat in the middle. Chestnut hair with a few natural blonde highlights, blue eyes that I've been told have been in my father's biological family for generations... And, of course, my mother's no-nonsense attitude and a need to help others, just like my Dad seemed to have. He did whatever he could to help, which was a nice lesson to instill in us. But we were by no means a special or different family, even if there was definitely a weird story behind us never having met my Dad's biological parents, seen his birth town, and then my weird first middle name... Then again, that could just be my own portion of the Lane genes, trying to catch a story where there wasn't one to be caught. Little did I know that particular thought was not going to last long.
