"Come on Alisa, just two more floors."
"Right, right, you don't have to keep repeating yourself!" She giggled at the man ahead of her, almost dragging her up with his soft hand. "And I thought I was the one excited for the festival."
David groaned in jest, grabbing the shimmering, jade bottle in his hands and clutching it along with the two wine glasses he had brought along. She picked up her momentum, slithering faster up the concrete stairs to get to the roof.
"Right, whatever, just hurry up!"
She didn't need to be told twice, nearly overtaking her lover on the stairs as she bolted up to a large metal door. David came up alongside her, handing her the bottle again and quickly tapping in four digits. The door opened with a ding, and they quickly stepped -and slithered- onto the rooftop of the apartment building.
They didn't live in the wealthiest part of City 31, but it didn't mean they couldn't enjoy the fireworks that had been set up in the city centre. David hugged the amber viper closer to himself, wrapping his arm around her waist and meeting her red eyes.
They seemed to glow in the night sky, emanating a shine that had been one of the countless reasons he had fallen in love with the snake.
"It's cold…" She shivered a little, smiling coyly when David unzipped his winter coat and pulled her into himself.
"Better?"
"Much better, thank you." He grinned at her, and the Viper returned the gesture along with a little kiss on his lips.
They both turned to the city as the first set of fireworks started; they seemed to be civilian and not set up by the city officials - given their rather small size.
Alisa felt her lover shiver slightly, and not because of the cold. She knew that David wasn't comfortable with the loud noises, only truly out here because she wanted to experience her first New Year's fully. He was here because of her, and she couldn't love him more even if she wanted to.
A little beep rang out from his wrist, the clock reading 0000 hours.
Midnight.
The first set of fireworks truly began, the large glass tower dominating the rest of the city sprouting walls of reds and yellows as streaks of colour flew across the night sky.
David gently grasped the bottle from her hand, before quickly unscrewing the small metal frame on the tip. It was closed by some sort of brownish plug, and she expected David to simply pull it out. The man surprised her, as he did countless times beforehand, by quickly sliding the bottom of his glass up the neck of the bottle and simply knocking off its tip. He quickly raised the bottle over the two wine glasses, pouring the white, fuzzy liquid into them.
The wine glasses were only about half full with the liquid, though she supposed that was intentional as David placed the Champagne bottle on the floor beside them.
They both turned back just in time, as the remnant smoke from the first set of fireworks lit up in thousands of new flashes, waves of greens and blues pouring from every tall building in the city centre. It seemed like some sort of eruption, though infinitely more beautiful to her and probably much, much louder.
She felt David tense up, and coiled her tail around his feet. Alisa was practically stuck to the man, every inch of her frame connected to his. She felt him loosen as she placed her hood on his shoulders, leaning into the bottom of his chin. She sighed contently, watching the fireworks ahead.
David couldn't be so calm however, each explosion causing a wave to be sent through his chest, each bang ringing out in his very core as the bright lights blossomed in the air. He felt the most important thing in his life coil around him, placing her beautiful hood on his shoulder and her muzzle into his neck.
He knew that with her he could face anything.
The sound of bells came on through every speaker in the city, chiming in unison and signing off the beginning of the New Year.
She slightly uncurled from him, lifting her face so she could gaze into her eyes.
David could have sworn his heart stopped beating at the sight, her deep red eyes were lit up in thousands of different shades and colours each more beautiful than the last. Her scales shone in the light, shifting and dancing with the melody of the city around them.
To him she was perfect, more than he ever deserved and more than he could ever ask for.
To her, he was just as stunning, his caring nature and his loving words enough for her to melt in pure ecstasy.
She looked into his hazel brown eyes, seeming to change their colour with each new set of fireworks behind them, and he gazed back.
The two lovers pushed each other, joining their bodies and mouths in the most adoring way they could. That moment seemed to last for eternity, the outside world growing muffled and irrelevant to them, and neither wanted it to end.
They pulled back, both breathless, and locked eyes again.
"David"
"Alisa"
They both spoke in unison, finding true peace in each other's minds.
"I love you."
They shared another kiss, and then another, and then one more.
"Alisa, Happy New Year my love."
"You too, my cute little Human."
He chuckled, his cheeks read and his heart warm.
"Come on now, let's get inside. I'm getting cold too."
-End-
