Prologue
Third Person POV
The night was dark, the land, all frozen, but the moon, shining as bright as ever, and it was under this faithful environment that the loud cries of a baby could be heard. Many would wonder why one would give birth to a child in such a barren place but did not care enough to think deeply about it. For much of its existence, the freezing country known as Canada had remained as dense (in terms of population numbers) as it was small. Yes, it would not be a surprise to anyone that the freezing wasteland was sparse and had a relatively small population compared to other countries similar to it in terms of size. But, that is irrelevant at this stage in time. The City of Quebec, often known for its very large production of maple syrup, and its infamous Château Frontenac, was not unused to the sound of babies being born, but it was of course unused to the sound of a demigod being born. It was very well known that Canada had little to no demigods born from there.
The cries of the baby began to drop as his mother gently cared for him. Even from a distance, it was easy to infer that the child was special. A small tuft of hair had grown upon the baby boy's head, and surprisingly, the hair was white. To use the word white would be doing it an injustice. The hair was as white as the sun appeared (to mortals) on an incredibly bright and sunny day. The hair was as white as the blank paper you would draw upon and it was as white as the ice which was often referred to upon his mother. His irides were as white as the night was dark, almost impossible to see the difference from his sclera, with pupils so dark they appeared to be like black holes, endlessly consuming the light. His teeth, although just beginning to show, were pearly white and seemed odd for a child this young yet fitting when considering his origin. The only part of him that seemed genuinely seemed out of place was his skin. It appeared to be a light tan, which he likely inherited from his father as his mother was as pale as porcelain, but it didn't make her any less attractive. She had long and wavy black hair, that contrasted her pale skin, with a pair of sky-blue eyes. She held an hourglass figure and seemed to attract the attention of any man, however, her cold nature and personality instantly drove off any pursuers, all but one. The father of her child. He had been at first confused as to why she had been so cold to him, but in time, he had been able to break the icy barrier around her, and she came to love him.
The woman's heart almost always skipped a beat when she thought about the first man she had come to truly love and likely to be the last. He was a kind caring man who was kind to everyone, no matter who. Everyone who had met him could only compliment him, not because he hid his true self, but because he always saw the good in every person. It, therefore, came as a surprise when, after giving birth to her son, she had found out he died in a car crash because of a drunk driver. Oh, how she wished she could have saved him, but no matter how much she wanted to, she couldn't because she knew there was no going against fate. Snapping herself out of her thoughts, she stared at her son as he slept peacefully. She sighed. She would do anything to keep him but after the recent prophecy entailing that he would decide the fate of Olympus, she couldn't help but let worry worm itself into her heart. What would her father do when she found out she had given birth to a demigod, even worse, what would Zeus do. It was very well known that Zeus was a paranoid little (insert cuss word) who would go to any measures to ensure the protection of his throne, even killing a child if necessary. The woman began to think of a possible way to protect her child as all mothers would, but most of her thoughts were unlikely to succeed because she either lacked the ability or was not powerful enough. After a long while of thinking, she was able to only come up with one option. While she would not be able to visit him or see him as much as she would like, it would ensure his safety.
The woman stood up and moved to the middle of the room, and began to mutter some words in ancient greek. Any bystander would be unable to understand the words, but would be able to hear the words "Erebus" and "Nyx". As soon as the muttering stopped, a dark cloud draped itself over Quebec, further intensifying the darkness that had settled over the city now that it was nighttime. The shadows gathered around the woman's feet began to darken and intensify as a powerful aura seemed to emit from it. After a few seconds, the shadows grew. They became longer and darker than ever before, and out of them stepped two figures, each one shrouded in darkness.
One was clearly a man and the other a woman. The man stood at a dominating 6ft 5 with an imposing build, suggesting years of training and intense work to maintain the large muscles that adorned his body. His irides were as black as the shadows he had emerged from. The woman had long wavy black hair accompanied by dark eyes that seemed to radiate to suck the very soul from you. The aura they emitted was without a doubt powerful. It made the goddess feel like a tiny insect upon the wall. Hell, in their presence, Zeus would feel the same. The man announced in a deep voice, "Khione, why do you summon us?".
The woman now identified as Khione spoke with her normal callous voice, but you could easily detect a hint of worry in her voice. "Lord Erebus, Lady Nyx, I need your help. I have given birth to my first mortal son, and I fear that if my father finds out, or even the Olympians, they will not hesitate to execute him. It is not his fault for being born, and his father was a great man but killed in a car accident. There is no way that I can care for him without suspicion arousing from my father and the Olympians."
Erebus pondered about this for a few seconds before Nyx asked, "We can understand your situation, but how can we help you?".
Khione sadly replied, "I know it is a big favour, but I would like you to take him with you to your Mansion and raise him yourselves. I know from our previous encounters that you would like to have a normal child you can raise because most of your others are either gods or monsters like the others."
The two primordial were deep in thought. They knew from a fact that Khione's words were true. They both wanted the experience of raising a normal child, and this boy would provide them with that and it would be much easier to raise this child than having several more attempts of producing a child, but many things could go wrong with raising a child in Tartarus. Nyx sighed for a second before having a mental conversation with her husband.
"She is not wrong, we have wanted a child for a long time, and it would be nice to raise a child like him," Nyx said
Erebus replied "I know, but think of the danger the child would be in. Tartarus is no place for a god, let alone a baby demigod"
Erebus took a few more seconds, before adding "And did you forget what would happen to him if he even looked at anything n our mansion. We are already indebted to Khione for that time she stopped those hunters of that pesky moon goddess from telling of our presence to those weak Olympians, do you really want to make it worse by ensuring her first mortal son becomes insane".
Nyx could not deny it, but her brother was right. Any being below a God would immediately become insane upon gazing at any of the items in her mansion. After deep thinking, she said "I know, but if we made him our champion, or even gave him our blessings, it would allow him to see everything in our mansion without him going insane"
Erebus immediately replied "Are you insane Nyx, giving a demigod, a baby no less, the blessing of a primordial, one of our power and status as well, would cause him to explode from too much power"
"I know, but he just feels special to me, we can even consult sister now just to make sure. Please Erebus, you know how much it means to me" Nyx told her husband. She mentally heard her brother sigh before he replied a few seconds later.
"Fine, but if anything goes wrong, I'm holding you accountable".
Khione stared at the two immensely powerful beings before her, switching her gaze from Erebus, to Nyx, to her son, before returning it to Erebus. She patiently waited a few more minutes, before Erebus finally replied. He said, "Khione, we will look after this child of yours, but you must give him your blessing as we would like to adopt him, and we know that you will not be able to visit your child from here, so we will give you this bracelet which will transport you to our mansion."
Khione immediately released a sigh of relief, before quickly nodding. Nyx gave her a warm smile before they looked around the room before their eyes settled on the small baby who was sucking his thumb while sleeping. Nyx couldn't help but smile and she slowly walked towards him. Just as she was about to grab him, she looked at Khione, as if she was asking for permission. Khione nodded and watched on as Nyx picked up her baby, and gently swayed him like she often did. A small smile adorned her face as she looked at this, but it was quickly replaced with a frown as she realised that she wouldn't be able to see him often, but she was glad that she would be able to visit him easily when she had spare time. Erebus after gazing as his wife cared after their soon to be child moved to the side of his wife, before putting his hand over the face of the baby. You could hear him whisper in a language that sounded far too old to be Ancient Greek, and after a few seconds, his hands glowed a dark black and soon after, so too did the baby. The glowing increased in intensity before suddenly, the glowing stopped. The overall appearance of the child didn't change, only his irides became darker with some of his hair turning to the black that Erebus held. His hair didn't have botches of black hair like Erebus expected, but rather half of his hair was white, while the other was black, but they weren't separate, rather they were blended. Nyx and Khione smiled as they looked at the baby, and they remained like that for a minute or two. Soon enough, Nyx did the same thing Erebus did, and soon enough, the child glowed black and much like it had when Erebus did it, the glowing increased in intensity, before suddenly dissipating. Nothing had changed from his appearance, other than his asking becoming a shade lighter. Nyx turned around and looked at Khione and asked, "What is his name?"
Khione replied, "Perseus, I named his Perseus because he was the only hero to truly have a good ending and would like my son to have that as well". Nyx nodded, understanding her reason.
Nyx looked at Perseus and said, "Come on Perseus, you're going to meet your new family, and me and Erebus are going to raise you to be the greatest man to live". Khione couldn't help but smile at this sight before she looked at Nyx and said, "Can I hold him for one last time?"
Nyx nodded, before gently handing her newly adopted son to Khione. Khione stared down at her son in her arms, and couldn't help but let a few tears slide down her cheeks. She gently whispered to him, "My dear son, I know that you will grow up knowing that I was not a major part of your life, but I am truly sorry. I do not regret having you, but I regret not having the chance of raising you. I will try as hard as I can to make up for that later on when you have grown and understand why I did what I did today. Goodbye Perseus, I will visit you soon". And with that, Khione let her barrier loose as she openly cried for the second time in her life. After a few moments of crying, she handed her son to Nyx before disappearing and reappearing in her room where she cried herself to sleep, not noticing the silver bracelt upon her drawer.
