After entering her home, she soon found angry Qrow waiting for her. Not recognizing that he was upset, Yang greeted him warmly.
"Hi, Uncle Qrow!", Yang said with a smile.
"Where were you, Yang?", Qrow asks suddenly, displeasure in his voice being clear to even a young kid. "And where is your sister?".
Yang points to the wagon she dragged in, making clear that Ruby was inside of the wagon.
"Sleeping", Yang informed him.
Qrow sighs and tries to get his emotions under control. After a minute he continues.
"Yang, be honest with me. You snuck out while Tai was at work, right? And you took your sister with you."
Yang waited for a moment, but then nodded.
"I'm guessing you found an old photo, and I'm guessing that because I found it missing, of your mother's and Tai's old home. That's what made you leave, right?"
Yang nodded, before answering.
"Uh huh, but I didn't find nothing in that house. It was just full of mean scary Grimm!"
Qrow looks her over with some worry, but relaxes after seeing no injuries.
"And I'm guessing that this armor has something to do with how you got out fine?"
Yang eagerly nodded, before explaining.
"It was a gift!"
"From the people who saved you?"
"Uh huh. You wanna meet them?"
Qrow gave her a quick nod.
"I would defiantly want to thank them for saving you, and Ruby, from your stupidity"
Yang looks regretful.
"I-I'm-I'm sorry, Uncle. It-It's just…I finally had a clue where my mom could be…and no one wanted to do anything…mom has been gone for so long…and dad's not the same when she's not here, or when my other mom isn't…"
Qrow sighs.
"I understand how you feel kiddo. As long as you think next time, and maybe get me before you do anything stupid, I'll forgive you"
"Yes!", Yang exclaimed cheerfully.
"You're still grounded, though"
That did seem to put a damper on her spirits.
"Now, how about you show me those helpers of yours?"
Qrow picks up Ruby and looks her over, satisfied that she is as safe from injury and as sleepy as a toddler should be.
"'Kay! Follow me!"
And just like that, she lead him outside the house, and just a tiny bit inside the forest, where hidden behind one of the trees was a Tower Gate.
Looking back to see Qrow just behind her, Ruby still in-hand, she took at step on the Gate, and vanished.
Seeing his niece vanish like that, Qrow threw all caution to the wind, and hurriedly followed. Once he stepped foot on the gate, he too disappeared.
When he reappeared, he took a look at his surroundings. He appeared to be in the middle of some sort of grand, but decaying, throne room, or he guessed so from a slightly broken stone throne, with several stairwells near him, one to the north-east, one to north-west, one to south-east, and one to south-west. Behind him was a pool of water, through which he could see something glowing deep within. He even spotted a stone head of a gargoyle, maybe? Or was that a dragon? He allowed himself this time for observation because as soon as he had appeared, he had quickly spotted Yang, in no danger at all. The observation didn't take long, just a few seconds at most.
He saw, then, a small goblin-like creature that took notice of their arrival, and approached Yang and gave her a quick bow.
"Back so soon, Sire?", the creature said, then he turned to look at him. "And with company too, I see".
Yang pointed at the creature.
"Uncle Qrow, this is Gnarl."
Yang then pointed at him.
"Gnarl, this is Uncle Qrow. He's my Uncle."
It wasn't every day you find small talking real life goblins, and then find that your niece knows them.
"I take it you are the one who I should thank for saving my niece?"
"I am regretfully far too old to go around beating and smashing things, or in this case creatures. No, I am merely an advisor to young Sire, wherever she would need help."
Before he could comment on this, the old goblin, called Gnarl if Qrow heard correctly, turned to Yang.
"If you wish to introduce the Minions that saved you to your Uncle, merely focus on the Gauntlet and wish for them to appear"
While Yang clearly didn't understand every word of what he said, she seemed to understand the general gist of what he said, and lifted her Gauntlet, which Qrow only now noticed glowed with worryingly evil looking orange color.
Sound similar to a war horn being blown emanated from the Gauntlet, and soon after eleven more of those creatures appeared. Gnarl called them minions, didn't he?
Gnarl turned to him.
"These Minions are the ones that saved your niece, although it was done on my orders"
Qrow turned to the Minions who seemed to be paying more attention to Yang than him until Yang pointed at him, and thanked them.
"Thank you for saving my niece. It means a lot for me."
Those Minions looked somewhat confused by his gratitude. Perhaps they weren't used to being thanked?
One of the minions decided to speak up.
"It what we do. We save the Overlord"
Overlord. Sire. Advisor. The armor and the weird Gauntlet. Qrow was starting to get a really bad feeling about this.
Yang decided to speak up.
"Oh! That's me! That's what they call me!"
And like that, his worry increased.
"What exactly is an Overlord?", Qrow decided to ask.
It was Gnarl that answered him.
"An Overlord is what the Overlord chooses to be. They can do what they choose to do. If an Overlord wishes to conquer all lands by brutal force, than that is what he is. If an Overlord wishes to defeat evil creatures to protect a town, and then vassalize them for their protection, than that is what he is. An Overlord is whom we serve, and who in one way or another, will achieve great things. Now we serve this young Sire. We are minions. That is what we do."
Great. Just great. Yang found herself in control of some Goblin cult. Qrow decided to look on the bright side. At least they saved her. That must mean they are good, right?
He paused for a moment. Those two examples had something in common.
"Both of the examples you gave, they involve conquering"
It wasn't a question. It was a statement. Yet, Gnarl answered him as if it was a question.
"Indeed. That is what Overlords tend to do. It's in the name."
Given it was a cult, he can probably guess what comes next. The evil looking glow on Yang's gauntlet certainly gave him an idea.
"And I guess they also tend to be evil?"
Gnarl chuckled.
"We minions are creatures of Evil. As such, we seek Masters with great Evil too. Not every Master starts Evil. But over many years we have learned to recognize a Master that would be good at Evil."
Yang seemed to be struggling to follow this whole conversation, and interrupted.
"Wait, wait, what is evil?"
"Evil means bad, Yang", Qrow explained simply.
Yang made a displeased face.
"I'm not bad! I'm a very good girl!"
Gnarl decided to interrupt.
"Your Uncle isn't wrong. Evil is often considered bad. But, Evil is simply doing what you want to do without any rules. An Evil Overlord can fight monsters to protect people he chose to protect. An Evil Overlord can also do many bad things because he feels like it"
Yang looked thoughtful.
"So being evil means I get to stay up late and play all the time?"
Qrow couldn't help but laugh. I guess that's what's at the forefront of a six year olds mind. Still, he had to correct her.
"I don't think that's what he means by evil, kiddo".
Gnarl nodded in agreement.
"Indeed, that is not what I was thinking of. But, an Evil Overlord could also do that. But! My Lord, you must remember, that Evil can only do what it wants only as long as it is strong enough to stop the Good from stopping it. If you want to, as you put it, stay up late, then you'll have to become strong enough so that your Father and Uncle couldn't force you to go to bed."
Yang nodded as if it made perfect sense.
"Then I will become strong enough and stay up as late as I want! Thank you, Gnarl!"
"I am always ready to give you advice, Master"
Well, Qrow supposed, that wasn't the worst thing that could have happened. This evil they're teaching her is…quite simple and childish. If that's all there is, then he had no problems with Yang going on an "evil" path. Still, he had doubts it was all that simple. He'll have to keep an eye on what they teach her.
Still, he had to know one more thing.
"What are the expectations she must fulfill as your Master?"
"We serve the Overlord no matter what wishes she makes, or what she wishes to do. We are her loyal Minions", Gnarl answered simply.
Qrow looked around again.
"A bit of a broken place for your 'Master', isn't it?"
Yang quickly interrupted him.
"Hey! Gnarl said the Minions will fix it!"
"And indeed, we shall. However without anything like even a simple crane, it will take a long time. It is truly a shame that it is in this state. When the previous Master had died, his enemies looted the place, causing much damage to it."
Qrow thought about it for a while. They did save his niece, and castle by itself isn't anything bad. Might as well repay the favor.
"If you all can get enough wood, I can make blueprints and bring other materials like rope and a hook."
Gnarl agrees, and within half an hour they are finished. The Minions are very hard and fast workers, it seemed.
As the Minions rush to use the crane to clear out many a fallen debris, Gnarl turned to Yang.
'My Lord, there is something I forgot to mention about your new powers. Please focus on a nearby Minion, and in your head, give him a command"
Yang does so, and the Minion she commanded starts doing a silly little dance.
"Just like you can summon to them as I showed you before, you can also command them. As you are young, in age and in being an Overlord, the amount of Minions you can command is small. This will change with practice, age, and with helpful support equipment.", Gnarl continued his explanation, "However should you want to control more, simply command them out loud. Controlling them with you mind is better, more precise, but we obey no matter how you give a command"
At this moment, before anything else is said, Ruby decides to wake up, and start crying as she is hungry. They quickly excuse themselves and go home, to think over the day that just happened, and to have something to eat. Yang wanted to rest a bit too after all the walking that had happened before.
This day, Qrow thought, was overall a good one. Sure, when he tracked the kids down to that abandoned house and found no trace of them, that wasn't good, but they lived through it without even a scratch, and Yang managed to score a castle out of that ordeal. Inhabited by self-proclaimed evil creatures, but Qrow figured he'd best look at the bright side of things. At least they aren't teaching Yang to steal and murder yet. Hopefully not ever. They did seem loyal to her, so maybe it will all turn out well. Such a weird day, he concluded, but overall a good one. Any day his nieces survive a Grimm attack is a good day in his books.
