Another one! And for anyone who cares, idkwhattoname77 from Wattpad teamed up with a couple of other writers for a pretty nice story so far. Check it out. It's in his reading list. And if anyone is wondering, no we are NOT the same person. I am not smart enough to pull off such an elaborate scheme. Have a good day, stay home, stay safe.
"Darius? Darius, are you there?" Brooklynn groaned, then gave up on trying to reach him.
Yasmina was up with Kenii, leaving Sammy to help her walk. Brooklynn's left arm hung over Sammy's left shoulder. "He'll make it back." Sammy assured her. "You know that he'll do anything to keep you safe."
Brooklynn nodded. "I just... Why does he have to try to do everything alone?"
"Like I said," Sammy answered, "he will do anything to keep you safe. But you know that we're screwed if he left KENJI in charge."
Brooklynn smiled. "Hey. With the thought of dying in the front of my mind, I realized that I never said sorry."
"For what?" the Texan girl asked.
"I'm sorry for how I treated you when this all happened. I got mad at you and blamed you for the Indominus." Brooklynn explains. "Deep down, I KNEW it wasn't your fault that the Indominus got loose. I guess I was scared, and needed something to use as a punching bag. So, I'm sorry that I never apologized until now. And I'm sorry for how I treated you."
Sammy smiled. "Thanks Brooklynn. I'm glad that we've at least become friends."
"Me too Sammy." Brooklynn shared the smile. After a few more seconds of walking, the pink haired girl came to a realization. "What do you mean, 'keep you safe?'"
Darius had finally made it to the Valley Plane. It took a few hours longer than he would have liked. Right below was a herd of Ankylosaurs. He took a quick glance, and saw one that kind of looked like Bumpy. He had found her, so Ben was either there with her, or not too far behind. Darius walked over to Bumpy. They didn't have a great relationship, but it wasn't an aggressive one either. Kind of like a relationship you would have with a cat that didn't like you, and you were afraid of IT. They gave each other space, and things were fine.
Darius finally got to where Bumpy was. She was hanging around the outskirts of the herd. The big Ankylo saw him and recognized him after a second. "Hey girl. Wanna help me find Ben?" At the mention of Ben, she moaned a little bit. Darius looked behind her, and saw that something was breaking through the tree line. He aimed his rifle, and was about to shoot, but he saw a blue headband and some dirty blonde hair pop out. "Ben. There you are." Darius said.
"D-Darius?" Ben was shocked that the older teen had not only found him, but found Bumpy BEFORE him, the guy who IMPRINTED on her. Albeit, on accident. "What are you doing here? How did you find her?"
"I thought of all the places she could be." Darius explained. "I remembered seeing an Ankylosaurs herd a while back, and decided to check here. I may not have your tracking skills, but I have been taking notes these last few months."
"How long have you been here?" Ben asked, getting over his initial shock.
"Only a few minutes." Darius assured him. "Don't worry, you're not losing your touch." They stood in silence for a minute. "Come to say goodbye to her?"
Ben took a deep breath. "Something like that." He was hesitant to say more, and Darius saw it, but he didn't pry.
"Alright." Darius nodded his head. "Take a few minutes. Then we need to head over to the boat. The others are probably there already."
Ben walked over to Bumpy, and started to pet her. "I... I'm not going back with you guys."
Now it was Darius's turn to be shocked. "Um... What? The Scorpius's roar might have damaged my ears. It sounded like you said you weren't going with us."
"I'm not." Ben looked at Darius dead in the eyes, showing that he was serious. Darius was speechless for a second. Ben continued, "I've... Thought it over-"
"You could not have POSSIBLY thought this through." Darius said, interrupting Ben. "You're telling me that you're happy here? Running for your life everyday?"
"I've got Bumpy with me." Ben tried to defend his reasoning. "We take care of each other." Darius shook his head. "I've got everything I could need. What else could I want?"
"A pot to piss in would be nice." Darius answered. "We go on trees and in the bushes. This isn't a game Ben. This is life. I'm tired of being one mistake away from death."
"If you want to go to the boat, fine." Ben said simply. "I'm not going to stop you."
Darius groaned, and shook his head. "Ben, I know for a FACT you're not thinking straight."
"How Darius?" Ben was getting frustrated now. "How could YOU POSSIBLY know that?"
"Because that's what happened to me too." Darius told him. "You know what you're doing? You're doing everything in your power to stop the inevitable from happening. You're denying the reality of the situation. You can't let go of Bumpy, so you're making rash decisions."
Ben glared at him. "I've changed for the better in my time here. This is the place where I feel alive! It's what's best for me."
"Have you thought about what's best for your mom?" Darius challenged. "If you don't get on that boat, I'M going to have to tell her why YOU didn't come home. If you stay here, your mother is going to cry herself to sleep. She would rather you be dead than live with the fact that you CHOSE to stay on killer fucking dinosaur island!"
"Don't bring my mom into this." Ben warned. "You have no right-"
"Yes I do." Darius interrupted again. "You want to know where I got the money to pay for my mom's procedures? I got involved with this street racing league. Illegal, in case you didn't notice. My brother told my mom, and when she confronted me about it, I could see the pain in her eyes. She didn't want me to pay for her treatment illegally. But I made my choice. I felt alive, I felt FREE." A tear threatened to fall. "But every time we had enough money to pay, she looked at me with a pained smile."
Ben shook his head. "You were trying to save her. I'm trying to save myself."
"Yeah, but what I'm trying to say was that it only caused my mother MORE pain." Darius drove home his point. "YOUR mother is in pain because she thinks you're dead. She will be in MORE pain when I tell her that you chose to stay."
"I'm sorry you're not happy with my choice." Ben said. "But it's not up to YOU anymore."
Darius shook his head. Both teens were visibly frustrated with each other. "I've tried being patient with you. I've tried to help you listen to reason. But I'm through with treating this like a debate." Darius looked at Ben, and grabbed him by the legs, and lifted him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. He carried the rifle in his free hand.
Ben was shocked at what just happened. "Wha- Darius, put me down." Darius kept walking in the direction of the boat. "Darius, I'm warning you." Bumpy saw what was happening, and decided to follow them. Ben's arms hung over Darius's waist. After years of being bullied, he was going to have to take a page out of the Book of Bullies. He grabbed the elastic waist band of Darius's underwear, and pulled up.
Darius dropped him with a loud groan. Ben fell to the ground face first. It wasn't the best escape, but it was effective. Ben started to get up, but he was suddenly being dragged. Looking behind, he saw that Darius had recovered quickly. "A wedgie? Really? Dick move Pincus." Ben wasn't done yet. He used his free foot to kick around, hoping to hit anything. Darius took a kick to the leg. He stumbled down, and Ben got out of his grip again.
This time, the younger teen got onto his feet. But his arms were quickly trapped, and he was lifted off of the ground. Ben groaned out loud. "Let me go Darius!"
"After everything we've been through, you want to end this with no goodbyes?" Darius asked him. "I can't believe how selfish you're being."
Ben replied, "You're not exactly listening to me either." The younger teen threw his head back and connected with Darius's forehead. The older teen clutched his forehead, in pain. Ben decided that the only way to get through to Darius was beat the crap out of him.
Darius wasn't trying to fight Ben. The kid held a special place in his heart, so it hurt him that the younger boy was actively trying to stop Darius from taking him to the boat. Darius was still trying to recover from the headbutt. He suddenly felt himself being tackled to the ground. He landed with a hard thud, and Ben got on top of him. The young boy lifted his fist, and Darius tried one last time to get him to listen. "You're my brother! And I'm not going to leave you here. Not like last time."
The two teens calmed down. Ben lowered his fist, and their breathing weren't as heavy. Bumpy roared, and they realized that Bumpy saw the whole thing. Ben got off of Darius, and walked over to help her calm down. "Sorry you saw that Bumpster. Darius and I are... Working through some stuff."
Darius sighed, and said, "Can we try again to talk to each other like civilized people?" Ben moved Bumpy's snout towards the herd. She walked towards them, and sat down next to Darius. Before he talked to Ben, Darius turned on the radio. "Hey Brooklynn? Sammy? You guys okay? Over."
"KEEP RUNNING! IT'S RIGHT THERE!" Kenji yelled to the group. The four teens were running as fast as they could. They were almost to the boat after 4 hours of carful walking. They were NOT about to become Scorpius food. The herd of Paras from the cave were out because the Scorpius had gone exploring for a midnight snack. They finally made it to the dock. They ran to the boat that was straight ahead, and climbed onto the boat.
After taking a minute to catch their breath, Brooklynn heard the walkie talkie go off. "Hey Brook... Guys okay? Over."
"Darius." Brooklynn answered. "Where are you? Have you found Ben?"
"Found Ben... meet you... little bit... boat." Darius's voice cracked and his words got scrambled.
"Darius?" Brooklynn tried again. "Darius, can you here me?"
"Br-kly?" Darius got cut off again.
Brooklynn shook her head. Damn it. "Look, if you can hear me, we're fine. We had a run-in with the Scorpius. Get to the boat as fast as you can. But be careful. We don't know where it is."
"Oka... ROAR!" A nasty, familiar roar was heard over the walkie. The four teens on the boat looked at each other nervously.
Darius and Ben looked up. Bumpy had ran back to the herd when she heard the roar. Darius and Ben were too familiar with that roar. "The Scorpius is close." Darius whispered. The two teens hid in the bushes. Darius grabbed his shotgun, and prepared to fight if the animal saw them.
In front of them, a black figure broke through the trees. Darius saw the blood red eyes, and knew that it was the Scorpius. Ben gasped when the monster got closer to the herd. It had it's eyes near Bumpy. The young of the herd were suddenly surrounded by the adults of the group, forming a big circle around Bumpy and a few other youngsters. Ben started breathing faster. Darius saw him try to brake from the bushes to help Bumpy, but pulled Ben back. "You can't help her. But THEY can." he told the younger teen.
The Scorpius roared at the herd. The Ankylosaurs roared back in defiance. The black figure lunged at the Ankylosaur, trying to scratch it. But the Ankylo fought back. A few others assisted as the herd moved the young back away from the Scorpius. The monster roared, and tried to use it's tail to kill the Ankylo. The animal ducked it's head, and the tail hit the shell. A couple of quills broke off of the tail, and ricocheted away from the Ankylo harmlessly. Ben again tried to jump forward to fight the Scorpius, but Darius pulled him back, and planted him on the ground. "Stay down." he whispered to Ben.
The Scorpius was trying everything to get to one of the smaller Ankylos. But the damn beef tanks were just too much to face alone. Eventually the monster roared one last time, and ran off. Darius and Ben waited a few minutes until they were comfortable. Ben went up to Bumpy, but there was sadness in his eyes. "They can protect her in a way that I can't. I have to let her go." Ben thought out loud.
Darius put a hand on Ben's shoulder. "You're doing the right thing, as the first person she imprinted on. This is what's best for her."
Ben turned his attention back to Darius. "Then why can't you accept that this is what's best for me?"
Darius sighed again. He was going to stay as calm as he could this time. "Why do you feel like staying here is the best thing for you?" he asked.
"Because I've been me my whole life." Ben answered. "Scared, alone. I never felt like I belonged anywhere. Then I got lost in the jungle and was forced to push past those fears. If I go back, I'm afraid everything will go back to normal."
Darius put a hand on Ben's shoulder. "After Mom died, I couldn't stop the racing. I felt like if I stopped, then I was giving up on mom. But I felt like if I kept going, then I was making my mom disappointed. And after so many fights with my brother, I finally came to a decision."
Ben waited for Darius to tell him, but the answer never came. "Well, what did you do?"
Darius looked at Ben dead in the eyes. "That's for you to find out." The older teen sighed again. "If you really want to stay here, then... Fine. But you have to come with me to say goodbye to the others. You owe them THAT at the very LEAST."
Ben nodded. "Let's go."
The two teens ran as fast as they could. It was going to be sunrise soon. As they were running, Darius had a thought. "Hey. If Brooklynn said that they had a run-in with the Scorpius when they got back to the boat, and WE saw that thing not even a minute later, what's the explanation for that?"
"It would have to be the fastest animal to ever exist." Ben came to the conclusion.
"All the more reason to NOT slice a bunch of dinosaur DNA together with the DNA of OTHER animals." Darius said. He sighed. "Well, as long as the boat is still there, it'll be fine." Ben nodded, and they both kept running.
Brooklynn and Sammy had stayed up to watch for Darius and Ben. Yaz and Kenji had taken the first shift, and now it was their turn. "What are you thinking about?" Sammy asked the other girl.
"I had this weird dream." Brooklynn explained. "I saw Darius's mother. She told me to take care of him."
Sammy remembered when Brooklynn had started calling for Darius. Her suspicions had been confirmed that, deep down, Brooklynn had a crush on Darius. She just didn't know it. "You've been spending a lot of time with Darius since this whole thing started."
Brooklynn nodded. "He's a good friend. I think my BEST friend. It's been a while since I had one."
Sammy started to pry a little bit. "What do you think he feels?"
"I think he feels the same way." Brooklynn admitted. "When we both came here, we were both loners. I hid it behind a whole façade of excitement. He was just straight about it." Brooklynn chuckled a little bit. "You can't tell anyone else. Yaz is the only one that knows because she saw it." Sammy scooted a little bit closer to her. "When we were stuck in the gyrosphere, and the mud was sinking, in a moment of panic, I decided to kiss him. For what ever reason, I just reached for his face and kissed him."
Sammy smiled and started to laugh softly at this. "You took one look at him on the first day of camp and thought, 'Yeah, I would make out with him?'"
"It was a spur of the moment kind of thing." Brooklynn defended herself, but she was smiling as well. "And, I thought I was going to die, so forgive me for wanting to at least have my first kiss."
"Awww, he was your first kiss?" Sammy said.
"I know, I know." Brooklynn told her. "We both talked about it afterwards, and we both agreed that it was a one time thing." Sammy's smile fell slightly. "In all honesty, I'm glad that we agreed to that. It might have made things more awkward between us while trying to survive."
"Are you sure that he's fully agreed?" Sammy asked.
Brooklynn looked her right in the eyes. "Yeah. I mean, he's the High School football star. Three different girls probably swoon for his attention every day. Not to mention, when we get home, there's bound to be at least a THOUSAND girls who think that he's cute."
Sammy continues to ask. "Do you think that he'll get distracted by them? Or do you think that he will continue to run solo?"
"I mean, he says that there was only one girl before camp." Brooklynn explained. "He didn't go into much details, but it sounds like they were pretty close. I wouldn't be surprised if they started dating again when he sees her again."
Sammy wasn't so sure. But all she said was, "Well, even if he goes back to his ex, just remember that you've been through more with him than she has. He's going to stay friends with all of us, including you."
Brooklynn nodded. They didn't realize that Kenji had woken himself up by accident, and heard their entire conversation. Another few hours later, the sun started to rise. Sammy had woke up everyone else. The four teens looked at the dock. "Well, it's sunrise." Kenji sighed.
"We're not leaving them here." Brooklynn said firmly.
"I didn't say we were." Kenji responded. After a few minutes, the bushes start to make some rustling. "See? There they are."
"Hey Darius! Ben! I knew you guys would make it!" Brooklynn shouted. The teens shouted in joy. Now they could get back to the main land.
Darius and Ben ran as fast as they could. It was sunrise for at least an hour. Darius would be lying if he said that he hoped that they didn't leave. The two teens finally broke through the trees and island foliage. They were at the dock, but all they saw was the limo. No boat. Darius sighed. "Well, on the bright side, at least you won't be alone on the island."
Ben nodded. "I guess I took too long to help you get to the boat."
Darius shook his head. "Hey, I'm glad we had a chance to talk. But, now is not the time to get sad. We need to head back to camp, come up with a new pla-" SNARL The two teens turned towards the tree that made the noise. Darius looked at it's snout. No bullet holes? "That thing has got the healing factor of the Wolverine." Darius took out his gun, preparing to defend him and Ben.
RRHOOOOOARWER! An even louder, scarier roar was heard behind them. Ben stood behind Darius, covering each other's sixes. "Darius, THIS one has a bunch of bullet wounds on his snout." Ben told the older teen.
"Two of them." Darius was thinking out loud now. "That's why we saw a Scorpius attacking the herd so quickly after the others told us." The two Scorpius's, at the moment, looked more interested in fighting each other. They charged at each other, and Darius pulled Ben towards the limo. He quickly got in the driver's seat, and started up the car. Checking if they had enough gas, he just decided to gun it. Leave the dock, and come up with a new plan.
Ben was sitting in the passenger's seat, and held something in his hand. "Huh. Kenji forgot his Captain's hat." Darius looked for a second, and saw that he was right. They drove for a few more miles, putting as much distance between the two spawns from hell. Darius ran the limo all the way to camp. It was risky, but it was the only safe place he could think of right now. He turned off the limo, and the two teens sat there and looked at each other for a minute. Ben opened his door, and Darius did the same to get out. "How the hell are there TWO of those things?"
Darius raised his eyebrows. "Since when do you cuss Pincus?"
"Since a fucking monster is loose on the island. And we not only have to track one, but TWO." Ben said, exasperated. "So yeah, I think I've earned my right to use whatever fucking profane shit I'd like. Got it asshole?" Ben's eyes widened. Darius was stuck with him forever on the island, and this wasn't getting off to the best start.
Darius held a straight face for a second, and then started to smile and fought to hold in a laugh. "Little Ben is growing up." They smiled again. "Alright. This isn't relevant, but I think the reason that there are two of them is because every dinosaur here has frog DNA in their genetic code. Some frogs are able to reproduce without the help of a partner. Wu really went all out with THIS one."
"So, what do we do?" Ben asked. "They don't like each other. Maybe they'll just take each other out?"
"We can't count on that." Darius said. "I have a feeling that when one of them kills the other, another one will take it's place. We need to kill them both. My guns don't seem to do a whole lot of damage. We need a way to knock them out. THEN we will be able to kill them."
"Well, where do we do that?" Ben asked.
Darius thought for a second. "We've got to go back to where it all began." The older teen checked the camp for more ammo for the shotgun. He had enough for a fight. He just had to be ready. "But first, we got to get some more fire power." He got back into the limo, and Ben followed him. Darius turned the key, but the engine stalled. He tried again a few more times, but with no luck. Looking down at the dash, the older teen saw the gas light was blinking. "Looks like we're walking."
They had been walking for a little bit. "So, what's the plan?" Ben asked. "Are we going to blow something up?"
"No. I like where your head's at though." Darius quipped. "Remember that shed we found a while back?"
"Yeah." Ben nodded.
"I saw a bunch of tranq darts." Darius explained. "And there is a dart gun at the Visitor's Center of the old park. We get there, we track the Scorpius's, and kill them."
Ben told him, "That sounds like a long shot."
Darius nodded. "Maybe. But I would rather die fighting than waiting to die."
"I share the same sentiment." Ben said.
About three hours later, Brooklynn, Sammy, Kenji, and Yasmina followed the limo tracks to the camp. The doors were open. Kenji was on edge, so he kept pointing the gun around. "Hey, Jason Bourne, mind putting that thing away? You're scaring me." Yaz told him.
Kenji reluctantly put the gun back behind his pants. Brooklynn looked inside the limo. "They're not here." She looked at the ground, and saw a set of footprints. When she followed them, they intercepted with another set of prints. "They got out. They're leaving camp for some reason."
"I couldn't find the ammo that Darius stored for the shotgun." Sammy informed them.
"You don't think that they would... Try to fight the Scorpius, right?" Kenji asked.
"If I know Darius," Brooklynn started, "he would much rather fight to the death than wait for death to catch up with him."
Yaz agreed. "And we all know that Ben is ALWAYS looking for a reason to fight."
"Then we've got to follow those tracks." Sammy said. The other teens agreed, and ran to catch up to their friends.
Ben and Darius came across the shed they found a while ago. Darius and Ben were having a Deja Vu moment. Darius slung the shotgun over his shoulder, and grabbed another Glock, a bunch of magazines, and handed Ben an Electrical Stick. "You know how to use that thing?" Darius asked.
"I used a spear to fight Toro with Bumpy." Ben reminded him.
Darius nodded. "Right. Well, you use that." Ben carried the Stick with him. Darius continued searching for the tranq darts. "Where are the... Ah. Here they are." Darius put the case of darts in a bag that he also grabbed. After doing another quick check around the room, Darius found another thing that could be helpful. He put on an ACU protective vest. From the tag on it, it was supposed to be bullet proof. Darius offered one to Ben, but the Jungle Boy declined. "Well, I guess we're ready to grab the tranq gun. Let's get moving."
Ben followed Darius out. "Are you sure you can't let me blow something up?"
Darius sighed. "I'll tell you what. If you want to blow something up so badly, you can blow up the Scorpius's when I get them knocked out. You can make it as big and loud as your little heart desires." Ben smiled as the kept walking.
"The tracks lead to a shed." Yasmina informed them. The four campers had been running for about another hour. They went in, and looked around.
"It's an ACU weapons shed." Kenji told them. "Darius and Ben are going to fight the Scorpius's, so they wanted to pack some heat before going on their little suicide mission."
Brooklynn quickly ran back to the entrance and out into the woods. She searched some more, and found the footprints leaving the shed. "They're going this way! Come on!"
Kenji sighed. "Why does it seem that she's running faster than YOU?" he asked Yaz.
"Why do YOU think?" she replied.
Not needing any more explaining, Kenji shrugged. "Makes sense."
Darius and Ben had made it to the area where Darius left the tranq gun. "Right where I left it. Hopefully, nobody is coming in and out of the Visitor's Center."
"Don't worry." Ben said confidently. "Me and Compys have a history. They'll leave us alone."
"I was talking about Blue." Darius clarified.
"Oh." Ben continued to follow Darius.
The older teen picked up the tranq gun, and looked at how much ammo it had. He put a few more darts in to keep it from going out sooner. "Alright. Well, all we gotta do now is track it. Unless it's been tracking US this entire time. In that case, bring it on." A couple of bushes rustled in the background. He lifted the tranq gun, and prepared to fire at whatever came out. "Oh God, I just jinxed us, didn't I?"
"Way to go dumbass." Ben whispered.
The rustling got louder, but a voice was heard. "The tracks lead over here." Darius lowered the gun, and the bushes revealed Brooklynn coming out with Sammy, Kenji, and Yasmina behind her. Darius was confused for a second. He started walking towards the group, and Brooklynn walked up to him as well. They met in the middle, and they pulled each other into a hug. Darius laughed for a second, and Brooklynn sighed.
Finally, they pulled apart, and Brooklynn's hand went flying into Darius's face. His cheek stung like hell, and he groaned. "Agh, what the hell?"
"You said that you would carry me to the boat." Brooklynn told him.
Darius defended himself, but was so confused. "I said until you could walk. And you're walking, aren't you?"
"You then LEFT us to deal with the Scorpius alone." she continued.
"Uh, I was trying to save BEN over here." Darius continued to defend himself. "Say hello Ben."
"Hello Ben." the youngest said in a monotone.
Brooklynn was now confused. "Has he always been this much of an asshole?"
Darius admitted, "It's a recent development."
"Just don't leave like that again, okay?" Brooklynn said. She pulled him into another hug. "You ran off when you faced Mitch and Tiff, and you got shot. You ran off to find Ben, which is better, but we're supposed to be a team."
Darius sighed. "I know. I'm sorry. But we're all together again. And we're going to kill the Scorpius's."
Kenji asked, "Wait, did you just refer to the Scorpius as a plural?"
"There's two." Ben confirmed.
Kenji groaned. "Look, we've found Darius and Ben. We've been through enough hell. We should get out of here while we can."
"We might not even MAKE it to the boat." Darius told him. "They can make more of themselves. And I want to get out of here as much as you do, but we have a boat now. If we were on more of a time crunch, I would say, 'Damn this place to hell.' But we've got time now." Darius looked at everyone. "I won't force anyone to do anything they don't want to do. So, let's put this to a quick vote. If you feel like staying for a little while longer and fighting two monsters, raise your hand." Darius, and Ben raised their hands. "Okay. And who thinks that we've done enough, and want to go home right now?" Sammy, Kenji, Yaz, and Brooklynn raised their hands. "Alright. That's that then. Let's go home."
The six teens started their walk back. But a few steps in, and Darius felt something drop on his head. He felt it, and it didn't feel like rain. It felt like... Slobber? Darius risked looking up. In the trees above them, a Scorpius Rex looked down at them, menacingly. It growled, then gave out a loud roar. "RUN! FOLLOW ME!" Darius raced up the hill, and the others weren't too far behind. The Scorpius, who had no scars on his face was gaining ground. They had gotten the doors open. Darius reached for his Glock and fired a couple of shots at it. He wasn't sure if any of them hit, but at least he got a couple of bullets in the air.
They got inside of the Visitor's Center, and let themselves catch their breath for a second. Looks like they were fighting the spawns either way. A bunch of Compys ran past the feet of the six campers. Darius looked in the direction they were coming from. A couple of loud footprints alerted them that something else was here. When it came into sight, the kids realized that it was the other Scorpius with it's snout being all scarred up.
Darius put his Glock back in his pants, and prepared to fire the tranq darts. The Scorpius roared at Darius in recognition. As everyone else panicked, Darius aimed and fired at the mouth of the Scorpius. It hit the throat perfectly. It roared in pain, and groaned, stumbling back a few feet. Everyone waited for it to pass out, but the Scorpius shook it's head for a few seconds, and was fine. "Oh sh-" RRRRRRHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOREEEE!
The monster hybrid leaped towards them. The campers ran to the stairs on their right. Darius turned around to shoot the Scorpius with another dose. The Scorpius bit down on the tranq gun, but Darius was too slow to pull the trigger again. It flung the tranq gun away from them with ease. Darius quickly followed the others up the stairs. He took out his Glock again and fired a couple of bullets. He bought himself enough time to follow the teens into a kitchen. It was a very dirty kitchen. But it had hiding places.
Brooklynn pulled Darius closer to her by grabbing onto his vest. She hung onto him like her life depended on it. And to a degree, it DID. A loud snarl was heard outside. Nobody risked looking, or peaking over cover to give the Scorpius confirmation they were here. They just stayed as quiet as possible. Footsteps receded down the hall. The teens let out a soft sigh. The Scorpius had passed over them.
BAM! RRRRRRHHHOOOOOOOOOOREEEE! The kitchen door burst open, causing the teens to scream in fear. The monster started to crash into things, trying to kill anyone. Darius shot again and again. His Glock clicked empty.
Kenji saw that Darius was being cornered by the Scorpius. He took out the gun that Darius gave him, and fired a bullet. He was aiming for it's head, but it ended up hitting the shoulder. The Scorpius screamed in pain, so Kenji figured that was good enough. "Kenji, the stove!" The teen realized what he meant, and turned on the gas stoves all the way up. The flames lit up the grey kitchen.
The Scorpius stopped flailing, and became entranced by the flames. The teens used it as an opportunity to escape. The Scorpius attacked the flames, and kept trying to put it out. When everyone was out of the kitchen, Darius raised his Glock, which he reloaded. After aiming at his target, he shot once, and got the hell out of there. The Scorpius looked around for the weird smell. It heard a whistle, and started to run, but it was too late. The gas stoves exploded in front of the Scorpius.
Darius caught up with the others. "Outside!" Yasmina yelled.
"What about the other one?" Brooklynn questioned.
"I'll take my chances!" Kenji told her.
The doors opened, and they saw a figure. The figure leaped, and landed right in front of the six kids. "Blue." Darius said out loud. She snarled and hissed at the six intruders. But she looked more pissed at Darius. The campers raced back into the Visitor's Center, and tried to close the door on her again. But after struggling for a few minutes, she finally pushed through. Darius stood in front of the others, hoping that maybe he could talk her out. She seemed to understand orders to a degree.
"Up on the metal bars!" Yaz shouted. "We can climb up above-" HRRROOOOORA! The six teens fell back. The Scorpius had returned. It was so pissed off. It's burn marks didn't improve it's mood.
Kenji noted, "Scorch marks. Anybody ELSE feeling Deja Vuish?"
"Not the time Kenji!" Sammy shouted.
The Scorpius looked past the campers at Blue. The raptor stood there, and thought, What is this ugly motherfucker doing in my house? She snarled back at the Scorpius. A third roar was heard above Blue and the first Scorpius. Everyone looked up as Blue tilted her head. TWO ugly motherfuckers? Alright! A challenge.
As the two Scorpius's started to battle it out on the ceiling, Darius had stumbled back. Everyone realized that they were cornered. Blue behind them, and the two hybrids on the ceiling. Darius saw the tranq gun on the ground. He reached for it, but Blue let out a small snarl and put her face in front of hers.
They locked eyes for a second. Darius wanted to use the dart gun because they still needed to kill them. She gave a slightly louder growl. Darius remembered that the dart gun represented their truce. So he lifted his hands, and lowered his head in submission. The raptor let out a loud roar, and ran past Darius. The teen looked, and saw that the Raptor was now fighting the Scorpius's. But she couldn't take them both on alone. He pumped his shotgun. Blue was taking care of the Scorpius with the marks on it's snout. Darius aimed at the Scorpius on the ceiling. The smaller hybrid got down on the ground, and started to face Darius. Blue had gotten the other one out of the way, and started attacking the other one with Darius.
The three dinosaurs crashed into the building so much, the walls were starting to crumble. "We've gotta go. If the roof collapses, we're going to be crushed." Kenji told them.
"But so will THEY!" Brooklynn realized. She saw that Darius kept firing at the Scorpius's. Looking at the metal bars, she saw that they looked like they were doing most of the support. As she pushed on the support beams, Brooklynn said to the others, "Help me push!" Everyone besides Darius pushed on the beams.
Darius ran out of ammo for his shotgun. He threw the gun to the ground, and took out his Glock once again. He fired a couple of shots at the Scorpius's, who for the time being, teamed up to fight Blue. The Raptor was small, very quick, and VERY agile, so they were having a hard time keeping her down. Darius didn't want to risk a stray bullet hitting the Raptor, so he stepped closer and closer. He kept shooting slowly and walking. He saw the tail flailing around, and the direction it was going. He braced himself as he got hit by the tail, sending him backwards. As he hit the ground, he realized the tail had hit him. He checked himself, and saw that he was okay.
A boulder fell from the ceiling next to Darius. He flinched at the sound. Looking up, he saw that the roof was collapsing. "Darius, let's go!" The teen ran to them, and grabbed the shotgun. Looking back to the three dinosaurs, he saw Blue get thrown towards him. She got up, and snarled at the Scorpius's. He let out a sharp whistle. She looked back at him, and he motioned for her to get out of the building. She ran, and so did he. The two Scorpius's saw the roof and heavy concrete fall down on them. They attempted to run, but they got caught in the debris.
When the dust cleared, the six teens let out a sigh of relief. Finally, the nightmares were over. But before they could celebrate any longer, a shuffle in the debris was seen and heard. A couple of pieces moved out of the way. They saw the Scorpius with the burn marks and bullet wounds on it's snout. Darius was getting fed up with dealing with this crap. He walked up to it, and took out his Glock once again. The Scorpius looked at him with hate. The teen just looked at him, pointed the gun at it's throat, and shot it. The Scorpius groaned in pain, but still kept breathing. Darius pulled the trigger again and again. Finally, the Scorpius took it's last breath, and choked on it's own blood.
Darius sighed, and walked back to the group. He looked down, and saw that he had blood on his vest. He took it off, and groaned. He left it on the ground, and picked up his shotgun. Darius looked around for Blue. He saw her in the bushes. They locked eyes for just a moment, and he saw what looked like a look of approval. That raptor was really something. Without another word, Blue just disappeared into the bushes. Darius sighed and just stood there. Everyone started walking back to the boat. They didn't want to fight, but they didn't really have a choice at that point. At least they could leave now. Darius felt a hand touch his shoulder. He looked, and saw Brooklynn. They locked eyes for a few seconds, as she pulled him away from the fallen building.
They caught up with the others, and took in everything the island had to offer them. Sammy said, "I love how beautiful this place is, but damn it, I'll be glad to get home."
Everyone chuckled at her. Darius gave Ben a nudge on the shoulder. Ben was confused for a second, but remembered. "Um, guys, I have something to tell you." They all stopped walking, and looked at him. "I'm... Not... Coming with you."
Everyone besides Darius looked at him with shock and confusion. "Wh-what?" Yaz finally spoke up.
"I've decided that... I love being here. It's not so bad now that the Scorpius's are dead." Ben explained. "It's what I need."
The four campers looked at him with sadness in their eyes. "I know that it sucks," Darius told them, "but we have to respect his desicion. I think that he's finally confident in himself, but he's worried that if he leaves, he'll lose it again."
Yaz shook her head and started walking away to the boat. Sammy said, "As long as you're sure this is what YOU want to do." Ben nodded. The group resumed walking, but they slowed down a bit. If this was going to be the last time that they saw him, they wanted to soak up every second.
As they were walking, Ben was thinking about what Darius told him. After many fights with his brother, he came to a decision. Well, there are only two decisions for him to make. Either stop, or keep it up. It's that simple. And if a hard habit is broken, it's going to cause chaos. I've already found myself on the island. The first time I ever felt I truly belonged. So, what did Darius choose?
Before he knew it, they were at the boat. The sun had set, and the night had rolled in. The five campers turned to look at Ben. "Well, I guess this is it." he said.
"Are you sure that this is what you want?" Brooklynn asked him.
Kenji agreed. "Yeah man. After everything that's happened, it's fucked up that you DON'T want to leave."
Ben chuckled. "Yeah, it seems that way. But again, the Scorpius is gone."
"But every time I think about you being alone..." Sammy started to get chocked up.
"I know. But I'll be okay." Ben assured them.
Yaz was the first one to pull him in for a hug. A few seconds passed, and everyone else joined in. Once they broke away, Yasmina held him a little tighter. "I'll miss you."
"We all will." Brooklynn assured him.
They stood there and smiled for a few more seconds. Darius broke them up. "Come on guys. He's made up his mind. We've got to respect it. We can't force him to come with us."
The campers boarded the boat. Kenji took the wheel, and waited for Darius to say they were ready. Yaz and Ben shared a smile before she got onto the boat. Darius was about to walk on, when Ben said, "I give up." Darius looked at the younger teen. "You only had two options. Either one affected you. If you kept going, problems were going to happen for you and your family, but if you stopped, then YOU alone would have faced the problems. So, what did you do?"
Darius answered him after a second. "We've spent almost all of our time together. The six of us have become a small family. We were all we had. Same with my family back home. My brother, Uncle, and Aunt. They were all I had." Darius pointed to the boat. "Do you consider them your family?" Ben nodded. "Then you have your answer." Darius got onto the boat, leaving Ben stunned for a moment.
The boat started to move away from the dock. Darius, Brooklynn, Yaz and Sammy watched Ben. "Stay safe Ben!" Sammy shouted.
"We love you!" Yaz shouted back.
"Love you too." Ben whispered. Not wanting to make this harder on himself, he turned and walked back up the dock. But Darius's words continued to dance around in his mind. "My brother, Uncle, and Aunt. They were all I had. Do you consider them your family? Then you have your answer." Ben continued to think. We've spent so much time together. They helped me become who I am now. But, maybe that's the point. If they helped me become who I am, then they would help me if they ever felt I was becoming less than that. Ben's eyes widened as he came to his realization. I can take this new self with me, and if I ever have a hard time, they will be there for me. Ben turned around, and raced back down the dock. The rain had started up again. He saw the boat in the distance. "Guys!" he yelled as loud as he could. "Wait! Guys, wait! Come on, I was just kidding!"
Darius saw Ben running down the boat and dive right into the water. "Kenji, full stop!" Everyone watched Ben swim towards them. After a couple of minutes, he finally made it to the boat. Darius grabbed his wrists, and pulled Ben up.
After catching his breath, Ben looked at Darius and said, "You realized that your family was there for you. They would help you when you were struggling. So, I can take this new self with me, and know that you guys will ALWAYS be there for me." Everyone smiled. He had finally gotten the point. "You guys don't look that surprised to see me."
Darius told him, "We knew that you needed to come to that decision on your own. We've all been there. When you feel like everyone's trying to control you, you make rash decisions. And I'm glad that we were right about you." Darius wrapped his arm around Ben's neck, and gave him a noogie. "Took you long enough, you little shit." Everyone laughed.
"Seriously?" Sammy said. "Nobody could clue me in? Oh, well. At least we're all together."
The five friends made it up to the stern of the boat. "Alright Kenji, full speed ahead to Costa Rice!" Everyone cheered at that. "If we're lucky, we'll make it by sunrise."
BAM! A bright light shined on the stern where the kids were. Darius looked up, and saw a bunch of helicopters flying above them. "You on the boat! Return to the dock and cut the engine IMMEDIANTLY!"
Darius had one question. "Who are these guys?"
And that's where I leave you. I lied. THIS is my longest chapter ever. Alright, imma go watch the last few episodes of season 3 and do some more writing. Anyways, hope you guys have a good day, stay home, stay safe.
