Guest: Filmento just put a video of Jurassic World Dominion. I highly recommend watching it to understand why I didn't like the movie.
Have a good day everyone, stay home, stay safe.
The cops just arrived, and were getting statements from everyone. Kenji was nowhere to be seen. The teens figured that Ben had hit him hard enough to knock him out, or his head was still hurting like hell. Darius and Brooklynn did their best to stay close to each other. When she cleaned his face, the memories of Nublar came rushing back to him. He realized no matter how much he didn't want it to be true, he needed her.
"Mr. Bowman, do you want to press charges against Mr. Kon?" the officer getting his statement asked.
Darius shook his head at her. "No. Kenji's a good friend. I think we all just kind of snapped. It's been a long year, with everything that's happened to us."
The officer nodded. "I understand." She started to walk away, but turned around. "And I can't imagine what you six want through. I'm so sorry."
The oldest teen nodded. A moment later, Brooklynn sat down next to him. "Are you okay?" he asked her after a minute.
She nodded. "I will be." After another few seconds of silence, she continued, "We're all spiraling out of control, aren't we? We thought we could get back into our regular lives, but it seems like we can't do that, can we?"
"We're only going to be okay if we stick with each other." Darius said. "And, speaking of sticking together, I need to tell you something I should have told you months ago." Figuring that there probably wouldn't be a better time, Darius decided to go for it.
Darius turner to her, and said, "You drive me crazy Brooklynn. The way you're quick to think of a solution, offer another plan, the way you argue with me, you drive me insane. Knowing that you're okay is what helps me sleep at night. Because I love you Brooklynn. And I know that my timing sucks because you're moving, but I finally figured out that I wanted you. I want to be in love with you. But even if I can't, then fine. It's just my heart that will never heal."
The two teens had scooted closer to each other, with Darius leaning towards her as he spoke. Darius managed to get himself 90 percent of the way, waiting for Brooklynn to close the rest of the gap. Brooklynn smiled as she realized he was not only being serious with her, but she was right. He did have feelings for her. The teens closed their eyes as they had their second kiss.
They didn't care who saw, they just enjoyed the moment. They were in a small corner of the room, so they weren't worried too much. That is until they heard Sammy whoop, and Yaz and Ben clapping and whistling. Darius and Brooklynn laughed at their friends. At least they are enjoying themselves. he thought.
"Excuse me, you guys, but I have some bad news to tell you guys." a medic came over the the five teens. "Um, we found a body on the side of the house. Its the side that has the room that Darius and Kenji fought in. Well, we quickly pronounced Kenji Kon dead after suffering severe trauma to his chest and face and forehead."
"Wait, so you mean to tell us that Kenji's... dead?" Sammy asked, fear in her voice.
The medic sighed, and said, "I'm so sorry."
As soon as the medic turned around, Brooklynn turned back to Darius and sobbed in his shoulder. He held onto her, and soon, the others joined the hug and mourned for their friend.
Two days later
After a short investigation into Kenji's death, the security cameras in the room showed that three minutes after Darius and Ben left the room, he had gotten up, and became more angry. He threw around more stuff, and finally collapsed and cried on the ground. About fifteen minutes after the cops had arrived, Kenji walked over to the window. And just as a cop was about to check up on him, the teen threw himself down from the window onto the hard concrete below.
Because of the shortness of the investigation, Kenji was able to have a funeral pretty quickly. Alfred bought the girls dresses and suits for the boys. The five teens stood at Kenji's freshly covered grave. Darius stared at the ground, memories of his mother playing in his head, some meshed with his memories of Kenji. Darius and Brooklynn held hands.
"He was suffering all this time." Darius thought out loud. "And I didn't notice, or... Even care enough to look. I was supposed to help him get through this. And I failed. He's right. I am selfish."
Brooklynn shook her head. "No. He knew that we would always be here for him. He chose to keep his feelings inside. We're going to have to find a way to get through this and live with his choice."
Ben put a hand on his shoulder, and Sammy and Yaz hugged Darius and Brooklynn. "I'm gonna miss the way he would always make me laugh. Even if it was at the expense of himself, he always made me laugh." Sammy said.
"I'm gonna miss how cocky he was." Yaz admitted. "Seeing his dumbfounded face whenever someone proved him wrong."
Ben took his turn. "I'm gonna miss his bad jokes, and watching him slowly shut up realizing nobody was listening or laughing."
"I'm gonna miss how determined he was." Brooklynn said. "That is, when he cared enough about something."
Finally, it was Darius's turn. "I'm gonna miss how loyal you were." he said. "Even if we didn't always agree on something, even when we fought over what was the right thing to do, you always tried to keep everyone else in the front of your mind." After another moment of silence passed, he continued, "I'm sorry that I didn't try to help you sooner. One day, I told you that I loved you like a cousin. But I realize that we were always brothers. We fought like brothers. We acted like brothers. We were brothers. I'm so sorry I failed you."
The teens stood in front of their friend's grave for a few more minutes before they slowly decided to leave. Brooklynn and Darius were hanging in the back of the pack. He slowly stopped walking, and said, "I love you Brooklynn."
She smiled, and said, "I love you too Darius." After giving each other another kiss, they continued walking.
"I overreacted when you told me you were moving." Darius admitted. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay." she said, forgiving him. "So, does this mean that we're officially dating?" Brooklynn asked.
"I don't know." he admitted again. "Do your parents like me?" It was his turn to ask the question.
Brooklynn nodded. "For the most part. I think it would come as a shock for them to hear we were dating. What about your family? Do they like me?"
"Well, you've got my brother's approval." Darius assured her. "He's difficult to please. He doesn't even like Katie."
Brooklynn raised an eyebrow. "Who's Katie?"
Darius's eyes widened as he realized what he just said. "Aww, shit." he muttered under his breath. "Um, Katie is the girl I am currently with." the teen admitted, hanging his head.
"And, you didn't think this was something I needed to know?" she asked, getting frustrated with him again.
"I started dating her after the fight we had." Darius admitted. "I was quick to get back together with her because I was trying to get you out of my head. Clearly, it wasn't working."
"'Back together?'" Brooklynn repeated. "So, you're not only dating someone, you got back together with an ex."
"Again, I was trying to get my mind off of you." Darius said, trying to keep her calm. "Kenji pointed out to me a while ago that I don't even love her. I love YOU Brooklynn. I love YOU. I'm just going to go to a collage wherever you live. That will make waiting for you easier."
Brooklynn, who was still angry, said, "Oh, so you planned to keep me as a side bitch until I was old enough to be the main course? Good to know."
"Okay, that was hurtful." Darius said.
"Good." Brooklynn snapped at him. She sighed, and calmly asked, "You don't love her?"
"No." Darius answered firmly with no hesitation. Pulling her closer, he said, "I was going to break up with her when I got back anyways. I love YOU Brooklynn. I don't want anyone else. Just you."
Brooklynn nodded. "I guess this whole fight could have been avoided if I had told you I was moving to Montana to be close to you."
This time Darius was confused. "Wait, what?"
"I know, I know." she quickly said. "I wasn't sure if you still didn't love me, so I decided I was going to see how you'd react. I could have just told you a day or two after we fought."
"So, you could have told me you were moving to Montana, but you didn't think this was something I needed to know?" Darius said, mimicking her voice and words from earlier.
"Oh yeah. Real mature Darius. Go ahead, rub it in." Brooklynn rolled her eyes, and punched his shoulder playfully. They both smiled, and put their heads together for a few seconds. As they walked back to the limo, Brooklynn asked, "What time does your flight leave tomorrow?"
"Around noon." Darius answered. "And yours?"
"I leave in a few hours, actually." she told him. "I've got stuff to make sure I packed so I can be at the airport early."
Darius nodded. As they saw the limo in view, the older teen asked, "When will you get to Montana?"
"Probably less than a week after school starts." Brooklynn said. "As the new kid, everyone will kind of expect me to be late and not knowing what to do."
Darius nodded again. "Don't worry. It's a lot like prison. You start in one class at eight. When the bell rings, you move to another class. You get half an hour of lunch. If you're like me who hates trudging around a lunch box all day, ten of those minutes are spent waiting in line for the chicken teriyaki. The next three is spent looking for a table that ISN'T gross, by a trash can, or next to the group of bullies that are hazardous to your health. And then you are left with twelve minutes to shove your food down your throat and take a shit because of all the sodium you force-fed yourself."
Brooklynn was listening, kind of laughing. But then she did the math after Darius stopped talking. "Wait, that's only twenty five minutes. What happened to the other five?"
Darius gasped as he forgot one crucial piece of information. "Oh yeah. The last five minutes are spent sprinting to the other side of the school so you can be on time for your next class. And then, for the rest of the day, you start counting down the bells until you can go home. But, don't leave until the teachers dismiss you. They think the bell, doesn't dismiss you, they do. And one more thing, Khan Academy is your friend for math. It makes your algebra homework much easier."
"If you keep giving me more information, my brain is going to explode." Brooklynn told him.
Darius shook his head. "Don't worry, you'll figure out the rest as you go."
Later, the teens all watched as Ben drove home with his mom, and Darius stayed as long as he could with Brooklynn before she had to go check in for her flight. He enjoyed having little to no tension with her again. It was even better now that he was going to ask her out once she got to Montana. Brooklynn scooted closer to him and adjusted her head on his shoulder as they sat for as long as they could before she had to go past the gate.
The two teens had their hands entangled with each others. Somewhere along the way, Sammy and Yaz had broken away from the pack. Darius wasn't sure where they were, but he knew that they were watching from far away.
Finally, she decided that she had to get past the gate. Her flight was going to be there in two hours. "I'll see you again in a few weeks." she told him as they stood up.
Darius nodded. "I'll see you soon." With that, they pulled each other into another kiss, but were interrupted when Yaz and Sammy came to say goodbye. Darius watched her check in, and get passed security for as long as he could before she was put of sight. When he turned around to see Yaz and Sammy smiling and staring at him, he raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"Nothing." the girls said at the same time. "Just glad that you finally went for it." Sammy said.
"We had a bet going for a while about weather or not you would chicken out." Yaz admitted. "I thought I was winning for a while, but it looked like I lost." The girls then opened their wallets, and Yaz pulled out a one hundred dollar bill.
Sammy extended her hand, and Yaz put the cash into her hand. "Thank you." she said as she put the cash into her wallet.
Darius rolled his eyes. "With friends like these, who needs enemies?" he muttered. Sammy's flight left a few hours later.
Yaz and Darius sat down at the dinner table, and ate in silence. Neither one of them would go into the living room. It was too painful to know that's where he decided to end his life. After they were done eating, they went up to their room. Yaz and Darius both left tomorrow.
Knowing that Darius was probably inside his head, Yaz told him, "You know it's not your fault, right?" Darius looked at her. "You didn't do anything wrong. We all did the best we could to help him."
"He wasn't mad at your guys. He was mad at me." Darius said. "And in a way, he's right. I did help kill Mae and his father."
"We all pushed him to spy and turn his father in." Yaz countered.
"But it was my plan." Darius explained. "I'M the one who called the CIA. I'M the one Kenji came to after his father died. I should have done better to help him. I guess I just didn't care enough. Or maybe I didn't want to."
Yaz shook her head. "Stop the bullshit. Okay? You have this insane thing you do when something goes wrong, you blame yourself. It's not your fault. Their deaths are NOT your fault, okay? You never needed to blame yourself."
Darius shakily took a breath. "I promised I would take care of them. And I've failed both of them. How am I supposed to take care of Brooklynn?"
"You're going to do your best to be there for her." Yaz said. "Besides, we're still in High School. It's not like you're prepping to have a kid or getting married."
Darius nodded. "Good point."
"About the kid or the marriage thing?" Yaz asked.
"Both." he answered. "Alright, well, I guess we better get some sleep. We've got early flights in the morning. Good night."
"Good night, Darius." Yaz responded.
A few days later, Darius was back in Montana, prepping for the school year. Katie had dragged him out of the house because she wanted to spend the evening with him. She got the feeling that something was wrong with him. He hasn't talked to her at all since he got back.
The two teens were walking around the town. The school year started in less than three days, so they had a little bit more prepping to do. Katie's parents weren't coming home until the early morning before the school day, so she planned an evening with him.
To say Darius was nervous was an understatement. He was trying to figure out how to break up with her, but he had been dealing with Kenji's death that he didn't really have time to come up with a good way to break up with Katie.
"Are you feeling okay?" she asked him.
"Yeah." he answered. "It's just that... I lost my friend when I went to New York." Darius explained. "It just brought back some painful memories."
Katie nodded. "How you holding up?"
"Fine. It's just hard." Darius admitted. "Just feels like I'm constantly losing people I love, and I can't do anything about it."
Katie grabbed his hand. "Well, just know that you'll never lose me."
Darius nodded and sighed. "Um, about that. I have to tell you something." Katie and Darius stopped, and faced each other. "I'm not afraid to lose you." She raised an eyebrow and frowned slightly.
"You don't give me that feeling that I thought I had. I'm going to be honest, I think I got over you quickly last time. I don't think I ever loved you. TRULY loved you. And after everything that's happened, I think that we're just too different now. Had we tried again sooner, I think I wouldn't feel this way, but too much has changed between us." he explained. "I'm sorry, but I don't love you the way I thought I did. And I can't continue to lie to myself or you, because that's not fair for either of us."
Katie nodded. "Wow." She looked him up and down, in the eye to see if he was joking with her. He didn't even blink. "Wow. Okay, so we're doing this again. You don't know what you want, so you're taking some time to think it over."
Darius shook his head. "No. I know what I want. I just don't want you. I don't blame you for being mad. I hate myself too at times. But the feeling just isn't there anymore Katie. I'm sorry."
Katie went back and forth between shaking her head and nodding. "Well, if you don't want me, then I wish you good luck. I just... really wish you were more honest with yourself." Trying one more thing, she grabs his jacket, and pulls him in for one more kiss. He doesn't return it. They pull away, and she looks at him with a mix of disappointment and sadness. "Well, I guess this is it. Not exactly the best way to start the school year, since I'm still going to cheerleader tryouts."
Darius smirks. "Well, this gives you a chance fo go after the Wide Receivers or any of the Linebackers. They've got some height to them." They both smiled at each other.
"Well, see you around Darius." his once again ex girlfriend said.
"Goodbye Katie." They both walked in opposite directions back to her house and him back to his jeep. He sighed, and felt so much better. His chest didn't feel as tight anymore. He was, for the first time in a long while, free. He didn't understand why it was so hard for him to be honest about what he felt, but he had to admit, it was a fantastic feeling.
The day that his senior year started was pretty crazy. It felt like everyone was trying to take a picture, or ask him questions about the island. And that was just after he had parked and gotten out of his jeep.
His football buddies were quick to get him away from the crowd and protect him. He got into the school building and his friends escorted him to the gym to get his schedule. He saw Brooklynn's name, and decided to grab her schedule as well. He inspected what she had for classes. Due to them being in different grades, they only had one class together. That was P.E. Unfortunately, when he texted her this morning, she said she wouldn't be there until next week. He needed to ask her out the first chance he could.
At lunch, Darius called Brooklynn. She was in the middle of dinner, but her parents allowed her to talk. "Hey. How's priso- I mean, school?" she asked him.
He sighed. "Ha ha. Hilarious. It's fine. I'm getting my daily rations right now. I've got about..." Darius checked his imaginary watch. "ten minutes left until the guards kick us back into the next cell."
Brooklynn laughed. "I'm over here enjoying my freedom."
Darius chuckled as well. "Enjoy it while it lasts. Did your parents buy the house here?"
She nodded. "We leave at the end of the week. Got to sell everything we can. It's just going to be cheaper to buy new things than pay for shipping. Probably going to join school on Tuesday."
"Speaking of school, I've got your schedule." Darius held up her paper. "And we have one class together, which is P.E."
Brooklynn smiled. "Awesome." She suddenly put her plate in front of the phone, and started waving her plate of salad and chicken. Darius audibly gasped, and groaned. With a frown, he put his camera down, and showed her the sloppy and greasy box of chicken teriyaki.
Brooklynn laughed as he put his camera back up to his face with a frown. "What class do you have next?" she asked him.
He shrugged. "I don't know. One of my remaining core classes or something. I've got football practice after school too. Gotta get prepped for the season starting next month." The two teens spent the next few minutes, and Darkus checked the clock on his phone. "Alright, well, I've gotta get to my class. I'll see you next week?"
Brooklynn nodded. "Tuesday at the latest."
"Alright." Darius said. Before they hung up, he said, "I love you."
She continued to smile. "I love you too. See you Tuesday."
"See you Tuesday." he repeated. As he got up, he bumped into one of his Wide Receivers, Blake. Blake was staring at him with a cheeky grin. "What are you looking at, asshole?" But he already knew that Blake had heard a majority of his conversation.
"Nothin'." the teammate denied, clearly lying.
Darius nodded. "That's what I thought, you crazy Dutch bastard." The irony of this is that Blake's family is actually Dutch.
Next Tuesday
Well, today is the day I see her again. Darius thought. For the first time, he actually cared about the clothes he was going to wear. He obviously was wearing jeans and his best shoes. And Lord knows you don't need to overthink socks. The problem was always the shirt. His face is fine. He shaved. All that's left is a little mustache. He was going for a Bruno Mars or The Weeknd style.
He decided that he was just going to own a loose gray shirt, and a dark red and gray over shirt. (Look up Bruno Mars Casual) With everything picked out, he grabbed his back pack, and got to his Jeep. After driving for a while, he got to his school.
Darius hopped out, and waited at the entrance for Brooklynn. A few minutes later, he saw a car pull up, and out came a girl wearing ripped black jeans, an orange shirt, and a thin, kind of see through, yellow over shirt. Because she had a dark red and brown hair color, Darius didn't think it was Brooklynn. That is until, she turned around and looked towards him.
The two teens locked eyes with each other. Darius couldn't believe that it was Brooklynn walking towards him. She looked so different. He wasn't going to say she wasn't pretty before. Sure, he's thought she was pretty for a while now. And he fell in love with everything she is. But without the façade of internet sensation, and just being who she was, just made her that much more beautiful in his eyes.
When she got less than two feet away from him, he could see her cheeks slightly rosy. She was also looking down slightly. He decided to break the ice with her. "I like your hair."
She looked him in the eye this time. "Thanks. Justin Bieber called me. He said he wants his mustache back."
Darius laughed. "It's that bad, huh?"
Brooklynn shook her head. "I'm just shitting on you. It actually looks pretty cool. Were you going for the Bruno Mars look?"
"I think it looks better." he answered honestly.
She shook her head again. "You look good, but you don't look THAT good."
They laughed as they went into the school. Darius walked her to her first class. "Alight, here is homeroom. I'll see you in P.E. in a few hours." She nodded. He watched her long enough to get into class.
A few hours later, Darius was waiting for her in the gym. He and a few other members of the basketball and football teams had already gotten changed, so they were just waiting for everyone else to get out of the locker room.
He watched as everyone slowly made their way into the gym. Brooklynn came out a few minutes later in her gym clothes. And her hair had gotten long enough that she decided to wear it in a ponytail like Yaz. Except he thought she looked better because he was biased.
The teachers had started the warmup for P.E. Brooklynn and Darius were doing much better than everyone else in terms of running and endurance. The pushups and muscle warmups were harder for Brooklynn, but Darius seemed to keep doing it with ease. Even the members of the football and basketball teams couldn't seem to keep up with him.
Looks like he's gotten stronger. Brooklynn thought. She watched him as he barely broke a sweat. On the other hand, she was struggling to keep up with the two sports teams. But she was doing better than most of the other girls and boys. So, at least she had that going for her.
The one big group was then split into two. Darius's class would go against Brooklynn's in dodgeball. The two teens acted like they were sad about facing each other, but all that was quickly thrown out the window when the teacher blew her whistle.
Darius waited in the back, and let the others on his team scramble for the balls first. Brooklynn was quick to grab a ball, and scramble back. It was a lot more chaotic than she realized it would be. Either that, or it's been too long since she has played dodgeball at school.
Brooklynn had managed to get a couple of people out at first. Darius was using his QB strength and accuracy to hit as many people as he could. Brooklynn used her dodging skills to help keep herself out. Eventually, it was down to Darius, and a couple of people on Brooklynn's team. Darius got the two teammates out pretty easily. Now, it was down to him and Brooklynn.
He grabbed two balls, and prepared to throw them. Brooklynn immediately sent a barrage of attacks at him. Darius either dodged, or deflected them. Eventually, she ran out of ammo. She watched as all the balls were suddenly on Darius's side of the room. He tossed one of the balls he held in and out of his hand. She gave him a small, nervous chuckle as he stood there and smiled.
"Oh shit." Brooklynn muttered as Darius threw one of the balls. She quickly dodged it, but just as quickly, Darius threw his second ammo at where he predicted she would dodge to. She got hit, and the teacher whistled, signaling the game was over. His team cheered. He smiled and winked at Brooklynn who gave him a fake sad face.
The rest of the class went pretty much the same. Darius was able to get Brooklynn out pretty quickly for the rest of the time they played. Once the class ended, Darius waited for Brooklynn outside of the locker rooms. She got out, and walked with him to her lunch. "How were you able to get me out so many times? I thought that I was doing good the first round, but it's almost like you had me figured it out."
"I did." Darius answered honestly. "You always dodge to the right first. You act like you're gonna juke left, but you end up juking right. It's effective to do it for a little bit, but it's pretty easy to figure out."
"And you know this, how?" Brooklynn asked.
"If you play a sport, you get used to analyzing individual players." he clarified. "It actually made me think. If we're analyzing THEM, they are probably analyzing US. That's why I'm always paranoid and change up my style whenever I do it for too long."
"This has made you a better athlete overall, hasn't it?" she asked.
"I was this close to breaking 6,000 yards in my sophomore year." Darius admitted.
Brooklynn nodded, and exclaimed, "Damn. That's a lot for a high schooler. I'm guessing they're expecting you to be the next JaMarcus Russell?"
Darius scoffed. "I'm going to be better than Russell. He had talent, but he was arrogant as hell. Ended up being one of the biggest flops in NFL history."
"So, what team are you and your brother aiming for?" she asked.
"We're thinking of establishing ourselves first, and then aiming for The Broncos." Darius told her as they continued walking. "With Manning retiring, they're gonna be looking for a new franchise QB, hopefully, take my word for it and sign Brand. What about you? What do you plan on doing after High School? Gonna go back to traveling the world. vlogging and stuff?"
Brooklynn shook her head. "I think I want to start being BEHIND the camera for a change. I might join the film club or something." Suddenly, she had an idea. "I know how I could get things started. I'll film your last season of High School Football. It's gonna look good on your collage resumes, and it might get some excitement for your NFL career."
Darius smiled. "I love it. I'm not gonna have to wear makeup for this, right?"
Brooklynn laughed. "Don't worry. I can use a bunch of different filters on my phone if needed. I've gotta find a way to make you look SOMEwhat attractive."
Darius dramatically stabbed his chest where his heart would be. "That hurts."
"Baby." she said.
"Asshole." he responded.
The two teens made it to the lunch room. "Well, I guess I'll see you later?" Brooklynn asked him.
"Yeah. We'll talk after school." Darius said. "I do have practice afterwards, but we can spare a few minutes."
"Great." she said. "See you later Darius."
As she walked in, he said, "Wait. Before you go, I've been meaning to ask you." She looked him in the eye. "Do you wanna go out this weekend? I don't have any practice Saturdays."
Brooklynn smiled. "Sure. I'll make sure my dads are cool with it, but... It shouldn't be a problem."
"Great." he said with a chuckle. I can't believe that worked. BRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING! "Oh crap." Darius muttered. "I'm late for class. I'll see you after school at the front. Deal?"
"Deal." Brooklynn repeated.
"Great." He turned to run down the hall to his next class, but he looked back. "Love you."
"Love you too." she said as he ran down the hall. When he was out of sight, Brooklynn sighed, and walked into lunch with a big smile on her face.
AAAAAAAAAAAND scene. Whew. Well, that took longer to write. Anyways, sorry for those of you guys who liked Kenji. I just needed SOMEone to die, and that someone ended up being Kenji. Anyways, Brooklynn and Darius are together now. YAY! Because I couldn't sleep, I ended up binging Season Five of Camp Cretaceous. I gotta say, kind of glad we saw more people get eaten. And it was a little bit better than Season Four. The Kenji and Brooklynn romance still seems forced. I mean, we even got a moment with Darius and Brooklynn having a heart to heart. Brooklynn and Kenji just have zero romantic chemistry together. IDK why I'm getting so pissed at a fricking cartoon.
Also, watched the first episode of She-Hulk. Two thumbs DOWN. DEFINATLY was a waist of brain cells and forty minutes of my precious time. Don't bother watching it. Anyways, have a good day, stay home, stay safe.
