-Mouse and The Goddess-

by Mandi Cross

Once apon a time, there was a rodent that went by the easy name of Mouse. Alone, he slept in his mouse hole-night after night, but as he slept, he'd dream of a beautiful Goddess coming down from the sky and visiting him. Every dream made him love this Goddess more and more and this Goddess loved him. Mouse would wait outside his hole for the Goddess to arrive and night after night, she did. They sang, danced, and laughed together all through the night until she had to go back to her moon. They were always sad to part, but they knew that when the night came back, they'de be together. Everyday, Mouse would think about these dreams with happiness and he couldnt wait until the sun went down to see her.

One night, when Mouse was waiting outside his hole for the Goddess to come, she didnt show. He wondered why she hadnt come, what could have happened? He was sad to not see her, but he still couldnt wait until night came and he would dream of her again. Night fell and once again-no Goddess.

The poor mouse started to think that maybe his dream Goddess had forgotten all about him. "Eventhough she is a dream, I cannot help but love her and worry about her" thought the mouse. "I feel so lonely without my dreams of her."

The mouse was determined to see his Goddess again, so before he went to bed, he thought really hard about her-hoping to dream of her again. He fell asleep outside and woke up the next morning-never seeing his Goddess. The mouse was very sad and he wept for days. Mouse was very hurt and he felt alone again. He crawled into his hole and no one ever saw him come out.

One night, as he slept, he was awoken by a familiar face. He opened his eyes to see his Goddess and jumped up on her lap and wagged his tail in happiness. "Where have you been my Goddess? I thought you had forgotten me!" said Mouse. The Goddess looked at the mouse with a gentle smile and said "My dear Mouse, I could never forget you. You are my love and I care about you so. I was gone because I wanted to show you that I am not a dream, I am as real as you are. I have missed you so much my Mouse, and Im sorry to have done that to you, but I needed to show you the truth." The Mouse couldnt beleive his little ears-she's real! The mouse was never alone at all, she had been there every night for real, not in dreams.

The mouse carried this thought with him every day and every night. "I have dreamed my Goddess into life and I am not alone anymore. I have stopped dreaming, my love is real!"

The next night, Mouse waited outside his hole to see his Goddess and sure enough, she came down. He jumped up on her lap and snuggled in her robe to keep warm. The Goddess petted him gently and told him. "I am here."
