*Sly POV*
After arriving in Prehistoric Times, it took a while for us to find a proper Safehouse for the van. I was slightly concerned when Bentley broke out the dinosaur repellent but fortunately, we ended up running into a friend during our trek through the icecaps.
He was clearly a caveman warrior of some kind but when he introduced himself to us, none of us could really pronounce his name properly. We settled for calling him 'John' and, after Bentley took a DNA test out of curiosity, found out that he was Ben's prehistoric ancestor!
He asked for our help in saving his friend, who was being held captive by some bad guys. Figuring that the same group that El Jefe and Toothpick had been working for were up to no good in these times, since the next temporal disturbance was here, after all. We figured we'd help out.
What we saw came as a bit of a surprise; my own prehistoric ancestor. Guess the Shiguras and Coopers have been friends even in the ancient caveman times. Like John, my ancestor's name was pretty unpronounceable, so we settled for calling him 'Bob'. Everyone took an immediate liking to our two new prehistoric pals and they certainly took a liking to all our different gear.
After having rescued Bob, we got Carmelita, Bentley, and Penelope to check up on who was causing trouble in this time period. The guy's name was Grizz, and he had made his fame in the art world. Once a common street thug, he'd been thrust into the limelight when he was plucked from the gutter and made famous by a prominent pop artist.
Grizz's primitive artwork was hailed as a brilliant new style called "paleo-graffiti." And for a while, he enjoyed the celebrity status. His fame was short-lived, however, when people realized his art was really just...bad. Resentful, he returned to his criminal roots, quickly becoming the top art thief on INTERPOL's Most Wanted list.
Bob and John explained how Grizz had appeared and started harvesting all the pterodactyl eggs in the area, eliminating Bob's role as the main food provider for his and John's tribe as well as his title of Greatest Egg Thief ever. Depressed, he'd gone into a slump, and gotten out of shape, which allowed Grizz to capture him. Luckily, we managed to retrieve his new 'egg-catching tool' before Grizz himself could take it.
We needed to find out what sort of operation Grizz was running, and why it involved stealing all the eggs. It seems our interests in saving the timeline also mend well with helping Bob and John restore their tribe's honor.
Neyla entered the cave that the gang was using as their Safehouse. Ben's prehistoric ancestor John, a muscular and stout caveman with a black goatee, a sharp fang jutting from his lower lip, and wild black hair, was playing with Brie happily while Murray and Jing King helped train Sly's caveman ancestor Bob to get back into fighting shape.
"Did you get any information on why Grizz needs those eggs, Neyla?" Carmelita asked her former partner.
"From what I've gathered, he needs the eggs to make a special kind of paint that would make his art look authentic enough to be from this timeline. He paints with the authentic paint, buries the art underground, then he'd go back to modern times, dig it up, and make a fortune by selling it as an authentic cave painting."
"What a con! We need to stop him and get the eggs back to their rightful place!" Bentley said angrily.
"Luckily, I was able to tail that silly ol' bear as well," Neyla said with a sly grin. "The code for his little hideout just so happens to be '7832340'."
"Wonderful, sweetheart," Ben said to his wife as the two of them shared a quick kiss. Sly smiled before noticing Carmelita looking rather forlorn.
"Something wrong, darling?"
"Ringtail, for the time we've been married, I've had time to think and I realized some things. I've always chased you, arriving on the scene after the fact. But now that I've fought alongside you, with Bentley, Murray, Ben, Penelope, and your ancestors, I've noticed we aren't really so different. We both fight for justice, we just do it on opposite sides of the law. The question is: Can I live with that?"
Sly smiled and kissed his wife on the cheek. "I think you've just answered your own question, honey."
Carmelita smiled, holding Sly close to her as Ben and Neyla looked at them with smirks on their faces. Carmelita gave the other married couple a sharp glare but they simply turned away, still grinning ear to ear.
John made his way over to Ben and placed a giant hand on his descendant's shoulder. Ben perked up as his caveman ancestor led him to a wall and began writing something with cave paints. When he was done, Ben saw it was a mural depicting John's birth, his first meeting with Bob, their growing up together, finding mates, forging their tribe, and protecting their lands and people.
"That's some pretty damn good artwork. Wish I could take a picture but I don't know if it'll affect the timestream or not if I do."
John gave a deep chuckle and gestured to Ben, putting a hand on his chest before putting his hand on his chest. He then spoke in cave dialect but Ben could understand what he was seeing.
"Me...You...Family...Proud..." Ben smiled at what his ancestor was getting at. "Yeah, I think I have done my family proud."
"Alright gang, it's time for the big heist!" Bentley said as everyone got together, Bob and John looking at each other and nodding as the gang grouped up to set up the big heist to take Grizz down and retrieve the stolen pterodactyl eggs.
