The first time Sonic met Eggman, it had been a very, very strange day. His plane had been running low on fuel and he wasn't too keen on crashing into the ocean and drowning, and South Island had been the closest place to land, not too inhabited, but definitely enough to find someone who could help refuel before he headed off again. It was supposed to be simple, land, find some help, find some fuel, and go off on his way of exploring the world once again.
That simple plan became a hundred times more complicated when Sonic first met Eggman, well, his name was Robotnik, a lunatic kidnapping animals and using them to power killing machines and completely destroying South Island. Yeah not exactly a part of Sonic's plan but it wasn't exactly something he could just ignore. So he chased after the madman and started to fight him, freeing animals and finding these strange stones along the way. That was probably the weirdest part of all of this, these six stones that seemed to give off emotions and almost talk to him in one way or another. Robotnik, Sonic was calling him Eggman at this point, especially with how often he fried himself with his own machines, called them the Chaos Emeralds, and wanted them to finish whatever strange plan he was trying to accomplish, but Sonic wasn't just going to hand them over and they started their final battle. Which of course, had Sonic come out on top, with Eggman fleeing screaming that he would have his revenge.
Now Sonic could have said multiple things, but he really had bigger things to worry about, despite the fact he had stopped Eggman, South Island had still sustained some pretty bad damage from the factories that the man had set up. He didn't want to leave knowing there was still so much to clean up, but as it turned out those emeralds he had kept close decided to show off just what they could do.
In a flash of light, Sonic found that the island had been turned back to how it was before Eggman even set foot in the place. The blue blur raced around to double check everything as the emeralds vanished, seeing that things were okay now, he found himself smiling as he re-fueled his plane with some help from the ever grateful locals and was off onto his next adventure. Now with half a mind to keep an eye and ear out for that egghead, because something told him that it was far from their last meeting, and if he wanted to cause problems? Well Sonic would just have to fix them afterwards!
It was after this adventure, as Sonic was flying around trying to decide where to go next. He had a few ideas, the one that sounded the most appealing was West Side Island, apparently the beaches were beautiful and Sonic could use a vacation, sleeping in the warm sand with a hot meal did sound incredible to him. Yet something called him away, while flying towards West Side Island, he saw something in the distance, something that seemed far more interesting than what he had planned to do before.
A floating island was far off in the distance, the sheer insanity of seeing an entire floating island quickly dragged his attention and he found himself chasing after it. Wanting to know what could be on such an island. Unknowingly diverting himself away from Eggman's path, and away from someone he didn't realize he was supposed to meet.
Eggman on the other hand, kept on the path from before. With his few remaining spy bots, he had seen those chaos emeralds fix the damage done to South Island and realized they were far more powerful then he had even begun to imagine. He had created a crude tracker to hunt down the emeralds, it wasn't perfect but it was definitely enough to get him on the right course. For a moment, his machines noted that Sonic had changed paths, heading off in a new direction. Eggman had half a mind to follow him, but decided the emeralds took priority and let the annoying blue rat head off another day. Instead grinning as he watched the island grow larger in his eyes, that island held something for him.
It was just at the moment, he didn't realize that it wasn't something, it was someone that would change the story completely.
West Side Island was bigger than South Island, and it just meant it was far more ripe for the picking for Eggman. He had sent his badniks out all over the island, and sat back and watched the chaos that unfolded soon after. He got to work setting up factories and kidnapping animals and mobians alike to power his machines. Though he didn't truly have time to supervise all of this, unlike before he had time to set up all his machines, without that blue hedgehog crashing in, so he built two robots to watch over the progress of the biggest factory at the heart of the island as he continued to look around. Orbot and Cubot, not very good when fighting, but smart enough to not screw anything up.
Things had gone well during this time for a few weeks, unfortunately there had been a small riot at one of the already built minor factories during this time, and Orbot had gone offline during such, probably caught in the chaos. Shame, he had liked that one way better, but Cubot would be enough to supervise so it wasn't that big of a loss. Eggman had other focuses, he had managed to excavate four of the six, possibly seven if the stories on the island were right, Chaos Emeralds. He had been looking at the blue emerald, holding it in his hand as a million thoughts ran through his head. His plans were coming to fruition, and as long as Sonic was still busy, soon not even he could stop him.
And that was when things started to get truly interesting. Once the fifth emerald was found, Eggman noticed that the emerald wasn't the only thing showing up. He had been picking up signals from Orbot again, amazing considering he hadn't taken a single moment to find and fix the robot up after being broken by that riot. There was no directive to fix him in any other robot, and Cubot had been across the island so it wouldn't have been him, but that meant someone had fixed the bot, and that piqued the doctor's interest. Putting the emerald in its container, he decided to head off and discover what had caused this signal himself.
Out of every possible scenario rushing through his mind, a rouge bot, an escaped prisoner, hell, even the idea of a miracle came to Eggman's head as he thought about what could have happened.
To see Orbot, nearly fully functional again, being worked on by a small fox, a fox kit to be precise, with another robot he had never seen again beside them, was not at all what he expected to find. Eggman watched for a moment, realizing the kit was far too invested in repairs to even notice he was there. Small hands working with such genius and precision as they repaired the bot, ears unmoving and two tails flicking up and down-
Wait- two tails?
Well, this had just become the most interesting thing on this island so far, and Eggman was always happy to pick apart and dissect interesting things. While the fox kit was unaware of him, he clicked a few buttons on his eggmobile and quickly launched a net, capturing the small fox causing the creature to scream and panic. Eggman just chuckled at the squirming fox, noticing the small robot angrily trying to grab at the rope.
"Orbot! Grab the other bot and follow us!" The repaired bot glanced over and nodded, scooping up the smaller robot and following after, both struggling the entire way.
