"Aye, Lass, that is no way to treat the guest coming for dinner," Brynjolf said as he stepped back from the pot.
"Brynjolf, you are only a guest if you don't belong here and I know for a fact that you were brought right into the nightingales, so don't spout to me being inhospitable to a guest," Terra growled as she opened the lid and then allowed herself to grin as the stew was ready. She moved through the kitchen and grabbed the pie pans that she had prepped before jumping into the tub. She worked the ladle and filled each pan, ignored the man that was pouting in the kitchen and finished everything off to go into the oven.
"Now, now Lass. You have had a rather stressful time lately," Brynjolf allowed a wicked grin cross his face as he walked over and embraced Terra. "You haven't been at the guild lately. We miss you there."
"It is better to lead in the shadows," Terra said as she struggled to get away from him with no avail. "I am better at being like the Gray Fox instead of like the betrayer. I have nothing to worry about because you all do fine without me. I am just a figure… a place holder for something greater."
"Lass you can't look at yourself like that, you are the savior of the guild," Brynjolf pulled tighter against Terra as she tried to get away. "You need to have a better outlook of yourself. You have done a many a great things for those around us."
"Let her go, Brynjolf, she doesn't need you preaching to her about what she needs to do," Karliah had come from behind with a dagger at his throat.
"Aye, you are right," he let Terra go and moved toward the center of the room. "I meant no harm about any of it, just that our lass here needs to know that she is highly valued."
Terra sighed and went to the table where she set up the silverware and plates so that everyone could have a comfortable place to eat. "Don't bother with what I think of me, but watch what others who follow me think. I focus well when a duty is before me and right now everything has been completed so as far as I am concerned, me leaving would be ideal now that things have been finished."
"You leaving?" Karliah questioned in surprise as she sat near Terra.
"I have thought it would be better," Terra answered as she began pouring wine for each person. "The Nightingales are whole, the thieves' guilds has begun to return and though I am leader, you two really guide everyone through their jobs. So in essence I am useless now."
"Lass, you misunderstand what you are suppose to be to the guild," Brynjolf took the cup in hand and took a large gulp.
"I understand everything that you are talking about, but you two actually will be fine without me," Terra held the glass to her lips and spoke between sips. "Like I said I am a place holder, the prized items have been returned to the vault, the key has been returned and we hold the blessing from Nocturne. I believe I have fulfilled more then was required of my skill or abilities. Now let us eat and enjoy this evening." She took this time of them being stunned to go get the pies from the ovens.
Karliah reached over and patted Terra's hand before she dove into her meat pie. She moaned and licked her lips with each bite and would smile at Terra with each finished swallow. "You've out done yourself!" Karliah held her cup up and chuckled before gulping.
"This is wonderful, Lass," Brynjolf laughed and finished his pie in almost no time and finished gulping the wine down. "It is a pity no one here would take a partner." He eyed Karliah a moment after making his comment but shrugged when she didn't react to him and reached for the bottle of wine.
Terra sighed softly and moved to take all the plates, "It has nothing to do with that." She moved to the washing pot and dropped the plates in. "I leave for my own sake not for anything else or anyone else. Now I need to get ready." Terra sighed softly as she left but did listen to the two of the thieves arguing.
"Your comments to her will not make her stay," Karliah growled at Brynjolf. "She had done far more then any of us could have, she is the one who had faith in me and tried hard to figure out everything to restore us to full power."
"If you weren't so enamored with her there would be any issue of her staying," Brynjolf hissed back.
"Oh like I am the only one?!" Karliah was getting louder and Terra struggled not to go back in there to calm her. "You have shown quite enough attention to her yourself."
Terra jumped when she heard all of the sounds of the plates and other objects moving. She felt it better to leave them to their fighting so that they could work it out instead of letting her interrupt and just silence both of them instead of fixing the issue. Her room in the temple had been bare really. Some clothing, a few trinkets, but nothing more. She had no desire to make any place a home. She did it this way for herself so that she wouldn't become comfortable in one place for too long. She would not make it easy for herself to be tied to any place. She can not escape the couriers, but she could escape anyone who tried to tie them too her. It wasn't that she didn't want… love… she just didn't want to be like her mother.
The packing went well and Terra only had the single large pack that she favored set up in the corner so that once she awoke in the morning she could grab it and go. She had been worried about how Karliah and Brynjolf handled their argument, but she had no place especially now that she declared she was leaving. She did regret the fact that she was leaving, but the letter from Farkas made her realize that she had been in one place too long and it was time to disappear.
"Was it because of the courier earlier?" the voice was coming from the doorway.
"Karliah, it is simple you don't need me any more," Terra turned slowly toward the voice.
"How do you know what I need?" Karliah sounded hurt for a moment. "WE are a group. You can't leave the Nightingales."
Terra sighed gently, "I am not leaving the group. Everyone knows how to contact me. The courier can fortunately…. unfortunately in some cases, can find you anywhere." She walked over to Karliah and took her wrist and pulled her slowly into the room and shut the door. She didn't lock it because it wouldn't matter in a thieve's den. "Karliah, please understand…"
"Is it me then?" Karliah brushed her hand on Terra's cheek.
Terra took her hand and gently kissed the palm of her hand, "it has nothing to do with you and everything to me. I mean it. There is things about me that need not to come out, they are in a darker shadows then you have been hidding in and I do not want you to be any part of that." Terra listened to Karliah as she let out a soft sound as Terra's tongue traced the lines in her palm. "I will not explain anything to you even if you ask me so please do not. So with that in mind, I am not going to ask you anything so go ahead and leave, please, go," Terra pushed Karliah away gently and turned away.
Karliah pulled Terra into a harsh kiss, forcing her mouth open with her tongue and the embrace was heavy and needing. Terra couldn't gather the strength to pull away but a feeling of her betraying someone was tightening her chest. She wanted to give this dark elf something to look forward to, but the pain was too much for her to ignore and as she felt her hands go to the woman's chest she heard the door being pushed open.
"Oh so this makes sense now," Brynjolf pushed the door open and glared at the two women in the embrace.
"What the hell, Brynjolf, the door was shut for a reason!" Karliah growled as she untangled herself from Terra.
"But not locked," he pointed out as he stared at Terra.
"What is the point when we all know how to pick them?!" Karliah pushed Terra away and walked out.
Terra sighed as she watched Brynjolf shake his head and walk out of the room. Those two had fought for her attention but she was sure for different reasons. Karliah was trying to forget her past and strived to make up for the mistakes of those events. Brynjolf was just simply himself, she had figured him for someone up for challenges especially when someone declared it not a possible outcome. She stretched out on her bed, "They needed to stop stepping on each others toes and just enjoy life. She removed the nice clothing she had on and walked over to the fire placeand tossed them to remove the pain she had just felt. They would burn quickly but she didn't need any of those memories following her. Better to rid of things that caught attention and continue in the shadows.
