The sound of screaming woke Terra up. In the fog of waking she was slapped into realization that it wasn't a dream when a series of screams followed after the one that woke her. The way that the screams and shouts were coming in series of grabbled sounds followed by animal cries Terra knew exactly what was attacking this group. She ran out of her tent forgetting everything there at the camp site. She had her magic that should be weapon enough to scare the creature away from the people.
As she made it to the clearing of the forest she stood before a large dragon that was terrorizing a shepherdess and her flock of rams. The real problem for Terra was there was a child strapped to the woman's back.
"Damn!" she began casting the largest spell she could and threw it at the dragon.
The creature getting hit with the blast roared in anger and turned to the source of the pain. It roared at her and began blowing snow at her.
"Crap!?" Terra jumped out of the way. "Ice dragon!" She pulled herself up and grabbed for one of her flame potions off of her belt and let out a curse. She had left that belt at the camp. "Get out of here!" she screamed at the woman and tried to keep the dragon's attention. "If you go, your flock should go with you home!" She began trying to cast her destruction magic but she was slightly out of breath from shouting at the woman.
Soon an arrow was flying over Terra's head. The arrow hit the dragon and exploded into shards of flames. She turned to see Vilkas holding a bow and arrows. He had her belt in hand; the rest of their camping stuff was by a tree.
She could just stare for a moment. He had been amazing.
"Terra, get over here and take this from me! It was luck I hit it the first time," Vilkas shouted.
She shook free of the surprise just in time to avoid the dragon trying to stomp on her. She made over to him and took the items from him. She tried to ignore him using her name and not Harbinger.
"It's an a…" she tried to explain and he put his fingers to her lips.
"I heard you, Ice so it is weak to flame," he said holding another of her spell items and slapped it to his sword.
"Thought you couldn't do magic," she said stringing the arrow on the bow.
"I can't but I didn't say I couldn't use your scrolls," he grinned at her. "So I finally get to fight a dragon now!" He took off from their spot and went to the dragon. He dodged and weaved in between the dragon's legs.
The creature soon become irritated with not being able to eat the small prey it was hunting. It soon was flapping its wings to escape to the sky.
Terra used that time to shoot the arrows laced with the magic potions.
At one point the dragon took off but the two of them were so in tune, there was no communication needed for them. Fighting, hunting, and killing was coming to them so naturally that had anyone been watching the two of them face the dragon they would have thought it some elaborate dance.
Terra stood over the corpse of the dragon. She watched the light of life extinguish and felt as the energy flowed into her. There was no point in hiding the fact of who she was from Vilkas anymore. The glow of energy shimmered on her skin as she turned to see Vilkas staring at her.
"By the Gods, you are…" VIlkas whispered.
"Stop," Terra hissed. "I do not need to hear that name on anyone's lips."
"But you are… Harbinger…you are…" Vilkas was trying to grasp what he had just seen.
"I said to be silent. Vilkas, if you even utter anything to what the title is, I will slaughter you here," Terra barked at him to try and snap him out of the shock.
"It makes so much sense now," Vilkas was still staring wide eyed, "You disappear to do this!? You hunt dragons on your own. You disappear to fulfill the …"
Terra threw a snowball at Vilkas to stop his babbling, "Let's get the gear. We were lucky the creature was running in the same direction as the site." She walked over to where they stashed the gear and the head. She crinkled her nose as she went to reach it and then noticed that her armor and part of the clothing was torn. She looked over herself and tried to figure out how much was lost of armor. The breast plate ruined, the right sleeve was shredded, and there was now a large slash through her lower skirt. She clicked her tongue and moved to her pack, trying to remember what armor was left for her. "Vilkas, is your armor and clothing good?" she inquired as she struggled to find something.
"I'm fine, Harbinger," the sound of Vilkas voice seemed off.
"What is wrong?" Terra looked up from the bag and noticed Vilkas wasn't looking at her.
"The damage is a lot more extensive then you know…" Vilkas said as he soon turned completely away.
Terra felt a cold brush against her skin; since they weren't moving and fighting her adrenaline had dropped so she could feel the temperature now. She felt Goosebumps forming on the lower left side of her body and shifted to see that there was a chunk of her clothing gone. At the right angle someone could catch a view of the underside of her breast. From the red that was reaching Vilkas's ear now Terra figured that he had seen a lot more the he had been expecting.
"Great…" she whispered as she pulled out the only outfit left, the only armor she had was light and to make it worse was that it was corset armor that she had taken off of a vampire corpse from her last exposition. This was not going to make anything easy. "Vilkas just watch for people," Terra began taking everything off. There was no point in modesty for her now, they were out in the middle of nowhere and Vilkas could watch for anything and give her a warning.
Terra struggled with the cloth that went under the armor and was soon cursing aloud as she struggled with the light corset armor that went over the material. Why the hell would vampires wear this?! She shook her head and took a few breathes as she tried to calm down. These creatures were weak against sunlight why would they reveal so much skin then?! She hated armor that didn't make any sense. How was this protective? She managed to lace up the boots, the leg armor and the corset. The cloak she had was now the only cover for her skin against the air that was biting her bare skin now.
"I'm done," she shouted at Vilkas as she strapped her belt around her waist.
"That was a little extre…" Vilkas stuttered and swallowed hard as he looked at Terra. "I didn't know that the Harbinger was into restriction…"
Terra glared at him, "It was all I had on me that fit and was easy to move in. Don't say anything else about it." She bent down and grabbed the head. She didn't look back at him as she started their trek again.
Thanks to the dragon they had actually reached the peaks of the mountains. Looking down at the land below them was empowering. This was a view that few people saw and it made Terra feel good. The land looked at peace from here, and with the dragon gone there would be a little peace for this land for a little while.
"Terra," Vilka said softly.
Terra shivered as he said her name. It felt strange. He shouldn't attempt to feel familiar with her; there was nothing good that would come from that thinking. "Yes?" she stared straight at their target.
"We are close now," Vilkas said gently.
"Yes, you will be cured in no time at all," Terra smiled at his comment, relief washed over her. "We will make sure that you can keep your promise. Now there can't be any hesitation or your other self could take complete control. So now you will need to focus on your inner strength. It will take everything out of you after this battle."
Vilkas stayed quiet for a moment, "There is nothing to hesitate about. I will do this. It is for the best for me to rid of the creature."
Terra nodded at his comment. She could understand someone doing something for one's self. This was a good reasoning. It wasn't like he was trying to do this for someone else… that would be bad and could lead to a terrible end that no one would want.
"Terra… why did you do it? Why did the warrior before me rid of the beast that would have probably taken her further if she kept it?" Vilkas question was an interesting one.
Terra took a deep breath and thought for a moment and then smiled, "It isn't about getting ahead. I rid myself of the side of me that wasn't needed. I have so much on my shoulders now and even then the woman before you wasn't the woman who fought with you back then, but to answer honestly I didn't need the beast to go far. I could do that on my own with the drive I had. The pain that I watched Kodlak go through wasn't worth the promise of power that the beast provided. So in the end the beast was not something I wanted or needed to make it." She knew it would have been a lot easier to have kept the beast but at what cost? She didn't need anything else damning her. She had done that all on her own pretty well.
Vilkas said nothing to her response. He took a step forward and gently smiled as he passed her to take the lead again. She could tell when his arm brushed against her that he had done it on purpose but said nothing as she followed behind him continuing their adventure together.
