Good old-fashioned, army-times Towen. Or how they met, became friends, fell in love and never told each other. Canon-compliant (for now, at least). Probably multichapter. Involves high doses of Towen friendship, unspoken feelings, angst and Megan Hunt wiseness.
Prologue : Bits and Pieces
The first time I saw her, it was just before getting into this plane that was supposed to take us to Iraq.
The first glimpse I saw of her, it was her glittering blonde hair.
Even the dim light of dawn was enough to light up pale reflections onto her cascade of gorgeous, straight, soft hair. I couldn't see any of her features, because she was facing the same direction as me, but I was sure she was beautiful.
She wasn't there before. I was just starting my second tour, so I knew pretty much everyone, and I couldn't have forgotten or missed such amazing hair. But, now that I thought of it, there were a lot of new faces and only a handful of people I knew.
As I was lost in my thoughts, they finally called us to board the plane. She was one of the first to board the plane, so I didn't get to see her closely. Once I got on the plane she was already sitting, and I knew I'd finally be able to see her face. I silently scolded myself as I climbed the stairs. Why was I so attracted to someone whom I had only seen from behind? This was ridiculous.
When I finally got onto the plane I couldn't stop myself from searching for her. I managed to find her quickly because she was in the front of the plane to my right, and instantly I was left speechless in awe of her beauty.
She was gorgeous, absolutely splendid. Her beautiful golden hair framed her face perfectly and you could see her delicate, sharp, flawless features and long lashes that slightly hid the most beautiful green eyes I had ever seen. However, the thing I couldn't get over was her expression. She seemed so… lifeless. She might as well have been a ghost, because her eyes were so empty looking and full of nothingness, just a black void. I had seen this kind of expression before – it was the look you have when you just lost someone you loved. But I've never seen it to such a degree before.
All of those thoughts had crossed my mind in less than a second, and I quickly made my way through the plane to find myself a seat. I purposely chose a seat that was far from hers, so that I couldn't even catch a glimpse of her golden shining hair. As we flew over the Atlantic ocean, I couldn't stop myself from looking over to where I knew she was sitting. I wondered who she was and what kind of pain she was experiencing that could bring such a morbid expression to her face.
Heyyy, I hope you're as hyped for this as I am! This is insanely short but I couldn't wait to share it, so let's say it's because it's the prologue – or call it a teaser if you want to. But I'll try to publish the first real chapter soon! Also, huge thanks to my beta-reader who's the kindest person in the world. And thanks to whoever read this... bad teaser. I love you all!
