Terra actually avoided returning to the Mother right away. She was exhausted and needed a bath desperately. Dawnstar was ill equipped but she slept on an old cot. It was neither comfortable nor warm but it was safe and not wet. When she awoke, she went to the cold water pools and washed herself. The freezing water was cruel in its manner of shocking her to life but that is what she needed at the moment.
After dressing Terra went to the kitchen like area and watched Nazir making something in a pot.
"I hope that is a hot liquid I can drink," Terra said watching the man who had just jumped a little from her voice.
"Listener, you are cruel but to scare a man as he is working that is just low," Nazir commented as he tried to recover from her entrance.
"I meant nothing by it Nazir, I just needed something warm to drink before going to Mother for the work of the day," Terra explained.
Nazir held a cup out to her, "Now go do your job. Once you get contracts let me know so I can hand them… well to us seeing that it is you, me and Babette…"
Terra greedily took the warm beverage and slowly sipped as not to burn her mouth. She nodded as a response to the man's direction and went to the room the Night Mother had been carefully displayed in.
Terra sat on the bench before the Mother and sat quietly waiting for the voice.
"Child, we must complete the contract to kill Emperor, Titus Mese II, as we did make a deal," the Night Mother explained, "You will go to Whiterun and meet with Amaund Motierre."
Terra just listened as the Mother continued to provide several lists of contract places that needed people to go and fulfill.
Terra took the list to Nazir and explained what the Night Mother had said. He wrote down everything that Terra dictated to him all the while a slow grin forming on his face. They were starting over and this was a good sign.
Terra struggled with herself as she walked to Whiterun. She wanted to see Farkas. She had an urge to check up on him since she was already going to be there. The probably was that she had been the one to tell him she was terrible so why would she go check on him?
"Chicken, "she laughed as she reached the gate to Whiterun. She was worthless as the Harbinger, she had all reasons to go to the Companion's place and talk with them, but there was a part of her that put in great effort to stop this event from happening. With a weak resolve she decided that she would at least go check on the group.
The Jorrvaskr was up the hill and the walk to the Bannered Mare wasn't but a few feet difference so she went to the Companions first.
Aeia was near the door when Terra entered.
"Harbinger?" Aeia grinned as she walked up to the woman and hugged her. "You've been gone a while."
"Hunting and fighting, there was a lot I have done," Terra said with a smile. She was deceiving the woman a little, as an assassin; she would be rejected here. It is not honorable, but as the Listener she had a duty to people, maybe not the right kind of people but still a duty.
"Good to hear," Aeia laughed lighthearted. "What brings you?"
"I wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing," Terra said she could feel her smile leave her face.
"Farkas and Vilkas aren't here, they have been taking on a lot of jobs, they barely rest," Aeia said with some suspension. "We have had a good number of recruits, when they hear tales of you, they come to join. If they happen to see you all the more publicity for us and the more hope they get for completing the tests here."
"That is good, so you want me to do a quick training out in the yard?" Terra raised a brow.
"Yup," the huntress dragged Terra across the hall not stopping when people whispers of her excitement and hogging the Harbinger.
"The Harbinger has come to train with you all lackluster wannabes," Aeia yelled as the new recruits were lined up outside. "Suit up and face her!"
Terra shook her head, "No, no Aeia that could be dangerous…."
"As dangerous as them going out unprepared?" Aeia noted as she handed Terra a sword but no armor. The woman was making a statement and Terra knew it. If she was at her full strength or even well defended the recruits might not attack this way the group had a chance against her.
Terra let a sigh escape and stood before the group of four, it wasn't much, but more then there had been when she entered the clan. She took the sword in hand and waited.
One student over eager came charging and was soon on the floor as Terra had just tripped him. The boy was dragged off by Aeia who scolded him about form and technique.
The next was an Argonian who used her tongue as a slight distraction as she slammed her great sword into Terra's single blade. The student was heavy handed hoping that force would throw Terra off her game. She would step back as the student would come down and shifted as she sidestepped the attack. The student who had gambled that Terra would block again, struggled as the sword swished down and got stuck in the ground. Terra used that instant to gut punch the student. The Argonian struggled to stand but soon stumbled, trying to gasp air into her lungs.
The 3rd student was using two daggers and moved fast, Khajiit were light on their feet and this spotted feline was no different. Terra had to take her time as she kept her distance from the student. She didn't want to face off close. She would be at the disadvantage on this. But true to nature the student came in close, got a cut off on Terra's arm, but as the student was shocked by the blood drawn Terra punched the student in the face.
"Do not ever be shocked by the sight of blood even if you are in training," Terra growled, "Any hesitation would get you killed in the field."
The last student a Dunmer hung back and watched Terra but soon was casting spells at her. With a smirk Terra took the few flame balls and then came through with a touch spell, the student hadn't expected her to walk through the spells at him. The sword was at his throat, she nicked him gently.
"Thank you all for the training," Terra smiled softly as she dusted of the smoke on her clothing. "Please do not see this as a mark against you, but as a challenge to come back and beat me." She bowed out and was soon being called back by Aeia.
Terra stopped and waved the woman away. She had work to do and this small excursion was just what she had needed to feel a little better. Out of the corner of her eye she saw two figures in the shadows of the pillar.
The two shadows grinned gently at Terra and shook their heads. Vilkas and Farkas had been watching the training.
Terra didn't know for how long they had been there, but it made her belly churn and her heart leap into her stomach.
Both of the men spoke, "Harbinger, it is good to see you well. The training was a little much for new recruits but it was too short. A good show none the less."
Terra simply smiled as she continued out. She couldn't stop; she needn't stop, and would not stop. She heard no one following her, but when she made it through the front of the Jorrvaskr, the heavy door did not slam. She turned to find Farkas standing there.
"I won't ask anything," Farkas said has he stridden up to Terra and pulled her into a kiss. His mouth covered hers and his tongue forced itself into her mouth. His actions showed a hunger that Terra didn't know how to answer. Out of breath he pulled away from her, "Go finish your work. I know you have other places to be… I just… I needed you for that striking moment. Watching you fight stirred the beast in me." He let her go and went back inside.
Terra watched him leave. Tears streamed slowly down her cheeks. He knew exactly how to hurt her. She took the walk as a way as his sign of giving up on her. She picked herself up and took a breath. She needed to assassinate someone extremely important and her heart was not needed for that job.
"Let him have it, I don't need it anymore" she whispered as she took her time reaching the Bannered Mare.
