(Thank you all for your patience on this, it has been far too long to wait for an update, but I am trying to get back into the rhythm so that we can get this wrapped up nicely.)
The battle in Kynesgrove had ended quicker than Terra had anticipated. Delphine had been far more competent than some of the others she had worked with across the continent.
Terra had learned Delphine's name in the mist of blood spray that had covered them after the ending of the creatures around the dragon.
The dragon had not hesitated to back down even at the end when it was evident that it would be killed and devoured. It had struck fast and hard, but at the wrong target. It had assumed that Terra would become distracted by it attacking her companion in this battle. It had made a gamble, but discovered it had a losing hand when Delphine had parried the creature's attack and struck back. Her response after the attack was cursing and shouting at the dragon.
Terra could feel a surge of fear and death emanating from the dragon as a deep craving began to cause her to tremble slightly. When she consumed these creature's souls the urges were blinding her eyes causing a more primal sense to take control all the while the emotions from the dragon's soul penetrated her mind pushing everything else out and only leaving that deep hunger that had to be fed.
The dragon met her eyes and she was now reflected in its pupils. She looked truly possessed by something else. Her blade was held in a calculated and posed manner while her other hand held a spell readied for casting just in case this being before her attempted to run. It knew its existence was wrong and now struggled to get out so that it could continue its destructive life after being renewed. It snarled and snapped at her, but while those around her didn't understand its words, she could hear the profanity and curses that it slew at her. The dragon had wanted glory in her destruction and to be hailed as great, but it had been misled by those who had brought it back. They had promised that she was weak and ill prepared. Right now before the dragon was a woman who knew her strength and in her eyes it could see that she was determined and wasn't hesitating in grasping the power that she had been given.
"I had been told you were but a child," the dragon snarled as Terra brought the sword down on it. "A babe that had no clue on the 2nd chance she had been given. Curse those who had lied and may you lead all those to downfall." The head fell before Terra and the soul glowed with a fury that she hadn't witnessed before. It pulsed with vengeance and hatred.
The glow that shone around her had now become a habit when she consumed the souls, but the overflowing of emotions from the dragons was not something one got used to. The images and feelings that flashed in her mind created a weird surge of power that was alien to her own, but maybe that is what made the dragonborn more than others, the strength to take on that flood could cause madness if one was not accustomed to it.
Delphine's mouth was agape. She looked as if she still didn't believe what she had witnessed, but wasn't going to let that stop her mission. She straightened back up and dusted herself off as she went to Terra. "So I have witnessed the true dragonborn before me," she laid a hand on Terra's shoulder, "And at the very least you can fight and I don't have to start you off with training. Let us go to the Sleeping Giant and rest so that we can continue this conversation in a safer environment. I don't know about you, but a flagon of something strong and warm food would make this situation even better."
At the Sleeping Giant Inn, the warmth and loud patrons make for an easy distraction for the two adventurers. Delphine had gone silent watching Terra, while Terra just enjoyed her third bowl of soup, but was still working on her first flagon.
"It's hard for a woman like me to trust someone who doesn't drink heavily after everything that you and I have seen," Delphine had just finished her fourth flagon and bit into a hunk of meat.
"I have learned that I am not to be trusted after drinking," Terra responded honestly. "I often get myself into sticky situations that lead to terrible misunderstanding and promises of heroism."
Delphine looked like she was pondering something and then nodded for a moment, "I am curious, but I fear that I might find out something that could lead to some disturbing dreams."
Terra chuckled as she took a swig of the flagon and shrugged, "I have to say after my own 2nd chance I decided that life is worth living, but that has led to some hairy situations because instead of being cautious I have taken some wild risks."
Delphine let out a deep and hardy laugh, "Ah haha, you might just have to share on a night that we don't have to think about more serious matters."
