Season 1 Episode 2 prt2:
(With the device still missing, Conrad is still assisting in the search. But a sudden outbreak in the town caused problems.).
DoD was on the case, meaning that Eureka law enforcement couldn't continue. Allison tried to reason but it didn't work. Conrad sat there. He felt he failed. He didn't know what on Earth to do. He was out of ideas. As he was thinking, Jack came sitting next to him. "So, you knew Jo huh?". Conrad nods. "In a way. We only knew each other for an entire tour in Iraq. We clicked easily.".
Jack sighed. "Took me a while.". Conrad nods. "Well, I saved her ass a couple times, she saved mine. Consider us lucky.". Jack chuckled at the comment. "You two weren't a thing were ye?" he asked. Conrad quirked his brow. "Oh hell no. Not by a long shot. Friends. Besides, if we were a thing, we would be breaking regulations.". Jack nods. "True. But still, you got along with her quicker then me.".
Conrad laughed. "Ah well. I saw worse.". Jack shrugged. "Not as bad as I did.". The three of them left the scene to turn in for the night, but all three of them got dizzy. Jo was the first to go unconscious, then Conrad, lastly Jack.
All three woke up in the infirmary. Jo was the first to come around when she realized what was happening. Jack was sitting upwards holding his head in his hands. Conrad came around but was a little uncomfortable. "Where are my clothes?" he asked. Allison stood at the edge of the room. "Your clothes are in processing for possible traces of radiation.". Conrad didn't like the sound of it.
"RADIATION!?" he asked. Jack spoke from his side. "Relax, this is a regular thing here in Eureka.". Conrad quirked a brow. "Very comforting." He said sarcastically. He tried to get up but as he stood on his feet, he fell forward and smashed on his face. "I am okay." He mumbled from underneath the rug covering his face.
Once he was helped up, he got comfortable and crossed his arms. Jo looked at him, which was too obvious, even Conrad's Special Forces senses weren't needed to sense it. "Something on your mind?" he asked. Jo shrugged. "You seem calm, I expected you to freak out.". Conrad shrugged again. "I seen weird. But I learnt to hide my emotions.".
Alarms wailed and red sirens started lighting up. Jack only groaned. "Awesome." He said with sarcasm dripping on every letter. Conrad didn't like the sound of that. "What is happening?" he asked. Henry then ran in again. "You guys were exposed to high levels of polonium.". Conrad groaned.
"Well, I am screwed ten fold now." He said. Henry nods. "Polonium was used in the device meant to cure AIDS, so your theory of weaponizing it was accurate.". Conrad groaned even louder. "And I thought surviving a rock slide was lucky." He said to himself. Jack kept his head in the game. "Why was polo-something used in the device?" he asked.
Henry then said: "We theorized that polonium would kill the AIDS cells and then break up in the system, it was harmless. Until it has been stolen and somehow weaponized.". Conrad got an idea. "Does it give off any fumes?" he asked. Allison was the first to act. "Get the radiation crew to scan the entire town for signs of radiation.". Henry did as said.
Within the hour, Jack, Jo and Conrad got on their feet and continued the investigation behind the DoD's back. The Governor pulled string of his own to keep them in loop. Jack temporarily deputized Conrad so he could help in the investigation.
The first place they went to was the lab where the device was stored. It was clean. No clues. Or was it? Conrad walked up to the wall and found the smallest drop of blood, invisible when not looking close. "Bingo." Was all he said. He called them over and showed his founding. Jack was impressed. "Good work, I completely missed that.". Henry used a scanner to scan the sample and got a match.
"The blood belongs to Beverly.". Everyone in the room felt a sudden tingle. Except for Conrad. "Who's Beverly?" he asked. Jack started off. "She was a psychiatrist. Who worked for a group that done things. Horrible things. Tried kidnapping a child to experiment on him.". Conrad flinched lightly. "Ah.".
So they got the thief, all they needed was the device. But the case was cold, no leads. Even Conrad was out of ideas. But not Jo. "What about the auction?" she asked. Fargo shook his head. "There was no auction, only held to throw us off the trail.". Conrad nods. "Clever. Very clever. But flawed.".
"Got something?" Allison asked. Conrad nods. "Jo, remember Najaf?" he asked. Jo nods. "Yeah, quarantine was in place of an outbreak of smallpox.". Conrad nods. "There is a radioactive outbreak, I suggest we quarantine the entire town and flush out Beverly.". Jack got the hint. "You think Beverly is still in town.".
Conrad nods. "It's obvious. Why the auction? To lure us away from the fact she is hiding in plain site.". Jo nods. "It makes sense. Why run and leave tracks? Why not stay and transport it with another decoy. A fall guy." She said. Jack nods. "Makes sense, I would pull such a stunt.". Conrad nods.
Sense Henry was the mayor, he ordered a full lockdown through the town. Everyone is told to stay in doors. In the Sherriff's Office, Jack, Jo and Conrad were waiting for the trap to fall in place. On camera thirteen, a red head woman was spotted. She looked around while holding an object covered in cloth. Jack then made a slight: "AHA! Got you now!". Jo pressed a button and a store area lowered from the roof. It was filled with guns. Conrad chuckled. "You do love your guns." Was all he said.
Jo blushed. "Well, I am a good shot.". She said and left with one of the triple barrel guns. Conrad shrugged and took his 9 mil and twirled it around his finger. "Let's catch some bad guys.". Conrad and Jo was in place. Beverly was standing in the middle of an alley. Jo was aiming at him. Conrad kept his eyes on his surroundings. But a bright blink of light caught his attention.
"Down." He said and pulled Jo down when a shot split a brick. Jo looks at him. "How did you know ne was there?" she asked. Conrad shrugged. "I saw a light in my eyes. Followed it. Old habits.". Jo nods. "Impressive. How do we take him out?" she asked. Conrad grabbed her gun and got up and fired a shot. The shooter fell backwards and Beverly was no where in sight.
"Damn it." Was all they both said.
The shooter was in autopsy. Henry was busy with his scan. "Well, this is definitely our sniper who killed our John Doe. But Beverly is still out there." Was all he said. Jack pats his friend on his shoulder. "It's gonna be okay. We'll find her, one day.".
At the local BB, Conrad was packing his bag to leave for Salem. He didn't want to leave, but did he have a choice? As he was zipping his bag shut. Jo stood at the door. "Leaving huh?" she asked disappointed. Conrad nods. "My duty's to defend the Governor.".
Jo walked up to him and hugs him. "Will we see you again?" she asked. Conrad shrugged while embracing her. "I don't know. Maybe. I plan on resigning after the next Governor election. Probably become a bank truck driver." He joked.
Jo quirked a brow. "Or just, take a job here." She said. Conrad smiles. "I just might.". Leaving in the limo he saw the Governor looking at him. "Something on your mind sir?" he asked. Sheldon then handed a file to him. Conrad looked completely confused. "What's this?". Sheldon smiled. "Your new permanent job. It's a promotion.".
Just reading the file heading made him smile.
