Fire. Surrounded by fire.
Ruby wasn't sure what happened while she was asleep, all she knew right now, was she had to run. Still being half-asleep didn't help, but as it stood, she didn't really have a choice in the matter. Groggily stumbling past the charred remains of some kind of furniture, she only narrowly missed a collapsing part of the ceiling. But then, she caught sight of something that shocked her wide awake. Blood. A trail of blood.
Ruby's mind started going into overdrive with what could have potentially happened. Was it Mom's blood? Dad's? Yang's? Oh no, what if it's Saya's..? She started hyperventilating through her panic, hastily following the red trail, all the while doing her best to not catch any of her clothes on the flames. What worried her was the fact that the stains seemed to get thicker as she went further, turning more and more of the burning floor a crimson colour... Eventually, however, the trail stopped at a pile of rubble. Ruby took a sharp inhale as she finally fully realised what she was about to do, and what could possibly happen. Taking multiple deep, shaky breaths, she attempted to lift the rubble, and to the young girl's surprise, she was actually able to lift the clump just enough to make a hole she could barely fit through, having to dash through it before it collapsed again using her Semblance, Petal Burst. Of course, as soon as she saw what was on the other side, she wished she would have just left alone and ran.
"M-mom..? Dad..?" Ruby choked out upon seeing the scene in front of her. Those... were her parents. Or at least, their corpses. Bloodied, broken- wait, was that Mom's scythe through her stomach? Obviously it was all a bit overwhelming for a 10 year old, as Ruby couldn't help but fall to her knees, hang her head low, and break down into tears, not caring about what seemed like the inferno surrounding her. But as she bawled her silver eyes out, she noticed something in the corner of them. What seemed to be the figure of a girl. "Y...Yang!" She called out as she rose and turned to face her sister's direction. It was... weird. She was there, definitely searching for something. But there was someone else with her, holding onto Saya. It was a man, what he looked like was difficult to make out with all the smoke, but he definitely had spiked up hair of some sort. Hang on, was he giving Yang a sword sheath? Didn't she already have Ember Celica? Why would he..? Questions for later, as Ruby was just overjoyed to see both her sisters safe and sound.
"Yang!" She called out, running towards the blonde-haired girl. But she stayed silent. All Ruby got as a response was a kick in the stomach from the mysterious man, who upon closer inspection, had green hair and almost golden snake Faunus eyes, sending Ruby flying back down to the ground. "Damn brat..." He growled. "The hell do you want?!" The kick had seriously winded Ruby, leaving her incapable of speaking, and struggling to get up. The man took advantage of this, and stomped her back down to the ground. "C'mon, answer me!" He yelled, stomping again. "M-my... sisters... w-what... are you...?" Ruby groaned through gritted teeth. The man scoffed, and kicked her against a wall. "Hey, Yang. Get over here." He called, causing the previously smirking Yang to break out into some sort of psychotic chuckle. "Right, right..." She said quietly, approaching Ruby with a thin smile etched onto her face. "Sorry, sis..." With this, Yang took the hilt of the sword she was holding, and skewered Ruby through the chest, causing the girl to cry out in pain. Contrary to how she thought getting stabbed would feel (and how it was described by Uncle Qrow), the wound felt cold. Icy, even. Enough for Ruby to start shivering, along with her already flowing tears. "...but this is for the best." Yang continued, yanking the sword out of her sister, and completely severing her right arm from her shoulder. Ruby fell to her knees again, unable to stand with the searing pain throughout her body. She looked to Saya, hoping she wouldn't have same twisted reaction as the other two. Fortunately, her expression was different. Unfortunately, she didn't seem to have an expression, instead being unconscious. The bruises all over her body gave a clear explanation as to why. Sighing, the man grabbed Yang by the shoulder, leading her away from the carnage of the flames. "Hey, c'mon. Much as I wanna see this bitch die too, we got shit to take care of." He said with clear annoyance in his tone. Yang didn't even resist, following him without complaint. Ruby attempted something, anything, to try and race after them, but tripped as soon as she attempted to move. That was the last thing she remembered before completely blacking out.
She should be dead. She's supposed to be dead. But somehow, she wasn't.
Ruby wasn't quite sure why she woke up. But when she did, everything felt so much calmer. Only small remainders of the flaming building still remained, most having been extinguished by the heavy, still-falling rain. She almost felt like giving up and just laying there, within that pool of her own blood, and just fade away. But she couldn't, she knew she couldn't. Something had happened to Yang, and Saya was... A-and who was that man? Ruby had too many questions and they all needed answers. Mustering up all her strength, she attempted to use Petal Burst to move, at least a little. She moved 4 inches, at the most. The exertion caused her to cough up blood, and collapse again. But a footstep grabbed her attention. Ruby's eyes shot up to look to the girl in front of her. She couldn't have been older than 16, but her outfit was certainly unique; the frilly black dress, long blond pigtails tied by ribbons resembling rabbit ears, and almost catlike umbrella made her look like some sort of vampire she might see on one of those backwards comics that Yang read sometimes. She looked down the child laying before her, her clothes stained red and black by blood and soot. Seeming to take pity, Ruby heard the girl ask a question she considered strange.
"Tell me, little girl. Do you wish to live?"
Ruby couldn't muster an answer, as everything went pitch black again.
