The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden: Naegiri Week 2021

Day Seven: Vacation

"Congratulations, Kiki, you've earned it." Makoto told his daughter as he and Kyoko sat by her bedside.

"Indeed, is there any other way you'd like to celebrate before you start your new year at Hope's Peak Academy?" Kyoko asked Kiki as she stroked the girl's hair.

"Hmmm…" Kiki hummed, contemplating the offer. "…Maybe…could we take a trip to Novoselic? We haven't been there since…since Kaito died…"

Makoto and Kyoko grimaced, the image of Kaito Momota's corpse burned in their minds before they shook it away.

"Yes…perhaps it's time we made some more happy memories over there."

Makoto nodded in agreement with his wife. "I'll give King Gundham and Queen Sonia a call tomorrow and see what we can swing. Hopefully I'll have an answer for you by tomorrow night."

Kiki nodded as her mother kissed her good night. "Good night, Kiki, sweet dreams, and congratulations."

"Thanks Mom, thanks Dad." Kiki smiled before she yawned and curled up under the covers.

As Kiki closed her eyes and faded into slumber, Makoto and Kyoko smiled and stood up. They quietly walked out, Kyoko sneaking one last proud glance at their slumbering daughter before closing the door.

"…This is King Tanaka…who dares to communicate in my sovereign domain?"

Makoto rolled his eyes and replied "Ano…Your Majesty? This is Makoto Naegi…"

"Ah, greetings, Headmaster Naegi. To what privilege do Sonia and I owe this call?"

"Actually, I wanted to ask a favor. Is she available?"

"One moment please…"

Makoto heard some unintelligible conversation on the line before a more feminine voice spoke. "Makoto, greetings! Gundham said you wanted to ask for a favor?"

"Yeah…ano…it's about Kiki…you see, she wanted to visit Novoselic as a way to celebrate getting into Hope's Peak Academy, so…"

"Say no more!" Sonia interrupted enthusiastically. "Your family are always welcome in Novoselic. Just tell us when you want to come and we'll send a private jet for you!"

"Thanks, Sonia." Makoto chuckled. "Alright, how about this coming weekend?"

"Excellent, I look forward to seeing your family again! I promise, this vacation will ensure only happy memories this time!"

"That's the idea. Alright, I'll give Kiki the good news."

"Excellent, I'll have the jet pick you up on Friday. Give Kyoko and the others our best, okay?"

"Will do. Goodbye, Sonia."

"Farewell, Makoto!"

"Thanks for watching the house for us, Maki." Makoto told Maki gratefully as they stood by the door.

"Of course. Besides, no offense, but after my last trip there…I kind of want to stay away from it."

Makoto and Kyoko grimaced sympathetically, understanding that she didn't want to be anywhere near the place that Kaito died. Eventually, Kyoko broke the silence.

"There should be plenty of food in our fridge, so feel free to use any of it in case you run low in your kitchen. Just make sure to feed walk Hogo outside once in a while so he doesn't go in the house."

Maki nodded before Kiki stomped her foot impatiently. "Guys, are we ready to go?!"

"In a minute, sweetie. Just be patient." Kyoko gently admonished, causing Kiki to pout.

Maki smiled and placed Haruki on the ground, whispering in her ear "Alright, Haruki, wanna say goodbye to Kiki before she goes on vacation?"

Haruki nodded excitedly before she waddled over to Kiki and hugged her. "Bye-bye, Kiki!"

Kiki giggled and returned the hug. "Bye, Haruki. See you when we get back."

"Alright, we won't keep you." Maki smiled as she picked up her daughter. "Have fun, everyone."

"Bye!" They called before they left the house and closed the door behind them.

"Wow, it's so beautiful!" Kiki breathed as she stepped off the plane.

"Hey Kiki, wait for us!" Makoto chuckled as he and Kyoko carried their bags.

Kiki smiled guiltily at her family as they made their way off the plane. "Sorry guys, I'm just so excited. I haven't been here since I was in elementary school!"

"Yes, I can see you're excited, just try to contain it until the king and queen get here…oh, there they are."

Makoto nodded as he followed up Kyoko's remark. "And it looks like the prince and princess came along too."

The Naegi family smiled as they saw Sonia and Gundham walking up to them. Hikari flanked her father, while Yami flanked his mother.

"Welcome once more to our homeland, everyone!" Sonia exclaimed before the Naegis bowed respectfully. "You remember Hikari and Yami, right?"

The Naegis nodded as the prince bowed and the princess curtsied. Sonia and Gundham smiled proudly at their siblings' manners.

"Why don't we get you settled in the castle before we decide what to do during your vacation?" Gundham suggested, causing their guests to nod. "Excellent, follow us to the royal carriages."

Kiki leapt excitedly out of the carriage before she petted the horse's snout affectionately. She giggled as the horse returned her affection by licking her fingers, tickling her hand.

"Ah, I see our noble steed has taken a liking to you." Kiki turned to see Gundham smiling at her. "That one doesn't trust easily; you should take pride in the fact that you've tamed her so quickly."

Kiki smiled bashfully as her parents smiled in amusement. Once the children got out of their carriages, Sonia turned to her faithful retainer Albus, who sat as the lead coach.

"Albus, will you and your assistant bring the carriages back to the stable while King Gundham and I get our guests settled?"

"Very well, your majesty." With a snap of the reins, Albus drove the carriage forward, his assistant following closely behind with the other carriage.

"Okay!" Sonia exclaimed, clapping her hands together. "Let's get you settled in your rooms, then we'll gather in the dining hall for a welcome dinner!"

"Itadakimasu!" Everyone chanted before they politely dug into their dinners.

"Oishiiii!" Kiki gushed. "Thanks so much for the dinner, Your Majesties!" Everyone else nodded in agreement as Sonia replied gratefully "It warms my heart to hear you compliment our native cooking." She glanced teasingly at her children, who pouted. "These two are unfortunately getting a little tired of Novoselic cuisine. They seem to have gotten a craving for Japanese-style food as of late."

"Indeed, they seem to have been enticed by your foreign delicacies." Gundham agreed with his wife.

But…you're Japanese… Makoto and Kyoko sweatdropped before Koto and Kiri smiled at the royal twins.

"Well, maybe you can come by Japan, sometime." Koto offered as his sister smiled.

"There's certainly no lack of Japanese food over in Tokyo."

Hikari and Yami's eyes sparkled, causing their parents to smile.

"Perhaps a vacation of our own would be in order…" Gundham mused with a smile.

"Indeed…perhaps we could even get a dog to bring overseas." Sonia suggested. "The twins have been saying how they wanted a pet of their own."

"Can we Mom?! Pleeeeaaaaasssseeeee?!" Hikari and Yami begged, showing their puppy eyes that they inherited from their mother.

Sonia giggled and told them "Eat your dinner, then we'll talk about it after the Naegis go back to Japan."

Hikari and Yami grumbled but nonetheless resumed eating their dinner. The Naegis smiled in amusement as they continued eating their own dinner.

"Ah…talk about a five-star mattress!" Makoto smiled as he laid down on the bed.

Kyoko smiled as she crawled in next to him. "You're right, it is quite comfy. It's kinda nice to have our own isolated room, away from the kids."

"Thankfully, they're old enough that we can trust them to not need us in the middle of the night." Makoto agreed.

Kyoko turned to face him before she quickly pecked his lips. "Indeed, and our sleep should be much more restful."

"…Who said anything about sleeping yet?"

Kyoko's brow furrowed as she stared at his smile, confused. "Makoto, what do you me…mmph!"

Makoto practically tackled her to the bed, lips mashed against her own as he forced his tongue inside her mouth. Kyoko moaned as her tongue danced with his and she pressed her lips against him is a surprised, passionate kiss.

Once they separated, Makoto grinned lecherously at her as his hands trialed down her sides and squeezed her hips. "Like you said, we have some alone time…let's make use of it."

If Kyoko had a response, she lost her chance to voice it once Makoto peppered her with sensual kisses. The former detective surrendered to the passion as she embraced her husband, looking forward to the night of heated passion her husband was about to subject her to.

Kyoko yawned, her eyes fluttering open as she slowly sat up. "My…what a dream…" She trailed off as she immediately covered her breasts with widened eyes.

Her gaze wandered to her husband, equally naked as he snored, still cuddled up against her. Realizing what happened, she blushed, smiling bashfully at the memories of the passionate night.

"I see…so it wasn't just a dream…that really happened…"

*Knock Knock*

"Mom?"

"J…just a moment, Kiki." Kyoko called as she frantically searched for her nightgown. Once she slipped it over her body, she walked over to the door and opened it to see her eldest daughter smiling at her.

"Good morning, Mom…" Kiki cocked her head in confusion as she asked "Are you okay, your cheeks are kinda pink…"

Kyoko shook away her blush before she assured her daughter "It's nothing, sweetie. What can I help you with?"

"Oh, I just wanted to get you and Dad to grab breakfast down in the dining hall."

"I see…alright, let me just wake up your father, then we'll shower and get dressed so we can join you."

"Okay, I'll grab Moku and the twins while you're doing that. See you in the dining hall, Mom."

Kyoko giggled as she watched Kiki leave with a spring in her step. She then turned to her still snoring husband, smiling lovingly at how peaceful he looked.

"Well, I hate to wake him up when he's like this…but he has to wake up eventually…"

"Itadakimasu!"

As they all dug in, Kiki gushed once more "This breakfast is delicious, Your Majesties!"

"We are grateful that your taste buds can recognize the quality of Novoselic's culinary arts." Gundham smiled, causing the others to smile in amusement.

"Anyway…" Sonia turned to Kiki and inquired "So, Kiki, what would you like to do today in Novoselic?"

As Kiki began to hum in contemplation, Hikari and Yami interjected "Can we hang with Koto and Kiri?!"

As everyone turned to the royal twins in surprise, Hikari exclaimed "I wanna learn all about what kinds of beasts occupy the archipelago!"

"I'd just like to know more about what its food and culture are like." Yami admitted.

Everyone else sweatdropped before Makoto decided "Well…I don't know how much help they'll be…but as long as someone supervises them, I don't see why not."

"Indeed…besides, that'll allow us to focus our attention on Kiki and Mokubo." Kyoko reasoned. "Is that alright with you two?"

Koto and Kiri nodded as the boy replied "Maybe we can learn more about Novoselic by interacting with its prince and princess."

"I guess it could be fun…" Kiri concurred. "Let's just try not to spend all our time in a library, Koto."

Koto pouted, causing the others to giggle.

"Alright, now that that's settled, what do you want to do, Kiki?"

"Hmm…" Kiki hummed once more, contemplating her father's question. "We could go to Novoland again."

"An excellent idea!" Sonia exclaimed. "Once we finish breakfast, I'll get passes for the four of you."

"Thanks, Queen Sonia!" Kiki smiled gratefully before she ate her breakfast voraciously.

"Kiki, slow down." Makoto urged his daughter. "I know you're excited, but you don't have to shove your breakfast into your mouth."

Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black, sweetie? Kyoko sweatdropped before she sighed and gave an exasperated smile.

She glanced apologetically at the royal family, causing Sonia and Gundham to smile reassuringly at her. Kyoko relaxed and continued to politely eat her breakfast with her former upperclassmen and their children.

"Alright, here we are, kids." Makoto smiled as they stepped out of the carriage and looked up at the gates to Novoland. He then turned to their coach and said gratefully "Thanks for the ride, Albus."

"My pleasure, Master Naegi." Albus tipped his hat and told them "I shall wait here for when you exit Novoland. On behalf of the royal family, I hope you enjoy our signature attraction during your vacation."

"Much appreciated, Albus." Kyoko turned to her family and asked "Well, shall we go?"

"Whee!" Makoto and Kiki screamed as they went down another dip in the roller coaster.

Meanwhile, Kyoko impressively managed to keep any exhilarated screams to herself as Mokubo clung to his elder sister in fear. At last, the roller coaster came to a stop. The guardrails retracted and their seat belts unbuckled, allowing the family to get up and wobble onto the platform in a daze.

"That…was…awesome…!" Makoto and Kiki muttered as Mokubo clung to her waist.

Meanwhile, Kyoko allowed herself to be dragged along by her husband while she recalibrated herself. Once the family had regained their center of balance, Kyoko asked "So, what would you like to do now?"

"Hmm…can we see what kinds of carnival games there are?"

"Of course, I believe they're that way."

"Then let's go!"

"Kiki, wait up!" Makoto cried as they ran after the energetic teenager.

"Alright, just lift up with your arms and swing the hammer down."

"Mom, I can totally do this by myself!" Kiki whined as she raised the mallet above her head. "Here, watch!" She urged as she swung the hammer down as hard as she could.

Kyoko watched with pride as the metal marker sped up the tower and hit the bell with a resounding ding.

"Yeah, I won!" Kiki cheered as an assistant came forward with a stuffed bunny.

"Yes, you did." Kyoko replied as Kiki traded the hammer for her prize. "Why don't we see what…"

"Yes! I'm still lucky!" The two young women turned to see Makoto grinning. As they walked over to see what the commotion was, Makoto exclaimed "Kyoko, Kiki, look!"

The two girls looked at the dart and balloon game to see that all of Makoto's balloons had been popped, netting him a prize.

"…Is darts even a game of luck?" Kiki wondered.

"Technically no, but luck plays a factor into a lot of skill-based games." Kyoko explained. "A skilled player can still lose to someone who got lucky."

Kiki nodded in acknowledgement as the assistant handed Makoto a stuffed dog that looked like Hogo. "Here you go, Moku!"

"Arigatou!" Mokubo smiled softly as he hugged the prize his father had given him.

Makoto, Kyoko, and Kiki smiled at the rare display of affection from the boy.

"You really like that dog, huh, Moku?" Kiki teased, ruffling her brother's hair and causing him to giggle.

"Alright, you two." The two children turned to the amused Kyoko. "Where would you like to go next?"

"Oh! What about the funhouse?!"

"Sure, that sounds fun!" Makoto agreed. "Alright, let's go to the funhouse!"

"Yay!" Kiki cheered as she ran off.

Makoto and Kyoko rolled their eyes as they and Mokubo followed the excited Kiki.

"Whoa, and I thought the roller coaster made me dizzy…" Kiki muttered as they left the funhouse. "But wow…that funhouse was something else."

"Indeed, though you and the others seemed to have a lot of fun with the different mirrors." Kyoko reminded her.

"I just wish the twins would have stopped insulting each other in front of the mirrors." Makoto sighed, glaring at Koto and Kiri who merely smiled guiltily under their father's gaze. At last he broke his gaze, allowing the twins to sigh in relief as he asked "So Kiki, did you have fun at Novoland?"

"Yeah, I sure did, Dad!" Kiki giggled as they approached the gates.

"Ah, Master Naegi." Albus tipped his hat to greet the family. "Did you and your family enjoy your time at Novoland?"

Makoto nodded, confirming "We did, thank you. We and the kids had a great time."

"It warms my hear to hear you say that, Master Naegi. Shall we return to the castle?"

"Indeed, we should check up on how Koto and Kiri are behaving." Kyoko advised.

"Very well, Master Naegi, once you're settled in the carriage, just let me know and we can begin our route back to the castle."

"Alright then, into the carriage." Makoto instructed before his two children boarded the carriage.

Makoto smiled as he helped Kyoko onto the carriage. They sat down across from their children before Kyoko called "Okay Albus, we're ready."

Albus nodded as he whipped the reigns, causing the horse to trot forward. Kiki placed her stuffed bunny next to her as Mokubo snuggled his toy dog. Makoto and Kyoko smiled at their children as she leaned her head against Makoto's shoulder. Makoto smiled lovingly at his wife as he wrapped an arm around her back and stroked her hair. The former detective allowed herself to quietly purr in relaxation as they waited for the carriage to arrive at the palace.

"Itadakimasu!" Everyone chanted before they dug into their dinner.

"So Kiki…" Sonia began. "Albus says you enjoyed Novoland?"

"Yeah, it was a lot of fun, Queen Sonia!"

"It heats my heart to hear you say that!" Sonia exclaimed, causing the others to sweatdrop at her incorrect phrase.

"So, Koto, Kiri, did you have fun with the prince and princess?" Makoto asked, causing them to nod.

"Yeah, Queen Sonia read some books about Novoselic to us in the library!" Koto informed them.

"And King Gundham put on an animal show in the gardens!" Kiri exclaimed.

"They were a perfect, polite audience!" Sonia informed their parents. "Though we did have to settle an argument at first about seating arrangements."

"That…doesn't surprise me…" Makoto chuckled, scratching his cheek as the twins smiled guiltily.

"Your youngest offspring took great interest in the animals of this domain." Gundham smirked as he continued "She has a bright future ahead of her as a beast tamer."

Maybe she should avoid that career… Both parents contemplated before Sonia smiled at Kiki.

"So, Kiki, what will you do on your vacation tomorrow?"

"Hmm…I'll sleep on it, if that's okay, Queen Sonia."

"Of course! Novoselic has many wonders to offer, and we will happily show you whatever ones time allows!"

The others nodded in agreement before they went back to eating their dinner. Makoto and Kyoko smiled proudly at their daughter, looking forward to continuing to celebrate her success with this vacation.

Kiki, you earned it!
