Woooo first story here this site is confusing as hell! This is technically Vin/Zero but could probably be viewed as just friends, doesn't really matter. Hope you enjoy because I love these two more than words can describe
He was her best friend, she wouldn't trade him for the world, but on some days-
"God you're an idiot."
She wonders what in the world she did to deserve the torment of having this moron by her side.
"Well maybe if you hadn't run in there on your own, I wouldn't have had to come in and rescue you!"
"I didn't need rescued, Vin."
"Sure, sure, tell that to Macbeth who was this close to figuring out your identity."
"Well maybe if you kept watch on her instead of the mirror we wouldn't be in this position in the first place."
"Hey can't help that this perfect face catches even my own eye!"
She just snorted at that, smirking at his offended look that followed.
They were currently sitting in her room, it having been the nearest one as they ran from their good ol' mortal enemy's office, with Zero herself perched on her bed and Vin lounging on the chair at her desk. Newton and Trixie had still been in headquarters the last they heard, though Zero was pretty sure she'd heard them mention something about going to bed.
Then again that was during the mad dash across the school so who really knew.
A laugh to her right brought her back from her thoughts, Vin having moved from a normal sitting position to just lounging like a cat, limbs and head hanging off the chair as he stared up at the ceiling.
"What's so funny now."
Another laugh. "Trix is gonna kill us for this one."
Leaning against the wall she huffed out a laugh of her own, shaking her head at the mental image of the inevitable lecture they were sure to get come morning. "Yeah, she definitely is."
"Which one do you think it'll be this time? About maturity? How we're 'better than Macbeth and so shouldn't be using her weapons against her'? Or or! Maybe there'll be a completely new one, with Newton joining in this time around."
"No no no, don't forget the one about how dangerous Macbeth is and that we 'need to be more careful', as if I couldn't fold her in half if I wanted!"
They were both wheezing now, Vin almost completely off the chair and, with a loud thump, he rolled to the ground.
To no one's surprise, his surprised yelp only caused her to laugh harder.
"Yeah yeah, laugh it up, Zee," he grumbled, though his glare was pretty pathetic in her opinion. Kinda hard to feel threatened when he looks like an offended puppy.
After a while their laughter died down, replaced by a comfortable silence. Vin had gradually moved from the floor up to her bed, sitting cross legged by her side as they both caught their breath again.
It was… nice.
Silence was usually unnerving, where she would just need to sit in anxiety waiting for the other shoe to drop, where all she could hear was her own heart pounding with ragged breaths, before the chaos all started again outside the door.
Silence with Vin was different though. There wasn't that feeling of bubbling anxiety, it was a time where they could just exist together, no words needed.
God he'd made her soft. Dammit.
In all honesty she couldn't really bring herself to mind though. The sharp contrast of here and her homelife was jarring, but it wasn't an unwelcome change. The bar wasn't exactly high in all fairness, but hey Pinkerton cleared it by a mile.
Vin cleared it by a mile.
Speaking of, it was way too late for him to still be there. Students weren't meant to be in each other's rooms past 9pm, and currently it was-
"Vin, dude, you gotta get to your own room, it's like 2am and if Mr Soper finds you in here he'll kill us both."
Nothing.
She nudged him.
Still nothing.
"Vin, stop pretending to sleep."
Again, nothing.
"God why are you like this."
She was met with no response by her sleeping friend, who just snored lightly when she nudged him again.
Rude.
"Alright, well you still can't stay here."
She was well aware she was only really talking to herself by this point, the blond currently dead to the world, but it was 2 in the morning and she was more focused on figuring out how to get him out without waking him up.
As 'charming' as Vin was when he was awake, a tired Vin was a very different matter, and she really couldn't be bothered with more than one lecture in the morning.
With a sigh, she knew there was only one real option, even if it meant she might die on the spot if someone happened to be in the hallway at the same time.
"Okay sleeping beauty, you leave me no choice."
He'd better be glad she was strong, because he was not the lightest person in the school to carry.
With her best friend in her arms she shuffled towards the door, fumbling with the handle in an attempt to open the door without waking him. After a solid four times the damn thing opened and, with a brief glance out to make sure she was alone, she stepped out into the dormitory hallway.
Never had she been so thankful that the boys' dorms were a straight walk on the other side of the staircase.
Cautious not to jostle him too much, she made her way through the hall, avoiding the creaking parts of the floor by sheer muscle memory and ensuring to keep her breathing quiet, just in case any other students were awake and heard her. She'd rather not go through the embarrassment of trying to explain this, thanks.
Because the universe liked to inconvenience her at every opportunity, both her and Vin's rooms were at the very end of each corridor, which increased the risk of them being caught by a stupid amount. Thankfully, it decided to spare her this time and, with a sigh of relief, she made it to his door without issue.
After round two of fighting with the door handle whilst holding this idiot, she managed to get in, kicking whatever items were on the floor out of her way before finally, finally, setting him down in his own damn bed.
"You owe me so much," she muttered, halfheartedly glaring down at his completely unaware face, before sighing in defeat and tugging the blanket over him. "Dork."
She ignored how her heart felt when he smiled at that, glancing back one last time at his sleeping form to make sure that yes, he was asleep, before silently slipping out of the room and back down the hall to her own dorm.
Yeah, Vin was a moron. A moron who would try to save her in missions and would make her laugh so hard her stomach hurt and would fall asleep in her room.
But dammit he was her moron. He was her best friend, and she wouldn't change a single thing about him.
