Relative Blindness
by Sanguine Ageha
-:-
"Why do blind people exist in this world?"
Kaoru paused from sipping his tea and turned his head to the person seated across of him.
Hikaru's countenance spelled distraction: it was obvious that he had his attention focused somewhere.
At first glance, the older twin seemed bored. But judging from his tone of voice when he spoke a while ago, he was unconsciously expressing some other emotions clearly akin to jealousy and mild annoyance.
The younger twin averted his eyes to the direction Hikaru was looking at. Tamaki and Haruhi were visible to the eye even if they were standing a few feet away from them. The former was explaining something in his usual flowery speech with the theatrical gestures to match. The latter was trying her best to be patient with the Host Club King's incessant babbling, even if she looked thoroughly irritated already.
He now discovered the basis of the given question and finally understood everything, situation and all.
"I don't think you're in any position to ask that question." Kaoru blurted out.
Hikaru glimpsed at his brother. He felt something twitch inside of him. The weight of his twin's words slowly sank in, and they were heavy with truth. And if there was something that he didn't like, it was to lose.
"I'm not as dense as her, if that's what you mean." Hikaru retorted defensively.
Kaoru stayed silent, sparing his twin an interested glance as he resumed drinking his tea. A smirk was tempting to form on his lips. It was typical of Hikaru to let his childish streak get the best of him, making him unaware of his own blindness to the truth. All he had to do was snap out of his immaturity and he would notice that the answer was already mere inches from his face.
They continued to watch the animated pair. Hikaru's irritation grew each second and he snorted at all the "fatherly" touches Tamaki kept on giving.
Kaoru settled the cup on the saucer. "Hikaru, the definition of blindness is relative."
Tamaki casually draped his arm around Haruhi's shoulders as if to conclude all the things he said. Then, he flashed his trademark smile that would have made any girl swoon.
"Similar to you, Haruhi likes someone, but isn't fully aware of it yet."
The brunette said something that clearly upset the blonde, resulting for him to retreat to his sulking corner.
"And you find that fact about her somewhat unacceptable because the person she likes isn't you."

I have pondered on this piece for days since its completion, and I conclude that this belongs to my more bizarre works. I possess a screwed up biological clock and the writer in me refused to let me sleep because the fic demanded to be written and finished ahora mismo; hence, the "strangeness". So if you plan on throwing a tortuous interrogation, please don't. I love the little bit of sanity I have left and I don't want to lose it. T-T
On another note, this was supposed to be a hundred-word drabble only, but I don't know how it manifested itself into something bigger. Things seem to move in mysterious ways sometimes, I guess. I just pray that someone, in some possible way, found sense in this piece (even if it's little, since that's better than nothing). The only thing that's visibly sensible here is the connection of the title to the fic (well, to me, at least U.U).
So before this ends up too long for my liking, comments and concrit are much appreciated. Thank you!
