Adrien handed Nino back his phone before sitting back on the couch with Kagami allowing himself to relax "You must have really made him mad hanging up on him like that" Nino observed he was right of course but Adrien didn't care anymore, if his father couldn't handle a minor annoyance like that then Adrien didn't want to go back.
He noticed Kagami shift uncomfortably in her seat, she seemed lost in thought and he could tell she was nervous and to be honest so was he, he had gotten used to masking it with humour. "Have you thought about what you're going to tell your mother yet?" Adrien's voice snapped her out of the daze.
"The Truth I suppose, I'll just tell her she needs to trust me more and give me more freedom to do what I want to do. I shouldn't need to be perfect at everything first try to be good enough for her! She can't control every aspect of my life!" Kagami stopped herself before she started ranting. "Sorry about that."
Nino didn't know Kagami super well, he only ever hung out with her when he was with Marinette or Adrien, really he wasn't even sure she considered him a fiend but he couldn't help but feel bad, he'd been focused on how bad Adrien's Dad was he hadn't stopped to consider how awful Tomoe was.
"No it's okay Kagami you're right to be frustrated." Adrien was interrupted by Nino yawning; he hadn't even realised how late it was. Given everything at school and them running from their parents he hadn't spared it much thought but it was almost midnight "Nino don't force yourself to stay awake just for us we'll be okay really."
"Well if you're sure, just don't stay up too long if you're really gonna try to reason with those two you'll need to be wide awake." Nino concluded before heading back into his room leaving the pair alone.
"Hey Adrien, Are you serious about leaving if our parents won't listen?" Kagami was fairly sure he wasn't but she needed to know for sure. "I mean Chat Noir is needed here so we can't really leave
"Yeah I wouldn't wanna leave but like I said to Nino it'd only be for a little while, and as Astro Chat I can get to Paris fast enough to help with any Akumas if anything happens while I'm gone, though I agree it isn't exactly ideal." Adrien was relieved Plagg was asleep, no doubt he'd object to that plan, he hadn't made any attempt to hide the fact he disliked the power ups. "Hopefully it won't come to that" Adrien paused, noticing Kagami was barely listening, struggling to keep herself awake.
"We can worry about that tomorrow I guess. We should try and get some sleep" Adrien went to get up only to feel Kagami grabbing his sleeve, preventing him from getting very far.
Kagami leaned upwards, looping her arms around his neck before pulling him down for a kiss. This wasn't the first time they had kissed, of course but something was different this time. The kisses they had shared in the past scarcely lasted a second; this was a much slower pace. After a few moments Kagami pulled away, opening her eyes and looking off to the side. "I wanted to make the first move this time." She mumbled under her breath though Adrien barely heard it.
The kiss had been slow but sweet and filled with love and for the moment words seemed to have failed him. Noticing her embarrassment Adrien put one arm around her and pulled her into a hug and after just a moment she leaned into the embrace and before long they were asleep in each other's arms.
Gabriel arrived first with Nathalie in tow, followed by Tomoe not long after, Adrien and Kagami were yet to arrive but it was evident both parents didn't want to be here. "Of course Adrien would do this in public." The gardens were a popular spot with tourists so Gabriel would need to watch his temper, if he lost it in public like this he'd have a PR nightmare on his hands.
"Yes well once this is over I hope you keep a closer eye on your son, he's clearly been a bad influence on Kagami, I knew letting her go to that school was a mistake." Gabriel was about to argue but was interrupted by his phone ringing.
"I'm a little surprised you showed up, of course you brought Nathalie seeing as you're pretty much useless without her." Adrien mocked over the phone his cocky tone sounding closer to his Chat Noir persona than the Adrien his father knew. "Meet us by the lake and please don't try anything, if you do you won't see us again." Adrien hung up as soon as he was done talking before handing Kagami her phone.
When they arrived at the lakeside Adrien produced a pair of tickets from his pocket. "These are two train tickets. Our train leaves in two hours so that gives you two hours to convince us not to go."
"You can't be serious Kagami. Running away? How Childish." Tomoe ridiculed in a patronising tone, Kagami looked away for a moment to avoid looking at her mother. Adrien gently took a hold of her hand which seemed to reassure her.
"So what if it's Childish?" Kagami questioned under her breath before looking back at her mother. "In case you've somehow forgotten Mother I am 14. but I haven't been able to act like a child a day in my life!" Kagami snapped causing Tomoe to momentarily lose her composure
"I'm trying to prepare you for the real world you can-" Tomoe began in a calm tone only to be interrupted by Kagami.
"It's cruel! You drag me from place to place for fencing, that you decided I had to do, never staying in one place long enough for me to make proper friends and then when you finally do settle in one place you won't let me, I don't even like fencing Mother you decided that I had to, You're trying to control every aspect of my life!" Kagami lectured which left her mother silent. It wasn't entirely true Kagami liked fencing as a hobby but if it was up to her Mother it'd be her entire life.
"Oh and I suppose you'd rather waste time with your drawings?" Tomoe scoffed, "You're just wasting your time on a frivolous endeavour, you aren't good enough to make a living out of it." sneered Tomoe with a cold edge to her tone
"With respect Miss Tsurugi," Adrien Began calmly." You are Blind! There is absolutely no way you can know that, you just tell her she isn't good enough to break her spirit, you don't want her to have a hobby, you just want Kagami to be an obedient Robot who can't do anything unless it's approved by you! She can't come to you if she needs anything because you trivialise all of her problems as her being weak" Adrien Exploded. Part of him felt bad shouting at a blind woman like this but Tomoe deserved it.
"Adrien it is beyond inappropriate for you to derive her parenting style. How Tomoe choses to raise her daughter is none of your concern" Gabriel snapped at Adrien hoping his aggressive tone would make him back down, though it was clear Adrien wasn't going to.
"None of my business? So what? I should let Tomoe treat Kagami like an object because it doesn't affect me? Guess I shouldn't be surprised you're defending her given how you treat me." Adrien retaliated in a bitter tone. "I Told you not to come unless you were willing to listen but you're just disregarding everything we say, lets just go Kagami."
As the pair turned to leave, Nathalie spoke up, catching Adriens attention. "Adrien please wait, I'm sure you can work something out." Adrien still couldn't quite bring himself to yell at Nathalie, she'd been a better parent to him than Gabriel had for the past year
"We won't work anything out, this is not a negotiation it's an ultimatum they will agree to our terms or we will leave, it's that simple." Kagami stated her authoritative tone, making it evident that there was no point arguing with them.
Gabriel looked as if he was about to say something but decided against it, Tomoe seemed to understand as well if they said the wrong thing they'd lose them possibly forever, Adrien and Kagami had left them with no options and a time limit, their planning would almost be impressive if it wasn't so infuriating. "Well you haven't given us many options, what are your demands?"
Hi sorry for not updating for a while. I've just been feeling kinda burned, I'm struggling to think of how this could end, would it be out of character for Gabriel to agree to what they want? I don't know, I'd love a second opinion though.
