Stupidity Does Not Earn You Heaven

Stars shining like diamonds in the sky. Quite perfect for a romantic feeling wasn't it? Boy and girl walking hand in hand through a less sandy part of the beach. Even more romantic, huh?
But then Ash had said something completely irrelevant and Dawn had simply hit him lightly in the arm because of it.
They soon reached the pier and Ash made Dawn take off her heels as he took off his own shoes. So there they were, sitting down in the edge, just wading their feet in the cold water.
"What if we get bitten by something?" Dawn asked.
"All you will see on this side of the beach are cute little Corsolas and often some Staryu as well." Ash replied. "They're completely harmless."
"Corsolas? Ah man, I would have loved to catch one."
"It would get along great with Piplup." Ash said in agreement.
"Just because they're water types?" Dawn asked.
"It mostly depends on the trainer." Ash stated. "But knowing you, they'd likely end up fighting a lot." He said teasingly.
Dawn puffed her cheeks. "What did you say huh? I don't think I heard you!" She said in a defensive voice.
Ash raised his hands. "Sheesh calm down it was just a joke."
But Dawn wouldn't hear of it. She stood up and pushed him off the edge.
"Ha! Take that." She said with her arms crossed.
Ash went down below and came up sputtering water and shaking his hair. "Damn this water is freezing."
She almost felt bad for him. Keyword being almost. She crossed her legs and peeked from a safe distance.
Who knew what he could do now?
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"The water is cold, I'm shivering and I think something is coming my way." Ash couldn't help but reply. "I'm just peachy."
Dawn glanced even further to see what it was and laughed. "It's just a Corsola."
Ash sighed in relief. "Well, you wanted to catch a Corsola right? Now's your chance."
He had to be joking.
*I though he was mad at me?*
"Weren't you mad at me?"
Ash sighed and began to swim in circles. "I'm going to freeze to death while I'm on a date with a woman who I thought liked me but decided to toss me in the water instead." He teased. "Might as well see a battle before I die." He added dramatically.
Dawn couldn't help but want to roll her eyes. "You're overreacting." She said.
Ash stopped swimming and glanced up to her. "Am I really overreacting when the water is so cold that I'm shivering?"
Dawn shook her head as she began to look through her purse and took out a pokeball. "I'm glad I brought my Pokemon with me."
"You're my savior!" Ash said, raising his arms happily.
"Yeah, yeah. Save that for when you're out of the water." She said as she tossed the pokeball up in the air. "Come on out Togekiss!"
Togekiss appeared out of its pokeball, elegantly flapping her wings making a grand entrance. She glanced down to Ash and laughed.
"Okay I get it. My situation is funny and you can't help but laugh."
Dawn giggled. Ash looked kind of cute when he was upset.
She glanced Togekiss's way and motioned for her to fly and pick Ash out the water. She did so bringing him close to where Dawn was.
Dawn squeaked as Ash ran towards her but she just ran away causing Ash to have no option but tackle her to the ground.
"Nope you're not getting away that easily. You kind of owe me you know that right?"
His eyes and hers got locked in each other's gaze and her breath got almost taken away by the intensity he was looking at her. She blushed brightly.
Meanwhle, Togekiss stared confusedly at her trainer and Ash, chirping as if to make her presence known again.
At the noise, Dawn pulled away from Ash and stood up.
"I can't believe I have been sabotaged by a Pokémon." Ash could only utter.
Dawn blushed even more, finally noticing that if Togekiss had not interrupted, she and Ash would have kissed. With a saddened look, she called Togekiss back to her pokeball.
A cold gust of air passed by the pier and she shivered.
Ash glanced her way and stood up as well, then began walking closer.
"Are you cold?" He asked.
"Hmmm good question." She said and she wanted to roll her eyes at him. "Let's see... I'm in a beach that's nearly freezing in temperature and you're asking if I'm cold."
"Okay sheesh don't get snappy." Ash said. "I thought you grew up in Snowpoint?"
"I did," Dawn said. "But I traveled around so I'm now used to warmer weather."
Finally being within reach, Ash wrapped his arms around her trying to keep her warm. "Is that better?"
Dawn nodded. "Yeah. Thanks." She said, trying to keep her heart speed from spiking up.
They stayed like that for a while.
But then Ash too started shivering. He was the one who was wet, after all.
"Shouldn't we go home so you could change?" Dawn asked in a concerned voice.
"I'm fine. I have some spare ones in my car." Ash stated. "As long as you promise not to look, I can change into them." He teased yet again.
Dawn hit his arm.
"Let's take a walk." Ash said when he was finally in dry clothes. "I really need to talk to you either way so it's a good opportunity."
"You do know those are scary words to listen to, right?" Dawn couldn't help but say.
"Hey I'm trying my best okay?" Ash said watching Dawn bite her lips. "Just didn't want you to freak out."
"Freak out?" Dawn asked. "Why would I freak out?"
Ash helped Dawn into his spare jacket then held her hand and started walking.
"I know your life hasn't exactly been the best ever since what happened with Paul..." He began to say. "Yet you moved forward. Brianna is a wonderful child and the way you raised her proves it. You have May, Tracey, Melody, Misty and Gary supporting you here in Kanto, as well as your other friends in Sinnoh. Zoey and Kenny, right?"
Dawn nodded as she walked alongside Ash. His hand felt warm on hers. "They were my support every step of the way and always there when I needed them." She agreed.
Ash took a deep breath. "You have all those wonderful people supporting you, and then there is me... Someone who'd go to hell and back just to see you and Brianna smile," he glanced away from her. "But I'm new at this kind of feeling."
Dawn could only stare. Her heart couldn't take it anymore and that's when she knew that she, in less than three months; Had fallen in an irreversible love with the guy beside her. She knew that he liked Brianna just as much, possibly more than everyone else but she had no clue he felt this strongly.
Ash glanced towards her, his eyes focused entirely on her face. He then continued speaking. "But I promise that if you would have me... -" He choked up.
Dawn momentarily forgot they were in the beach and tackled him. She then stared at him and got as close as she could. All he felt was her arms wrapping around his neck and her lips on his.
If this is a dream, no one please wake me up
After they broke apart, Dawn could only rest her head in his shoulder. "I do want you in my life, and I am sure that Brianna does as well but I have to remind you that we are a package deal. If we purse this, just know that Brianna is my top priority."
Ash rested his head on top of hers as well. "I know, and I don't want that to change." He stated. "I have never left Brianna out either and I don't plan to. Whatever this is, you and Brianna are both my top priority."
A smile crept up to Dawn's face.
"You and her have become my top priority as well."
"People say I'm quite dense... so just so we're clear," Ash stated, "*this* means we feel the same way right?"
Dawn bursted out laughing. This was typical Ash behavior. "It means that if you would have me, I'm accepting that we have something going on."
He then pressed his lips to hers in a soft kiss. "To us." He mumbled.
"To us." Dawn mumbled back.
Afterwards, they stayed there in complete silence, enjoying what was now officially the start of them.
"ACHOO!"
"Let's go home, Romeo."
