Chapter 2: Hostility and Helpfulness! The Brightening Encounters!
Lucy's POV
I slowly opened my eyes to see some tall trees standing over me, lightly feeling a breeze blow by while some dark green leaves gently fell down from the brown tree branches, and I proceeded to rub my eyes with my hands. I let out a soft yawn while feeling very well-rested, thinking that I must have taken a long nap for the thin orange rays of the sunset to shine down from the sky, but sitting up to see where I was sleeping caused my little smile to be replaced by a look of curiosity as the feeling of confusion entered my eyes. I had been sleeping in what appeared to be a forest, since there was no dark grass in my apartment, but how did I get here?
I turned around with the expectation of seeing Natsu or Gray, but I felt surprised to merely see a path that led deeper into the forest. It didn't seem like my friends from Fairy Tail would go deep into the forest or even pick flowers at this forest's entrance, since we only took the job of trying to defeat a thief, so I had to go find them. As I started to get back on my feet, memories of the battle started to quickly appear in my mind. I remembered how that green-haired thief named Kotomi Takeuchi overwhelmed our team with her destructive Wind Magic, those powerful winds tearing through our spells and making our ideas explode in our faces, but I wondered if Erza or Natsu got back up to somehow take Kotomi down.
Erza must've currently been leading the search party to find me right now, as Kotomi's winds probably sent me into the forest instead of keeping me on the street where we all fought that thief, but I started to softly smile again. Erza's guidebook from earlier claimed how the town of Tokiwa was near a forest, and turning back around to see a green tiled street only made me giggle happily. As I ran straight out of the forest and into the town, I quickly made it back to the street where Team Natsu fought against Kotomi. All of the destruction was still here, along with the burning tree now looking charred while the flames on it were very small. However, I started to look puzzled as something felt wrong. None of my friends were here, and the desired sound of Natsu loudly calling my name from a different area of the town was nonexistent. Where could they be?
I quickly ran down the street to see the broken windows and debris, shards of glass spread across the ground, but my running speed slowed down from seeing a familiar face. The brown-haired girl who had been injured earlier when she warned Gray and I about Kotomi was now bandaged up and standing in front of what appeared to be a damaged clothing store, clothes and hats torn apart from the blasts while some sunglasses even had cracks in them. The girl stood still like a firm statue as I stood behind her, looking at all the damage before I noticed how her hands were okay, but the sight of her starting to cry loudly while getting on her knees made me feel so sad for her.
"Who's there? Do you not see that we're closed?!" The woman asked me in a saddened manner while she cried, before gently turning to face me and widening her eyes in pure shock at me from my hand kindly touching her shoulder.
"I'm really sorry about your store, and-" I tried to explain to her in a nice way while looking concerned, right before I covered my mouth in shock at hearing a voice that definitely wasn't my own.
The girl exclaimed as she aggressively pushed my right hand away with her left hand, turning around for me to see her glare of immense anger, "Sorry?! You're fucking sorry?! You.. you killed my friends, stole from businesses, destroyed my store, and ruined most of the town! That blonde girl and her friends may have let you escape, you evil bitch, but we'll kill you for what you've done to us and our town!"
I asked her with an expression of sheer confusion on my face while seeing the rage in her dark green eyes, especially stunned by that last sentence, "What are you talking about, lady? I'm one of those wizards who tried to get the Emerald Star back from-"
As I tried to avert her deadly glare and take some steps towards the clothing store's gold-framed rectangular mirror that was visible through the broken window, I stopped moving while feeling an extreme amount of disbelief from what I had seen. Kotomi Takeuchi was standing there in the reflection of the mirror, her mouth slowly opening in disbelief and shock weirdly at the same time I looked very shocked, and I pointed at that mirror while looking at the shop owner to show her that Kotomi must've used her Wind Magic to somehow merge with the mirror. She must've pretended to be dead, which probably fooled my teammates into thinking that she could be left alone while they put the Emerald Star back in the museum, and I confidently smiled at the shopkeeper as I would gladly finish what my teammates started.
I placed my hands into my pockets while getting ready to pull out a gold key, only to strangely feel something that resembled a bag of money, and the angry shopkeeper started to make a dark green aura surround her body. I sternly looked up at the sight of Kotomi in the mirror, feeling irritated at how she mimicked my facial expression like a mime that was wanting to joke around, but the moment that she perfectly matched a punch I threw in the mirror's direction was when I started to drop my jaw in horror. There was no reflection of my natural blonde hair and brown eyes in the mirror, but the reflection showed Kotomi's light green hair and orange eyes. I wasn't watching Kotomi copy me at all, and touching my face with my hands before glancing down at my clothes made that mirror image be even more nightmarish. This was reality not being anywhere close to a good dream for me, since that thieving woman must've activated a spell of Wind Magic to make herself steal everything that gave me happiness, and she switched me into a situation of pure horror. I was now Kotomi, and my body started to shake in fear at how she was probably now me. The intense shock of this, along with patting my pockets to not feel my keys at all, caused me to let out a loud and terrified scream.
I closed my eyes for a moment, thinking that this had to be a nightmare, but I opened my eyes mere seconds later to see the shopkeeper aggressively aim her hands at me. I quickly ran away from her, since talking things out would not work, and I got to see some sharp-edged leaves go past me. They were in a dark green color, larger and faster than the other shopkeeper's projectiles, but they were just as sharp to my body. I felt one of the leaves slice open the palm of my right hand, which felt painful enough for me to scream loudly, but I couldn't stop running. Fear made its way into my eyes as I briefly turned around to see her coming after me, along with some of Tokiwa's other angry citizens who were nearby, and not hearing my teammates calling my name made this situation even scarier. They not only left town with a thieving impostor of me, but Kotomi tricked them into leaving me here to die for her crimes. I could only keep running, and my eyes were filled with the feeling of panic from how I caught a glimpse of that woman's leaves slicing through large pieces of rubble. My eyes started to get clouded from how I began to cry at the fact that I was quite scared, and a few tears hit the ground like a tiny drizzle of raindrops falling from the sky. The sharp leaves weren't the only thing that made me scared, though.
"You can't get away from any of us, no matter how far you try to run!" A man's voice shouted from behind me with hostility.
A girl who sounded like she was around my age added in an angry tone, sounding like she was ready to fight, "She killed several of our friends and harmed many of us without being merciful, so we don't need to restrain ourselves from killing her!"
I continued to run while looking very anxious, not wanting these people to end my life, and I heard the soft sound of someone exhaling air. My eyes slightly widened in shock from having the assumption that an attack would hit me behind, but I saw small shadows appear on the ground as I ran through some of the craters from earlier. Glancing up at the sky for a moment allowed me to see five pink cherry blossom petals lightly floating in the air, but they weren't as cute as they seemed to be. Running fast allowed me to evade a small explosion that occurred after the first petal touched the ground, but that didn't make the feeling of fear go away.
The other petals made explosions occur, sending pieces of debris and rubble from the ground past me at high speeds. I started to run in a zigzag pattern, quickly moving between the left and right sides of the street in an attempt to throw off the mob of aggressive mages who wanted me to feel their immense wrath, but that only made the girl casting the spell with petals be even angrier to where I had to swiftly evade more of them. I wouldn't be able to run and avoid the mob's attacks forever, no matter how much I tried to get away. These people were intent on killing me in brutal ways for malicious acts that weren't my fault, making me cry more as I imagined their spells having vicious levels of power from all their anger, and I felt like my last words had to be expressed openly while also silently wishing for a friend to be nearby.
"Somebody, please help me! I'm really a Fairy Tail wizard! I'm scared, and I don't want to die here!" I yelled in a panicked manner, fear and anxiety all over my face while tears streamed down from my eyes.
The woman who was leading the chase replied to my words with vengeance in her voice, the rage blinding even the slightest thought of rationally thinking about my words, "You're not getting out of Tokiwa alive, you evil mage! Don't think that crying will earn you any forgiveness here, so stop with your pathetic lies! We're not gonna let you continue to steal from us and harm people anymore, so just fucking die already!"
A feminine voice responded in a snarky tone, sounding like it came from the end of the street, "If someone's continuing to steal from your town multiple times, then you've already proven that you suck at being a mage. Leave this situation to the more fashionably and magically skilled wizards, you moron."
I refused to stop running while dodging a pink orb of energy that a girl fired from her hand, and I could see shadows on the ground that were accompanied by pink light from a loud blast. I turned my head to the right side, and I saw on the corner of my right eye how the pink blast appeared to be in an average size. Upon hearing the shopkeeper and Tokiwa Town's other citizens scream in pain, that only heightened my anxiety and fear as I tried to wipe the tears from my eyes. I continued to run down the street, but I looked back for a moment to see that the blast sent my pursuers flying up into the sky while they seemed to be immobilized from a pink aura that started to surround their bodies. I watched the townspeople begin to float in midair right before they were sent crashing into the ground quite harshly, almost like they were affected by some kind of psychic power, and I kept running while starting to fully face forward as my eyes took notice of how the strange girl's fringe hairstyle included heavy bangs that skimmed her pink eyelashes. I also noticed how that girl's pink hair was straight and somewhat long to where it reached the middle of her back, along with how some sunglasses with red frames were sitting at the top of her forehead, and her eyes were red like cherries. She wore a pink long-sleeved vest top to compliment how her simple pink skirt went well with her black knee-high boots that had bubblegum pink horizontal lines near the top parts of them.
Even though she had a fashionable appearance, I couldn't die at the hands of this girl. My heart continued to beat quite fast while I viewed myself to be in extreme danger, and some quick-thinking only left me with one idea that wouldn't involve using any magic. I simply summoned all of my willpower to increase my running speed, running somewhat faster as my eyes looked towards the path that led to the forest. Hiding out in the forest wouldn't be a permanent thing, but a good wizard always realized when they had to run and hide.
As I could see the path to the forest being quite close, I soon realized that I would have to turn in a different direction to have a straight dash towards the darkening forest. However, my eyes were not as focused as my feet. I kept running, ignoring how the shopkeeper groaned in pain, and I didn't want to be dead before saying goodbye to my friends. Even if I had to run all the way back to Magnolia under the setting orange sun and try to prove that Kotomi stole my body, I would do it after finding a place to hide. My legs continued to run while the path was in sight, but I soon rolled towards it after a certain girl was only on the corner of the right eye.
"No..! I was.. so close.." I managed to state aloud in a timid manner through all the fear, panting after rolling towards the forest and being mere inches away from the grass.
The girl who I knocked down replied with a frown on her face as she lightly winced in pain from the fall, her sunglasses landing on the ground to be near me, "Well, it looks like I got to experience the once in a lifetime opportunity where an alleged criminal who yells for help decides to run directly into a wizard."
I responded quickly while slowly standing up, shaking as I was feeling timid for myself and also concerned for her about what just happened, "I'm so very sorry! I didn't mean to crash into you, but I just have to get back to Fairy Tail right now! I have no idea why I'm now in Kotomi's body and I'm honestly very afraid, so please don't kill me!"
The pink-haired mage retorted in a snarky manner, frowning as she got up off the ground, "Yeah, I was totally intending to kill you when I came here through that forest for the sale on jackets that this town's fashion store was supposed to have today. You're genuinely afraid, but I genuinely have no clue as to what you're talking about."
I gave this woman a very scared look, really hoping that she was being sarcastic, and she continued to frown at me while her hands weirdly went above her eyes. She patted her forehead, before turning around and seeming like she was looking for something important, but I curiously shifted my attention to her pair of sunglasses. I bent down for a moment to pick them up with my uninjured hand, seeing the frames to be cherry red like some expensive ones that I once saw in Sorcerer Magazine, but I also saw red drips fall to the ground. I held the sunglasses in my hand that didn't have the cut, as I didn't want blood on this girl's sunglasses, and I simply looked worried at how the cut nearly reached both ends of my hand.
The girl with a snarky attitude turned around to see that I had her sunglasses in my possession, which caused her to nicely cheer as she looked quite pleased that I found them for her, and she softly took the sunglasses from my hand before putting them back on her forehead. This interesting stranger smiled at me, before the cut on my hand got her attention, and she gasped at how that shopkeeper's sharp leaf made my hand have a nasty wound. I attempted to touch it with my fingers, only to feel searing pain as I winced while closing my eyes, but I opened my eyes for a moment to see the mage use one of her fists to push my fingers up and get them away from the wound.
She shot out a thin pink beam of energy from her mouth, aiming it down at my hand, and a pink aura engulfed my hand for a few seconds. As the pink aura went away, little white clouds of smoke sizzled up from my hand. The wound on my hand healed quickly while it was healed to where the wound seemed as if it never existed, and I glanced at this girl's cherry red eyes. I started to slightly smile at how she helped me out with one of my problems, but I began to run away as I felt that hiding from the citizens of Tokiwa was still necessary.
The female wizard told me while I ran, seeming like she almost forgot something, "I'm Risa Ryusei, and my guild master's handling a job in the forest! If you see him, please tell him I'll be there soon!"
I replied nicely to her as I ran, waving goodbye with my healed hand, "My name is Lucy Heartfilia! If I see your master, I'll tell him you're on your way. Oh, and thanks for healing my hand!"
Sting's POV
I stood against a tree in the middle of this forest, folding my arms as I sighed with a bit of frustration at how I felt like Sabertooth's newest member was going to get herself into some kind of trouble, and I could hear all the explosions that were going on in the nearby town of Tokiwa. Risa had not only asked me to help her complete this job of catching two cute yellow butterflies for a museum curator who would reward her with seventy-thousand jewels, but she had the nerve to tell me how a fashion magazine informed her of how the nearest town had a sale on jackets today.
Just because Risa had money from the previous job of pulling out all the weeds in someone's garden, I didn't understand why she couldn't just wait for the client in Tokiwa Town to give her the money before she went on a shopping spree. I had only turned around earlier for a moment to get a glimpse of a blast that was in a pink color, which made me wonder if that came from Risa or another mage, so I became curious about if she actually ran into some serious trouble at the store. The newbie had been in Sabertooth for about a week now, but was Risa really going to make the second-best guild in Fiore possibly be associated with shoplifting or starting a fight with another girl over a jacket?
Going to where the forest led into Tokiwa Town seemed like a good idea right now, since things seemed to majorly calm down, and I picked up the small container that was resting on the dark green grass. Keeping the butterflies in the square container with a gold lid on it was my second priority, as I did have the main priority of making sure that the rookie safely got back to the town of Kogane with the guy who was truly the best dragon slayer in Fiore, and I didn't want Risa to tell Yukino or Rogue how I chose to let her get into any chaos. She just happened to run into Tokiwa Town right before I heard someone shouting for help while someone else yelled about an evil mage, but we both probably sensed the weak magical power that was coming from some spells.
I personally had no interest in taking down weak opponents, but I started to smile in a confident manner from thinking that Risa was probably taking down a criminal with her magic. That would officially be her first battle as a wizard of Sabertooth, and I decided to start running towards the town while wanting to see if Risa could make the battle last long for it to seem exciting. As I ran at high speeds and went past some bushes and rows of trees, though, I got to see a girl with light green hair run in my direction and dive down to the ground for her to hide behind a dark green bush. That made my blue eyes have some curiosity while I felt interested to see why she would be hiding, so witnessing Risa's fight and delivering the butterflies were things that would have to be done a little later.
"What are you doing? Trying to find the worst hiding spot for a sneak attack?" I asked her with a curious facial expression while walking towards the bush, slightly thinking that she was a criminal who couldn't take me by surprise.
The girl responded with fear in her voice, quickly standing up with quite an anxious look on her face while making her hands form a shield in front of her shirt to show how she looked startled by my presence, "Don't come any closer! Stay away from me, please! I... I almost lost my life in that town, and I'm genuinely scared! Kotomi stole my body, my identity, my magic, my friends, and I don't want any of the townspeople to kill me!"
I explained to her in a calm tone while staying where I stood, seeing how she seemed shaken and uncomfortable, "Don't worry. I'm not even from Tokiwa, and there's no reason for me to attack you. It sucks that someone stole that from you."
I immediately asked her with a shocked look in my eyes, widening them in complete disbelief at what she just said, "Wait, did you seriously just say that your body was stolen?!"
The girl closed her eyes and gently nodded, tears beginning to fall from her eyes as she went back to hiding behind the bush. I softly walked towards this woman while hearing her start to lightly cry about her situation, and I couldn't just leave her crying behind a bush. Not only would it be bad to leave her here in this forest of bugs and green plants that started to darken from the orange sky signaling that the evening hours were occurring before they'd be followed by nightfall, but this girl's hiding spot and her crying wouldn't make it difficult for any of the townspeople to make sure that she got killed.
As I took more steps towards the bush, I got a glimpse of how this girl was on her hands and knees while she continued to cry. She may have been treated like a criminal by the residents of Tokiwa Town, but the mild crying started to become louder sobbing. I watched her body tremble from the sadness and the stress while she opened her eyes to show that their redness from crying couldn't hide the genuine fear and anxiety that was definitely in them. This unhappy and afraid girl thought that she just needed her body back right now, but I frowned at her while believing that she needed something just as comforting.
I went around to her side of the bush, before placing the container with the butterflies on the grass, and I squatted down near the saddened woman. I made one of my hands gently rub her hair, before I proceeded to softly rub the back of her shirt, and I felt that she needed some comfort after going through a situation that greatly shocked her. As I kept rubbing her back and hearing how her loud sobs started lessening to where she was soon crying softly, I realized how this person was being so genuine towards me and anxious to where she would probably only trust me if I returned that genuineness. That made me smile confidently, as I considered myself to be the best at starting conversations with new people.
"I'm Sting Eucliffe, a white dragon slayer, and I'm the guild master of Sabertooth. I'm also the best dragon slayer in Fiore, lady. You should try to remember that, but kindly give me a name to remember." I told her in a kind tone while smiling, as I felt glad to introduce myself.
She replied to me in a timid tone, looking up at me with nervousness on her face as her orange eyes started to stare into my blue ones, "My... My name is Lucy Heartfilia. I'm a Celestial Spirit Wizard from Fairy Tail. Sting, it's... nice to meet you."
Lucy further said while starting to talk in a kind tone, starting to make her lips form a small smile from possibly recalling something, "Risa will be on her way to the forest soon, Sting, and she spent some time saving me from a group of hostile people. I thought she'd kill me, but I think we left on good terms after I gave back her sunglasses."
As she started to look puzzled from noticing my shocked expression, I simply let my mind take in all the facts. This girl was really Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail? She was the girl who Minerva tortured on the fourth day of the Grand Magic Games, and she also lost against that weird lady named Flare Corona from Raven Tail on the first day of the tournament. I felt very surprised that she was in this situation, especially since Lucy appeared to be one of Natsu's teammates, and his team must've been very stupid or brutally beaten down to let Lucy's body get stolen while her voice also sounded very different from when she was fighting Minerva.
Even though Lucy had to run away from the people of Tokiwa Town, I felt glad enough to smile about how Risa didn't mistake her for an enemy who had to be killed. Although, I blinked my eyes for a moment while hoping that Risa wasn't defeated by anyone. She wouldn't be stupid enough to sacrifice her life for something that wasn't part of our job, but I did start to frown sternly at the possible idea of Risa taking her own sweet time with trying to find cute clothes. If she really did save Lucy's life from a group of people, then Risa must've frightened the wizards chasing Lucy to where they willingly followed her orders of bringing her some different jackets from the clothing store and also comically putting back all the jackets that she wouldn't buy.
Since I could only wait for the chance to give Risa the container with the butterflies, I slowly stood up straight while looking down at Lucy. I gently stuck out my hand to her, and the moment where she lightly touched my hand allowed me to helped her get off the ground. As Lucy began to stand up, I started to think about how she couldn't remain in the forest. The only smart option was to take her to the Sabertooth guild, since my Communications Lacrima Crystal was there right now, and I would hope that Natsu's team took this report seriously. After all, I never liked to waste anyone's time. As I prepared to look at the path that was straight ahead from the bush and a nice way to get out of this forest, my nose caught the familiar smell of cherry perfume while I could hear a familiar person's footsteps.
"Master, I'm back! I've got the jacket that didn't even cost me a single jewel, and that woman firing the leaves told me how she believed it was totally for me after my attack beat down six wizards at once! When I went over to them and nicely just asked where the clothing store could be found, that hostile lady groaned and only gave me three minutes to be in the remaining parts of her store with everything free. Patience is definitely her worst quality." Risa happily shouted while running up to me, causing me to turn around with a somewhat irritated look on my face from hearing her last sentence.
I responded to Risa with a nice smile that was mixed with my look of annoyance and twitching eyes while picking up the insect container, putting it in her free hand as my eyes took a brief look at the winter jacket that was in a regular shade of green, "Maybe she could sense that sales in fashion stores should always be happening for a limited time only, Risa! Preferably, for someone who loves patience enough to make her job go as slow as the butterflies!"
"You'd be walking around slowly, too, if you saw all the damage that criminal named Kotomi did to Tokiwa Town. Master, at least we didn't stay around until nightfall to miss finding the girl who got completely robbed of everything by that mage. When our friends in Sabertooth hear about how this job went well for us, they'll probably be so happy and agree that I have to help Lucy Heartfilia no longer be robbed of a good sense of style while we see how her guild responds to the big news." Risa shot back at me with a concerned look on her face, before her cherry red eyes shifted to Lucy while she smiled a bit.
Lucy spoke for me with a nice smile on her face, as she looked at the butterflies, "Risa, your job isn't done yet. Unless you plan on keeping the butterflies as pets for yourself and feeding them, you should go get your money from that client."
Risa simply nodded, before swiftly running off, and I folded my arms while smiling at Lucy. It felt nice for me to not have to rudely tell Risa to hurry up with finishing the job, especially since Lucy seemed to playfully throw Risa's snarky attitude right back at her with a bit of motivation for putting the client's request before personal needs, and it would probably be good to go back to Sabertooth with a new friend. I noticed how Lucy began to turn to me, eyeing my blonde hair and how my cream-colored shirt complimented my blue vest that went well with my black pants, and she seemed to nicely giggle at my black shoes that had yellow designs that looked like fangs were near the soles of my shoes.
I started to raise an eyebrow while frowning at the impossibility that something was off my attire, since I dressed great every single day, and I kept looking at Lucy while hoping that she wouldn't criticize me for what I liked to wear. After all, it would make me look stupid if I somehow had bad fashion sense and scolded Risa for wasting our time on getting a stupid jacket. I simply scoffed at Lucy, before turning around to start walking back to the Sabertooth guild, and I really hoped that she wouldn't boast to us about how Fairy Tail was Fiore's best guild.
If Lucy's friends in Fairy Tail believed her and decided to take her back to Magnolia, then I'd be happy. As I walked on the grassy path to get out of the forest, though, I felt some happiness from how I helped Lucy calm down earlier. She seemed so anxious while the tears from crying nearly stained her face, and I wasn't just going to leave her stuck on the dangerous parts of the whole issue without any direction towards something that could hopefully be good for her. I kept walking through the forest at my own relaxed pace, happy to provide a direction for Lucy, but I started to hear her sigh in an impatient manner as the sun kept setting. The orange glow of the evening sunset wouldn't last forever, despite how Kogane Town wasn't extremely far from Tokiwa, but I turned around to see Lucy glance up at the sky before her gaze shifted to the path leading into Tokiwa. As I heard Risa pant softly from arriving back here quickly to catch up with us, I felt very glad that she didn't waste anymore of my time.
"Sorry if I took too long, Master! I ran back here as fast as possible from delivering the bugs to the museum curator, but I did take a bit of time trying to neatly fold my cute new jacket into the bag of jewels. The green fabric feels so comfy to where I can wear it in cold weather, too!" Risa explained with a happy smile on her face and delight in those cherry red eyes, as she was holding a medium-sized brown bag of jewels in one hand while using her other hand's fingers to rub the nice jacket that she bought.
Lucy told Risa in a kind manner while I turned around to see her grab the jacket and make the lover of fashion look stunned, before running past me with another playful smile on her face, "Risa. As a fellow wizard, allow me to show you that your passion for fashion needs some good motivation for it to help you instead of hindering the team. Completing jobs goes really well with trying to be as focused as other mages!"
Risa shouted to Lucy with the feeling of surprise in her voice from having that jacket be taken away, before quickly running after her like an excited girl chasing after her favorite fashion designer while I turned back around and ran fast as I laughed at my new friend's idea, "Hey, that's my jacket! You'll get chased all the way to Kogane Town for it, Lucy Heartfilia, and you and Sting should know I'm not being sarcastic! You're definitely making this evening be interesting!"
How was Chapter 2? Feel free to tell me your thoughts on it. Due to Lucy discovering she was in Kotomi's body and that her team was gone, I decided to let the chapter and all the feelings about this situation be explained from the POVs of her and Sting. I also decided to make Lucy literally run into one of my new OCs before she met Sting, and Risa sure is a snarky mage with a love for fashion. I'll update soon. :)
