Chapter 12: Shady Sunset Park Secrets! Dirty Discoveries! Scheming & Sweet Motivations!
The following evening at sunset, Risa returned to the predominantly orange town of Kuchiba with Sting and Lucy standing beside her. Risa and the other wizards from Sabertooth got to see how the entrance gate was open while it wasn't guarded, which meant that the gatekeeper from yesterday was now somewhere else, and no one supervising over who got past the gate meant that Risa could just walk into Kuchiba Town with her friends. They casually walked on the dirt path while starting to smile from how they reached the autumn-colored trees that bordered the path and symbolized, but Risa and her teammates started to hastily run on to the nearest street.
After getting to the street and standing on its orange tiles, Risa was quick to walk away from her friends to head towards the amusement park while Lucy and Sting respectively searched for Shinchi and headed to the Bell Tower. Risa smiled confidently at how her plan seemed to be going smoothly as she quickly ran towards the park with the bright rays of the sunset shining down towards her from the orange evening sky, but she quickly found herself having to hide behind the tree that was next to the one that Lucy burnt down to ashes with her flames yesterday.
The trees helped Risa hide from the brown-haired gatekeeper who wore a plain brown tuxedo with mocha brown dress pants and dark brown dress shoes to match, and she peeked out from behind a tree to see him standing in front of an orange lattice gate that was wooden. There was also a rectangular brown sign placed next to him that had some words on it, possibly informing the tourists and locals about how the park was closed right now, but seeing him gently place one hand on top of the sign only made Risa begin to narrow her cherry red eyes in a very suspicious manner.
She had definitely heard from an employee that Shinichi only entered the park at sunset, so he already had to be in there. After all, the town most likely wouldn't close the park to keep out a wealthy guild master who seemed to be capable of doing whatever he wanted. Risa desired to get into the amusement park, too, and she decided to distract the guard with a spell. She stretched out her arms while building up magical power to where a pink aura started to surround her body, and Risa placed her right hand behind her left hand. Her hands were close together to where the pink sphere that formed in her left hand was immediately absorbing all of the energy from the pink sphere that appeared in her other hand, and that sphere started to be bordered by three rings of psychic energy. They formed a triangle around the pink sphere, before Risa turned to her left and used the Stellar Psi spell to make her left hand aggressively push against the air. The spell was starting to be propelled off of Risa's hand while Stellar Psi increased its energy, and Risa aimed her hand at an area behind the amusement park's gate at the last second. Risa watched her attack create three large pink blasts that occurred consecutively, before the spell's first aftereffect harshly pulled her several feet towards the blasts at very high speeds to where she quickly got over the gate, and the explosive power came with another added effect of using psychic energy to strongly force the gatekeeper to be down flat on the ground. This was almost like the opposite of Risa's weakest spell that levitated enemies in the air, and she rolled towards the blasts right as they faded away to obscure herself in large pink clouds of smoke. As she decided to get up and quietly run through the smokescreen, the gatekeeper got up with a startled facial expression from not expecting that to happen.
"What in the world was that?! If any of you Kimono Girls in the dance theater are arguing again, can you try to settle your problems somewhere else?!" The gatekeeper asked aloud with an annoyed look on his face, thinking that the girls were having another dispute on what they needed to do about a troubling issue.
Lucy loudly replied from near the other end of the street after hearing the explosion, sounding as miffed as possible to cover for Risa, "Stay out of this! Our fight has nothing to do with you, so don't even try to get in our way!"
The gatekeeper responded with a scared facial expression, before running off to presumably hide in one of the shops or teahouses, "You sound very mad, so I'll let you two get all that anger out! Bye!"
Risa peeked out from behind a plain orange circular platform that weirdly had seven large clam cups in different colors of the rainbow on it while this ride weirdly smelled like the oil that people would dig in the ground for, and Risa started to see a dark brown substance leaking out of the clam cups. She chose to get on the pedestal to briefly open up the pink one, only to look astonished from seeing how thick and brown goop filled up the ride, and Risa hastily closed it back. She got off the pedestal and hid behind a nearby tree, swiftly avoiding a seemingly klutzy orange-haired girl who came from a cavernous route on the train tracks behind Risa, and this mage clumsily dropped a large brown oil barrel near the clam cups before putting it on the platform. Risa resisted the urge to gasp in shock from seeing this place be like an oil field, but she was more perplexed from seeing the goop.
She watched the klutzy girl's hands become engulfed with Earth Magic's orange aura as she picked up the red clam cup and poured its goop into a large hole that was at the top of the oil barrel, and the girl who wore an orange T-shirt with dirty orange jeans simply made a flat stone emerge from her right hand. She put the stone on the platform, before emptying out the orange, yellow, and green cups for all of the goop to nearly reach the hole. The mage placed the stone in the hole, fitting perfectly before she infused more magic into it for the stone to temporarily and tightly seal the contents of the barrel, and she picked it up to walk back into the route of the train tracks that resembled a cave.
Risa started to look curious as she wondered if these mages were digging for oil here, since they appeared to be wielding Earth Magic, and Lucy was definitely right about the amusement park being very strange. Risa quickly ran towards the roller coaster, before needing to hide behind an orange wooden concession stand where bottles had to be knocked down for people to win prizes, and she looked straight ahead to see three orange-haired mages working alongside two brown-haired mages to extract the brown goop from the pirate ships that were upside-down right now. They merely punctured holes into the rides with their fists and heavy stomps, extracting the goop for it to fall into barrels that stood below this ride, and Risa's eyes widened in an appalled manner from seeing this place not be as safe as it was during the daytime or nighttime. Risa carefully kept trying to get closer to the roller coaster, and she stopped for a moment from noticing its name in the center of the large ride while the letters were placed in the center of the design that resembled an evening sun.
"Kuchiba Yuuma Sunset Park." Risa softly read to herself with a surprised facial expression, as she found the name to be quite interesting.
Risa added in a snarky manner with a calm look of realization on her face, realizing the name's meaning wasn't typical for a reason, "Kuchiba Yuuma Sunset Park is a pretty clever way to give this park a less suspicious name, Shinichi, but it wasn't clever enough to fool me. Next time, only welcome fools to Vermilion Evening Daze Sunset Park."
She swiftly ran by the pirate ships of the amusement park while sending magical power down to her feet for the purpose of becoming too fast for anyone to really see her, and Risa got to enter a vendor's strangely large booth that sold chocolate in the front half of the booth with the brown back door of the booth accidentally being unlocked. Risa looked out the square glass window in this room that appeared to be an inventory area for chocolate desserts stacked on top of each other with some of them stacked on boxes, but peeking out the window made Risa see something more shocking than sweet.
The workers in this park poured brown goop down the slopes of the roller coaster for it all to land in the barrels, even having someone infuse their Earth Magic into the highest point of the loop and sit there for the roller coaster's tracks to start turning dark orange and seemingly rusty as oil gushed out from it to fill the barrels that stood on the roller coaster, and people were even scooping up the strange oil with their barrels. As the roller coaster started to creak loudly, one of the mages gently placed his hands against it with an orange aura surrounding them. In a few seconds, the roller coaster became brown again while the aura quickly engulfed it. The roller coaster seemed stronger again and pleasant for customers, almost like it was now more durable with magic infused into it, but Risa could only look horrified at what she was seeing.
She quickly left that back room to observe the roller coaster, before her eyes shifted over to the ride with the airplanes, and seeing mages take Earth Magic from them for the rides to become dark brown with rust all over them while brown oil fell straight down into the holes that were at the bottoms of those airplanes like they were waterfalls at the ends of disgusting rivers that were only leading down to a stream of brown oil. As Risa watched the goop fall into the barrels, she slowly glanced over at the Ferris Wheel to see its vermilion carriages being filled with several large brown chunks of the earth as they were suspiciously still being operated. Every carriage that reached ground level got filled up with chunks of the ground by a male mage with pastel orange hair, before a girl with dark brown hair touched the pieces of earth with an orange aura engulfing her hands, and Risa widened her eyes in shock from seeing all of those chunks of the ground melt down quickly to where the carriages were filled to the top with nasty brown oil. Risa watched the female wizard easily open each carriage when it reached ground level to fill six nearby barrels with all of the oil that quickly flowed out of the carriages, and seeing the male mage send Earth Magic into the Ferris Wheel that started to rust made Risa perceive this amusement park to not have much amusement as she kept looking shocked at the park's evening activities.
"These people aren't digging for oil at sunset! They're making it themselves, filling up so many barrels, and they close the park at sunset to not let anyone find out how their artificial oil and Earth Magic are the only things that keep the amusement park's rides from collapsing!" Risa thought to herself while looking very surprised, before running and hiding behind another concession stand as the train started to appear on the tracks.
Risa started to clench her fists and narrow her eyes in a determined manner, as she thought about the ramifications of Shinichi making all this oil be produced and collected at sunset, "With those rides reeking of that brown oil and possibly having oil still be in them, fixing the rides with energy from Earth Magic each time wouldn't prevent deaths if these rides got started up with even a few small puddles of oil being on the seats."
The sheer possibility of the rides being active with any oil on them for explosions to likely occur later on made Risa be extremely determined to fight against Shinichi, and seeing some people start to put their oil barrels into the nine train cars made Risa feel like she had to follow it. The pink-haired girl watched the train hastily go in an unusual path around the park, only going around to the rides that had oil extracted from them instead of its usual job of giving large tours of the amusement park, and Risa watched some workers in the train cars seal the barrels with stones from Earth Magic like how that girl had done earlier. As the trained collected several oil barrels, Risa decided to collect more info on the dirty and shady business that went on in this amusement park around sunset.
Risa used her high speed to run to one of the tunnels that the train seemed like it would enter, and she simply hid behind some thick green bushes that were in between two large concession stands. Risa gently peeked up from behind the bushes to see the train enter that tunnel, prompting her to hastily run in there before one of the staff members would get in front of the tunnel to stand guard, and Risa smartly hid behind three brown oil barrels that were on the sand after slightly moving them closer to conceal her from an enemy's view. A small gap between two oil barrels allowed Risa to see Shinichi's mages getting the oil barrels out of the train cars. They all walked to the end of the small tunnel, and Risa quietly moved a barrel aside to just follow them. Her footsteps touched the sand without making much noise, and Risa smiled a bit from seeing an opportunity to hide in between two rows of old barrels as the brown steam vent above her head hissed to let out some hot steam.
She glanced up from her hiding place to see that the workers walked into what appeared to be a boiler room, as there was heat and the end of this tunnel with fire appearing to give it some extra light during the sunset, and Risa briefly crept away from her hiding place for a better view of the situation. She chose to stay right behind the orange wooden doorway while seeing the clumsy girl from earlier smile in a confident manner from briefly setting the barrel down to create several sharp stones in her hands, and she threw several of them into the large boiler's furnace that stood against a brown industrial wall. She had to throw them, since the brown rocky ground was separated from the boiler's area of rocky ground by a pool of bubbling brown oil, but the mage only got five stones in the boiler while the sixth stone fell into the oil. That was still enough to satisfy Shinichi, who emerged from another orange doorway that would take people from the boiler room to the port where ships could dock, and Risa caught sight of something that resembled an orange cargo ship. It gently rested against Kuchiba Town's brown wooden dock, before stretching out a rectangular platform for people to walk on, and turning back around to look at the orange ship in the sunset only made Shinichi smirk arrogantly as his loyal mages started to put all of the barrels on to the ship.
"That's right, you slackers! Keep getting the barrels into the boiler room as quickly as possible, and we'll keep selling all this oil to the highest bidders! Also, anyone who's going on that boat with the oil barrels better remember to check any offshore oil rigs who have chumps that want to compete with Vermilion Sunset's oil rigging business! We'll smash through yesterday's record of getting 900,000 jewels, people!" Shinichi exclaimed with an extremely confident look on his face, before clapping his hands to applaud them for possibly getting him more money.
The klutzy female mage asked him with a curious facial expression as she finished putting her barrel on the ship, "Master Shinichi, why do the rides in our amusement park run on oil and Earth Magic instead of electricity?"
Shinichi explained sternly while beginning to frown, sighing at how new workers here asked him about this secret again, "We convert Earth Magic into our own type of oil that the boiler's pipes and steam vents send into the ground and rock walls of Kuchiba. The oil in the ground gets the underground gears of all the amusement park's machines running while the Earth Magic infused with it makes the rides always function superbly with the bonus of also looking like they're always new for dumb customers to give us all their cash. We can only remove the oil and Earth Magic from the rides for a few seconds to extract all that oil and Earth Magic, or taking anymore time makes the rides turn back to being rusty pieces of crap that will fall apart. That amusement park is not only fun, but that seemingly big business covers up our actual huge business. Also, in case you're wondering, we cover up the train tracks with sand to keep attention off of the train's secret path and off of the ground near the tracks being softer at sunset. We keep the ground hard every night and day, before softening it in the evening to get hard or muddy chunks of earth out to burn them, and all the money coming in makes me feel like the strongest guild master who will keep shaking the ground in Fiore with my Earth Magic. When I shake the ground to demonstrate my power and get money to get women to shake their butts for me in bed, I'm happy."
Shinichi showed off his strength by simply punching the somewhat softened ground, breaking it apart with several cracks forming to make pieces of the ground rise up, and he ignored how one of the chunks of earth went flying towards the tunnel's doorway. Risa quietly picked up the chunk of the ground that had brown oil heavily dripping from it, and she hastily ran from the tunnel while her spell was starting to wear off. Risa held the chunk of earth tightly, only wincing with tears starting to be in her eyes from the hot oil burning her hand, and she would have to heal her hand later after sharing this news about the amusement park with her friends. Risa's speed and stealth allowed her to quickly sneak back over the park's entrance, but her loud cheering from outside the park reached Shinichi's ears.
He turned his head for a moment while a curious smile started to be on his face, thinking that the gatekeeper was groping one of the Kimono Girls, but Shinichi put his hands in the pockets of his pants. He simply looked at the broken ground with delight starting to form in his eyes, feeling glad about how he was continuing to get very wealthy, and all that Shinichi needed was more power for him to be capable of smashing down any guild in Fiore. From his perspective, all this money still wasn't going to be enough for him to get some satisfaction.
Despite how jewels could keep people from being poor, money didn't always allow people to have a serious amount of control over a town. Not without a nice title, anyway. Shinichi Keikoku, the guild master of Vermilion Sunset, began to smirk in a cocky manner at how getting that secret treasure in the ruins would help him monopolize all the oil in Fiore with a serious amount of power to where all the buyers would be coming to the dark guild of Vermilion Sunset to deliver all their money from unknowingly buying magically-made oil that would eventually explode more viciously than a normal oil explosion after he presumably drained all the money from every single highest buyer. That would give him more riches while he would be an almost unbeatable guild master, which was just as favorable as taking most of the money from stolen jobs. In fact, Shinichi clenched his fists tight with strength and ambition as he hoped that all this power and greed would help him be better than a guild master who got on his bad side in the year X785.
-Shinichi's Flashback-
Shinichi was aggressively punched in the face by a woman with wavy purple hair, and he fell to the ground. The female leader of the guild who simply wore a purple strapless dress over her pink T-shirt and pink miniskirt glared at Shinichi in a displeased manner, refusing to let him back inside of the guild known as Violet Succubus, and she folded her arms while sternness was in her violet eyes. Shinichi wore an orange blazer over his black T-shirt with orange pants to match, the orange aura engulfing his hands to soften the ground for his fall only made the woman angrier.
She walked towards Shinichi and aggressively slapped him in the face six times, which was punishment for how he purposely blew up the town's offshore oil rig with his Earth Magic, and the mistress of Violet Succubus growled in anger from seeing that the three mages who went with him were all dead. Shinichi merely scoffed in an uncaring manner, since splitting the money with them would've just continued to leave him without much cash, and they were never even genuinely friends with him. Honestly, he thought they served their purpose by simply capturing the outlaw who fled to the offshore oil rig.
Since the outlaw was dead, Shinichi thought that the client would give him all the money. However, seeing the oil rig to be destroyed with so much brown oil spilling out into the ocean made everyone else in Mocha Town be quite miffed. Some people such as the guild master wondered how they would relax on the beach or go swimming without getting oil all over their bodies, and the heat from spells of Fire Magic definitely set the entire sea on fire right now to where it was red-orange as a way of trying to burn out all that oil in the water.
Shinichi didn't care at all about the results of that job, since the guild mistress already scolded him for illegally taking an S-Class job of seducing a female crime boss in Mocha Town's red light district where sexual situations took place, and he wanted to just go into the guild to relieve his annoyed mood with some alcohol. However, getting himself off of the ground only caused the guild mistress to angrily glare at Shinichi. This was his third time breaking the rules in Violet Succubus, and not killing comrades was a rule that was as strict as not the rule of lower mages taking S-Class jobs to satisfy their motives.
"You are officially and permanently kicked out of Violet Succubus, Shinichi Keikoku! If you come back here tomorrow or any other time, then I swear that you shall be a trespasser who will be struck on sight without mercy." The guild mistress sternly told him, as she started to give Shinichi a fierce glare.
Shinichi replied with an angry look of refusal on his face, "You can't control me, you bitch! You know, I'm glad that stupid oil rig is gone because I'll have an amusement park and a bigger business someday to where I won't have to work for a disgraceful guild master like you. After all, you stepping down from your position just to participate shows how you're a complete moron who needs to kept on her leash like a dog. Unlike you listening to others' enforced suggestions, I don't listen to trashy opinions that don't have my influence in them at all."
"I should kill you right now for talking to me like that!" The guild master exclaimed with an angry facial expression, as a grey aura engulfed her body.
Shinichi took several steps back as the older woman charged up some magical power into her mouth, and he fiercely slammed both of hands against the ground. They were infused with Earth Magic while he sent the power of his spell into the ground, and he watched the earth start to violently shake around the guild mistress. The ground began to crack, before an orange blast occurred around her, and the leader of Violet Succubus was sent flying high into the air while chunks of the earth flying upward showed Shinichi's lack of restraint.
He jumped up into the air to harshly punch some chunks of earth towards her, watching the orange explosions occur in midair, and Shinichi went through the smoke to brutally kick his guild master in her abdomen. She nearly coughed up blood while trying to resist the urge to scream, and Shinichi dealt five fierce punches to her face. The guild master fell down to the ground, creating a cloud of dust after she fell, but Shinichi didn't care that she was now bruised quite badly from his attacks. In fact, he was just getting started.
Shinichi watched a large chunk of the ground fall several feet away from him, which prompted Shinichi to loudly slam his hands together while aiming at that piece of the earth, and focusing magical power into this next spell would cause quite a surprise. In a few seconds, that large piece of the ground broke apart to become a pile of brown sand. The sand lunged at the guild master while pushing itself down on her chest, the pressure being quite immense, and she screamed in agonizing pain from how the sand would probably crush her.
"Shinchi, please stop!" She managed to yell, before the pain made her scream again.
The earth-manipulating mage replied with a dark facial expression, smiling in pure pleasure as he walked towards the guild master, "I won't stop until I have everything. In fact, ending your life wouldn't be enough for me. I'll probably start my own guild while stealing some jobs, and I'll need something like a fun amusement park to hide another business where my Earth Magic can thrive. Unlike you, I see that greed, power, and unfairness are the only ways to make yourself be at the top levels of power in Fiore."
"Shinichi..." The guild master simply whispered in a disapproving tone, before passing out.
He felt curious from hearing her say his name, which prompted Shinichi to cease with that pressured spell of sand, and he aggressively picked up the guild master by her hair. Shinichi slapped her face a few times, hoping to wake her up for her to admit defeat to him, but all that Shinichi could do right now was frown in pure disgust. Despite the fact that he managed to defeat the guild master, Shinichi wasn't getting a submissive reaction from her. That only made his eyes be narrowed in anger, and he threw her down to the ground as if she was trash.
Shinichi glared at her while officially deciding that he would go create his own guild after committing a few crimes in Fiore, such as making explosions from his Earth Magic destroy a jewelry store for as many gems as possible to be in his possession for selling them later, and having so much money would most likely allow him to do all the things that he desired to do. Of course, he wouldn't be able to reach his expected accomplishments without training hard to increase the power of his magic. That wouldn't just strengthen Shinichi's spells, but having more power would allow him to manipulate people who were weaker than him.
He would be glad to persuade them to let him do certain things, such as taking their money for them to barely have any, and Shinichi would even manipulate the women who joined his guild by using encouraging words that cleverly concealed his manipulation or by using force to hurt them until they were submissive to him in every way. After all, having people obey him would allow Shinichi to just get power and wealth for himself while some of those people could just be disposable pawns who worked in his amusement park and ensured absolute satisfaction for him on a daily basis. As Shinichi walked away from the purple building that served as a bar and a guild, he started to evilly smirk from recalling how the town of Kuchiba had several surrounding towns around it while they all seemed to have some different shops selling ancient jewelry from traditions. Shinichi would gladly steal from those stores and sell those gems in Kuchiba, since the prices for selling jewelry there was said to be as magnificent as a vermilion sunset. That little phrase seemed attractive to Shinichi while he left the town and would never come back, so he hoped that his greed and determination to get power would also help him form a guild where he could accept women who bowed down to him during the schemes that he would be carrying out.

Risa thought to herself with an angered facial expression, as she hid next to Lucy and tightly clenched the chunk of earth in her hand, "Damn you, Shinichi... You disgusting, manipulative, greedy guild master!"
As Risa waited for Shinichi to walk further down the street and reach Vermilion Sunset before the she and Lucy could go to the Bell Tower to meet Sting, Lucy narrowed her eyes as she watched Nozomi get off of the bed to put back on her kimono. Nozomi quickly put it on, before looking at a photo in a gold frame that hung on her orange wall, and Nozomi casually stepped to the side. She didn't block the photo from the sight of Lucy and Risa, who both got to see how the photo featured a somewhat younger version of Nozomi wearing a dark blue kimono with brown sandals to match, and she was standing in front of the dance theater with an older woman who had long brown hair that flowed down to her hips while she wore a dark green kimono with purple sandals to match. Lucy tried to calm herself a bit while seeing Nozomi nicely smile at the photo, but Lucy saw how that soft smile shifted to a regretful frown from how Nozomi seemed like some past thoughts from the year X789 that related to her future actions were on her mind.
-Nozomi's Flashback-
Nozomi stood near the staircase that led up to the rooftop of the Bell Tower, looking sad as she felt upset at herself for making her sickly mother come all the way up here with her for a private conversation, and today's concert rehearsal at the Kuchiba Dance Theater hadn't gone well. Nozomi continued to be off-beat while being incapable of dancing quite well like the other girls, which was something that caused her to be bullied relentlessly by the other girls, and she had even come home on some days with her kimono dirtied from how the girls shoved her to the ground.
Nozomi was tired of being bullied by the other girls, especially when they snobbishly left her in charge of cleaning the dance theater every day as part of her initiation to be part of their social group, and she hated how they also switched her dark blue kimono out for a somewhat tighter pink one when she was getting changed for dance practice. The girls would ask her if she wanted to get a better kimono, only for the blonde-haired leader to calmly tell the other girls that Nozomi could never decide anything for herself to where she was like a loser, and the bullying made Nozomi be quite sad. She really hated how they definitely referred to her as a loser who couldn't dance well, and being viewed as lower than them made Nozomi get stuck with tasks such as buying dinner for all the other girls while they had fun in Kuchiba Town without her.
She had finished explaining all of this to her mother, who was standing directly across from her while coughing from some clouds of dust that were on this floor of the tower, and Nozomi merely frowned from how she hated having to talk about being bullied in the dance theater again. Nozomi's mother had taught her how to use some spells of Earth Magic, but she could only use it in cases where she would be doing something that was truly good. Using Earth Magic to resolve petty arguments through force wasn't a good thing that Nozomi's mother approved of, though.
She folded her arms while seeing the sadness in her daughter's eyes, thinking that Nozomi couldn't seriously view violence as her first major option for making the other girls cease with bullying her, and Nozomi began to have tears in her eyes from not knowing what to do. She felt like there was no way for the other girls to stop bullying her, which made her feel like she even had to put up with them dumping dirty mud on her as a prank when she reached the upstairs floor of the dance theater to shower with everyone else, and Nozomi felt like she would just have to put up with their abuse for the rest of the time that she spent as a Kimono Girl.
"I... I don't know what to do, Mom.. I'm sorry for being so weak all the time." Nozomi explained to her mother with tears in her eyes, as she slightly trembled with anxiety.
Nozomi's mother responded to her in a stern manner, "Nozomi, you're partially to blame because of how you let those girls bully you. If you don't like how someone is treating you, then tell them that you want it to stop! Have some inner strength to stand up for yourself, and the bullying should decrease. I don't care if they throw punches out of anger as their reaction, Nozomi. You have to decide what's best for you, and not for others. Don't just do what other people tell you to do, either."
"All right.." Nozomi replied timidly, as she still looked anxious.
"You need to have a powerful will, Nozomi. Make your will be strong like the earth." Nozomi's mother told her with a small smile on her face, as she spoke with confidence.
Nozomi's mother took some steps towards her daughter and lightly ran her fingers through her daughter's brown hair that was in an upwards ponytail, before calmly smiling, and Nozomi smiled a bit as she hoped that her mother's advice would truly be useful. Nozomi started to feel ready about putting that advice to the test tomorrow, as she would gladly tell the girls in the dance theater that they needed to stop bullying her, but her soft smile was soon replaced with a frown of anxiety while a look of indecisiveness began to enter her eyes.
Even if Nozomi decided to tell the girls to stop, there was no definite assurance that they would truly leave her alone. Talking to them about how they bullied her could probably make things get worse, too, and Nozomi did not want to have to wear tighter kimonos or get physically beaten for trying to do what she wanted to do. If she got beaten up, then talking to those girls would prove to always be a futile action that she couldn't do. Nozomi even thought of quitting her job at the Kuchiba Dance Theater, even if that was the only way for her to have her own money right now.
She just wanted the bullying to stop, and Nozomi started to feel like it would be good to stop working at the dance theater. If she stopped working there, then she could just dance when she had free time. That would allow her to have some happiness without the other girls bothering her, and Nozomi could just watch the dance that would occur at the top of the Bell Tower next month instead of being part of it. That seemed like a very favorable decision, since she could just watch the majestic legend associated with this particular holiday from a distance. Also, Nozomi would probably be in a crowd of kind people.
"Nozomi, please try to be a kind and strong person. That's my request for you, so please continue to act that way after I die." Nozomi's mother told her as she started to smile with more happiness.
Nozomi simply responded with a soft smile on her face, "Yes, mama."
That prompted her mother to reply nicely, as she hugged her, "Good. If you become a strong and kind adult, then I'll be in heaven with no regrets."
Nozomi wouldn't want her mother to have any regrets, so she simply nodded as a silent promise that she would strive to be a good person who her mother would never have to worry about. Nozomi started to smile confidently at how she would work hard to be a very kind person who could find ways to make people stop bullying her, and fulfilling that request for her mom was very important. Nozomi silently swore that she would be capable of standing up for herself, and she would also want every other person in Kuchiba Town to see that she would no longer be a bullied or submissive girl who listened to other people's rude demands.
