Kai Hiwatari was crying.

The king of being distant, cold and at times even emotionless.

The guy who was trained to never show any form of emotion is showing his greatest sign of weakness.

Kai Hiwatari is crying.

He was crying for the bloody body that lay in his arms. Cuts covered her face and body and where cuts weren't there was bruises. Her left arm looked was horribly deformed, a bone jetting out. Her legs held painful looking burns.

Kai himself was a little beat up but not as beat up as her. She had served as a shield to Kai. Literally shoving herself in front of him in order to protect him. She took the greater impact of the attack.

They were surrounded by concrete and cold metal.

This was Abbey.

This was where Kai and this girl had grown up. They had spent many painful years together here. They were the best of friends never leaving the other alone.

But in Abbey everyone was a caged bird and even with a friend all caged birds long to be free and go explore the outside world so that they can spread their wings and soar through the sky.

Kai opened his mouth to speak.

" Why?" He asked his voice raspy.

"You're my friend. I couldn't just watch while you got killed." The girl replied her voice soft and distant.

"I wouldn't have died." Kai said his voice sounding sad. " You already took your beating. It was my turn to take mine." Kai finished.

The girl tried to laugh but blood came up instead. Kai's eyes widened as he watched her cough up her own blood. He waited for her to stop and turned her over so that she wouldn't choke on it. She spit it out disdainfully.

"I'm sorry.." She mumbled sadly looking ashamed of herself.

"It's not your fault." Kai started to cry again as he brought her body closer trying to warm her cold body up. " It's mine. I sat and watched as you took my beating." He sobbed into her shoulder.

" You were out cold." she said as firmly as she possibly could at that moment. " You couldn't have stopped me when you're unconscious." She laughed slightly but then a painful expression came across her face.

Kai ran his hands through her brown hair trying to soothe the girl. Sooner or later she fell asleep.

Kai held her close almost as though if he let go she would float away.

"Good night." He mumbled and soon he fell into the world of dreams.

The next day wen Kai woke up he went to wake her but no matter how hard he tried she would not move.

He felt for a pulse.

Nothing.

She had flown away...
