Hi! I'm so glad all of you like my story :D
(James)
The wolf was following him. There was no mistaking that wet dog smell. Most likely to rip James to pieces. He swallowed hard trying to relieve the sudden flare of fire in his throat..he needed Blythe. She had walked away from him..he liked the way she tasted. In more ways than one. The realization quickly hit him and he made the mistake of slowing just so. The monster caught up in two huge leaping bounds and the sudden sensation of sharp teeth sunk into his right shoulder. James let out a frustrated yell and grabbed the pup by his jaws, tearing them apart.. forcing his teeth to let go.
James threw the dog with all his strength and watched it fly into a thick trunk so hard the whole thing was ripped from the roots. A rush of adrenaline hit James and he found himself crossing the street to pursue the wolf instead of running away.
"You're not the only one who can bite." He growled but suddenly her scent came over him..all around him. Perhaps she hadn't left him..their agreement, after all. James stopped mid hunt and his coal black eyes scanned the treeline behind him. Of course she wouldn't stay home..she had a problem with people telling her what to do. He found her then..hurrying up the slope at an annoyingly slow human speed as she grabbed the trunk for support up her last few steps. He took a few seconds to study her..the moonlight shined on her hair giving it the same Midnight Indigo shade as her bedroom light. Her face was pink as she trekked up the slope..a result of her blood rushing through her veins.
James abandoned the whimpering dog and blurred his way next to her. Instead of helping her up the last few steps..he swept her up into his arms and set off for the gazebo in the cemetery at a decent speed.
They reached the place in under a minute and he couldn't wait..he needed her blood. James sat her down on the bench and had his knife out before she could blink.
"You're a singer..my singer." Her blood called to him..sang to him.. but what did it mean that he was feeding on a female from a werewolf line? Her scent certainly wasn't repulsive Is that why she affected him so? The fire was unlike anything he had ever experienced..
(Blythe)
A singer? That's all he had to say after I snuck out again in the dead of night and followed the growls and yelps outside my window to find him tossing a werewolf like it was nothing? What the hell was a singer? Shit. His eyes were the blackest I'd ever seen them..he was getting worse.
"James..I'm sorry for earlier. I just had to find you to tell you that." His gaze never left my throat. "I should have listened to you. I should've stayed in the car..now I don't even have a car. For awhile at least."
His cold hand gripped my shoulder and my pulse went on overdrive.
"It's becoming more difficult to resist drinking the old fashioned way." His voice was strained and he was gripping me to him way too tightly. He shakily drew in breathes and then I was aware of his ice cold lips on my neck.
"James?" I whispered, trying to look up at him but he suddenly switched his arms around me..to where I couldn't move with my arms pinned at my sides. His frozen tongue licked seductively over the throbbing pulse in my throat. The sudden light scrape of teeth had me almost dying of fright.
"You said that would hurt me and you promised not to hurt me..just to make me feel good." Was it only this morning we had come to that agreement after my shower?
His tongue joined in with his teasing teeth..not quite breaking the skin. This man held my life in his hands and he was barely in control..I was terrified. He made a groaning sound deep in his throat as though he were fighting the urge to rip me open and bleed me dry. My terror rolled into tears and begging. The truth started to flow from my lips.
"James..please! Don't! You promised!" I tried to push against him to no avail it was like trying to fight a marble statue. "Don't ruin this. I like this. Whatever this was between us. I like sleeping in my bed knowing you're there. Just the sight of you excites me." He stood there completely still listening to my words.
"I don't want it to be an arrangement anymore..I just want..your tongue felt so good on me in the car," I paused not knowing how to say that..what did I want? Another boyfriend? Maybe not quite yet..not so soon. But something..I wanted something from him. He inhaled my scent deeply again.
"James..you promised. Now take control and kiss me. You promised." His grip loosened on my arms and he pulled back, slightly panting. He suddenly came forward again as a slight blur and his icy lips locked with mine for a few moments. My pulse was starting to calm. He was ice cold yet his lips felt soft and unlike the statue I had felt only moments ago. I kissed him back and gripped his arms..trying to get closer..
"I did promise." He said in a rough tone. His cold hand twisted out of my hair and yanked me against him so he could suddenly stand and swing me into his arms again.
"Where are we going?" I asked into the cold night air after his rushed movements caught up with me.
"I know someone who can help our..predicament..at least a little." His voice was still strained through his hunger and I knew how hard it was for him to restrain himself. He only managed a step before Todd's voice came from behind us.
"Blythe."
James turned to face him and put me down again. He then stepped behind me a few feet keeping our distance. Todd was watching his every move..his eyes moving faster than I thought possible. I was suddenly a little annoyed that everyone else around me were getting nice abilities and all I had was super tasty blood.
"I'll be back before daybreak in time for school." I said to ease his worry.
"He's a vampire!" Seth yelled into the silent night. A vampire whose well being concerned me. How could he stand there and accuse one type of anomaly over another?
"And you're a werewolf!" I yelled right back. "I can damn well do what I please! I'm seventeen. You're fifteen. End of story." I hissed. "I'll be back."
"You're hurt." Todd stated and I gave my body a once over..
"No..I'm not.."
"I wasn't talking to you." His eyes landed again behind me and I turned to James. "Seems like my friend fucked you up a bit."
Was Todd gloating? That wasn't like him..not about something like that.
"We're on my way to my friend who can fix me." He paused slowly tilting his head and smiled a perfect smile at my brother. "Before you interrupted."
"You're hurt?" My heart started to pound faster and I reached out to grab his jacket covered arm. He pulled away suddenly.
"Nothing to concern your pretty little head over." He did that half smirk of his that gave me butterflies and with his eyes so dark and his hair slightly wind tousled he had this dangerous allure to him. The kind that would have me following him into the forest in the dead of night just to find out what he would do to me. I turned back to my brother hoping the blush on my face wasn't noticeable.
"I'm leaving with James. I'll be back in the morning in time for school." If I'm not..I didn't care enough about some Uncle I just met to come back I silently thought.
"Go help your friend." I snapped.
Todd scowled but turned and left in the direction we had come. I reached for James again and this time he shrugged his jacket down over his shoulder to show me a bleeding chunk torn there.. It looked..bad.
"Like I said," He started as he covered the wound back up and reached for me. I let him sweep me up and set off at his vampire pace. "We're on our way to a friend of mine who knows how to treat such wounds and might know about our blood..situation." He left it at that.
"How far away is this friend?"
"Silver Bay, Minnesota."
My heart dropped. Minnesota? Wasn't that practically on the other side of the United States?
"James..I don't know if I should go that far..especially on a Wednesday night." He slowed.
"It's getting more difficult to hold back from drinking you with my teeth. We need answers..so you have more time."
"We're going to come back?"
"We're going to come back." He affirmed.
"Please tell me we aren't running the whole way?" It was too windy and my hair was already a tangled mess. He laughed quietly.
"It would be faster but no I'll steal a car soon. Twenty nine hours from here to there..or we could fly."
"I don't have money to fly." James suddenly came to a halt..his boots kicking up dust behind us.
"Is Todd following us?" I whispered.
"No."
Suddenly two pale blurs were Edward and Jasper.
"We can't allow you to take her." Jasper's southern drawl smoothly reached us. "Now the wolves know we know..they will hold us responsible if any harm comes to her."
"Or the Volturi." Edward breathed. James physically jerked at that. What was the Volturi? Edward was staring into James' eyes intently.
"He knows who they are. Jane has already gotten to him once." Edward said. Who was Jane? James sighed heavily and put me down again. He was giving me up? Just like that? Instead of running off he lowered his jacket again.
"It's not healing as fast as usual..and I would never hurt Blythe." James snapped the last part.
"He believes he's telling the truth." Edward said to Jasper. "Yet she's a singer to him."
"She's a singer but you haven't killed her..drained her dry like some of the rest of us." Jasper drawled a little defensively.
"Let's take them to Carlisle..he can look at that bite and we can keep an eye on her." Edward looked between us all.
"They're vampires too..." I realized aloud.
I looked to James for an answer but he was already agreeing. Edward came forward as though to pick me up but James suddenly snarled behind me and his ice cold chest pressed into my back. His arm wrapped around my lower back and then under my knees. Edward and Jasper paused as James lifted me like before. I'd be lying if I said the gesture didn't flatter me immensely.
"Lead the way." His voice was rough and he glanced down at me for a moment. His black eyes looked animalistic and dangerous against the paler features of his skin and hair. Jasper and Edward turned and blurred away. I raised my hand to lightly touch his face and gave him a small smile.
"Let's go see if they can help us." This was getting too serious of a situation too fast.
"And if not?" He asked, turning to place a quick icy kiss on my palm.
"We go to Silver Bay."
James suddenly stopped again and turned behind us..not bothering to put me down.
It was Todd and DJ this time.
"You're still leaving with him?" DJ clutched his shoulder and he looked hurt and confused. "You're my soulmate and you're leaving with him?" James stiffened more than I thought possible.
What did he just say? Todd was looking between us and squinting as though to see something we couldn't .
"I'm not..your soulmate." Yeah I had felt some bizarre buzzing when I touched his fur but what I felt with James was..different. I wanted to stay with him.
"But Paul said..,"
"We'll talk to Sam or my Uncle..not Paul." Todd said firmly. "You have until daylight." Todd called to us. "Then I'm dragging you back home kicking and screaming." I nodded slowly after realizing he was serious. Todd's eyes had begun to glow a slight amber color.
"Is there a problem here?" Jasper's drawl came from behind us.
"No. Not yet." Todd said and with a last look at me he led DJ away into the forest.
(DJ)
"I don't understand. Paul had to have been right a little."
"You love my sister?" Todd asked. They were almost to the reservation when DJs skin rippled and Todd stepped back while a deep brown wolf burst from his skin. The immediate connection to the pack was like hot water sliding down his back.
"Paul, you lied! You said she was my soulmate but she left with a vampire!" He replayed the last day in his head for the rest to see. It had to be true..he felt something for this girl but she seemed to not feel a thing back..
"That's unusual" Sam said. "It's like a one way street."
"I didn't lie." Paul's deeper growl butted in. "There is something there..just not the soulmate bond per se."
"You love my sister?" Todd asked aloud again and DJ found the control to shift back.
"I don't know..I want to protect her. I definitely want to fuck her." He announced boldly standing on the beach stark naked next to her brother. "And I can pull her scent from miles away to find her. Yet she wanted to leave with a vampire."
Todd didn't say anything for a moment and then his Uncle Reed's voice reached them from the treeline beyond the beach.
"Your sister is proving to be a nuisance. Go home. Your friend stays..he will track your sister for us." Todd and DJ looked at one another suddenly unsure.
"Meet back at my place after?" Todd asked and DJ nodded. Maybe they would find out what was going on by themselves.
(Todd)
He stepped into his house and welcomed the familiar smells. His mother smelled not far off from her death..it caused his chest to constrict painfully but he forced himself to enter her room anyway.
"Mom..we need to talk about Blythe. And you."
"Come in and close the door. Is your Uncle nearby?" His mom asked in a hushed voice.
Todd closed the door and sensed a sudden wave of anxiety coming from her.
"No..he's at the reservation..looking for Blythe." Todd couldn't help the aggravated growl that left his throat..he had to rein it in..he sounded more like an animal just then.
"I know..of course." His mother gave him an emotionless smile. "About werewolves and vampires. I thought..your Uncle and Grandfather..," She stops and sighs. "I have a lot to tell you and I don't want your Uncle hearing or knowing what we've talked about. Where is Blythe?"
His mother knew of vampires..he should just tell her..
"She chose to go with a vampire..and with the doctors kids." He growled. His mother relaxed back into her pillows a bit.
"She'll be safe with Carlisle. He's a... doctor."
"You don't want her to come home?" Todd asked, thoroughly confused.
"You're Uncle is not the same man who helped me escape all those years ago. I'm sure our father has gotten to him." His mom raised her tear filled eyes. "He's different..not like himself..," She trailed off as though just realizing something.
"Escape?"
"After I die..you have to promise me you'll protect your sister, Todd. Don't let him take you two with him to Arizona. I haven't signed any papers yet. I just needed to buy some time..,"
His mother wasn't making any sense..
"This vampire your sister is with.." She started.
"I don't know if he has good intentions or not yet."
"Well..find out. We need all the help we can get."
Todd looked at the floor guiltily.
"If he can be any help now..DJ bit him."
"What?" His mother gasped, hopping up and slipping her shoes on.
"Where are we going?" Todd asked.
"You need to shift..we need to find them."
"Uncle Reed has DJ tracking down Blythe right now. DJ said he was her soulmate or something."
"It's Ren and Leo all over again."She scowled as they ran down the stairs with Todd right behind her.
"I haven't shifted yet." Todd admitted, feeling some kind of shame. "I got close earlier but..,"
"Then we use my car."
(Blythe)
We broke through the treeline and the Cullen's home came into view. All of them were outside standing too still.. their catlike movements detected in their eyes following us up the gravel driveway.
James suddenly grunted and stumbled a step. My heart was in my throat and I scrambled to get out of his vice like grip and stand. My feet touched the ground and suddenly seven vampires were standing around us. Emmett and Jasper both helped James to the house..faster than I could blink. Carlisle was then a blur into the house behind them.
Rosalie, Esme, and Alice all stood in front of me somewhat blocking the house.
"I took Bella home." Edward said from behind me. I tried to side step and go into the house but Rosalie moved to counteract my step.
"It's not safe to be in there, Blythe." Alice's little voice tinkled. "Not while he's like that. Edward should take you home." All of them seemed to glow in the pale moonlight. I thought of my Uncle and all the werewolves and shook my head.
"Not yet. He needs my blood."
"He needs blood, yes." Esme put in gently. "It doesn't need to be yours."
"Actually..I think it does." Edward said again from behind me. I turned to find him looking at me strangely. The same way he looked at James before knowing things.. "She's a singer to him." He announced.
"All the more reason to take her home." Rosalie snapped.
"She would just come back." Edward stated and Alice nodded..agreeing.
"We do this the right way." Carlisle was suddenly beside me and I jumped back at his frozen touch on my arm. He held up the empty donation bag and needle.
"May I?" He asked politely and all I could do was nod. "Everyone..give us some distance, please." I suddenly realized I was about to give blood in front of a number of vampires and then..they weren't there. My eyes couldn't follow their movements fast enough. A quick swab of an alcohol pad across my skin and a sudden sharp quick poke to my arm had me looking back at the needle.
"Squeamish?" He asked quietly. "I keep extra juice on me..for humans."
I was too preoccupied with the fact that this vampire..this otherworldly creature devoted his entire being to helping humans to answer his question.
"Seems not." He smiled up at me and I couldn't help but give a sheepish half smile back.
"I'm sorry. I only just found out about..you know. You and..," I trailed off lamely. "Is James going to be okay?" He taped a small piece of gauze over the puncture wound.
"We'll soon find out." He took a juice from his lab coat pocket and handed it to me. I thankfully cracked the lid..all the events and running around tonight were finally catching up with me. I killed the drink in a few gulps.
Carlisle suddenly stiffened and turned to the woods behind us.
"Go inside, Blythe. We have company." My Uncle stepped from the shadows. His furious face looked from me to the bag of blood to Carlisle.
"You foolish girl! Your mother has told you nothing! You don't realize what you're doing! I can't allow your blood to rest in the hands of leeches." He snarled..his eyes taking on that ominous amber glow in the dark.
"You're not taking her." James said from behind us and I whirled in time to see him snatch the blood bag from Carlisle and drain it dry in a matter of seconds. He threw the empty bag aside with a scowl and his predator eyes looked me over in a way that had goosebumps flaring over my entire body. "She's mine." He growled. Carlisle quickly pulled aside his shirt and the wound..was gone! It had healed!
"From what I've heard..Werewolves were created to be the apex predator to other predators..vampires." Carlisle muttered as a quick warning to James..was that true? Was he setting himself up to get killed? I found the thought of James dying..painful. A literal pain shot throughout my chest
"Let them try!" He snarled looking like an animalistic God suddenly striding forward with the intention to kill written all over his face.
