It was another day at the Switchback Cove. All of the mammals were starting to get up and start the day. Some would search for food, or just appreciate the warm morning sun.
Somewhere at a cave, a bunch of mammals were sleeping soundly. However, an orange saber tooth had just woke up from his sleep. He slowly walked out of the cave and let the sun light hit his fur.
He sniffed at the fresh air and then sighed. That day promised to be a good day. He then walked to the closer waterhole and drank some of it. The cold liquid refreshing his body.
"Good morning, Softie." A female voice said behind him.
Diego almost choked on his water. But he quickly coughed it off. "Ohh hey, Sh-- I mean, hello Shira!!" He said trying to look confident. "I didn't know you were awake."
"Yeah, i bit longer than you. I thought that the remorseless assassin would wake up earlier than that." Shira said teasingly. Diego rolled his eyes at her.
"Well, it's still early. That's all that matters." He said as he stretched himself a little. "So, i should be going to find some food. Are you coming??" He asked.
However, Shira seemed to get a bit worried. "You mean, going hunt??" She asked.
Diego smiled. "Yeah. Or do you expect the gazelles to come to us??" He asked jokingly. They both chuckle. "Anyway, are you coming??"
"I-i don't wanna be a bother, or... disturb your hunting." Shira said nervously. He raised an eyebrow.
"You wouldn't bother me, Shira. C'mon. Let's do this together." He said trying to encourage her. At last, Shira finaly accepted and followed him to the meadow. Even though she wasn't very sure of it.
Diego's POV
I was so glad that Shira had accepted to go hunt with me. Even though i couldn't figure out why she didn't want to come with me. I mean, we're both tigers. We can handle ourselves out. As we made it to the meadow, i lowered myself into the grass and approached to the herd of gazelles. I looked back to see Shira doing the same. I gesture with my head towards the gazelle. She noded.
I began to slowly approache the gazelle. Damn, that was a big an fat one. I notice Shira trying to catch one too on my left. Once we're both close enough, we both attack.
Obvioulsy, the gazelles ran away from us. I run after mine and once i reached her i jump and bite on her neck, breaking it. I cheer for myself for a moment. I looked behind me, but I couldn't see Shira anywhere. Maybe her gazelle ran the other way around. I decided to go and wait for her. I grab my now dead gazelle and follow the same path I made to the meadow. There was no one there anymore, so I just waited by myself.
Soon after, Shira finally showed up. Unfortunately, however, she doesn't have anything with her.
I raised a brow and asked: "What happened?? Where's your gazelle??" I asked worriedly. She seemed upset. After a few seconds, she finally answered.
"I… I lost mine." She said, and my eyes widened. How could a skilled tigress like her lose prey like this? I just brushed it off.
"Well, it's okay. Don't worry about it. This one I got has meat for both of us." I said, surprising her even more.
"Are you not mad at me??" Shira asked, and I looked at her confused.
"Of course I'm not. Sometimes we all lose a prey." I said, smiling. Are you coming? Go so I t her.
"And you are going to share yours with me??" Shira asked again.
"Of course I will!! You can't just starve because you didn't get anything. Now let's get going before the flies start roaming around our lunch." I say as I bite on the gazelle and bring it with us.
On our way, I noticed that she seemed a bit down. Maybe she's just hungry.
Once we stopped to eat, she seemed reluctant as she ate the carcass. What's the matter with her?? As we were both done eating, I could see that she was still a bit upset. I had an idea. I began to lick her messy face off. She seemed very surprised.
"D-Diego?! What are you doing??" Shira asked with a mild chuckle.
"What?? I'm just cleaning my girlfriend off." I said, and then I realized what I had just said. "I-I'm sorry, Shira. I shouldn't have..." I tried to apologize, but she cut me off.
"It's okay, Diego. I like it." She said with a wink. I blush a little, and she sees it.
"Awww, my Softie is blushing?? How sweet." She teased me, and I nuzzled on her.
"Only you can make me feel that way," I confess. We both nuzzle on each other for a while. I simply love her so much. "Oh, Shira..." I whisper.
She chuckled and purred. "What are we doing today??" She asked. I thought for a moment.
"How about we go around the island?? We should discover some new places and just roam around." I suggested, and she seemed to like it.
"Alright, we can do that. It sounds lovely." Shira said as she turned around. "I'll wash my face off, and then we can go." She said with a wink. I smirked as I couldn't wait to go around with her.
This day would be perfect.
