Sorry for the delay and not posting this on Saturday but have you ever had one of those weekends where it all just goes completly nuts and you have no time to even think. Hopefully the rest will all be up tomorrow as I still need to proof read them.

Prompt 4 – Drunken Carolling

There was a knock at the door and Daniel stumbled to his feet to go and answer it. Teal'c however gripped his arm as he went past.

"This is not your home DanielJackson," he said sternly, "O'Neill is the one who should be opening the door."

Daniel pouted but turned to look expectantly at Jack as whoever it was knocked again.

"I'm coming, I'm coming," Jack called as got to his feet. He was nowhere near as drunk as Daniel but his walk was still decidedly unsteady as he made his way past Sam, who was sitting watching proceedings with a drunken smile on her face and then past Teal'c and Daniel, where Teal'c was still holding onto Daniel but it was now in an attempt to keep him upright rather than from answering the door.

Jack got to the door and checked through the peephole. Smiling at what he saw he pulled open the door and said, "Just wait two minutes, there's a few other people here who might like this."

The group standing on his front step looked confused but nodded. "Daniel, Carter, T," Jack called over his shoulder, "Get out here."

He heard as they started to move around and he was soon joined by his team, Sam having made it under her own steam, while Daniel had had to be half-carried by Teal'c.

Jack turned his attention back to the group and smiled."Take it away," he said gently.

The four of them stood in the doorway and listened as the group of Girl Scouts that had knocked on the door started singing Silent Night.

As they sang Daniel swayed from side to side, trusting Teal'c to keep him from falling over while humming along with the singing.

On Jack's other side he could see that Sam was mouthing the words along with the girls, a soft smile on her face. She must have felt his eyes on her because she looked away from the carolers and held his gaze, her soft smile growing as Jack found himself smiling back before he returned his attention to the girls.

As they finished Silent Night SG1 clapped and Daniel drunkenly called, "More, more."

SG 1 all laughed but looked at the girls expectantly, hoping they had more songs that they could sing.

The girls talked amongst themselves for a moment and as they talked Sam grabbed her purse off the coat rack where she'd hung it when she'd arrived and pulled out some money. Still smiling she handed it to the Girl Scout leader who was standing with a collection tin.

Daniel then started clapping as the girls started up with Here Comes Santa Clause. He hummed along like he had before but then started to conduct vigorously and started signing along with them. After a few lines however the girls stopped and descended into giggles. Daniel carried on oblivious, however.

"Enough Daniel." Jack said softly, trying to keep from laughing, "You're ruining these girls lovely signing with your drunken caterwauling."

"I'm not caterwauling," Daniel replied indignantly.

Behind him, Jack heard as Sam started giggling, which only intensified the giggles of the Girl Scouts.

"Are too."

"Are not."

"Are too."

"Indeed DanielJackson," Teal'c said in his calm voice, stopping the argument in its tracks, "You are interrupting their singing."

Daniel pouted but then turned to the girls. "I'm sorry," he slurred slightly," I didn't mean to interrupt. You're all very good.l just got carried away."

"Yeah," Jack said." You do that a lot."

"Don't start that again," Sam said as Daniel opened his mouth to argue with Jack. She turned her attention to the Girl Scout Leader. "Sorry," she apologised, "They behave like children when they've been drinking."

"Hey," both men exclaimed indignantly as the Girl Scout leader laughed.

"I'm gonna go sit down," Daniel suddenly announced. He turned and started to stumble back towards the front room. Teal'c, Jack and Sam watched him go and then Teal'c jumped forwards as Daniel tripped over nothing and almost fell on his face.

"I shall accompany you," Teal'c said, taking a firm grip on his arm. He led Daniel back into the sitting room.

Jack and Sam then turned back to the group of girls who had just about stopped giggling and were now starting to fidget awkwardly.

"Can we have one more song? "Sam asked them, "Then we'll let you go and sing for some of the other houses."

The girls looked to their leader who nodded encouragingly. Jack suddenly had an idea and went to the leader and spoke to her quietly. Sam couldn't hear what was being said but the woman was nodding along with whatever Jack was scrying to her. Some of the girls could also hear what was being said and they were nodding too. Jack stepped back to stand beside Sam, a smile on his face. Sam gave him a questioning look but he just continued to smile, not giving anything away.

She then turned her attention back to the girls as they started to sing once more Sam recognised the song immediately, it was her favourite Christmas carol. She smiled at the girls and then jumped slightly as she felt a hesitant arm wrap around her waist. Looking at Jack she gave him that smile she reserved especially for him before she turned her gaze back to the Scouts.

As they continued to sing she let herself relax and rested her head against Jack's shoulder. They began to sway slightly to the singing and when the Scouts finished everyone remained silent for a moment.

"Thank you," Jack said softly, breaking the silence," That was beautiful."

The girls all smiled at him. He then reached into his back pocket and pulled out some bills. He handed them to the leader." Merry Christmas," he said, his voice still soft, "And good luck with the rest of your fundraising."

There was a mixture of thank yous and Merry Christmas's in response and then the girls turned and headed for the next house.

His arm still around Sam Jack reached out and shut the door. As it clicked shut Sam removed her head from his shoulder and twisted slightly so she was now facing him rather than the two of them being side by side.

"Thank you," she whispered, her voice so soft it was barely audible, "That was my favourite Christmas carol as a kid."

"I know," Jack informed her, his voice equally as soft, "I'm glad you liked it."

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw as Sambeamed at him. "Merry Christmas Jack," she whispered. She pushed herself up onto her tiptoes and kissed his cheek. As she pulled away Jack turned his head and pressed a kiss into her hair. "Merry Christmas Sam."
