"Once upon a time there was a boy who would never grow up…"
Sarah glanced up from where she was folding laundry. Les was reading the story allowed, and even though he often commented that by now he was 'much too old' to read little kids stories, this one was an exeption. They'd only read the story for the first time last week, but Les had become attached to it already. Sarah looked at the wedding ring on her finger. It was simple, but she and Jack had big plans for their future. Sarah Kelly…it seemed to fit. Frankly, David was estatic, and from even where he stood a few feet away, making his bed, she knew he was happy to have his best friend as a brother-in-law.
"There were three kids, and there names were…David, Sarah, and Les!"
This caused them all to look up, then laugh. That was ironic, three kids. Les continued reading the story, making all of the appropriate changes which caused them to laugh, especially when compairing the likeness of David and John, as well as Les and Micheal. Finally, it came to the part about Jack, Les began really changing things.
"And then a boy named Jack Kelly came and took the three of them away from their normal life and into the life of a Newsie!" Les wasn't even looking at the page anymore, he knew the story well enough, and was making the connections himself. He glanced at the page about meeting the mermaids. "Then Jack took Les and David to meet the mermaids, one in particular named Medda!"
While Sarah marveled at Les' brilliance, David was on the floor laughing. "What about the Lost Boys, Les? You can't forget the Lost boys!" Les laughed, and began to replace the Lost Boys with Newsies. Racetrack became Slightly, and Kid-Blink became Nibs. Mush was quickly transformed into Tootles, and the title of Curly went to Crutchy. Boots and Snipeshooter became the twins.
"Alright…" Said David. He wiped a tear from his eye that had gotten there because he was laughing so hard, and asked, "What about Spot? Who's Spot? And who're the pirates?"
"I'm getting there, I'm getting there," Les waved impatiently and continued the story. About how the evil hook-handed pirate Pulitzer and his pirates including Seitz and the mayor, and Hearts, along with Smee (Snyder) tried to take down Jack and his Lost Boys.
He also told them how when things looked back for Jack and the Lost boys, all at once the Indians came into to save them.
"'Never feah, Brooklyn is here,' cried out the leader of the Indians as they all pulled out slingshots…er…bows and arrows and got rid of the goons…er…pirates."
Les finished off the story with everyone staying in Neverland and living happily ever after and raised his head for comments. None came however, because Sarah and David where laughing too hard to breath, let alone talk.
My first fanfiction, and I don't know if it really counts as fanfiction. I just got to thinking about how alike Peter Pan and the Newsies were and this sort of came to me. I mean, think about it, Peter takes John, Wendy, and Micheal from their normal lives and into Neverland, the lost boys, all that stuff just seems to relate. If you have any more ideas like this, let me know!
