A/N
Here we go, I'm proud to release chapter two, it's a bit shorter than the last chapter, as I want to set a reasonable goal for myself. That being to release a minimum of one chapter a week.
For warning, I tried my hand at writing combat. I am very sorry, I hope it isn't too boring for you all, but I felt it would be good to include at least once. So take it all in, cause they will be few and far between.
Oh and just in case.

The Hostess was busy that evening, and over in the corner, was a duo of a goddess and her child. They had recently arrived and were greeted at the front by the grey haired Miss Syr, she quickly brought them over to the corner of the bar, since Bell seemed to be uncomfortable in the more crowded dining area.
The pub had begun to settle, as people were passing out or paying their tabs to leave. The pair had arrived quite late. In fact, a certain Elf had begun to think Bell wasn't coming, she was worried, something typically not done by her.
'How curious' She couldn't help but think.
It wasn't long until Ryuu had come along to take their orders, leading into a somewhat awkward duel between Bell and the Elf regarding who owed who. Some time later though, Bell had ordered a large plate of pasta, and Hestia, after some convincing to let him pay, ordered the meatloaf.
Bell had his second small argument of the night when Mama Mia tried to push a mug of ale onto him. It took some time. Eventually though, he talked her down to giving him a fruit nectar drink, and, as Bell had never had 'nectar' before, he was quite fascinated with it.
Bell had now experienced two new luxuries in two days, first the jagamarukun, now the nectar. In Bell's mind, the decision to come to Orario was already paying off.
"Mama Mia, may I take my break, since it's slowing down?" Ryuu asked.
Mia looked at her, then the dining room. She nodded. Ryuu took the seat next to Bell.
She found a road block almost immediately, that being, she had nothing to talk about. But had already taken the initiative to sit beside him. Looking over, Ryuu saw Bell and Hestia staring at her, and she could almost feel Syr's grin as she peeked from the kitchen door.
"So Bell, how was the dungeon?" Her voice hitched, almost blushed because of it, but only she had noticed.
His face brightened at the question, and all thoughts of her awkwardness washed away with the simple thought of 'cute'.
"It was amazing! I saw so many more monsters in one day than I could in a month outside, it was amazing! I can't wait to cash in my crystals to see how I did."
"Wait?! Was today your first day going down?!" Ryuu had more emotion in her voice than usual, bringing the attention of Mama Mia and Anya who was currently serving.
"Is that not good…" Bell was beginning to worry.
"Ah! No, that's not what I meant, I just hadn't expected that. My apologies." Ryuu lowered her head.
"No, no! I should have mentioned that before!"
Hestia sighed, realizing with dread that she was about to sit through Ryuu and Bell's second fight of the night over who was more sorry.
.
It was sometime later, and after Ryuus salad arrived that Bell had finally given in and accepted her apology. Not only to Hestia's delight, but to a few patrons who mumbled some 'finally's' alongside her.
Hestia celebrated by ordering another ale while Bell began the story of his adventure in the dungeon, at the request of Ryuu.
"Ah, well, everything went fine, my adviser Eina had prepared me thoroughly beforehand for it, and I had fought everything I had encountered there at one point or another before arriving in Orario, so it wasn't that big a deal."
Ryuu took the sudden info dump in strides.
First she was relieved it wasn't too hard on him. Second was his dungeon adviser was female. Third was he had fought monsters outside Orario. Fourth was that his dungeon adviser was female… Eh, I said that already…
"I'm glad to hear that, so you fought before coming to Orario?" Bell nodded to Ryuu, "Pardon me goddess Hestia if this seems rude, but, who's falna did you have before coming to Orario?"
"I didn't have one." Bell slurped up the last of his pasta with a satisfied hum.
"W-What?" Bell looked at her. Ryuu had heard many idiotic things in her life, she works in an adventurers pub for pete's sake, but what kind of level is he on here?
"Did- Did I do something weird again…"
'Again?' thought Ryuu, "Do you surprise often?"
Bell's hand found the back of his neck as Hestia answered for him, "Hopefully he stops soon…"
"Okay then, so how is this 'Dungeon Adviser' of yours?"
"Oh! Miss Eina! She's great, taught me everything I needed to know before even letting me within eyesight of the dungeon."
"Yes, you did spend quite a bit of time with that half-elf yesterday didn't you..?" Hestia threw her two valis in.
The Elf suddenly started pulling lightly at her fingers, something only a grey haired girl behind the kitchen door could see.
"She sounds… reliable."
"Yes, she really is." Bell's expression fell back, becoming uncomfortably somber. "I get the feeling that she doesn't get a lot of people coming back after the first day though…"
Ryuus thoughts stopped, and were now filled with all the potential ways a new rookie could perish without proper guidance. She caught herself sliding down a dangerous slope.
"So did anything else happen down there?"
"No, not really." Ryuu was just about to sigh in relief, until - "Oh, but I got lost in there for an hour or so…"
"Huh… Wait, WHAT?!" Ryuu recoiled as his words hit her. "You got lost?!"
"W-Well it was the hardest topic for me in the classes…"
"That doesn't matter! Having all the information you can is imperative to your survival, you could have died!"
"But I didn't!"
"Not important!" Ryuu dismissed any and all attempts to sate her. "What if you were hurt and needed to get back as soon as possible?"
"Ah… Well…"
Ryuu sighed, "Do you have a map of the first floor?"
"Ah-Ye-Yes, why?"
"Good, you'll bring it by and study when you come again for your lunch."
Hestia (and Syr in the back) perked up, "Again?" rang Hestia.
"Bu-"
"No buts." Before Bell could argue further, Ryuu stood up holding her empty plate and walked to the kitchen, almost running into the spying Syr on the way.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Bell had a rough night, first he had to deal with his goddess poking fun at him for becoming 'excellent friends' with yet another elf. Second was that he couldn't find the papers Ryuu had asked him to bring until around midnight. Third and finally was that the couch he had been sleeping on, suddenly snapped in the night, much to his dissatisfaction.
All in all, Bell was very tired when the light began to peak through the foundations. So much so that for the first time in years, Bell almost slept in. However, he had several things to be done this morning before his expected duties of dungeon diving.
Bell had woken Hestia a short time later so she wouldn't miss her job, a herculean task of its own. It wasn't long before he had started to brush his teeth, Hestia followed his lead and began to dance as she did, causing Bell to eventually tap his foot, and join in after a few moments.
Soon the pair had to say their partings, now several blocks from the Hostess where their paths diverged.
Bell had with him the documents that would save himself from a certain Elfesses' wrath. He had looked over them shortly before falling asleep, and once more before heading out.
The morning was ripe, being mid spring, the temperature was cool and damp, not rainy, but a bit foggy while the dew settled in awe of the rising sun.
As Bell walked, most of the shops around him were closed, only one or two people were roaming the streets, mostly those who were still up from the night. It wasn't until he closed in on his destination that Bell began to hear the sounds of activity.
Bell arrived at the hostess to find two ladies standing on the front porch, one being a grey haired woman sweeping said porch, and the other, the person of whom he was looking for. He approached.
"Miss Ryuu, Miss Syr, good morning."
The Elven waitress courtly nodded to the white haired visitor. The other, calmly walked down the few stairs, and proceeded to smack him in the side with her broom.
"Miss Syr?! / Syr?!" Both shouted in antisense, while Ryuu leaped down the stairway grabbing the broom herself while Bell blocked with his arm.
"No Miss!" Syr shouted with a stern look.
"Ah- I'm sorry, Syr, I forgot about that."
Syr had turned to the side crossing her arms "Hmph, better." She peaked one of her eyes open to look at him and Ryuu standing side by side, "Now, you're here too early for lunch, should I assume you're here to talk up one of our waitresses."
Bell blushed and Ryuu flinched. "S-Syr! Don't slander Mr. Cranel, you know he's here to study, you were snooping on us during dinner so you should know."
It was Syrs turn to flinch. "Wait, she was watching us last night, why?"
Syr posed with a finger against her lips. "That's a secret Bell!"
A mixture of emotions were spread between the two, but before any questions could be asked, Syr grabbed the broom and ran back into the Hostess.
.
They stood there for a few seconds, Bell finally calming down his reddened face, while Ryuu caught up to the moment. "Mr. Cranel, I assume you remembered to bring your notes, yes?"
"Mh, yes I remembered." Bell showed off the folder of different papers.
"Good, then follow me." Bell did as was asked, following Ryuu into the Pub.
The first thing he noticed was the other staff moving rather quickly to perform several tasks around the room, he suddenly stopped and took note of how he was using Ryuu's time.
He suddenly spoke out. "Miss Ryuu, I'm sorry, I didn't realize this was when you all began work, should I come at a better time?"
Bell was becoming increasingly worried as Ryuu turned to face him with her normal indifferent expression and tone. "No, it's fine, I have already completed my morning work, so I'm free to help until I am needed."
This did little to satisfy him, only worrying more since the others seemed to be doing a fair bit, and for Ryuu to have hers done, means she must have woken early.
Bell was worried, but he was also grateful, so he decided to make the most of the time she gave him, if not for himself, then to make Ryuus effort pay off.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
They had finished as the sun hit the back courtyard where they had been studying for almost an hour. Bell had thanked her profusely afterwards. Ryuu being Ryuu had denied his thanks as per usual, and instead tried to brush it off as no big deal. The denizens of the Hostess were getting fed up with the constant 'battles of humbleness' which seemed to happen everyday now.
Soon after departing from the Hostess, Bell found himself holding a small cloth wrapped box filled to the brim with food from Ryuu. He was ever grateful for the food, and insisted on paying her for it, almost starting another 'battle' if not for Syr stepping in and suggesting he eat in every once in a while as thanks.
He had been having a pleasant day ever since waking up fully at the Hostess. Sadly, it would not last long, having arrived at the guild to find an angry staff, and a tired/relieved/angry Eina waiting for him. But the most surprising thing was that he had beat all expectations, gaining the shock of both Eina and a Miss Rose behind the counter.
Soon though, he found himself in the dungeon once again.
.
Bell changed when he was in the dungeon, he became more alert, focused and quiet. Not only that, but he was moving notably faster through the dungeon than the night before, his studying was paying off.
The area in question was the first floor. The environment was of a blue earth with a series of glowing crystals embedded in the walls, producing the only light available. The light was just enough for adventurers, but for Bell, a person whose people lived in an area where light could be unavailable for months at a time, he had no problem seeing.
Bell had encountered a series of individual monsters.
First came the goblins, since arriving this morning, Bell had fought and killed eight. Next were the Kobolds, the only other monster besides goblins, of which he had fought six. Bell was by normal standards steamrolling, as it had been only an hour since arriving at the entrance.
Bell heard the occasional adventurer moving along, and sometimes coming back, so he made his way to an area of interest he found during his studies with Ryuu this morning. What he found was a small chamber where supposedly a greater chance of group spawnings occurred, something that wasn't normal for the level.
He soon made his way to this area, only to find a small dome shaped room with nothing but open space and walls. He walked to the side of the entrance, now exit, and sat down. It was his first break of the day, and for the first time in his hour and a half exploring, Bell couldn't hear any other adventurers.
He sat with his head against the wall, feeling the cold stone cool his thoughts while they wandered. He was grateful, grateful for his goddess Hestia, his new found friend Ryuu at the Hostess, and his dedicated adviser Eina, all of whom were ever concerned with his well being. Bell had never felt so lucky and grateful at the same time.
.
'Crack'
Bell's eyes shot open, scanning the walls for monsters. He found a series of different cracks opening in them, all of which arms and legs began to appear.
Bell stood up, quickly checking his back, the exit, to make sure it was still clear.
He looked to his new enemies, counting four goblins and two kobolds, all of which noticed him and charged at once.
Unlike the lower floors where groups of enemies can spawn more frequently, these monsters had no concept of teamwork, and as such constantly got in each other's way.
It was the only grace the dungeon would bestow upon him.
The Kobolds arrived first, both swung at once, Bell dodged the firsts, with the second kobold hitting the first's arm as their attacks collided.
While the first kobold recoiled back, Bell lunged forward and cut through the second's chest, shoving the beast back in the process.
The first Kobold moved to swing again as the goblins approached, Bell swept down and stabbed just in front of the elbow.
He twisted, breaking away one of the bones, crippling its arm while pushing it aside.
Bell moved past the kobolds, using the slow swing of the goblin to implant his knife in its chest just beside the stone.
Three left, he pulled back, missing the second goblins' attack.
The third pushed the fourth out of the way, swinging hard and missing, allowing Bell to slice at the back of its neck.
With just two left, Bell backed further away, he stood his ground now as both moved to his sides, he eyed the one on his left as it charged first, but Bell simply planted his foot in it's chest, pushing him away leading to a thunk where it landed.
As the goblin to his right pushed up, Bell met him half way and sliced through his arm, cutting through and exposing the goblins' front, leading to another simple death by stabbing.
Bell swiftly turned to the last goblin, only to find it bleeding from the head against a rock.
Bell scopes out the scene.
Four goblins and a kobold lay dead in the room, the second kobold being crippled in both arms, had run, leaving nothing but dust. Bell may have been able to track him if he tried, but with lunch coming soon, and his bag soon to be full, he elected to head back to the surface to empty it, leaving the kobold as a free kill for a lucky adventurer.
When Bell arrived back at the guild, he was once again met with looks of astonishment and suspicion from Rose.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The afternoon sun beat down on the city of Orario as the bright sun gave way to an orange hue.
Bell was making his way to the market district; he had already dropped the box off with Ryuu, having now made a promise to eat at the Hostess later this week. He passed numerous stalls and later shops as he made his way to the section housing various utility shops for things like equipment and weapons. Bell walked into one such shop as an older gentleman manned the counter.
He made his way over to the wall covered in several different variations of backpacks and satchels.
"Kid, you lookin for anything specific?" the clerk asked.
Bell turned to the man speaking before approaching. "Uh, yes, I'm looking for a bag that's larger than this one, but won't encumber me while fighting should I need to." Bell lifted the bag from himself to show it off.
"Imh, you a supporter or an adventurer, kid?"
"I'm a solo adventurer."
"Ah, then I'd recommend this one." He lifted a bag from behind the counter, a duplicate of one on the wall. It was cloth reinforced with leather at the seams and had various leather straps along the sides in case the user needed a little more space. It was the same dark brown as Bell's current one.
"Looks fine, but only a little bigger, can we test for how much room it has?" Bell asked.
The clerk hummed in agreement, walking into the back room behind him, returning soon after holding several large spools of cloth. He managed to get three into Bell's bag, next he took the same rolls and placed them plus an extra into the new bag, and it had room to spare.
Bell "It's good."
Cleric "that it is."
B "How much"
C "5,300V"
B "4,000"
C "5,000"
B "4,400"
C "4,900"
Bell leaned to the left, eyeing the bow on the back wall. "5,000V and that bow on the wall."
The cleric turned to assess the weapon, then looked back at Bell, he slowly began to nod his head. "Alright, but only if you take care of that bow, it took care of me when I was in the dungeon, you know."
"You explored the dungeon?"
"Yup, I was an adventurer like you, till I took an arrow to the knee."
Bell only nodded, forking up the 5K Valis, then making his way out.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Bell was on the way towards the second shop on his list, the Blue Pharmacy, and he had to admit, it wasn't the best neighborhood, but he didn't mind. That wouldn't stop him, he'd dealt with the occasional mugger or two, but it still nagged at the back of his mind, like someone was watching him.
.
As he entered the front door, he found a 'showroom' filled with a small counter and several shelves lined with various potions and ingredients. The door had a small bell at the top, presumably to inform the attendant of customers. It wasn't long until a Chienthrope walked in through a door to the back, she boasted a set of dog ears resting on the top of her head.
"Hello, I am Naaza, member of the Miach Familia and operator of the Blue Pharmacy, how may I help you?" she seemed a touch sleepy, maybe that's just how she was?
He took the initiative. "Hello, I'm looking for a place to buy potions, I was recommended this place by my adviser, along with the Dian Cecht familia."
Naaza unnoticeably jumped in place. "We have every potion you could need, from standard to high, as well as Elixirs if you request them ahead."
Bell was surprised, though looking back he didn't know why, it was what he came here for after all.
"So, potions, can you tell me about them?"
Naaza came around the counter. "We sell various remedies for diseases and illnesses alike." she pointed to a long row of various colored bottles, then to another shelf of only red colored ones.
"But our most commonly purchased item is the Potion. It's a concoction that can restore a person's physical body to an extent, closing wounds like cuts or healing burns, It will also not replace the blood lost."
Her right elbow and hand twitched. "It cannot regrow body parts or lost limbs."
She gestured to a locked shelf behind the counter, containing a darker red series of potions. "The next is the High Potion, a more potent variant, but is capable of fixing larger injuries."
She once again gestured to another shelf behind the counter, which was also locked with a citrus colored bottle set inside. "After that we have another item known as the Magic Potion, it is specially made to restore one's mind should they get too low, but it should be used as a last resort."
"It's worth noting that over consumption of healing, magical, and other such products, can lead to minor stomach issues."
Finally at the end of her long winded lecture on the products of the shop, Bell approached the shelf beside her which had the normal potions. Bell picked a set of three, and along with Naaza, walked to the counter.
"Will this be all today?"
"Uh, no, is it possible to get a couple that are watered down, you know, for smaller injuries in an uncomfortable place, like if my palm was cut or something."
Naaza's eyes widened an unnoticeable amount. "Yes that is possible, however if you do, I would like you to sign a waiver saying that you agreed to the purchase of said weaker potions."
"Of course." Bell replied, Naaza walked over to the shelf and grabbed a normal potion, walking around the counter to the back room. She arrived back with a parchment and two bottles this time.
"Alright, sign this, afterwards your payment will be 2,000 Valis for the three potions two halves." Naaza stated in monotone.
Bell signed the document after skimming it, the writing was short and to the point.
But not a moment after Bell paid, another person entered the shop.
"Naaza, I'm ba-"
The tall man stopped, now looking between the two who were standing at the counter staring back. The man looked over at Bell and soon developed a smile.
"White hair and red eyes, you must be Bell Cranel, Hestia's new child."
"Ah, y-yes sir, pleasure to meet you."
"Ah, no the pleasures is mine, I am Miach, god of the Familia which runs this humble shop."
"Oh yes, lord Miach, my goddess mentioned you, she said you were a nice person, It seems I chose a good place to buy from." Bell smiled, he'd heard a good deal about the god, Hestia claimed he was one of the most gentle gods around.
"Why thank you Bell, you don't seem so bad yourself." At this point Miach's attention lands on Naaza, or more so how her head seems to be hanging, though he wonders why.
He spies the bottles on the counter, normally when she sells watered down potions, she doesn't think twice, even with Miach around. Now though, she knows that this customer is actually an associate of a good friend of her god. She regrets trying to trick him, she would never want a friend of Miachs to give him grief over her work.
Miach turned to Bell, "Bell, it seems these particular potions were on the old side, and the quarks weren't put in right, *chuckle* my bad, I'll go get you replacements from the back."
"Uh, okay." Bell said.
Naaza still stood with her head down when the god arrived from the back room carrying three new potions a slight bit darker in shade than the last.
'Thank you Lord Miach, I appreciate your consideration."
"No problem." Miach said while maintaining one of the kindest smiles in all of the lower world.
Bell was about to turn towards the door after bowing to the two for their assistance. Until Bell had an idea.
"Um, Lord Miach, would you happen to know of a place that could teach me how to use weapons around here?"
Bell's question piqued his interest. "Perhaps, is there anything in particular you need help with Bell?"
"Yes." Bell pulled out the small compound bow from a holder he had attached between him and the backpack. "I just got this and haven't really used one before, so I was hoping to find someone that could."
Miach's eyes widened, Naaza's head finally lifted so she could eye the bow, it had been awhile since she'd used hers.
She piped up. "Perhaps I could help him learn Miach."
Both Bell and Miach looked at her.
"You know how to use a bow?" Bell asked.
"Yes, it was my main weapon back when I went into the dungeon."
Bell was curious, but ever excited. "Could you teach me?!"
"Oh, well, I wouldn't mind, but my duty is to my deity and his shop first."
Bell and Naaza looked at him, and he smiled gently. "That's alright with me, but you two should work out a time for it, preferably not during open hours, we're short handed as it is."
Both children smiled. One happy to be getting help from a senior adventurer, the other happy to try and make her actions up to her god.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
"I'm glad to hear Miach treated you so well, like I said he's one of the kindest gods out there."
"I couldn't agree more, goddess Hestia."
Bell Cranel was once again in the church basement, he was currently receiving a status update after his first full day in the dungeon.
"There, all done!" Hestia hopped off of Bell who was laying on the bed, handing him the sheet of paper as he sat up.

Bell didn't say anything as he looked, but was pleased nonetheless. However, his mind was on other things as his eyes scanned the paper. Time and time again, he reread the final line under magic. 'Dark matter.' Bell couldn't help but stare now.
'I've never been able to use it before, why did it show up with the others… I'll just have to test it some day, if it works as it should, then… maybe I could kill it…'
"Bell!"
He was brought back by the call of his goddess. Hestia was now sitting on the couch he had repaired before she arrived from getting groceries, sure the food won't last them more than four or five days, but Bell should be able to bring in more than enough to make up for himself.
.
They had made it through their first helpings of the beef and veggie stew, when a faint high pitch yelp was heard by Bell. Bell stopped dead while pouring Hestia's second bowl, his eyes landing square on the entrance way to their home.
"Did you hear that too?" Bell turned and saw his goddess also looking at the entrance.
"Yeah." Bell said, a moment later he stood up moving for the entrance, along the way grabbing the knife from his belt, which hung from the wall, just in case.
The moment Bell opened the door, he saw nothing but the church pews, hearing the faint pitter patter of rain which was leaking from the ceiling. Bell heard the cry again, but from straight down.
What he found was a small kitten with presumably its mother laying limp in front of the door.
Bell stood frozen for a moment.
Before he knelt down, setting the knife on the stone floor, and gently picked the kitten up.
Bell turned around and walked back down the stairs to his goddess.
"Goddess Hestia, a kitten."
She gasped, and quickly made her way over from the couch as she had been made too nervous seeing Bell taking his knife to get up.
Before he had even noticed, she had picked the small thing out of his arms. In less than a moment, she had become attached.
"Bell! Bell! Can we keep him?!" Hestia was glowing with happiness.
"Yes, goddess I don't mind." Bell responded.
"Hehe, what should we name it, something creative perhaps?" she asked.
Bell thought for a minute. "I think he's a Wegie, they were common around the forest, we had one for a pet when I was small, how about… Trjegul…"
Hestia looked bewilderedly to Bell, just in time for the kitten to yelp in seeming agreement with him.
"I guess he likes it then." Hestia said with slight surprise.
"Wait, he?"
"Uh, y-yeah, don't worry, I ch-ecked..." Hestia's face gained a dusting of pink.
"Oh." Bell said, not wanting to embarrass Hestia further.
As Hestia moved to the couch holding the kitten, of maybe four months, Bell opened a closet past the bed, grabbing one of the worn sheets. Hestia was too distracted to notice him as he went back upstairs.
.
He closed the door, leaving Hestia and Trjegul to themselves.
Bell gently wrapped the parent cat in the sheet, he had checked for a pulse, but there was none, he made quick work of burying it. It was laid to rest behind the church, where hestia would never find it.
He spoke a silent prayer as he filled in the grave, he would watch over the kitten in their stead, if only he had heard him sooner.
.
Bell spent the night playing with the cat as he and Hestia fawned over him, Trjegul, or 'Trje' as Hestia called him, was truly an adorable bundle of energy.
Bell couldn't help but make connections between him and his old cat, of whom Trje was named after. He looked almost identical, a light brown belly fading into light grey on his sides and back, covered in thin black stripes, topped off with a white chin.
Bell couldn't contain the grin which Trjegul gave him, and he loved every minute of it.
Especially when he came up from his food with a thick broth mustache on his lip.

A/N
Sorry if that ending was a little bit grim, that part was a last second addition, I hope it wasn't too much.
Wegie - a type of Norwegian cat, found both in the wild, and in homes. They are very fluffy and have a notable place in Norse mythology by pulling Freya's chariot.
Thank you all once again for giving me a place in your day, I really do appreciate it.
Look forward to the 'Fifth Floor Minotaur Incident' next chapter!
