A/N: Here is the next chapter for you all. Hope you enjoy it, let me know!

"Doctor! What happened, is she all right?" Martha asked, yanking open the front door the moment she saw the Doctor coming along with an unconscious Kari in his arms. There was worry etched all over her face, just as there was with the Doctor as well.

The Doctor stepped over the threshold, holding the limp body of Kari as close to him as he could. "She was right, something was wrong." He told Martha, taking the stairs two at a time to get her to their room.

"What was it? What actually happened?" Martha asked him, closing the front door and quickly following behind him. Her friend looked pale, and she couldn't help but want to look after her, it was her medical side breaking though, like it always seemed to do with Kari.

"Uh, the lights had gone out. The whole street was in darkness, not a single light anywhere." He told her, gently placing Kari down on the bed. "When I got to the bar, the Angels were there. She was standing there threatening two Angels." The Doctor told her, a small smile creeping onto his face as he pushed her hair back and away from her face.

Martha's mouth dropped open. "The Angels are here as well?" She asked him, now concerned about that as well.

He shook his head at her. "No, not anymore. Well, I don't think there are any more."

"What do you mean 'anymore'?" Martha asked him, sitting on the other side of the bed, glancing down at Kari.

"Ah, well, you see… Kari didn't only threaten them, she actually completely destroyed them." The Doctor told her, not really sure how he was going to explain to her that Kari managed to turn two Weeping Angels into nothing more than dust.

"Destroyed them? How? You said nothing could kill an Angel."

He rubbed his head slightly, still trying to work out in his head how to inform Martha of what had happened. "Okay, so you know Kari has some sort of connection to the time vortex? That's how she manages to jump through all of time and space." He said, getting a nod from Martha. "Right, well she basically offered them that energy, only she gave them more than they could handle. Turned them to dust."

Martha was still looking at him with wide eyes. She knew that Kari could do some pretty strange things, there was a lot about her that couldn't be explained, but that was something completely unexpected. "She turned them to dust?" He nodded at her, before turning his attention back to Kari. "But are you sure there aren't any more?"

"No, I done a quick scan. No more Angels in the area. Anyway, Kari needs to get some sleep, whenever she does something like that, it always exhausts her. She should be okay after a good nights sleep. I need to go back to the bar, see if anyone else was touched." The Doctor said, kissing Kari's forehead before standing up.

"You mean someone was sent back in time?" Clearly Martha hadn't expected that to happen either.

The Doctor let out a sigh. "Yeah, the people she worked with. I need to go and check, she was completely sure that one of them was taken, but she didn't know about the other two." He said, making his way out of the bedroom door and stepping out onto the landing. "Look after her while I'm gone, Martha."

"Of course I will, and you take care of yourself as well. Don't go getting touched by another Angel. You hear me?" Martha told him rather sternly. She wasn't happy with the fact that they had been sent back without a way back, without the TARDIS. Martha certainly wasn't going to be happy if he ended up being sent even further back in time, leaving her stranded in 1969 for even longer.

Kari's head was spinning wildly and she could something trying to work its way up from her stomach. She was trying to remember what had happened, but her mind was still clouded with a more than just a little fog.

"Hey, Kari? Are you okay?" A voice called to her softly, as she felt someone gently running their hand through her hair.

She let out a sigh groan as she forced her eyes open, which ended up being a big mistake. "I'm gonna be sick." she muttered, before throwing herself off the bed and charging into the bathroom. The moment she was in there, she dropped to the floor in front of the toilet and began heaving.

A moment later, the hair that kept falling over her face was pulled back from her eyes and held out of the way, while a hand gently rubbed her back. "You're all right, Kari, you're all right." She heard the Doctor telling her, as he continued to try to sooth her while she wretched some more.

"Oh, why do I feel so sick?" Kari managed to mumble as she finally got a break to breath, resting her head against her arm on the rim of the toilet bowl.

"It's just a side effect of what happened. You'll be fine soon enough, you've already had four days of rest." The Doctor told her, making her turn to face him sharply. "You fought against the Angels, you exhausted yourself."

She let out another groan as the sick feeling finally subsided and she rested herself back against the Doctor. "I don't remember. I remember going to work, Clara came rushing in because she was scared." Kari explained, trying her hardest to remember exactly what had happened. "There was a power cut, and I called you. Then… I can't remember any more."

The Doctor pulled her closer towards him, wrapping his arms around her tightly as they both sat on the bathroom floor. "The Angels came, they caused the power cut. You said they took her, and two other people, but you didn't tell me their names before you passed out. You ended up sleeping for the past four days, which clearly hasn't been enough." He told her, getting himself to his feet and dragging Kari with him. "You need to go back to bed."

"Did they take anyone else?" Kari asked him, making no attempt what so ever to move from where she was. She really couldn't remember what had happened, and she knew it should have bothered her, but she just wasn't really feeling up to worrying about much at that time. "I mean, who did they take apart from Clara? I don't…"

The Doctor let out a sigh and he wrapped his arms around her tighter, pulling her as close as he could to her. "Cherrie Flanders and Ken Stubbs. They were both touched by the same Angel, so probably sent back to the same time. At least they aren't completely alone."

That was all the confirmation that Kari needed for the tears that had been building to fall. "Cherries mum is ill, she was the only one who looked after her." She mumbled, remembering the conversation that the pair of them had.

"Don't worry about Dora, I've already checked on her. Everything is fine. She's patched things up with Cherries sister, Jane. She's going to be fine." The Doctor told her, giving her a little bit of reassurance that he was taking care of everything. "And you really do need to get back to bed now, Kari."

She turned her head and pouted at him a little. "But I've already slept for four days." She told him, giving him a pleading look. She was still feeling exhausted, but she didn't want to be there on her own.

"Yes, and clearly that wasn't long enough considering you were just sticking your head down the toilet." The Doctor replied, trying not to smirk at her. "No, you need to keep on resting." He told her, forcing her to get to her feet. "For at least the whole of today."

"But I need to go and get another job." Kari moaned as he dragged her from the bathroom and over to the bed. "It's really not fair on Martha to have to go to work to pay for the food and everything while I just to lay in bed and sleep the whole time."

The Doctor shook his head at her, making sure she got under the covers. "No, Kari. And that is the end of it. Martha is fine about this, she understands. In fact, she is ready to fight you on this. The moment you think you're going to go and get a job, she's going to stop you." He warned her.

"Well, me and Miss Jones are going to have a few words later when she gets home." Kari grumbled, not happy at all with everything being decided for her. "You can't stop me from getting a job. Neither of you can."

The Doctor just chuckled at her as he took off his trainers, before making himself comfortable on the bed beside her. "Oh, I'm sure Martha and I can come up with ways to stop you from getting a job. We could start by locking you in the house all the time." He warned her, opening his arms up and waiting for her to move over.

The moment she realised his arms were open, she shifted over and rested her head against him. "Yeah? You and Martha want to go find somewhere else to live? My house, my rules. If I want to work, then I will. You got that, mister?"

"Oh, yeah. Of course. What ever you say, madam 'my house, my rules'." He replied to her, twisting a lock of her hair around his finger. "Now be quiet and go back to sleep."

"Yes, Doctor. What ever you say, Doctor. You're the Doctor after all." Kari replied, making him roll his eyes at her a little. "You and Martha have been coping the past few days, haven't you?"

The Doctor let out a little sigh, he should have known it wouldn't be that easy to get her stop worrying. "Kari, we have been coping fine. There is nothing for you to worry about. Now please, get some more sleep. The sooner you go to sleep, the sooner you will be better."

He heard Kari let out a groan before she decided to reply to him. "Fine. Night, Doctor."

"Goodnight, Kari." He whispered, holding her just a little bit tighter and planting a kiss on the top of her head. He was glad to see that she was relatively okay, being her normal stubborn self. But he was still worried, because she had woken up, only to throw up. The Doctor knew that the Angels came with some pretty bad side effects, except that was when being touched by one. He didn't really know what side effects Kari was going to suffer, but he hoped that they would be over with soon.

The next time Kari woke up, it was dark outside and the Doctor was no longer beside her. She decided that since he wasn't actually there, she was going to finally get out of bed. Kari had to admit that she still didn't feel completely and utterly herself, but she didn't want to spend any more time in bed.

After a nice, long, hot bath, she pulled on come fresh pyjamas and carefully made her way down the stairs, trying her best not to make a sound. Kari knew that if the Doctor saw her up, he would just send her straight back to bed again.

"Oh, I wish this Billy bloke would hurry up." She heard Martha moan, as she got closer to the bottom of the stairs. "Working in that shop is so boring."

"Well, the device is finished, so all we can do is wait now." The Doctor replied.

"How's Kari doing now, anyway?"

She stopped at the mention of her name, wondering what the Doctor was going to say. "She's better. Much better, actually. So much better, in fact, that she is currently outside the door listening to us talking." His voice rose a little, just to make sure that Kari could hear him.

Kari sighed as she walked into the room, both the Doctor and Martha smiling at her. "Yeah, I'm up. Even took the time to have a bath and everything." She told them, before going and sitting next to the Doctor on the sofa. "And don't either of you dare tell me to go back to bed. I'm sick of being in bed."

"Good, you needed to get up. Time for dinner." The Doctor told her, before jumping off the sofa. "I'll pop out and grab us a take away. How does that sound?"

Kari just frowned at him. "What's wrong with the food that is in the kitchen? Getting take away if going to be more expensive, wasting money that we haven't got." She told him, wondering why he was even considering going out to get food. Kari knew him well enough to know when he was up to something, no matter what regeneration he was in, and she was getting the suspicion that he was up to something.

"Well, my cooking isn't really all that great." The Doctor admitted, grabbing his long brown coat. "Martha has been working all day earning money and should take some time to relax. And you, my brilliant, beautiful Kari, still need to take it easy." He told her, before kissing the top of her head. "Won't be long." He called, before heading out of the door.

The moment he was gone, Kari turned to Martha. "Okay, what's he up to?" She asked her friend, hoping that she was going to get an honest answer.

"I have absolutely no idea." Martha admitted, the look on her face telling Kari she was telling the truth. "I did offer to cook, I don't mind cooking. But the Doctor just insisted that no one was going to be cooking tonight and that we all deserved to have a special treat. So if he is up to something, I really don't know what it is."

Kari just smiled over at her friend. "Fair enough. I'm going to make a cuppa, do you want one?" She asked, pushing herself up and off the sofa.

"Yeah, go on then." Martha replied, getting herself up and following Kari into the kitchen. "So, are you really feeling okay now? I was so worried when the Doctor came rushing back carrying you."

"I'm fine, Martha. There's a lot that I can't remember, but I'm not even trying to think about it at the moment. Worrying about it right now isn't going to help us, right?" Kari told her, flicking on the kettle and tossing the teabags into the mugs. "And I'm sorry that you now have to work for all of us."

Martha took a step closer towards her friend and rested a hand on her arm. "Kari, don't worry about it. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't be staying in this amazing house. We would have had to find somewhere to live, and pay a fortune for that as well."

Kari smiled at her a little. "Still doesn't feel right to me. I heard you saying how you don't exactly like that job in the café that much."

"Now, I never said that. I said that it was boring, not that I didn't like it. Some days are busy, some days are quiet." Martha corrected. "We've been here for a week already, and we still have no idea when Billy is going to show up."

A sigh slipped past Kari's lips as she poured the boiling water into the mugs. "I know, and the Doctor hates waiting. He's getting bored, I know he is. He isn't very good at sitting still, or at being domestic."

Martha just laughed at her words a little, knowing that all of it was true. "Yeah, he never has been one for staying in one place for too long." She confirmed, before a noise from the living room grabbed both of their attentions.

"Uh, I better get that. Probably just the Doctor." Kari said, before rushing to the other room and grabbing her phone. To her surprise, it wasn't the Doctor who was calling her. "Captain Harkness, what a surprise."

"Kari, oh thank God you're okay." Jack said, letting out a sigh of relief. "You are okay, right?"

Kari could hear the worry in his voice, and she knew something was wrong, wherever he was. "Jack, I'm fine, everything is fine. What… what's happened?" She asked him nervously.

"Kari, where are you? Are you with the Doctor at all?" Yes, he was definitely worried, and Kari just wanted to know why.

"He's out getting food at the moment, so you better tell me what the hell is going on Harkness." She demanded, starting to get a little freaked out herself.

"Just tell me where you are, Princess." Jack asked her, doing his best to stay calm and act a bit more natural.

"1969, 10th regeneration, you know, the suit and the converses. Really great hair and totally sexy." She told him. "Currently in the living room of 32 Bricker Lane, if that's any help."

She heard him let out another sigh of relief. "Okay, you're fine, you're safe. Nothing to worry about. Tell the Doctor I said hi." Jack called, before quickly ending the call and leaving Kari to listen to the dial tone.

"What the hell was that all about?" Kari mumbled to herself as she headed back into the kitchen, still looking at her phone, wishing Jack would call her back and explain what the hell was going on.

"Kari? Is everything all right?" Martha asked her, as she sat down at the breakfast bar, her eyes still locked on her phone.

"I… I don't know. My brother just called and… I don't know, something was wrong. He was freaked, needed to know that I was safe, that I was okay." Her mind was racing, trying to work out what had happened and why he had been so worried. "Something's wrong, I just know it is."

A moment later, the Doctor walked through the door, a plastic bag full of take out containers. "Right, well I hope you two are hungry. I couldn't decide on what to get, so I just…" He trailed off the moment he saw the way Kari was glancing at him and then her phone. "Kari, what's happened?" He asked, instantly dropping the bags.

"Uh, nothing, just… my brother called." She told him turning her phone over and over in her hand now as she looked at him. "Something was wrong, he was… I don't know, panicking over something. Something's going on."

The Doctor was quick to wrap his arms around her. "Come on, you know what he is like. I'm sure everything is fine. He likes to check up on you, that's all it is and you know it." He said, trying to reassure her and get her to calm down a little.

Kari managed to shake her head against the Doctor's chest. "No, this was serious, I mean really, properly serious. Jack doesn't freak out like that over nothing." She said, forgetting that she didn't want to ever say his name in from of Martha until she had actual met him.

"Okay, give me your phone." He said, holding his hand out, waiting for her to give it to him. The moment she did, he pulled out his sonic screwdriver, aimed it at her phone, and then put it to his ear. "Jack, what's going on?" The Doctor said to him. "No, no, no, don't you give me that. What the hell is going on?" He repeated, only a little more firmly. Kari just stood there watching, as did Martha, when suddenly the Doctor's face fell a little. "Yes, fine. Okay." The moment he ended the call, the phone was back in Kari's hand.

"So?" She asked him, looking at him and just waiting for an explanation. "What did he say?"

The Doctor let out a sigh before looking at her again. "Okay, everything is fine. He just had a bit of a panic because of something that happened, or will happen."

"I think the word you're looking for is 'spoiler', Doctor." Kari said, letting her shoulders sag a little. She should have known that it was going to be something like that, but she just didn't want to believe it. "Anyway, come on. Dinner is getting cold. What did you get us all anyway?" She said, picking up the bags and placing them on the counter.

Martha and the Doctor shared a look behind her back. They both knew what she was doing, she was trying to find a distraction, anything to get her mind off the worry from the phone call. "I thought Chinese would be nice." The Doctor told her, coming over to help her get everything out.

She quickly brushed him away. "I can manage. Look, you and Martha go sit in the living room. I'll bring the plates and food in and we can eat in there tonight. More comfortable than sitting at the table." Kari said, moving around the kitchen and getting everything she wanted.

The pair left her alone, but both worrying about her. A few minutes later, Kari was carrying everything into the living room, still insisting that she didn't need any help. After that, they ate in silence, while she hardly ate anything at all. It was worrying for both the Doctor and Martha, considering she had been sleeping for a little over four days, and now she wasn't eating. Neither of them really knew what to do, because they could tell she didn't want to talk about it.

Kari kept herself busy by doing all the washing up after dinner, and insisting on taking the rubbish out as well. After that that she got set about cleaning the rest of the kitchen, and the living room, and then the dining room. It was as she was cleaning the bathroom attached to her room that the Doctor finally stopped her.

"Kari, come on. You need to calm down and relax now." The Doctor told her, taking her by the hands and forcing her to stop scrubbing the bath.

"I am calm, and I am relaxed." Kari replied, trying to tug her hands away, only for him to grab them even closer. "Doctor, I'm fine, let me go, please."

All he could do was shake his head at her. "No, I'm not letting you go, Kari. You have not stopped cleaning, just one of the many signs that I know something is wrong. Now come on, leave the bathroom alone. It's not going anywhere so you can clean it tomorrow if you want to." He told her, having to drag her out and into the bedroom.

The Doctor sat her on the bed, still grasping a hold of her hands. "You and Jack are keeping things from me. I'm not stupid, Doctor, I know something is going on." Kari told him, her eyes fixed on the carpet beneath her feet. "Why are you keeping things from me? Again."

"Kari, we're not keeping things from you. Look at me and listen." He said, putting his hand under her chin and forcing her to look at him. "Whatever is going on with Jack, is going on in the future. You have nothing to worry about. He was calling you because he was worried about you, he hadn't heard from you for a while."

"Stop. Lying. To me." She ground out through her clenched teeth. "I thought we were past all of this. All the secrets and the lies, so why are you lying to me?"

Kari could see that her words had really hit the Doctor hard, and his mind was turning it all over. "You're right. I'm sorry." He finally said, caving in and letting out a sigh. "Jack's been calling you constantly for hours. Now we all know that you always answer your phone, but for these hours, you weren't, so obviously he was worried." The Doctor explained to her. "When you answered, it was because the call had ended up going through to a different point in time. He was trying to contact you in the future, not you now. He honestly was just worried about you."

"And the rest." Kari demanded, giving him a very firm look.

All the Doctor could do was shake his head, he had told her as much as he could. "Spoilers. But trust me, everything will be fine."

She ended up sighing and giving in, knowing that he wasn't going to tell her anything else no matter how hard she pushed. Really, she didn't have the energy left to fight with him about it all. Kari was freaked out and worried, causing her mind to keep trying to work everything out, even though she knew that wasn't going to happen.

"Why is it always the really important things that you're good at keeping from me?" She mumbled, grumpily folding her arms across her chest. "You let things slip all the time, but when I want to know something, you keep it from me."

"Oh, I've learnt my lesson from all those times that I've slipped up." The Doctor told her with a slight chuckle. "You need to stop worrying so much, Kari. Soon enough Billy will be here, we will get the TARDIS back, and everything will be back to normal."

"Hmm, yeah, because living in a box that is bigger on the inside that flies through time and space is normal, isn't it?" Kari questioned, giving him a little nudge just to let him know that she wasn't being that serious.

He smiled at her. "For us, yes. Now come on, let's go and find something to do." Kari didn't resist as the Doctor once again took hold of both her hands and pulled her up from the bed. "And not something that involves cleaning."

"Up to the library then, I guess." She grumbled, letting him lead her out of the room.

"Actually, I had something different in mind." He told her, before pretty much dragging her down the stairs, grabbing their coats from by the front door, and taking her through the house and to the back garden.

Kari just looked up at him as he handed her coat to her. "Isn't a bit cold and late to be doing a bit of gardening."

"Ah, but we're not going to be doing a little bit of gardening." The Doctor told her, taking her coat back from her again and holding it open for her, waiting for her to put it on now that he had his long brown coat on. "It's going to be something you're going to like, I hope."

She gave up and let the Doctor help her with her coat. She had no idea what he had planned, but then again, she never really knew what was going on inside of his head. "Well, come on then. Let's get this over with, Doctor."

A smile crept across his face as he unlocked the door that led to the back garden. "Okay, now close your eyes." He demanded, causing her to let out a sigh. "And no peeking." Kari closed her eyes and stood there waiting, her arms folded across her chest just to prove that she was not exactly happy.

The Doctor placed a hand over her eyes and took hold of her other hand before he led her out into the garden. After a few more steps, they stopped. "Right, you can open your eyes now." He told her, moving his hand and letting her open her eyes.

Kari's mouth dropped open when she saw what had been done out in her garden. The wooden furniture had all been moved away from the patio and into the centre of garden. Twinkling lights had been put up everywhere, and there were candles alight on the table, illuminating the bottle of wine that was sitting there. Upon the grass was a selection of rather large cushions, ones that Kari couldn't remember seeing before.

"When did you do all this?" Kari breathed, still taking it all in.

"When you were having a bit of a breakdown by cleaning anything and everything. I thought you might light to just relax, and look up at the sky." The Doctor told her, waiting to see if she actually liked what he had done. He knew he needed to do something to cheer her up, and without having to out and buy her something. The Doctor knew that she much preferred little surprises like he was giving her now.

"I love it. Thank you, Doctor." She whispered to him, throwing her arms around his neck and holding on tightly. "You always know how to make me smile and how to surprise me."

The Doctor couldn't help but chuckle a little. "Well of course I do. Now come on, let's sit down and just relax." He said, making her release her grip and walk towards the table. Kari had to admit that she was surprised, and what the Doctor had done for her had really cheered her up. Her mind had been too focused on what had happened to Clara and the others from the bar. Too worried about what was going on with Jack and why he was so panicked. But now, she didn't have to worry about that, because she was with her Doctor, and she was happy.
