I sat on the plane, a private jet of sorts, next to Edward and nervously chewing my lip as I stuffed my hands between my thighs. I couldn't stop the anxiety welling up in my chest, tightening it and cutting my breath short which did anything but compliment the rapid bouncing of my leg. I found it impossible to have any composure.
I found myself staring out the small window just behind me, the seats weren't even facing the way they do on a normal plane. They had the backs of the seats against the windows, almost like couches. In fact, the whole jet felt more like I was on some kind of cruise liner than over seven miles in the air.
While I continued to fiddle with my fingers and anxiously staring out the window, Edward pulled out several sheets of paper and a couple of textbooks.
Giving him a raised eyebrow I stopped chewing my bottom lip long enough to ask him "What are those for?"
"Finals." Was all he said which just confused me more. So in order to clear confusion he clarified, "We'll be studying for the finals while on this trip, I refuse to allow you to fall behind. You deserve to graduate with the rest of the class."
I nodded a bit, accepting the papers and pencil. He opened the textbook for the papers and began to silently read the specific section. I looked down at the paper and nearly groaned.
"Science…" I rubbed my forehead. "I suck at science…"
"You always get an A in that class though." Edward raised his head to give me a confused look.
"Yeah, cuz I study the shit out of it, but for some stupid reason the information I learn never sticks like Math or English does." I sighed leaning back, resting my head against the back of the seat. A long exhale escaped my lips and I glared down at the science work. I always thought science should be easy, especially high school science. Guess not!
"Have you tried writing it all out?" He asked, although I think it's to be polite because he knows the answer to that.
"Of course I did!" I sat up straight, giving him a blank stare. "Honestly, I have to study really hard before tests, the night before and part of the morning in order to get a 90. If it's not crammed immediately before it'll never be in there long enough for the test!"
He nodded, noticing the tight grip I had on the paper, so tight it nearly tore it in two. He reached over and gently pried my fingers off so he could take the paper from me. "Focus on math for now."
After two hours worth of studying I rubbed my eyes and leaned back in my seat. "My eyes hurt." I grumbled softly, I had finished the Math and English and was halfway through history when I realized I was actually feeling pretty fucking tired.
Edward reached over and took the papers from me, giving me a gentle smile. "Take a nap. We have a long flight ahead of us, best we don't land with you exhausted."
I gave him a grateful smile, laying down on the seat and resting my head on his lap seeing as there are no pillows here. Probably because the owners of this plane had no need for sleep. Even though he had jeans on, I could feel the coolness of his skin against my cheek. It wasn't uncomfortable, it felt like an ice pack wrapped in a towel, just enough to feel good on this warm flight.
I feel Edward shift around and he then draped his jacket over my torso. I heard him hum in satisfaction, resting his hand on my shoulder as I laid on my side. My face was pressed into his stomach as I took in his comforting scent, feeling my body actually relax enough to fall asleep. The last thing I felt was Edward repositioning my head to be a little further away from his torso.
It must have been at least 4 hours later. I haven't moved from the position I fell asleep in, as upon opening my eyes all I saw was the fabric of Edward's shirt. I blinked tiredly, trying to rid the sleep from my eyes without rubbing them. "Man. I forgot why I only try to take half hour naps." I sat up slowly, looking at Edward who was putting away the book he had been reading while I slept.
"Can you see my dreams?" I blurted out, the dream I had was a normal one. Walking through a field of flowers or something like that… That is an interesting trend with the books if I recall correctly. I snap out of that thought while twisting my wrist in a circular motion. Sleeping like that made it fall asleep and now I have pins and needles.
He gave me a raised brow, as though asking me "What do you think?" with a teasing smirk on his face.
"Well." I started. "It's not actual thinking, but it is dreaming, like my brain controls it…" I frowned, still struggling to fully wake up.
He snorted in response and scooted away so he and I were face to face, refraining from answering my question. "We need to come up with a plan in case we get separated."
I nodded in reply, pursing my lips in thought. "We also need a plan in case they separate us…" I looked up at him and saw a forced smile on his face. I knew he hated the Volturi as much as I do, but good god the fanfiction I read in my past life.
I snorted loudly in amusement, a fierce blush spreading like wildfire. Oh man... The fanfiction I've read. Weird how everything out of my former life, that is what stuck to me the strongest.
Edward looked at me with amusement. "Let's get serious here."
I nodded quickly, forcing the thoughts and embarrassment to the back of my mind to deal with later.
We talked about this for hours, if we got separated, we were to meet at the cafe nearest to the hotel we were staying at. If they separated us, we were to remain calm and just do as they say unless it's joining them. Aro luckily gives people a choice. Since I'm human I have to be careful if they get a hold of me, to not agree to anything Aro says. We were already planning on having me be turned (For obvious reasons, Volturi for one, and death is the only other option), but after graduation, and after I travel as a human for a few years.
I was pretty adamant on living my life to the fullest before I got turned, I want to try new foods and travel and enjoy life until my 21st birthday. Plus, unlike Edward's case, I want to be turned with my brain fully developed and not stuck in the middle of hormone capital that is teenagedum.
"It's not that bad," Edward had the nerve to pout, but it clashed heavily with his sculpted face.
I raised a brow at him, frowning a bit. "You're the moodiest person I know." I replied, my tone a bit cold, not in a mean way, but in a way a teen normally speaks to sound cool… and failing miserably at. I crossed my arms as he frowned as well, opening his mouth to retort. "You literally sit there and pout if you're stuck doing something you don't want to." I smirked a bit at him as I leaned against the back of the couch.
That's how the rest of our conversations went for the final 6 hours of the flight, just occasional back and forth teasing mixed in with casual conversation.
When the plane landed, I stretched my entire body almost backwards, cracking my back in the process as we got off the plane. "This… looks pretty exclusive…" I looked around, noticing there was literally no one there.
"Probably their own private airport." Edward commented, coming up behind me, holding our carry-on bags. I took the bags and Edward guided me to the luggage pick-up, a hand resting on the small of my back and I could feel him constantly looking around. If it wasn't for the fact that Edward is a walking mind beacon I would have gotten nervous.
When we left the airport a car was waiting for us, which was another factor to mark under creepy.
"Well, can't get much creepier…" I mumbled as he put our bags in the trunk and we climbed into the back seat together.
"You never know, this is Aro we're talking about." Edward muttered in reply.
A shiver went down my spine. "You're right…"
"I'm always right." He replied, wisely avoiding eye contact as he looked out the window, completely missing my glare. He rested a hand on my thigh comfortably, giving my leg a very gentle squeeze, a reminder that he's here for me.
When we got to our hotel, we were given our room key. When we got to our room, on the dresser was a bunch of tickets to a bunch of different shows that were planned for this week. I found it a little creepy that they have our entire vacation planned out, but at the same time… as long as Edward was with me I don't mind them giving us something to do.
Edward went around the room, checking closets and the bathroom and even under the bed. That's right, bed. As in singular, since I'm the only one who needs sleep we got a single bed room.
"It's not like you couldn't smell or hear them if someone was hiding in this room." I snorted, setting my carrying-on bag onto the bed, opening it up and pulling out my blanket and throwing it onto the pillows. "Might as well use the tickets they so graciously gifted us..." I went over and picked them up. There were 16 of them 2 of each for 8 different shows.
I felt drowsy as I looked at the tickets, a few were for Opera, a few for a couple movies made by Italian directors and then there were some for a festival in a town only a 20 minute drive away that I had no idea even existed.
"Go to sleep, we can do all that stuff later this week. We need to make sure you don't get jet lagged." Edward took the tickets from me gently and guided me to the bed.
"Alright… whatever you say, boss." I yawned out as I crawled onto the bed, taking my blanket and hugging it close to my body as I promptly fell asleep. Flying is tiring.
Next thing I knew, it was evening the next day, Edward was perched at the window, his gaze locked on the people moving outside.
"I slept a long time… damn..." I looked at the clock. "It's already 6 pm? The sun is going down!" I looked out at the setting sun, the sky painted with hues of orange and red.
"Get ready, dress nicely." Edward smiled, getting up from the window.
I gave him a confused look before doing as told. I went and took a shower, dressing in a simple white blouse with cute short flowy, sheer sleeves and a long black skirt. I slipped on white socks before putting on my short black heeled boots.
I ran a brush through my hair before looking at Edward. "Where are we going?"
He held up two tickets for an opera. "We're going here." He grinned.
"I've never been to an opera." I smiled sheepishly in response. "I've heard good things about it though…"
"You'll enjoy it." He reassured me. Edward walked behind me and took up my hair, twisting and tying it until a neat bun rested against the crown of my head. "You don't need to understand what is said, just let the music rumble through you."
And he was right. I did enjoy it. We went to a restaurant afterwards and then on a late night walk. All the whilst I noticed people in hoodies were hanging around way too close to us. Edward wouldn't let me focus too much on them and instead did everything he could to distract me. For now, I'll just pretend they are pickpockets and just enjoy my time with my boyfriend. He certainly helped beat the heat being a walking iceberg.
Overall, my first day in Italy was actually pretty fun.
