Well, the previous day had been... Eventful.
Blossom had gone with Brick to pick up some groceries after they'd left the park, like they'd always planned to, and as if nothing had just happened between them.
Of course Blossom couldn't stop smiling at him and there were a few times when he'd caught her eyes lingering, which made it kind of impossible for Brick to hold his own smile back.
But the comment from Boomer seemed to have faded in importance. She had probably just overreacted, letting it get to her like she had. So she'd asked Brick what his brother's favorite meal was and bought the ingredients as an apology.
Her day wasn't going anything like she'd thought it would.
Boomer had spent the previous night locked in his room, listening to loud music and daring anyone to disturb him. When she realized he probably wasn't going to come out for dinner, she whipped something else up and saved her apology meal.
She thought that after a night, with plenty of time to cool off, because honestly, how much time did he need? That all would be forgotten. It's not like she had done anything that horrible. From any angle that she looked at the situation, which she had replayed in her mind probably a hundred times, she couldn't figure out why he was upset. She understood that he didn't like her input, maybe it came across as judgier than she meant.. But it was a simple mistake, and one that seemed completely unworthy of having been made into an issue at all. She wouldn't comment on his choices anymore.
But why were things still so awkward between them?
Boomer woke up that day and immediately left the house, staying gone until the late afternoon, so she hadn't had much interaction with him.
He sat on the opposite couch from her, with his nose in his phone. His two brothers were engrossed in a movie, which Blossom was only half paying attention to. She was busy thinking of ways to mend things with the blonde ruff. He wasn't being mean to her, and he wasn't outright ignoring her either, he was almost.. indifferent to her being there at all. Which somehow felt way worse than the other two options. If Butch and Boomer noticed the change, they hadn't commented on it.
Aside from all the non drama with Boomer, her and Brick were also in a strange place.
They hadn't talked about what happened between them and more noticeably.. they hadn't kissed again. All day. She removed her eyes from the tv screen, which she hadn't even realized she was staring at, completely lost in thought.. and checked the time on her phone. It had been nearly 24 hours since she kissed him at the park. The mood wasn't weird between them or anything. He wasn't avoiding her, but he wasn't making any attempt to be closer to her either, which she couldn't help noticing.
She felt a sharp pain in her chest at the thought that he might regret it. It's not like she had asked him or given him any warning beforehand. She just acted on impulse.
Blossom glanced over at Brick, who was oblivious to her gaze, and desperately wondered what went on in his head. What was he thinking?
It felt like he had been kind of flirty with her lately and she thought she had dropped a few hints too, but now she didn't know.. Maybe she had misinterpreted their back and forth. He had definitely kissed her back though. That's the part that stumped her. If he didn't like her then why didn't he pull away?
Ugh. All the overthinking was stressing her out. She needed a break.. And it was about time to start dinner anyway.
Right on cue, she heard a loud growl from Butch's stomach. The three boys started. Laughing. "What can I say, I haven't had a single thing to eat since lunch." Butch patted his stomach, convinced that he was beginning to wither away.
"You ate like half a bag of chips an hour ago." Brick scoffed.
"Didn't you make a hot pocket too?" Boomer accused
"Oh yeah."
Blossom rolled her eyes. Listening to the boys bicker made her feel at ease, like everything was normal again. "I was just about to start dinner." She said, standing. "But it'll be a while, so.. you might need another snack." She laughed.
Brick perked up at the mention of dinner. He already knew what she was planning on making and he was more excited than he'd been in a really long time. Butch and Boomer were in for a real treat. Then again, so was he.
"Isn't it kind of early?" Butch asked curiously. It was barely 5pm and they always had dinner around 9. Kind of late, but they were all night owls.
"She said it was gonna be a while." Brick reminded him.
Apparently, Brick didn't know what Boomer's favorite food was. But he did tell her that he always talked about wanting to try a real holiday meal. Blossom obviously couldn't remember any of her own holiday traditions, but she remembered seeing some photos on her old Instajam profile. So while her and Brick were at the store last night, she went through the photos again, screenshotting the meals that she had previously posted during the holidays. It was a more expensive meal, and it would be time consuming, but it would be well worth it. And honestly she was looking forward to cooking things she had never made before.. or at least, that she could remember making.
Since it was the middle of summer, and she knew their time together wouldn't last long enough to make it to the next big holiday, there was really no better time than tonight. The original idea, to show Boomer she was sorry, was still there, but it was about more than that now. Brick, Boomer and Butch never had the opportunity to celebrate a loving holiday with their family. They had no family, besides each other. And since she lost her memory, it was kind of like they'd all be experiencing it for the first time, together.
Turkey was out, because she couldn't even find one at the store this time of year. So ham it was. That was the main reason she had to start cooking so early. Her Pinterest saved recipes showed that the ham would take nearly three hours. Her only concern was if the boys would be able to last that long with the smell. Brick was the only one who knew about the special meal, but the others would find out soon enough. She wished it could have been a surprise, for all of them, but they were bound to start asking questions and snooping around sooner or later.
She hadn't actually thought about pans or baking dishes, but was thankful that for some reason, they had everything she needed.
After covering the ham with pineapple rings and maraschino cherries, she basted it with the leftover pineapple juice and brown sugar, covered it and stuck it in the oven. At least the aluminum foil would prevent prying eyes.
Nothing else would take nearly as long as the meat, but she got started prepping, to save time later. She cut up blocks of cheese for the baked macaroni and peeled and diced an absurd number of potatoes, mixed the filling for deviled eggs, etc. She wasn't so sure about the deviled egg bit, but her boys loved eggs, so she'd make them anyway.
With all that out of the way, she had time to relax before she needed to do anything else.
Blossom was back in the kitchen, getting ready to put the macaroni in the oven, since it took the second longest time. Boomer had disappeared into his closed room a while before. Butch had been told to stay out of the kitchen, so he whined from the couch about how good the food smelled and inquired about what it was and how much time was left, often.
Brick had not been asked to stay out, so while Butch wasn't paying attention, he snuck into the kitchen.
His mind had been racing all last night and all today. His kiss with Blossom was impossible to ignore, and had been looping through his head nonstop. He didn't know if she would want his brothers finding out, so he had controlled himself all day. But he was at his limit. And her outfit wasn't helping.
"Can I help you?" Her lips pulled into a teasing smile, as she sat down her mixing spoon and turned to face him.
"Yeah, you could help me with a lot of things." He smirked, unable to contain the flirtatious glint in his eye.
Her eyes widened slightly and so did her smile. He could still hear his brother in the other room, and realizing that they were completely alone.. Brick closed the distance between them, finding her soft lips with his. She let out a faint breath as he pushed her back against the fridge, hands gripping her hips firmly, before moving slowly to her waist.
All of Blossom's previous fears were forgotten and replaced by Brick's lips and then his tongue. And.. wow he was an amazing kisser. Just as she began running her hands up the back of his neck and through his hair, a very annoying, very unappreciated beeping interrupted her.
Time to baste the ham again. Shit.
There was still about an hour before dinner would be ready, so Brick took the opportunity to shower. It was a special night after all, and he wanted to look his best. Not only because they were about to have a once in a lifetime feast, but because of who was preparing that feast..
Blossom.
She looked so cute, walking around the house in her pink ruffled apron..
No.. "cute" wasn't the right word.
He started the shower, before stripping off his clothes and getting in. The water was hot, but not as hot as the thoughts running through his mind. All of which involved Blossom. Maybe some of them also involved her in that apron.. and maybe she didn't have anything on under said apron. Those details were his and his alone. The water was too hot, it was doing nothing to help his growing arousal. A cold shower… that's what he needed. He turned the water down, but no matter how cold it got, it wasn't helping. His own body temperature was keeping itself regulated, due to his fire elemental. Well, fuck.
Only one other option then…
"Where's Boomer? Food is almost done." Brick plopped back onto the couch after his shower, feeling very relieved.
"He's an idiot. Maybe his nose is stuffed up or some shit." Butch frowned, annoyed. "The smell in here is making me fucking crazy, but that little shit left."
"What the fuck!" Brick shot back up. "Where'd he go?"
"He said he already had plans."
The look on Blossom's face when she walked into the living room and caught the end of their conversation, was enough to make his heart break.
It was the best meal any of them had ever eaten. Hands down. Butch went back for seconds and thirds. Brick definitely has his fair share too. These boys were bottomless pits. Good thing she made enough food to feed an army. Blossom didn't eat very much, having lost most of her appetite… But what she did eat, she was very happy with.
There was something clearly missing, without Boomer. But overall they still had an unforgettable meal, with Butch moaning through nearly every bite and Brick sending secret little smiles and winks Blossom's way. She couldn't have stayed sad if she wanted to.
Plus they still had pie.
Brick had sent multiple texts, trying to get Boomer to come back home, with no luck. But it was just a meal, not even on a real holiday, it wasn't the end of the world.
There was still plenty of food left over, because seriously, she may have made enough to feed an army. She made Boomer a plate with everything on it and left it on the top rack, before putting the rest of the leftovers away in separate storage containers.
At least he would still be able to have something.
End Day 12
Thanks for reading, if anyones even reading this lol
Are we mad at Boomer or sad for him?
Ps. FF pisses me off sometimes. The formatting on here is weird and It won't let me delete the extra spaces between some of the tabs. Sorry the double tabs at random points.
