Plot

The Underground City; Arkawa

The Underground City, Arkawa, Arkawa takes place in a semi-apocalyptical fantasy world set fully based on survival and dangers with the small build up of two characters (OCs) forced to survive and discovering meanings and disasters befolded on earth, seems it isn't just the undead they need to worry about.

After an breakout of an illness that embarked on earth, resulting into people becoming infected and turning into unknown mysterious creatures and those who die return from the dead known as Zomu's aka the undead in the year 3019, millions, if not, billions of people were forced to evacuate to a discovered underground city fully set for an occasion such as this to happen so humanity can continue to thrive and survive. Only allowing a few million to enter the city as it became full, resulting in leaving billions on the surface, forced to survive and left to die.

The Underground City became quickly known as Arkawa, and was very well known but also having the people who lived there over the 11 years that passed of surviving had become very hated. Clans and gangs were formed on the surface from multiple survivors, resulting into working together and even raiding one another, of course there were most clans larger than others, also struggling to survive with the dangers that lurked around on the surface of earth.

Arkawa was sealed off for 11 whole years, no way in or out other than the source of the magical crystals that inhabited around the city providing life and magic that only a found ruler well known as the king possessed.

Chapter 1: The Underground City, Arkawa

It was the year 3030, 11 years had passed since an apocolyptical plague broke out on earth and forced millions of people to evacuate into an unknown underground city that was discovered and abandoned a few months before the break out.

A man was marked as king as this underground city was named, Arkawa. It became well known throughout the world as the men who allowed millions to evacuate into had to disembark on taking in anymore, sealing the entrances now only having the only way in and out was the magical crystal source that provided life in the city that hung above.

A sudden burst of light emitted from the crystal once the entrances were sealed by it's magic, wiping the memories of the apocolypictal incident occurring of having to leave and abandon millions if not, billions of other people, left to die on the surface.

The millions of people that were within Arkawa, had been memory replaced and believed to have been born and raised with the city all their lives because of the actions of the now found king.

Knowledge of the surface world could not be lied too or hidden about, so the king resulted into saying the surface was extremely dangerous and life threatening, non-survivable, people immediately listened and believed their king.

"Kayla!" A young man shouted, a young girl immediately reacted to the shout, shooting her head around over her shoulder with slight curiosity. "What are you doing out here in the middle of the night?" He questioned her as he walked up, causing her to stand up sadly as he quickly realized why.

Kayla was feeding a stray cat as the man's shout had spooked it, causing it to run back into the small dark alleyway. "Been seeing that cat often, felt bad and it was hungry." Kayla remarked as she watched it dart up the ladders of a building and onto the roof.

"Aren't your parents worried? Got work in the morning now that you've taken over their medical career." He stated only to have Kayla turn around and look at him with a small smile.

Kayla was an almost professional doctor and had just recently taken over her parents job, leaving her in charge now of the small and well rated clinic within the city of Arkawa. All the people who have visited her clinic always seemed to enjoy it and were well recommended despite people disliking the fact of having to go to the doctors at times.

Kayla seemed to bring joy and happiness to people and she treated her patients just as equally and with full kindness and respect, knowing full well everyone is unique in their own way, so Kayla was very well respected by the people.

The young man only chuckled lightly, leaving young Kayla's smile to fade and her expression turned into a confused one. "You need a boyfriend." He remarked with a smile as he turned and waved her off, only leaving her more dumbfounded.

Sure, she was 22 and most people her age already had boyfriends, especially during school. Though she never really was fond of it or took interest in it, she always had her head more into medical books than men, and she rather it stayed that way, so she shrugged his words off and returned home.

Kayla gently closed the front door and slipped her shoes off silently, her parents were asleep at this time and it was the best time to wander out and explore most of the time. Kayla's parents were more so assistants now as they retired at their now found old age, though they always still chose to help her and correct any mistakes that would occur which hadn't yet.

It's only been a month since she took over her parents job, and Kayla, including her parents had only treated mostly illnesses and nothing else due to the people of Arkawa being well protected by the city's crystals. All the people within Arkawa were marked with the city's symbol somewhere on their body and wore a necklace with that exact same symbol with the crystals embedded in it, never taking it off.

Kayla took her coat off and tossed it on the edge of her bed, immediately crawling under the covers and curling up slightly with a small sigh. She glanced at her books that laid on the ground near her closet door, remembering rumors about the surface having something called a sky and during the night it had something else called stars within said sky, though it was hard to believe as she only knew the crystals light during the night and day throughout the city at all times.

Being a doctor, she knew full well of all medical knowledge despite just treating illnesses, never having the chance to treat actual wounds, let alone see the red substance called blood due to the crystals magical power protecting and healing such injuries instantly, leaving Kayla somewhat disappointed.

Most wondered how it was well known to be morning or night, and it was primarily due to the human body's instincts of needing sleep, and of course already having clocks and the times around.

"Kayla! Get up, work time!" A voice shouted, immediately having Kayla dart her eyes open in surprise. It was morning already, and work time seemed due to the fact her father had to wake her up considering she slept through her alarm again it seemed.

"Were you up all night again studying?" Kayla's mother questioned her as she walked into her room with a plate of breakfast and a small smile on her face. Kayla sat up and rubbed her eyes as her mother sat on the bed next to her and handed her the food that she accepted, "Sorta…" She lied with a small yawn.

Her mother only sighed with the small smile on her face still, "I know you wander and sneak out during the middle of the night dear." Kayla almost choked on the piece of bacon she swallowed and lowered her head innocently, "I am not mad, you're an adult. Get ready for work." Her mother stated, standing up and leaving the room.

Kayla finished her breakfast quickly, she loved her mother a lot as she was the one to mostly understand her all the time and aid her during stressful and difficult times.

She quickly got dressed, now having food in her stomach making her feel more lively and less tired, throwing her clinic robe and scarf on lastly. Her parents were already dressed and already had their breakfast like always, and were all set and ready to go.

"Good morning Kayla!" A clinic nurse said as Kayla and her parents passed, they had arrived and just walked into the clinic after leaving home, Kayla only smiled and waved as she was still somewhat tired and continued to her office as well as her parents who had their own.

The whole day had mostly just been check ups of mostly young kids, making sure they stayed healthy, she also tended to give kids a piece of candy before they fully left after the check ups as a small treat. Kayla let out a small stretch as her last set of patients left with a joyful smile and farewell, having it about time to close the place for the night as it was starting to get late

After closing the clinic, Kayla started to make her way to her room

eagered to put her time into studying her books, as she studied, the stray cat from the night before found its way to her home.

"Oh hi little one" Kayla said in a soft tone to the cat as she let it into her room, she began to pet it, as it rubbed itself against her arm, she smiled gently, feeling the cats purring, Kayla only gave a confused look at the vibrating sensation.

"Poor thing are you cold?" She asked the feline as she decided to wrap her doctor's robe around the cat like a blanket, the cat only looking at her confused but was immediately accepted to Kayla's hospitality.

After a few hours of studying and playing with the cat, Kayla started to feel tired, as she was about to fall asleep she heard a loud commotion outside of her room.

"What's with the yelling?" She asked herself as she stood up, leaving to investigate what's happening whilst leaving the cat confused.

As she peeked out her window, she saw the town guard, talking to her parents as if in an argument. "Miss, one of the patient's your daughter worked with was found poisoned, and as the king demands she is to be punished" the guardsmen demanded.

"No!, there must have been a mistake, she would never do such a horrific act toward anyone let alone her own patients!" Kayla's mother exclaimed horrifically but was also furious.

The guardsmen ignored her, only to proceed into barging and making his way into her home and up to Kayla's room, Kayla overhearing the argument and unsure of what to do she grabbed what she could and saw the guard at her door as she jolted around hearing his loud stomps.

"Kayla Garner, for your crimes against this city you are to be executed. But by mercy of our great king due to the respect of the people towards you he demanded you to be exiled" the guard announced to her as they pulled her from her room forcefully.

"Wait! Don't!" Kayla cried out and begged "Please! I didn't do this, there has to be some mistake!" She tried pleading but they only ignored her, as the guardsmen took her to the castle where the king stayed and into a room full of powered crystals that protected the city.

"Please...you don't have to do this..." she begged once more as she was given an old crossbow with a single arrow, Kayla's parents rushed in forcefully also pleading. "There has to be a mistake, Kayla would never poison her people. Someone else is behind this, please!" Her mother cried out as multiple guardsmen grabbed and held both her and her father back.

Her father said nothing despite being held back himself, though Kayla could tell he was just as frightened as her mother with his very worried expression on his face. "Do you have proof of this!?" Her father demanded, trying to think of ways to stop this framed incident.

One of the guardsmen who was in lead, an officer leads men to be exact, held up a descriptive medicine bottle in hand that he had in pocket. Kayla nor did her parents say anything once it was shown, all knowing it was medicine from their clinic that they gave to ill patients to help ease their illness.

Before anything else could be done or her being claimed innocent, it was too late as the officer had flipped a switch near him, the last thing Kayla saw was her parents crying for her and being forcefully pushed back and out of the large room.

Kayla tightly closed her eyes as there was a bright flash of light. As the light cleared and her vision slowly began to adjust to the natural new light, Kayla tried to look around despite her blurred vision, thinking this is all a bad dream "t..this isnt real this..this.." she started to cry, small tears appearing in her eyes.

She was on her knees, her eyes finally fully adjusting and immediately glancing around her surroundings. She was in the middle of nowhere, nothing but dirt, sand and rocks around her and a small light breeze in the air. She was frozen, not knowing what to do, let alone realizing her own new environmental surroundings and letting the tears slowly flow down her cheeks.

She suddenly jumped frighteningly to a sudden loud sound, that sounded to be a large roar from something obviously large and most likely dangerous. She remembered all the rumors and the king's words 11 years back, the major fact that the surface was very dangerous and non-survivable.

Kayla quickly glanced over the second she saw movement at the corner of her eye, she immediately noticed a large creature that was being very intimidating in search of prey and was clearly starving. The only thing Kayla could think of was hiding with how near the beast was, her instincts took over as she darted towards a large rock and hid behind it with a thud, still crying slightly.

Kayla out of small curiosity peered over the rock to take a glance at the creature for a better look, it seemed to be no different than herself, surviving. Having to hunt for food as a result of having to kill somewhat scared her, she slumped slightly as if giving up, she was lost and confused and had no idea what to do or where to go to get back home and prove she was framed.

She then heard what sounded like a thud of something or someone dropping down behind her, out of sudden fear taking over instantly, she jolted around and with the crossbow she fired the single arrow at the now visible figure before her as she faced them.

Kayla somewhat relaxed as her back was pressed against the large rock and she slowly lowered the weapon in hand, before her was a young male albino turtle mutant who apparently had large dark wings that were neatly folded which honestly intrigued her.

He was crouched down lightly and on one knee, she quickly came to the conclusion he flew down to check her out as he clearly had no intentions of harming her, otherwise he would've done so already. He only glanced at the now found somewhat deep cut on his cheek after barely dodging the arrow Kayla had fired out of fear, he hardly reacted to it at all, though she noticed him to be somewhat surprised as if not being hurt before or for a very long time.

He had placed two fingers on the cut and then glanced at the blood, he was about to say something only to be stopped by Kayla whose curiosity had immediately taken over with her now dried tears as she stopped crying.

Without realizing it, Kayla had gently placed her hand on his cheek as she inched closer to him, soothing her thumb across the cut once. She was very intrigued with the blood, her whole life she has never seen it, let alone had the chance to touch it due to the magic in the crystals within Arkawa that healed such injuries.

The mutant only looked at her with the expression of both confusion and surprise still, Kayla's expression towards the mutant, switched from intrigue to fear as she realized what she had done, "I'm so sorry please don't nom me plz…" She said recoiling her hand away.

The mutant only stared at her in even more confusion, unsure how to respond, seeing the sun setting, the mutant tried to get her attention to warn her about nightfall, that's when "they" started roaming.

Kayla was only babbling nonsense at this point, along with flailing her arms a bit and being full of apologies. The turtle grabbed her wrist, grabbing her attention since she was clearly all over the place and had a lot on her mind. He pointed at the symbol on her hand, "You're from Arkawa, Aren't you?" He questioned her, releasing his grip on her wrist that was gentle to begin with.

Kayla upon hearing the question had a slight look of shock and surprise before going back to sadness, 'How did he know of Arkawa? I thought knowledge of its existence was kept secret...' she thought to herself.

The howling of creatures drew closer as the sun was setting, prompting the turtle that it was time to find shelter, the turtle's confusion only subsided slightly due to her silence and drooped head full of sadness, clearly recognizing something terrible happened to her.

He let out a small sigh and stood up, tossing a medium sized backpack he was originally carrying next to her which spooked her slightly since she was lost in thought, only to

glance at it and then him confusingly. "You can come with me, or you can stay here and take that bag that which has supplies in it to last you a few days, if you know how to withstand and avoid the Wulgs that is." He said.

His serious expression clearly told her he was testing her, or in a way, offering and beckoning her to come along. He was allowing her to have her own decision and choice, he knew full well she didn't know a thing about how to survive up on the surface due to slight concern in his eyes she had noticed.

Kayla realizing the choice placed before her, she started to consider her options, understanding she won't last long alone chose to stay with the turtle."I'm going to follow you, I don't like my chances alone.." She said to him, unsure if entirely a test.

The turtle gave a subtle smile, he peered over his shoulder directing his attention at a nearby building that Kayla quickly noticed as she followed his glance. She quickly glanced and picked up the bag he tossed her as the turtle turned and began walking towards the building, she quickly lifted herself off her knee's and followed behind, hugging the bag closely as she was still somewhat frightened and entirely unsure.

Kayla began to realize and notice the so called Wulg creatures in the distance, their strange sounds and creepy howls closing in as the sun was setting quickly and darkness was closing in, glancing at the shadows that were slowly coming along the sand from the distance. She quickly picked up her pace frighteningly, catching up with the turtle who already picked his speed up before her.

Upon approaching the building, it seemed like what was once a truck stop, complete with a diner and hotel/theater, Kayla began to feel awe to see a building before the apocalypse in such good condition, "Wow.." She uttered under her breath silently.

The turtle wandered into the truck stop quickly, halting Kayla so he could check if there was a Wulg den inside, only to see despite the aged furniture and walls, the inside seemed safe, be it a bit odd with the old record player humming away, the turtle lightly whistled and directed his head to Kayla to signal her it was safe and follow.

Kayla quickly and cautiously followed inside after the turtle considering he took the lead, which she preferred, when she saw the lobby she was in awe at the spectacle that was pre-ruin civilization, the scent inside however was quite the opposite of awe inspiring.

As Kayla tried to stop herself from gagging by covering her nose and mouth, she looked over at the turtle who was pulling and breaking parts of wood that had decayed and already broke over time, Kayla only stood there, unsure what to do or whether or not to help, let alone know how to help.

She gently put down the bag she had been carrying, and glanced around, her mind was too focused and clearly in awe of this building that she had forgotten the horrific incident not even several hours ago. She only heard rumors and stories about the buildings on the surface, tattered old buildings that always needed repairs, even the so-called towers that she has yet to see.

But this building seemed perfectly fine for it not being touched for 11 years, despite the rotten strange smell that clearly didn't bother the turtle as he tossed more wood into a small pile in the center of the lobby and picking up his pace when they both heard the shrieking of the Wulgs grow closer.

Kayla stiffened herself frighteningly, her temptation to explore had overtaken her as she had ended up wandering into a strange new room not far from the Lobby. She was not used to this strange new environment, with all the rubble laying around and things breaking apart that she in fact ended up tripping over a broken piece of large furniture as she wasn't paying any attention to her surroundings.

Kayla accidently let out a small shriek as it frightened her, which echoed throughout the building. Kayla immediately shot upward as she sat on her knees and covered her mouth, quickly realizing what she accidentally did. The sound of growls and rapid footsteps approached from the darkness down the hall from her, she jolted her attention behind her at the door.

A few Wulgs revealed themselves from the darkness as they slowly entered the room, slowly approaching Kayla, who they intend to make a meal out of, "N..nice doggies…" She whined lowly as she stood up and backed up slowly with her hands somewhat raised innocently.

Suddenly one of the Wulgs rushed at her, "..Crap!" She cried out as she attempted to flee, though her instincts took over as she immediately reached out and picked up the broken furniture she originally tripped over and used that as a weapon.

The other Wulgs had circled around her, the one that had rushed her had bit down on the piece of furniture she grabbed and held out, using it more so as a shield than weapon. The bite force of the creature had made her fall onto her back as the Wulg was now hovering over her, biting rapidly on the piece of furniture.

She noticed the creature had multiple sets of teeth in its mouth, which resulted in them getting stuck in the furniture. She took advantage of this as the room door was clear while the other Wulgs seemed to wait for their buddy to finish. Kayla used her leg, kicking the creature in the stomach and sending it flying over her, crashing it into the wall.

She immediately stood up and darted out the door and into the hall, sliding and almost losing her footing as one the Wulgs almost grabbed her leg. Kayla was lost, she immediately regretted wandering off on her own, she should've stayed with the turtle who clearly knew what he was doing, he was a survivor after all on the surface.

Kayla as she ran, ended up at a dead end, she jolted around with a small frightened but also stern look as if ready to fight. Despite having no skill or fighting in her, she wasn't bound to give up this easily and be eaten by some strange creatures without a fight. She honestly and desperately wanted to get back home to Arkawa, prove to them she was framed and the fact that there actually were survivors on the surface.

She slightly glared at the one Wulg that originally tried to attack her, It's loud snarls and shrieking like chuckles in between, just like your average Hyena could be heard throughout the hall. She closed her eyes in response as it pounced at her, only to open them realizing she isn't getting mauled.

Only to see the right arm of the turtle in the jaw of the Wulg, seeing his arm bleed, the turtle swung his arm throwing the Wulg into the other ones aggressively. Despite the multiple sets of teeth in its mouth, it couldn't keep it's grip on the turtle's arm, though she could tell it bit deep with how much blood rushed from his arm.

He had his wings slightly spread out, most likely to look larger and intimidating, which seemed to be working considering the Wulgs were actually smaller as they also slightly backed away. Thought one of the Wulgs to take lightly to it, it only let out a large growl and pounced at the turtle who quickly pulled out a knife from the sheath of his belt, he dodged the attempted pounce from the creature, grabbing it by the scruff and slamming the Wulg into the ground with the end result of stabbing it within the neck to finish it quickly.

Kayla closed her eyes and looked away, she hated violence and hated seeing death, but especially injury of anyone or even anything. It slightly disgusted her to just stand there and watch, being pathetic and not doing anything.

She opened them once again once she heard whimpering and sounds of fading, retreating footsteps. The Wulgs had retreated with their tails in between their legs as their most likely leader of their small group was killed. Kayla immediately glanced at the turtle's injury as he pulled the blade out from the creature's neck, slowly standing up, she felt bad but she also hated to admit it, she was fond of seeing the blood and wondered how he could endure such pain and continue to fight.

He didn't bother to turn around and face her, she figured he was upset but that quickly was off the list when he peered over his shoulder at her, he actually seemed to have worry in his eyes which confused her only, though he did also seem slightly upset.

"Sorry…" She whined lowly, dropping her head steadily and staring at the ground shamefully. "Don't be." He said, this caused Kayla to look up at him, she was even more confused. "Come on." He added, gripping his injury painfully now as he stepped over the dead Wulg, heading back to the Lobby where she quickly followed, not daring to look at the dead creature as it disgusted her as is.

After returning to the Lobby, he had already got the fire going where he had piled up the wood. The turtle was sitting down a bit away from the fire, Kayla was on the other end with her hands near the flames for warmth since it was pretty freezing.

She glanced at him worriedly as she knew he clearly was in pain due to his wings being slumped down, he was digging around in the bag for most likely bandages for his arm as he had just taken his gear off his injured arm, blood still rushing out from the multiple wounds and noticing it dripping to the ground.

Kayla then glanced around for alcohol to use as disinfectant and spotted a mini bar, she walked over to it and searched the cabinets and grabbed the closest bottle, approaching the turtle as she informed him "This may sting a bit..." she said while grabbing his arm, pouring the contents of the bottle on his injury immediately after.

The turtle had quickly glanced at the alcohol and her grasp, hardly reacting or recoiling as he instantly picked up on what she was doing, he winced slightly in response to the sudden alcohol washing through his open bite wounds, "Banda-" Kayla began to ask only to realize he already had the bandages out and handed to her, placing them into her hand as she had her hand open for them and began to wrap them around his injured arm.

Kayla began to tie off the bandage and double checked it to ensure it was secure on his arm, "Guess I don't need to mention these need to be changed in a few hours..." she said to the turtle realizing he has some medical knowledge, he only glanced at her somewhat giving her the look of as if she saw him to be stupid.

She looked at the turtle with the same caring look she gave to her patients, trying to insure she didn't see him as stupid as she quickly read his expression. He only let out a small subtle sigh added with a slight chuckle as he stood up, bending down and picking up his gear, "You just did." He remarked.

"Well with any luck the injury should be closed within a couple of days, and be fully healed in at least a week." She said to him, with a slight curious look on her face that the turtle clearly noticed as he looked down at her confusingly.

Her curious look returned to a saddened one like before, "Why are you helping me… you don't even know me at all and I am a complete stranger to you…" She began, remembering his actions when she first arrived, appearing in the middle of nowhere with hardly anything and she ended up hurting him and ended up causing him to get hurt again for her patheticness.

Again he gave a small sigh with a gentle look that she didn't notice yet as she was slumped over and on her knees still, shamefully once again. "Do I really need a reason on whether or not I should make the choice to help someone who clearly needs it." He remarked, "And you're not pathetic, I know what you did back in that room with the Wulgs." He added, clearly noticing her expression and already assuming what she thought of herself.

Kayla stopped slumping over and looked at the turtle with a look of slight surprise on her face. "You knew what I did?" She asked unsure how to react.

The turtle smiled at her in agreement, "I can tell you have some goal pushing you forward or just not wanting to die." He said to her, "Not many people around with that mindset, most seem to lose any will to go on these few years… you were exiled, weren't you." He added.

Kayla's small surprised look grew, he was definitely intelligent, not that she thought otherwise. She glanced down, twisting around the leftover rolled bandages in her hand, "I was a doctor that recently became lead for mine and my parents clinic… someone framed me for poisoning my patients and as a result of it the king exiled me instead of sentencing me to death."

"Pent…" He said lowly with a small stern look, Kayla shot her attention at him when he said that name. "How do you know King Pents name?" She questioned him, the King wasn't just known as the King, he of course had a name and that was, Pent. Though not many called him by this name often and just stuck with calling the King of Arkawa.

The turtle looked at her somewhat confusingly, "You don't know…?" He asked. Her confused expression told him she clearly didn't, "Your so called King, stopped taking in more people when this apocalypse happened when there still was more space. He left millions to die on the surface and closed off the underground city so we couldn't forcefully get in. I heard rumors that magic is a thing down there, and the only way in and out is teleportation from that magic down there." He explained to her.

Kayla was lost, but what he said seemed like the truth with how serious his expression was during the whole explanation. 'Apocalypse?' She thought, she was told the earth died on its own on the surface and the underground city has been a safe haven for thousands of years and the surface was non-survivable.

In short and as a result of this explanation said by the King, he meant there was absolutely nothing on the surface but everything to be dead, rotted and decayed away over the years, But after her experience so far, she believed him.

The turtle's uncertain look made him realize something, she clearly didn't remember anything that happened 11 years ago. He heard rumors that the people from the underground city had their minds wiped and refreshed, making them believe they were born and lived there, making them forget the incident and abandonment of many more people. Though he believed this to be just rumors, they weren't always the truth.

He didn't say anything, let alone want to, she was already going through a lot and now he understood why and how she knew to use alcohol on his injury to keep it from getting infected so it would heal properly.

The turtle only let out a small sigh as he bent down in front of her, gently grabbing the leftover bandages as she was clearly having a headache trying to figure out the situation and explanation he did give that happened 11 years ago, what really happened that is, He was just going to start with the basics, make it easy for her.

"Gwenn." He said to her, she snapped out of her lost in thoughts and looked up at him confusingly as she realized what he did but also said. "The name's Gwenn." He remarked once more noticing her confused look as he stood once more, tossing the bandages into the open bag.

She gave a small smile at him as he glanced down at her for a few seconds, "Kayla." She said back, noticing him grab something beside the bag and toss it to her which she caught. She glanced down at what he tossed over to her noticing it was a blanket, looking at it confusingly then back at him.

"Rest, we'll discuss more in the morning." Gwenn said, moving over to the other end of the fireplace to give her space. She followed where he went with her eyes, giving him a gentle look, he was sweet and for some odd reason she took fondness towards it. If he truly wanted to harm her, he could've done so already, though he defended her despite her so-called patheticness and what she did to him.

Kayla glanced around at the space given to her, while listening to the crackling of the fire along with the static hum from the record player filling the room, almost giving off a safe atmosphere aside from the feeling of being watched from the surrounding darkness outside.

Kayla felt a slight shiver run down her body from the cold air. "Is it always this cold at night?" she asked Gwenn as she hugged herself slightly and glanced down at the blanket he provided her.

Gwenn directed his attention up at her from across the fireplace where he sat somewhat close, Kayla, realizing he had something in his mouth which was clearly a piece of meat on a stick. She wasn't even going to bother to ask where that meat came from, she didn't want to know, nor was she really hungry let alone tired with the rummaging thoughts imploding through her mind once more.

"Mhm." Gwenn stated as he chewed away on the piece of meat and glanced down tossing the now lone stick into the fire. Kayla only tilted her head slightly with a small sigh, she lied down facing her back at him and wrapping herself in the blanket, the blanket was surprisingly perfect and warm with the small amount of fur on one part of it and the ends, she wasn't entirely fond of the smell, though she knew she would have to start growing used to the strange unpleasant new smells.

Gwenn unpleasantly stared at his injured arm, grasping it with his free hand slightly as it hurt like hell still, though he didn't show it. He let out a small annoyed painful growl, it's been a very long time since he's been injured like this that he's grown to forget pain a bit.

He directed his attention to staring at the flames of the fireplace, with the only sound of it crackling and the background humming of the record player that was still working apparently and surprisingly, though there were the slight sounds of the Wulgs letting out howls in the distance of the night.

Gwenn glanced at Kayla whose back was facing him, he let out a subtle sigh, he honestly didn't know why he helped her, let alone approach her like he did and frighten her unintentionally. He knew she wasn't from around here, she was alone and wore strange clothing and was clearly frightened when he saw her hide behind a large rock and just suddenly decided to approach her as he saw her most likely needing the help.

He wasn't expecting her to actually be from Arkawa though, he figured she was from a small clan nearby that was either exiled from the clan or left it because the raiding recently has been getting worse. Gwenn only let another sigh, though slightly annoyed, he collapsed down on his side to try and rest himself, he had nothing better to do anyway, so he chose to help her and would settle things better in the morning.
