"How are the preparations, Scudwell. I hope they're going along well."
"Everything is in tip-top condition, my liege, not a single member out of line."
"That's good to hear. It seems all that intensive training has paid off. This army means everything to me. It's my pride and joy, my only reason for living. And that's why I'll work tirelessly to see it succeed."
Rubaru and her steward traverse the yiga hideout, witnessing the peak of her subject's training. Footsoldiers and blademasters spar with vicious sickles and windcleavers, trying to outperform one another in front of their respected leader.
"The Hylian army is a joke compared to our well-disciplined forces," Scudwell details.
"Hmm, I hope you are right about that."
You chow down on a few of the apples stored within your inventory. In the blink of an eye, your health is completely restored to its maximum capacity. You begin to launch a surplus of light beams from your level sixty charged master sword. The rays of light penetrate McGruff's defenses, leaving him open for damage.
You race over to a wounded McGruff and jump high in the air. You thrust your legendary sword downwards, barely grazing the gruff mercenary. You grip McGruff's hand and help the beaten combatant to his feet.
"Hmph, you gave me a run for my money, kid. It looks like I was the one who needs some more practice. Say, I have a favor to ask. You see that big brat over there, Gustav. His Uncle requested I'd train him, but I've been having a tough time since he's such a sissy. How's about you take up the job? I'm confident that with your skills, you'll make quick work of it. In exchange, I'll see if I can finagle you and your friends some first-class seats aboard the Hyrule Express."
You look over to Gustav with a spark of determination occupying your irises. You shake on McGruff's alluring proposition, ready for training to commence.
Your newest objective is marked on your sheikah slate -
• Training the Feeble
"Am I holding this right, Link, or is it the other way around," Gustav utters in a flustered manner.
You facepalm after seeing Gustav holding the Boulder Breaker in the complete opposite direction. You position Gustav's hands correctly on the heavy weapon, lining him up with one of the training dummies. Gustav swings the hulking device without precision or accuracy, letting the rocky cleaver fly out of his hands. Gustav also struggles with the climbing and zip-lining portions of the test, continually falling on his rump. This task was proving more difficult than you anticipated.
A yiga member falls to the floor, "This task is proving more difficult than I anticipated," Rubaru loathes.
Rubaru walks over to the fallen soldier.
You walk over to the fallen Goron.
Rubaru extends her hand out.
You extend your hand out.
Rubaru picks up the frail man with her sharp nails. "You sniveling little fool. You're truly a shell of a man dwelling within my tribe. I won't stand for inept weaklings like you. You are hereby banished from my desert kingdom, with no hope of return."
"Yes, madam Rubaru, I shall leave at once."
You help the sturdy warrior off the ground. Hey, you know what? Everyone makes mistakes. Even the most talented of sword wielders had to start somewhere. So, let's go another round, see what you can accomplish little by little.
After noticing your strong-minded gaze, Gustav proceeds to pick up the Boulder Breaker with a glimpse of courage, "Thanks, friend, most people would've given up on me by this point. So the fact that you stuck around really means something." With Gustav's limited knowledge of swordplay, he tries his best to wield the daunting weapon. He takes a deep breath in through his nose, remembering his Uncle's advice. "Uncle, as afraid as I am to hurt other living creatures, I want to make you proud."
Gustav prepares to strike, but at the last second, a butterfly lands on the wooden dummy. He stops his swing and marvels at the majestic beauty. "Wow, a Smotherwing Butterfly, that's a rare sight to see.
You groan at the sight of a distracted Gustav, seeking to get him back into the clobbering mood. The horns sound as a pack of wild lizalfos approaches the training grounds. The soldiers arm themselves with halberds and claymores, planning an all-out attack against the fiendish goons.
This was the perfect opportunity to see Gustav's skills in action. You prompt him to take charge of the small faction. Gustav is initially hesitant about upholding your order but complies out of his longingness to impress his Uncle.
The two opposing forces collide, lobbing spears and arrows at one another. Even Riju and Tobias participate in the fight. Riju uses her lightning bow to fire a series of lightning-based projectiles. Tobias takes control of Riju's handcrafted whistle, annoying the monsters by playing an abnormally high pitch.
You put your sheikah slate to good use by throwing a cluster of remote bombs.
One of the many bombs bounces off an enemy's shield heading straight for the group of legionnaires. The unit of riflemen remains unaware that you have control of the bomb, all rushing away from the spherical object.
Gustav dives on top of the bomb, hoping to save the others from the explosion. "Go on without me. Your lives are more important than mine."
After a couple of seconds of waiting, the bomb disappears. "Huh, it didn't go off."
The band of beasts retreats into the dense fog, too injured to continue the brawl. "Woo-hoo, we did it." The troops shout.
"Yeah, we uh, did it," Gustav replies in disbelief.
Riju pulls you aside to engage in private conversation, "Did you see what Gustav just did. What he lacks in confidence he sure makes up in heart."
McGruff claps for the men's display of bravery, "Good job out there, you guys. Even you, Gustav, I'm impressed. You really rose to the occasion. Not many people have the willingness to put their lives on the line like that, so the fact that you did speaks volumes."
"Thanks teach, I appreciate the kind sentiment. As long as I don't have to get any blood on my hands, I'm golden!"
McGruff laughs off the whole ordeal, "Haha, you're still a piece of work, Gustav. I'm not letting you off the hook until you're able to hold your own against a gathering of bokoblins."
"Well, that'll have to wait because I'm visiting my Uncle soon."
"I see, so you're training period is up, and you're heading back to Goron City. I presume you'll be traveling aboard the Hyrule Express."
"Correct, and I'll be sure to send you a postcard."
McGruff calls over to you to whisper something in your ear, "Be sure to keep Gustav in check, okay. He has a knack for getting himself into trouble."
McGruff then scales a plywood staircase, "Thank you to all of the people who participated in today's training session. I usually don't see this many new faces, so I'm glad you all could be here. I understand many of you are preoccupied with your travels, but I hope we've convinced some of you to fight for our cause. As always, the submissions to join are over there, and the carriages for departure are over there."
Riju illustrates her opinion on the matter, "As much as practice makes perfect, I want to proceed with our journey across Hyrule, to see every crevis of this sprawling world. Plus, If you couldn't tell, I'm not too fond of mule scrubbing."
"Maybe we can come back after we've finished our epic voyage, Riju. You have to admit that battle with those monsters was pretty cool," Tobias adds.
"Yeah, I guess it was. Hey, you were pretty resourceful, using my sand seal whistle as a weapon."
"Us Rito have the uncanny ability to play music at an ear-piercing pitch. I knew it was going to be a useful ability. See, Riju, it wasn't a good idea to discount my importance."
"You got me there. What is it that produces such a disturbing melody? Is it magic?"
Riju and Tobias walk off, discussing possible battle formations.
McGruff hangs his hand on your shoulder, "Link, buddy, it's truly a shame that you can't fight alongside me. We'd make such a great team, but hey, that's life. Anyways, I wrangled up some first-class seats for you and your sweetheart, so you better be grateful."
"She is your girlfriend, right? Right!? Wait, you two haven't tied the knot yet. Seriously, you need to get on that. Who's to say some other handsome Hylian won't scoop her right up."
"That got you going. That's all the incentive someone like you needs to profess your love." McGruff raises his bejeweled rapier, "Well, here's to you here to both of you. I wish you luck on your romantic crusade."
