Here is the second chapter of this, all redone and editted!
I hope you all enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha. Inuyasha belongs to Rumiko Takahashi. Only Meiya and the plot belong to me.
A groan escaped Meiya as she began to regain consciousness. Slowly, with another groan, she rolled onto her back. Her eyes fluttered open. Everything was blurry, and it took a few blinks for her vision to focus. Faint light shone down on her, coming from above her. Her eyes narrowed into a squint, trying to keep the light from blinding her.
What...?
Another minute passed before she pushed herself up into a sitting position. Her body ached in protest, nearly every muscle she moved was screaming bloody murder at her. But she managed to stay upright.
Everything hurts...
"Just how long was I out for...?" It was murmured beneath her breath.
Trying to move her arm told her she needed another minute or two before she could attempt getting up. Most of her arm hurt, from her shoulder joint all the way down to her elbow and into her forearm. A pained wheeze came from her, her head tilting upward to see where the light was coming from. It was coming from the opening of the well.
Can't believe I was out all night...
With another pained wheeze, she forced her body to move so she could stand up. It ached and screamed with each move, but she did her best to ignore it. She brushed the dirt from her clothes, gaze drifting back up to the opening of the well.
Thank goodness it wasn't higher... Any higher and I'd have more than aches and pains to worry about.
A broken neck or broken back wasn't on the list of the things she wanted to deal with.
"Now to get out of here and get home..."
Her gaze trailed along the inside of the well, trying to find a way to climb out. It wasn't extremely deep down, but it wasn't like she could just jump up and grab onto the edge to pull herself out. Luckily, her eyes landed on a tree root that was growing down the side of the well.
"I don't remember that being there before." With a shrug of her shoulders, she stretched up to take hold of the root. "Hopefully, it doesn't give out on me..."
Once she had a firm grip on the root, she reached one arm up and then the other, beginning the climb to the top. A few minutes passed, and soon enough, she made it to the top. Then she swung her leg over the side, keeping a good grip on the edge with her hands so she could get her other leg out.
"There." A soft pant escaped her once both feet were on the ground. She glanced around, expecting to see the inside of the Higurashi family shrine, but instead, the sun was out and she was standing in the middle of a forest.
"What the…?" A frown tugged at her lips, settling deep onto her features. Her head darted back and forth, trying to see something besides trees and grass, but there was nothing else to be seen.
That's strange... What happened to the Higurashi shrine? And Kagome's house?
The sound of leaves rustling reached her ears, pulling her out of her thoughts, and her head snapped in the direction it was coming from. The rustling continued for a few minutes, and then a small, black bunny hopped out of the bushes.
"Just a bunny…" She let out a relieved sigh, pressing a hand to her chest, grateful that it was a bunny and not something else.
The bunny hopped away from the bushes, turning and disappearing into another bush. A couple minutes later, more rustling was heard.
Must be the bunny again.
"Here, bunny, bunny." Her voice was soft, and there was a slight smile on her face.
The rustling of leaves stopped as what appeared to be a large, green lizard came out from the bushes. Its tongue slithered in and out of its mouth, a grin forming to reveal long and sharp teeth.
Meiya's eyes widened at the sight of the creature, her smile immediately dropping, unable to believe what she was seeing.
"Hit my head too hard... I'm seeing things now..."
The lizard looked right at her, staring at her for a moment. Then it let out a shrieking laugh, unlike anything she'd ever heard before. "Oh, look, dinner! I'll enjoy pulling the flesh from your body!"
Terror began to take hold of her, realizing beginning to slowly dawn on her that she wasn't just seeing things. Her shoulders began to tremble, foot moving to take a step backwards. "Wh-What?" It was stammered out.
"Good, get scared. Yes! I love the smell of fear on my dinner!" It chuckled out, not taking its beady black eyes off of her. It pointed a hand at her, and the long claws glinted in the sun. "This'll be easy. A weak human girl like you!"
It wants to eat me!
Meiya gasped, wasting no time in turning around and taking off as fast as her legs would take her. She didn't really want to become this thing's meal.
The sound of booming footsteps were heard behind her. There was no doubt it was the lizard creature monster thing that wanted to eat her.
What is going on? What was that?
Pants escaped her, her chest heaving as she ran. Tears of fear flowed down her cheeks, and her legs were starting to feel heavy. She couldn't stop though. There was no way she could stop with that thing chasing her and wanting to make her into his next meal.
Her foot got caught on a tree branch, causing her to tumble to the ground. Specs of dirt went flying as she landed face first. She grunted, spitting out a mouth full of dirt before pushing herself up. A look over her shoulder told her she hadn't lost the lizard. He was still after her, and he was even closer now since she stripped.
"Damn it." She muttered, forcing herself to her feet. No time for a break or a breather, despite how her legs burned. She started running again, wincing as pain shot through her knee.
Must have scraped my knee when I tripped. I'll have to deal with it later. I need to focus on becoming tonight's entrée.
"Come on! It'll be fun!" The lizard called out, an almost maniacal sounding laugh accompanying his words. "I can make you into a nice stew!"
A shudder went up and down her spine.
I really don't want to be made into a stew.
"Not a fan of stew?" It questioned, head tilting slightly to the side.
There was no reply to his likely rhetorical question.
"Well, I can compromise! I like my food prepared other ways! How about I fillet you?!" It cackled out the words, lurching forward to slash at her back with those sharp claws.
The claws tore through her clothing and deep into her skin with ease. Pain immediately spread throughout her body, and she found herself stumbling, nearly falling to the ground. Blood gushed down her back, soaking through the shredded fabric of her hoodie and shirt. Droplets of blood left a trail on the ground. It hurt so bad she felt like collapsing, but she forced herself to keep running.
I can't let myself collapse. Then I really will end up being dinner.
"Maybe you're a little tougher than I thought." The lizard sounded almost impressed by that, a grin on its face. "This really is going to be fun!"
Meiya kept running as fast as she could, but she was beginning to feel light headed.
Feels like I could pass out soon...
"I don't think it's still following me..." She panted, taking a chance and looking over her shoulder. There wasn't any sign of the lizard chasing her anymore. "Thank goodness."
Without thinking much about it, she slumped against a nearby tree trunk, a gasp of pain erupting from her as the open gashes on her back stung from the contact and force. She moved away from the tree trunk some, so she was facing the tree trunk. It helped ease the pain some. "I... I need to get some help..."
"You won't be alive long enough for help." A voice chuckled into her ear, coming from behind her.
She gasped, recognizing the voice to be that of the lizard. But there wasn't any time for her to even try to move.
The lizard grabbed her shoulder before she could, its claws digging into her skin. It flipped her around, so they were face to face, its claws coming out from her shoulder. Blood soaked the clothing there.
"You'll make a fine dinner indeed." It barked out a laugh, tongue slithering out to lip its lips.
Meiya tried to press herself further against the tree trunk, no matter how much it hurt to do so. Tears welled up in her eyes. What she wouldn't give to be back in her room right now, where it was safe from that creature.
I'm going to die. I'm really going to die. I'm going to see you again a lot sooner than I thought, mom and dad.
She closed her eyes, tears starting to dribble down her cheeks and her shoulders starting to shake. Her head was spinning from how dizzy she was getting, and at least maybe if she passed out, it wouldn't hurt as bad to be eaten.
"Oh no, you don't!"
The sound of a young girl's voice was the last thing she heard, then the lizard hissing in pain as she drifted away into unconsciousness.
