Don't Rent A Girlfriend: High School

Chapter Four

Disclaimer: I do not own Rent A Girlfriend.

Chizuru didn't know how long she had been sitting on the bed while hugging her knees. Her eyes were puffy as she cried with her head tucked in-between her knees.

'Why can't I stop crying? What is wrong with me?' She just couldn't understand how to handle the situation. Nothing made sense to her. He didn't make sense, her aching heart didn't make sense.

'I am just a rental... why does it bother me so much.' Her finger scratched her legs, frustration and internal turmoil of not being able to deal with her internal conflict was apparent.

"Stupid Kazuya... he says I am just a rental... *hiccup*..." She complained, frustrated at herself for feeling so bothered by the whole situation. Bothered by his words more than she wanted to.

"Who does he think he is!" She yelled out loud, glaring at the empty wall that had nothing in particular of interest.

She wanted to picture his face on the wall where she was punching him like a boxing bag but every time she wanted to picture him, only memories of all the good things he had done for her popped into her consciousness.

"... what is wrong with me, *hiccup*... why can't I just move on." She wanted to erase the name Kazuya from her mind. Shetried really hard.

"Stupid Kazuya... I hate you." She went back to sobbing against her knees, unaware of the obvious fact that she had completely fallen in love with him.

(Scene Change)

"Yawn..." Kazuya felt refreshed after a nap in the evening. Stretching his arms and neck, he tried to get the perfect pop, but much to his annoyance, his bone structure was just not complying.

'I should get some exercise. I hadn't noticed it for a while.' He sighed as he walked to the small mirror that hung against the kitchen. He looked at his body and could see how out of shape he had turned lately.

"I look like shit..." He sighed, before grabbing a soda from the fridge.

He turned on the television and tuned into an anime channel to pass some time.

'I guess I will have a lot of free time starting tomorrow. There is...' He looked down sadly, a feint smile making its way on his face. 'No Mizuhara waiting for me. No more dates and pretending to be a couple.'

He honestly felt relieved despite being sad about not being able to tell her how he felt. He could feel as if a huge burden had been lifted from his shoulder.

Shaking his head to dismiss any other thought relating to his unrequited love, he changed the channel.

'I am kinda bored... what should I do?' He couldn't really find anything of interest in the TV. Then his eyes fell on the stack of magazines that sat on his table.

He walked to his table and picked one up. The cover page read 'X sized Oppai'

...

He took all the magazines from his table and threw them in the trash can.

"Much better. Don't need these anymore." He sighed. "Starting tomorrow, I will try to figure out a hobby. I can't keep going like this forever." He looked at the trash can one last time, tempted to take one out and masturbate one last time.

"They are just useless dreams." He sighed again. 'I should go out for a walk...'

(Scene Change)

Kazuya walked down the street that linked towards the busy parts of Tokyo. He could remember some of the familiar places that he would go to when he was in first year. Karaoke, gamestop...

He quickly increased his pace as he walked past an adult toy shop.

'Hmmm... I should get a pizza... or a steak?' He took out his phone and searched up nearby food stores.

"Kazu-kun? What are you doing here?"

He knew the voice all too well. In fact, he didn't need to hear the voice. Who else would call him 'Kazu-kun' anyway.

He looked up from his phone and smiled at the girl that stood a few meters away from him.

"Ah, Mami-chan. What are you doing here?" He asked as he walked towards her.

"I asked first." She pouted. "I am waiting for my friends. We are going to Karaoke."

He noticed her attire, dressed in her usual cutesy frilly dress.

"Sounds like fun..." He averted his eyes from her before he could see her mini skirt that exposed her thigh.

She easily noticed it, a grin spread across her face.

"Kazu-kun, you shouldn't be looking at me with lust, when you are dating Mizuhara-san."

'Ah right... leave it to her to bring this up.' He looked at her.

"Mami-chan, you can't blackmail her anymore." He grinned, making her visibly confused at his unexpected words.

"We ended our lies. It's over."

...

"O-Oh, I am happy for you, Kazu-kun." She smiled, clasping her hands in a friendly gesture.

He could tell just by looking at her now. She was not happy for him.

"I think I have begun to understand you a bit more." He spoke thoughtfully. "You have something against her right?"

...

"What do you mean?" She asked, her sweet voice breaking into her usual cold one.

"Ah, you sound mad." He looked at her with a challenging stare. "Mami-chan, are you perhaps... jealous?"

She gritted her teeth, her perfectly innocent facade long gone.

"I just think it's pointless." He added, scratching the back of his head.

She tilted her head. "Huh?"

"You are plentycute yourself to waste your time being jealous. It's not like she is dating your crush or something." He explained.

"I am not-"

"Besides, I am telling this as a friend. Mizuhara isn't a weak person. This time she doesn't have to worry about me if you try to mess with her."

"How dare-"

"Your friends are here, bye." He walked away as he bid her goodbye as she stood there with the nastiest look on her face.

"Oi, shall we go?"

The next unfortunate person was her friend who had approached her.

"Shut up, garbage..."

(Scene Change)

Kazuya looked at his phone after having the best pizza of his life. It was almost 22:00, he didn't expect it to be so late. After his brief meeting with Mami, he pretty much roamed around Tokyo before having dinner. It shouldn't have been that long right?

'Well, time to get back.'

(Scene Change)

Kazuya came to a standstill as he stood at the far end of his door steps. His eyes widened, an involuntary gasp left his lips as he looked at Mizuhara's doorsteps where Umi stood, a smile plastered on his face. The door soon opened and he stepped in and before long, the door closed behind.

He stood there, thinking, processing, ultimately near losing his mind.

'I thought I was ready.' He couldn't believe this. Mizuhara's room, the place he had thought of so many times, fantasized even, where he could never step in. She never let him in. And here she was, inviting over the one person that he couldn't stand. The one fucking...

He slapped his cheeks, trying his hardest to not barge in and kick the shit out of him. He felt sick to his stomach, his breathing heightened, his heart beat increased, memories of her smiling face, their first meeting, the time he had spent with her, the girl he thought to one day make his... everything came in crashing and then tainted. He quickly entered his room and closed the door behind, sliding down his door as he sat on the ground. He couldn't stop the tears that erased his facade of happiness.

"I thought I was fucking ready!" He wiped his tears helplessly only for more fresh tears to shower his misery.

"Mizuhara... doesn't fucking care one bit. She invited him over... how dare she-" As if a bell rang through his conciseness, he calmed down. Memories of all the times she had rejected his advances came back like an emotional roller coaster.

Ah...

'Sigh... what right do I have to get upset at her.' A pained smile brushed his tear stained face. 'I am such a fool.' He wiped his face with the back of his hand.

He looked at the wall that separated their apartment complex and sighed, couldn't help but race his mind on things that were happening on the other side.

'I can't stay here... I thought I was ready.' He took out his phone as he stared at the screen for a while before pressing the dial button.

Ring... ring... ri-

"Hello... mom. Hmm... I am fine... hmm... I am coming back tomorrow... no, everything is fine... hmm... goodnight."

Sigh...

He looked down at the ground as he sat there like an idiot. 'So lame. Me.'

(Scene Change)

"Umi-kun, I said I wasn't feeling okay." She couldn't be bothered to argue with him. She just wanted to be left alone.

"I am sorry, but this is really big news." Umi spoke enthusiastically, ignoring her as he continued. "I just received a call from the Producer of Square Enix, they were asking about the girl-"

She didn't really hear what he was spewing. Nor did she care. Her eyes didn't have the usual glow nor did she have her enthusiasm.

"-This is huge, Ichinose. They want you to do the ad next week!"

She found herself nodding, just wishing he would shut up and leave.

'Who cares...'

"So I will see you tomorrow. I need you to sign up some agreements and-"

"Umi-kun. Can you please leave?" She asked, as politely as possible.

He looked at her, opened his mouth to say something. But then decided against it.

"Yes. So, I will see you tomorrow."

"Hm." She nodded, as she looked away not meeting his eyes.

"Bye."

...

As the door closed once he was gone, she locked the door and went back to her bed, sitting with her knees hugged against his forehead.

'I hate you... Kazuya.'

(Scene Change)

The next day Chizuru woke up with a headache.

'Just great...' She sighed as she saw the texts from Umi. 'Guess I will go.'

She did her best to be as presentable as she could. Took a shower, put up her makeup and dressed whatever was at arms reach. She really didn't want to go out today but she did agree to whatever Umi-kun was asking. Besides, she kinda felt bad for being mean to him last night. It wasn't his fault.

As she exited her house, her eyes involuntarily fell on Kazuya's doorsteps. She quickly shook her head, trying her best not to think about him. She wanted to focus and not be depressed over him.

'Stupid Kazuya.'

As she walked down the stairs, she noticed a van that stood outside that was used to transfer furniture when people were moving out.

She didn't really think much of it as she walked past it.

'I hope the day ends quickly... I just want to go back to sleep.' She thought as she took heavy strides towards the bus stop.
