Disclaimer: I'm a teenage fanfic writer, not the owner of a video game by the name of Kingdom Hearts. Don't make me cry. You don't want to see me cry.
Author's Notes: I moved this out of my drabble collection because it's longer than the other ones, and I thought it deserved its own story. Reviews are much appreciated!

Roxas groaned. He could not believe that Olette had dragged him and Hayner shopping AGAIN. He couldn't quite see what she found so fascinating about it. Surely there was something better to do with your time. Hayner rolled his eyes in irritation as she dragged them into another shop. Seriously, they'd been at it for ages.
"Olette, me and Roxas are going to the skateboard shop. We'll be back in a while." Hayner said to Olette, giving Roxas a look that clearly told him to go along with it. Fortunately for him, Olette was absorbed in browsing a shelf and didn't catch the glance.
"Okay," she replied absentmindedly.
Hayner dragged Roxas out of the shop and down the street towards the skateboard shop.
"Why are we here? We were just here yesterday," complained Roxas.
"It's not that," Hayner rolled his eyes.
"Well then what is it?" said Roxas impatiently.
Hayner lowered his voice and looked around, making sure no one was in hearing.
"It's Olette's birthday. It's tomorrow!"
Roxas's jaw dropped.
"You are NOT serious."
The two boys had to act, and fast. They didn't bother to find Pence, since they figured that he'd already know and had chosen not to tell them.
Roxas and Hayner had no idea what to get Olette. It's not like they paid any attention when she dragged them shopping. They would have to just buy something and hope she liked it.
The two of them dodged into a nearby store, hoping Olette hadn't seen them, and made their way to the front counter.
"Is there anything I can help you with?" asked the kind lady behind the counter.
"Uh, yeah," replied Roxas, "er, it's our friend's birthday tomorrow and we have no idea what to get her, so, er…"
"Do you need some help picking something out?" said the lady, who had obviously realized their predicament.
"Uh, yes please," agreed Roxas, his hand going to his neck and shifting his weight from foot to foot.
Roxas had never really known how much there was to choose from when shopping. After a few minutes of browsing the aisles, he was already overwhelmed. There was just too much to choose from, and how was he supposed to know what Olette would like?
"Hey!" Hayner grabbed Roxas's arm and pointed to something on the shelf. "How about that?"
It was a sewing and beading kit.
Roxas gazed at it for a few moments.
"Yeah, I think she'd like that."
The next day, the two of them put their present in a small box along with some candy they had picked up the day before and headed over to the Usual Spot.
Olette was already there, doing something with threads that looked like it might be a bracelet or necklace. She looked up from her work as Roxas and Hayner came in.
"Hi Hayner, Roxas!" she said cheerily, acting like nothing was out of the ordinary.
"Happy Birthday Olette!" said the two boys, handing her their gift.
Olette was delighted. "Thank you!" she cried as she opened the box and admired the gift. "It was so sweet of you to remember! And I know just what I'm going to make with this!"
The two boys exchanged a glance, and didn't say a word about their last minute gift search.
Author's Notes: Isn't that Hayner and Roxas-like? I thought it would be. And I wonder if anyone picked up the significance of the gift.
