A/N: Hi everyone, sorry this is a little late. I actually went away for a few days and didn't get back until later than expected then I was straight back to work. Now I've come down with a cold! I hope you all enjoy this chapter!

"Doctor, we're here." A voice called, breaking the Doctor out of his trance. He looked up to see Elijah standing before him. "Here, you're going to need to put this on. You need to blend in." He said, handing him a uniform.

Without saying a word the Doctor took the clothes from him and quickly put them on. He didn't want to waste time, he needed to get back inside the TARDIS and get to Kari. That was his priority. He had listened to the plan carefully, and it was simple enough. He was going to be dressed as one of the guards and along with Elijah they would just head towards the blue box when the real guards change shifts. He just hoped that it would work and that they would really blend in. He needed Kari, he just could not stop worrying about her.

The relief flooded him when he finally saw his blue box standing there, not too badly damaged from what he could see. He had the key tightly in his hand, ready to unlock the doors and jump inside. But he had to wait for Elijah. There were a few guards that were not a part of the Rebellion and they needed to be distracted before he could get his box.

The minutes seemed to pass like hours while the Doctor waited, then he heard the signal, the whistling. Without any hesitation at all he rushed towards the blue doors, key primed and ready to go. To his utter surprise the doors flew open before he even reached the TARDIS, causing him to mutter a thanks to the ship. "Right, time to get Kari." He said, dashing around the console, unaware that someone else had been behind him, that had run into the box with him.

"Wow…" A voice called in awe. "This is just… wow…"

The Doctor quickly spun around and looked at the person. "Ah, yes…" He said, glad to see that it was Elijah and not anyone else. "Welcome aboard. Sorry, no time for an explanation at the moment. Shut the door, would you?" He called, getting back to the controls and finding Kari. "Kari is waiting for me." He announced, before pulling down the lever and sending the box to hurtle through space.

Elijah was just looking around with wide eyes, unable to believe what he was seeing. "So it's true. You and Kari, you really are full of magic." He whispered, still trying to comprehend what he was seeing.

"Not magic." The Doctor called back to him. "Time Lord." He didn't have time for this, he needed to get to Kari and make sure that she really was okay. He couldn't think of anything else until she was with him.

Luckily the TARDIS seemed to understand the urgency and let out a loud boom. Before the Doctor could even reach the doors to the ship they flew open and Kari came charging in. There was so much relief on her face as well as the Doctor's as she rushed over to him, grabbing onto him tightly and almost knocking him off his feet. "Don't you ever, ever, do that again, Doctor." She mumbled her arms around his neck like a vice as she buried her face in his clothes.

The Doctor was holding onto her just as tightly, if not more, as he tried to hold back the flood of emotion that was threatening to take over him. "I"m sorry, Kari. I am so, so sorry." There was really nothing more that he could say. The Doctor was just glad that she was there, that she was with him and she was safe. "I'm sorry."

"You'll be even more sorry if you do that again, mister. I swear, we are meant to be a team." Kari told him, trying to keep herself together just as much as the Doctor was. "Stop trying to deal with everything on your own."

The Doctor knew that she was right, that they were a team, they were in this and everything else together. "I know, I'm sorry." He said, before pushing her away a little so that he could see her, to check that she really was okay, that she hadn't been hurt at all. "Are you okay?"

Kari nodded at him slightly. "Yeah, I'm okay. I did what you asked and did not go outside." She told him, remembering what had happened when she had her hand pressed up against the window. "But… something happened." Kari knew that she had to tell him, he would find out eventually anyway so there was no point in even trying to hide anything from him. "I was looking out of the window and when I touched the glass, the wisps sort of… came to me."

She wasn't sure what kind of reaction she was expecting from the Doctor, but she was not expecting him to smile at her. "Good, that means that we can put an end to all of this and then leave." He told her, watching the confused expression take over her face. "If they came to you, then they are still connected to you."

"Then tell me what we need to do." There was so much determination in her voice, she just wanted to get this all over with and get out of there now. She knew that something terrible was going to happen to her there in the future so she wanted to leave, to get away as quickly as she could so that she could try to forget what was to come.

"First, we need to help the Rebellion overthrow the government. Then we can sort out the rest." The Doctor told her, reaching down and planting a kiss on her forehead.

Kari looked at him with a frown on her face. "Uh, okay. And why exactly are we going to do that?" It was clear that she had missed something and all she wanted was for the Doctor to catch her up on it all. "I think you may need to fill me in." She added, finally spotting the other person standing there, staring at her with wide eyes.

The Doctor followed her gaze and realised what she meant. "Oh yes, this is Elijah. He is part of the Rebellion, he helped me avoid being executed. I promised I'd help him if he could get me back to the TARDIS to find you." There was no point in lying to her or trying to hide anything, she would just find out and then be mad at him for keeping things from her.

"Help him how?" Kari asked, before noticing that someone else had stepped into the blue box with them.

"By putting a stop to the person who started all of this." Kari noticed the Doctor's eyes darken a little as he said that. "She started all of this, now I'm going to finish it." He added.

There was concern in Kari's eyes as she looked at him, wondering what was going on in that head of his. Something wasn't right. "Doctor, talk to me. What do you mean? Who are you talking about?" She needed some answers and she desperately needed them now. She was getting the awful feeling that he was about to turn into the Oncoming Storm and that never led to anything good.

"He means putting a stop to the person who started this all those years ago." A voice that was now familiar to Kari called, causing her to turn and look. She noticed Bruno had now joined them in the TARDIS. "The person who has caused so much pain and suffering to so many people." There was something about the look on his face that made Kari wonder if there was something more to what he was saying.

"She caused you pain and suffering as well, Bruno." The Doctor called, looking at the man.

He nodded in response. "Yes, she did. But I've learnt to live with that. Nothing you or anyone else does will ever bring her back." That was when something clicked for Kari, made her realise why he just wanted to be left alone.

"Who was she, Bruno? Who did you lose?" Kari asked him softly. She should have noticed it before, the way he acted and spoke, the fact that he just wanted to be left alone to live his life in peace. He had lost someone very close to him, someone he cared about more than anything else.

She didn't miss the sad look that was on his face now. "My Aliyah. She was taken from me and not a day goes by where I don't think about her and wish that I could do something to change what happened. To make things better. But I know that isn't possible. She is gone, forever, and I have to carry on." There was so much sadness in his voice, like he had just given up on everything.

"You may not want to fight for her, but I will." Elijah called, grasping everyone's attention. Kari had almost forgotten that he was there. "I will fight for everything she was and believed in. She wanted a better life for the people, she wanted freedom. All you want to do is sit in the shadows and hide." It was easy to see from the tone of his voice that he was far from happy with Bruno.

"And look where that got her! Killed!" Bruno shouted, fury filling his face.

The Doctor and Kari just stood there, watching and wondering. Neither of them really knew what to say or what to do. Kari didn't even know that they knew each other. "Bruno was married to Aliyah. Aliyah was Elijah's sister." The Doctor called to her, knowing that she was feeling confused.

"Oh, so that's… that makes sense." She called back to him, watching as the pair continued to argue back and forth. "How did she die?" Kari asked, hoping that it had nothing to do with her, with what she had done.

"Kari… I…" He hesitated.

She looked at him, her eyes locking onto his. "Tell me, Doctor." She said, forgetting about the two that were arguing. "Tell me how she died." She needed to know, because she was starting to feel like it was her fault, like she had something to do with it.

The Doctor let out a sigh. "Kari…"

"TELL ME!" She shouted, causing both Bruno and Elijah to stop and look over at the pair.

"I can't…" He told her softly, his eyes just filled with so much regret and sadness. That was really all Kari needed to know to understand what had happened.

Kari closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She could feel the time vortex building because of her anger, because of everything that was going on. She needed to control that as well as her emotions. "Aliyah died because of me, didn't she?" Although she was asking the question, Kari already knew what the answer was going to be. The Doctor was never very good at hiding things from her, not really. She knew him far too well to work out when he was keeping something from her, even if it was to try and protect her. "Whatever happened the last time we were here, people died then and it was all because of me. Wasn't it, Doctor?" It was bad enough that people had died since then because of her, but knowing more people had died and were going to die, Kari hated it.

The Doctor gently placed his hands on the tops of Kari's arms as he gazed into her eyes. "Kari, what happened and what will happen was never and will never be your fault. Do you understand?" He told her, his voice so gentle and calm. "You were just a pawn in someone else's game. No one died because of you, people died because someone was playing a dangerous game. Trying to do something that they had no understanding of." He said, hoping that he was getting through to her, that she would understand. "You, you tried to save them. To help them, like you always do."

For some reason, Kari was finding it hard to believe him still. He knew everything about what had happened before, he knew exactly what she would be put through. But he would never tell her. "Doctor…"

"You have to believe me, and you have to trust me, Kari." He said, interrupting her. "You cannot blame yourself for any of this. I promise you, everything that happened was not because of you. Do you understand? It is not your fault." He had to get it through to her, because otherwise she would keep on blaming herself. The Doctor knew that Kari would punish herself if she carried on thinking people had died because of her.

"He's right, Kari." Bruno called, walking towards where the couple were standing. "Aliyah didn't die because of you. My wife wanted us all to be free, to make our own choices. It wasn't you that killed her or got her into that situation." He explained to her. "She wanted the world to be a better place, for the children of this world."

Kari was starting to struggle. Things were just getting a little too much now and her head was beginning to hurt a little. "And how was she going to do that?" She asked, hoping that he would give her some answers because she was sure that the Doctor would be more reluctant to do so.

Bruno looked over at Elijah before turning back to face Kari. "By taking down the government. Our President, Cora, is the one who started this game. She craves power and glory." He explained. "You'll find out more about her eventually, when your future and our past meet. But what you need to know is that her ideas and greed have caused so much suffering and pain for everyone on this planet. She has influence over every government around the world."

"And we need to stop her." Elijah called, bounding over to join them. "I haven't been entirely honest with you, Doctor." He admitted, causing the Doctor to frown at him. "The Rebellion has the support of the other world leaders. We have a plan to take her down. She will be arrested and locked up, for the rest of her life. But we do need your help to do it."

There was a slightly bemused look on the Doctor's face now. "And what do you need me to do?" He asked, hoping that it wasn't going to involve Kari. He couldn't put her through any more pain. He would much rather she just stayed in the TARDIS until it was all sorted and they could leave. He just wanted to keep her safe. Unfortunately, he knew that Kari would never go for that. It wasn't who she was.

Elijah glanced at Kari, knowing that it was going to be a struggle to get him to agree to this. "Cora knows that there are those who fight against her, want her out. She tends to keep herself locked away in the President's Tower. There isn't much that will get her to come out into the open, which is where we need her to be."

Kari hadn't missed the look he had given her. "Why do I feel like this needs me to get involved as well." She muttered, holding onto the Doctor's hand tightly.

"There is only one person Cora hates more than the Doctor." The man said, before all eyes fell on Kari.

She couldn't help but let out a sigh. "How did I know you were going to say that? Did anyone else know that he was going to say that?" It was pretty obvious that she was going to have to suffer some more before all of this was over. "What do you need me to do?" Kari asked reluctantly. She just wanted it all to be over with so that she could fly off with the Doctor and forget all about that place. At least until she had to go through whatever else happened there before.

"You don't have to do this, Kari." The Doctor told her quickly, hoping that she was going to say no, to tell them to get lost and leave her out of it. The trouble was, he knew that wasn't Kari, she wasn't like that at all. "You can say no."

"I think you already know the answer to that one, don't you, Doctor?" Kari asked, looking at him. "You know exactly what I'm going to say." She watched as he nodded at her. "I'll be fine, Doctor. As long as you are here and with me, then I know that everything is going to be fine."

The Doctor tugged at her hand and pulled her away from the eyes of both Elijah and Bruno. "Are you sure about this, Kari? You have to be absolutely certain. You have no idea what that woman is capable of. I do. This isn't going to be easy." It was clear from his tone that he was worried, that he didn't exactly want her to say yes, to do it.

Kari knew that. "Doctor, whatever happens or has happened, I know that we both get through it." She told him, trying to ease his worry a little. "I know because you are here. I know because we have already been through some terrible things. Some of it hasn't happened for me yet, some of it hasn't happened for you. But I still know that we get through it. You always want me to trust you, Doctor, and I do. So just trust me as well, okay?"

"Okay." The Doctor whispered. "If that's what you want, okay. I trust you."

A small smile slipped onto her face. "Good." Kari replied, before reaching up and gently planting her lips on his. "Now come on, we have things to do. And you really need to change, that is not a good look on you." She was ready to get started, to do whatever needed to be done so that she could just spend some time with her Doctor. Kari also did not approve of the military looking uniform that he was wearing.

The Doctor, Kari, Elijah and a very reluctant Bruno had agreed on a plan. Bruno wasn't happy to be involved, but Kari had told him that she needed his help. He wasn't going to say no to her. While all he really wanted was a quiet life, until the world was a little more kind he knew that wasn't going to happen.

Kari wouldn't admit it, but she was rather nervous. She was going to have to put herself in the one place the Doctor didn't want her. Outside and in the open. It was the only way they were going to get Cora to come out, to get her to leave the safety of her little Tower. "Remember, we are going to be right here the whole time. Okay?" The Doctor said, breaking her out of her thoughts.

She quickly nodded at him. "Yeah, I know." She replied, clearing her throat as she did. "So, you remembered how to actually put the outer shield on invisible? Or are you going to need me to show you how to actually do it?" Kari asked him, knowing that he had gotten it very wrong in the past.

The Doctor lightly tapped her on the nose. "I remember, thank you very much." He told her playfully. "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure, Doctor. Like you said, you're going to be right here, in the TARDIS, watching everything, ready to step in and save me if I need you to." Kari assured him, knowing just how much he was really worrying. He had let a few of his thoughts wander and she caught a hold of one where he was tempted to just lock her in her room. Or even put the whole TARDIS in lockdown. "I will be fine. Please, stop worrying. You're not meant to go grey with stress and worry for a few more hundred years."

He raised an eyebrow at her and was about to respond when Elijah spoke up. "We're ready. Everything is all set and they are all in position. Doctor, Kari, it's up to you now." The pair wasted no time and charged around the consol, stealing glances at each other as they did. Both were still worrying, but neither of them would admit it.

The TARDIS made a thud and Kari knew that they had landed. Before she had a chance to move, the Doctor had taken a tight hold of her hand. "Kari… are you sure?" He asked, the worry still showing on his face.

She nodded at him and put a smile on his face. "Yes. We need to put an end to this. I've got this, Doctor." Kari told him, doing her best to hide the feelings that were bubbling inside of her. She had to keep them in check, she had to make sure she stuck to the plan. "Wish me luck." With those words she strode towards the doors, pulling them open and stelling outside.

When she stepped outside of the magical blue box she was faced with several armed men, all pointing their guns at her. "Tell President Cora that I want a word with her. Now." Kari ordered, giving them her fiercest glare. "And if any of you even think of trying something…" She added, pulling out her sonic screwdriver and pressing the button. It buzzed for a few seconds and the TARDIS began to disappear. "I'll blow us all up. Clear?" Now her eyes were starting to burn a little, and she caught sight of a golden wisp out of the corner of her eye.

The look on the face of those standing before her said it all, they were terrified of her. While they didn't lower their guns, one of them did run off, presumably to inform Cora that she was there, and that she was threatening to blow them all up. While she waited Kari wandered around, checking her nails and making sure to look as bored as possible. While it looked like the TARDIS had left, the Doctor had just made it invisible. Only Kari knew that the ship was still there, she could still feel her there with her. It was comforting to know that in a nanosecond there would be help if she needed it.

The time seemed to pass by slowly, but eventually a vehicle pulled up and out stepped a woman that Kari had never met before. The woman was dressed in a deep blue dress which looked like a dress someone would wear to the opera or something, with some kind of animal fur thrown over her shoulders. There was silence as the woman walked towards Kari, no one dared to make a sound.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't the little wife." The woman said with disdain in her voice. "How dare you summon me like some pet of yours."

Kari just stared at the woman, trying to keep her emotions in check. "Where is my husband?" She asked, letting some of her anger show.

A smile appeared on Cora's face. "Oh, haven't you heard? He's dead." She said, chuckling a little. "He was executed, as you will be."

This time it was Kari who smiled. "I don't think so. If I'm going to die, then I'm taking you and everyone else with me." She announced, holding onto her sonic tightly. "You take the Doctor away from me, I take everything away from you. Just one push of the button and this whole planet shatters into a billion, billion pieces. I've sent the TARDIS to the core of the planet. I'm going to blow it from the inside out." There was a rather disturbing smile on Kari's face as she spoke and a real fire began to burn in her eyes.

The smile on Cora's face faltered for a moment. "You wouldn't." She scoffed. While she had said it, she wasn't entirely sure she believed it.

"You want to find out?" Kari asked, her finger ready to push. She knew the game she had to play and she had to stick to it. "I've got nothing to lose."

"What do you want?" Cora asked, unsure of what to do or how to handle the situation.

Kari took a step towards the woman, who immediately took a step back. "What I want is my husband back. But since you have killed him, I'll settle for getting rid of you." It was difficult for her to say those things, because it wasn't really her, it wasn't who she was. Yes, she would do anything for the Doctor, but if he was truely dead, she wasn't sure what would happen.

Once again, Cora didn't know how to respond. This didn't seem to be the same woman that she had met before. There was something different about her, she just couldn't work out what it was. "And how exactly do you plan on doing that?"

"Like I said, I've got nothing left to lose. The Doctor was the only one in the whole of the universe who could calm me, but you've taken him away from me. Do you know what that means?" Kari asked, while Cora just looked at her. "There is absolutely no one to stop me."

Now the fear was beginning to show on Cora's face. She could see that Kari wasn't playing, that this was no joke to her. "Fine. He isn't dead." Cora announced reluctantly. "He escaped. Happy?"

"Why should I believe you? All you do is lie. You lie to the people all the time, just to give yourself more power. Do they know about what happened before? About why all those people died, do they know?" Kari asked, remembering what the Doctor had told her to say. "And what about these 'Night Terrors'? Do the people know that they were caused by you?"

Kari couldn't help but notice the woman's face turning white slightly. "You have no proof of any of those things."

A smirk worked its way onto Kari's face now. "Really? I mean apart from the fact that I was there, that the Doctor was there. We saw it, we lived through it. What you did to those people, to me…" Now Kari really was starting to feel angry. This woman before her was going to cause her so much pain, as well as the Doctor. And for a split second she wanted to make the woman suffer, to put her through as much pain as she would. But then she felt a slightly hum of reassurance from the TARDIS that was still there, watching and waiting. "You can't hide the truth forever."

"Oh yes I can. All I need to do is kill you." Cora announced. Suddenly Kari found herself facing more guns than she would have liked. "How are you going to stop me?"

This was the moment that Kari had been waiting for, the moment to finally start to put things right. "By showing everyone exactly what these Night Terrors are. You pulled me apart, tried to use me, all for your own gain. You shattered me into pieces. What you failed to realise was that those pieces are linked to me." Kari told her, feeling the time vortex begin to build around her. "I can make everyone see them." She said, before all of those golden wisps that she had seen before suddenly appeared. Many of the guards gasped and backed away from them, clearly terrified. "What is your biggest fear, Cora? Shall we find out?"

Cora could only stand there as the wisps gathered around her, trapping her. "Stop it. Get them away from me!" She shouted, her own fear starting to show through. "Get them away!"

"Why? Scared they are going to reveal the truth?" Kari asked, taking a step closer to the woman. The guards were no longer a threat, they were too concerned with getting themselves away from there. "What are you scared of, Cora?"

"I am not scared of anything. Not you, not the Doctor and not your little tricks." Cora replied, trying to hold herself together.

Kari knew that wasn't true, she could see the fear in her eyes. "Why are you so desperate for power?" She asked, almost standing in front of the woman now. "What is it that makes you need to control everything?"

"Stop it! Just stop it!"

"ANSWER ME!" Kari shouted, the wisps getting closer and bigger. She knew that she needed to scare the woman just a little more if she was going to complete her part of the plan.

Cora looked at her with hatred in her eyes before answering. "Because I can. Because people are stupid. They will follow anyone like a little lost lamb. Without me, they wouldn't know what to do with themselves. They would be lost." She spat at Kari. "I own this planet, my own little world with stupid little people doing everything I want. My own little world of idiots, where I rule everything."

Suddenly the wisps that were surrounding Cora backed away and headed towards Kari. "Thank you very much, that is just what I wanted to hear." Kari said, before turning on her sonic screwdriver. As she did the TARDIS came back into view a few feet behind her. "Did you get all that, Doctor?" She called over her shoulder as he stepped out of the blue box.

"Every single word, thanks." He replied, coming over and standing beside Kari while Elijah and Bruno also stepped out of the box. "Now the whole world knows exactly who you are, Cora. There is no denying it now. They know what you think of them."

The woman's face fell as she realised what had just happened. "What… no… no… you can't…" There was utter disbelief in her voice as Elijah marched over towards her, a stone look on his face.

"The peoples of this planet stand against you. The governments of this world stand against you. You are hereby stripped of your title and all roles. You are no longer President." He told her calmly. "You are now a prisoner of the people. Charges have been made against you."

Kari just stood there with the Doctor and watched as Elijah nodded to some of the guards who hadn't run, those who were also part of the Rebellion. She was being taken away, it was almost all over. She couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.

"Only one more thing left to do." She said, looking at the sky and the golden wisps that she could see.

The Doctor turned her so that she was facing him. "Kari, this is going to be dangerous. You understand that, don't you? Neither of us know what is going to happen. This… this could…" his face was just filled with worry.

"I know, Doctor, but it has to be done. We can't just leave this planet like this. I have to do it." Kari was scared, of course she was, but she had made a promise. "Just stay with me, okay?" The Doctor nodded at her, taking a tight hold of her hand

"I'll be here. Always. Just… take it slowly. Okay?" He couldn't help but worry. What she was about to do was something that she should never have to do.

Kari turned her head and looked at the Doctor. "I love you, Doctor." She told him, before closing her eyes tightly and focusing. She could feel all those tiny little parts of the time vortex all over the planet, and now she was calling them back, back to her.

All the Doctor could do was watch as the golden wisps came rushing towards them, and Kari's whole body began to glow brightly. There were so many things that could go wrong. It could all get too much for her and she could burn out. It could kill her in an instant. He wanted to stop her, to see if there was another way to fix it all. But the Doctor knew there was no point, Kari was stubborn and was very determined. All he could do was stand with her and she did everything she could to fix what had happened to her so long ago.

A/N: So a few of you had already guessed what these terrors were and how they were linked to Kari, well done to you! Obviously there is still a whole story plot to come on this planet in the future where we find out exactly what happened in the first place. I've started writing it but I have no idea at the moment when I am going to be posting it. I hope you all enjoyed that chapter anyway.

This story line isn't over just yet, we aren't going to be jumping straight into another adventure in the next chapter. You'll understand why soon.

A big thank you to everyone that has left a review, it's nice to see so many people still here after all these years and some new readers too!

Take care of yourself, until the next time,

Pippa.
