A/N: So, from Old Joke, there's a scene where they watch the sun rise. However, Old Joke is a JO friendship, so I just reworked that scene as more romantic JO. Enjoy!
We lapse into silence and I watches him fish and the sky alternatively. As the minutes go by, the sky gets lighter, turning into a rainbow of colors near the horizon, ranging from red all the way to blue and back behind us into deeper blues. One spot on the horizon gets brighter than the rest, until the sun begins to peek out and suddenly there's this wonderful brilliant light as the sun comes up. His fishing rod has been stilled for a few minutes now, the plug dangling from the tip washing towards us with the incoming waves, then washing out as the ocean reclaims the water it sent up to us. He stands behind me, and I doubt he thinks I know he's there.
The sun is sending its rays over the water and they seem to come to a stop right in front of us. I can hear his breathing mixing with the crash of the waves and his scent mingled with that of the ocean. I reach behind me, find his arm and pull him up against my back. His left arm, which is free, comes around me and I feel his breath on my head as he leans closer and presses a kiss to my hair. I smile, a close lipped content smile.
"You forgive me for waking you up?" he says quietly, his voice rougher and lower than normal.
"Maybe," I tease.
"That's good enough for me."
"Good, 'cause that's all you're gonna get."
"If you say so."
"You doubt me?"
"No, just your conviction."
"Oh, and who's going to change my mind?" I've turned in his grip, our chests now pressed together.
"Me," he says simply and leans down, kissing me. Pulling away, he rests his forehead against mine. "Me."
