CHAPTER 1: SOLARIS
My ears ring as I slowly open my eyes. I can smell the potent stench of Jet fuel radiating through the canopy. It isn't long until I come to my senses and see that I, along with Violet in the Co-Pilot's seat behind me, are currently plummeting toward the ground at top speed in a flaming, experimental fighter jet. An alarm echoes through the cockpit further adding to the stress.
"OH SHIT!" I shout as I quickly take note of my gauges. The speedometer is increasing rapidly, accompanying my altimeter decreasing at a similar rate. The plane is currently in a slow roll to the left as it drops from the sky.
"VIOLET?! VIOLET ARE YOU OKAY!?" I shout, but I hear no response.
"Violet?" I ask again as I turn around in my seat, looking back to the Snivy behind me. She slumps over, I can see blood pouring down her face under her helmet. "Shit!" I shout in a panic. I reach for the eject lever. However, I stop myself, and look back at the girl behind me, "No, I'm not gonna leave you to die Vi!" I shout, instead grabbing the control stick and slamming trim right, causing the ailerons to adjust to the roll of the plane. I straighten out the aircraft and pull up on the stick, slamming my feet into the brake pedals. I drop the landing struts for added cushioning, whilst also firing the VTOL engine, groaning as it sputters to the smallest bit of life. I slam forward on the throttle, trying everything I can to get this bird to land on its belly instead of its nose. I yell out in frustration as I watch the rocky terrain of the Ironhol crags approach the plane.
"CAUTION - ALTITUDE!"
"DON'T FAIL ME NOW BABY!" I scream at the plane as I can now make out the cracks in the ground below, pulling up for dear life.
"CAUTION - ALTITUDE!"
"NNRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!"
"CAUTION - ALTI-"
My vision goes black on impact
…
16 Days Earlier.
The Pacific Ocean, 15 miles off the coast of Altera, Urami.
July 6th, 2210, 10:12 A.M.
"Feeling sleepy there Solaris?" A voice comes through my helmet, beckoning my eyes open. I quickly look around to find my partner...and alleged former girlfriend currently gluing herself to the side of my plane, Jasmine Airheart. A Latias with amethyst purple eyes, white flight goggles with orange-tinted glass perched atop her head, and a heart you wouldn't expect from a soldier as high a rank as herself. She's giving me this joking look. I roll my eyes and look down to see the picturesque...Pacific Ocean. Ah…
...I love border patrol….and in case you couldn't tell, that was sarcasm.
"Gimme a break Jazz, It's border patrol, It's not like we're going to need to actually attack anything. When was the last time any humans even got remotely close to Celatia?" I ask. The Latias looks away for a second, calculating the response behind those eyes of hers. "Um...I wanna say, 6 months ago?" She responds.
I give her a sideways look, "Exactly! What the hell are we even doing out here!" I exclaim in frustration, throwing my hands up and accidentally punching the glass. "Ough! Also...why are you on my plane?" I prod, rapidly shaking my hand in a fruitless effort to dull the pain from me punching the canopy. "Same reason you're dozing off." She quickly replies. I roll my eyes at her sass.
"Well get off. You're weighing me down." I order, a smile creeping on to my lips. She shoots a grin, "Mmmmmmh...no." She quips. I narrow my eyes. "Yes." I reply.
"Nope!"
"Get off my jet."
"Nope!"
"Jasmine."
"Nope!"
I huff before grabbing my stick and tilting it to the right slightly. Causing my NP-22 Swanna fighter jet to pull into a clockwise roll. I look to my left and the Latias just stares at me with a funny look on her face. Narrowing her eyes, I increase the roll speed, she still hangs on. I tilt the stick all the way. She smiles mischievously. "Are you just doing this because you're bored?" I ask, still rolling the plane. "Yep!" She chirps in response. I stop rolling. "Alright then…" I mutter to myself. Jasmine realizes what I'm doing and starts to get a concerned look on her face. I grin, "HOW'S THIS THEN!" I shout as I slam the throttle forward, hitting the air brakes, and pitching up at the same time. Air moves rapidly across my wings as my plane is thrown into an intense, high-G turn. Throwing the Latias off of the side of the plane. "Whoa!" She shouts, before steadying herself. "Thank you." I joke. Before I hear a thud on the opposite side of my plane. I look to my right to find her back on my plane, staring at me with a cheeky grin on her face. I sigh, "I can't win with you, can I?" The Latias blips her tongue out in response.
Suddenly a short beep sounds in my cockpit. I quickly look forward and am taken aback to see a single, green square in my HUD. "Holy crap, I'm reading an IFF signature!" I shout, Causing Jasmine to get off my plane and fly alongside me, "Really?" She asks, flipping her goggles over her eyes. "Oh yeah. Sure enough. It says it's an Unknown vessel."
"Think it's hostile?" I ask. Before Jasmine suddenly speeds toward the large boat below us, "I'll get close enough to register it. We can see from there." She explains. Quickly passing over the boat, my IFF updates.
"TEAM ROCKET, CORVETTE."
"Team Rocket? Aren't they the big mob in Japan that went down a few decades ago?" I ask. Jasmine flies alongside me again. "Yeah. What are they doing all the way out here?" She continues. "If I had to guess, they probably know that Celatian Pokemon are much stronger than those outside, and have come to capture some of us."
"Well, we can't let that happen, can we?" She inquires, looking at me with a wink. "Hold on, we gotta do our job first, and if that doesn't work, then we can have fun." I reply. She sulks.
I press the radio button on my left side panel, broadcasting to all frequencies.
"This is the Celatia Naval Patrol. Unmarked Corvette you are heading into Celatian waters, Turn back immediately or we will respond with deadly force. You have two minutes to comply before you end up on the bottom of the ocean." I call out to the boat 2000 feet below me. I wait for a bit, "Well, have they turned around?" I ask my partner. "Nope. If anything they've sped up."
I sigh, "Unmarked Corvette you are now considered hostile, Turn back or we WILL attack." I radio.
A bit later, Jasmine looks to me, "They aren't stopping."
While annoyed, I will admit, It's about time I get to actually do something in border patrol.
"Unmarked Corvette, you have failed to comply, we will now attack with lethal force. I hope you've said prayers." I say.
"That was a bit dark." Jasmine says.
"Probably. Anyway, Let's go sink this boat!" I shout. Rolling upside down before pitching up, pulling the jet into a dive towards the water. Jasmine easily passes me with her incredibly high speeds, equipping her rocket launchers with her PDA. She makes a couple passes, getting two volleys in. Various Pokemon fire back at her from the deck of the boat, fortunately, she's far too nimble to be hit. "Alright, I've softened them up for you Solaris!" She shouts. I pull up and fly mere feet from the surface of the water, the turbulence caused by the steel bird cutting through the air kicking up the water below. Flicking a switch on my weapon console, I make note of the two identical torpedoes materializing on the bottom of my wings. As I get closer, I pull the trigger on my stick, the twin plasma guns on the craft open fire as I riddle the ship with rounds. Before hitting the red button on the top. The torpedoes drop from my wings and hit the water. I pull up and fly over the boat a good altitude away. I get nicked by a stray flash cannon, but it only leaves a small dent in the hull, fortunately. I look back to suddenly watch the Poacher's boat get ripped in half by the torpedoes. Erupting in a massive ball of flame. "WHOO!" I cheer. "Nice shot Jackson!" Jasmine cheers, pulling a barrel roll around me. "Alright. I think it's time we return to base, our shift's almost done." I explain. Jasmine nods. "Yeah, let's."
"Maybe now I'll finally get that promotion." I remark.
…
Altera, Urami Province.
July 6th, 2210, 11:49 A.M.
"Weeeell?" The Latias asks as I step out of the office. Eagerly awaiting a reply. "Welp, I'm a Warrant Officer now." I announce. "Yay! That's great Jackson!" Jasmine cheers, pulling me into a big hug. "You were great out there too, Jazz." I compliment. She releases from the hug. "Thank you…" She says, a warm smile on her face. "I've gotta look after my dad, but I hope you have a good rest of your day Jack." She explains, I meet her smile with a nod.
A few years ago Jasmine and I dated. However in 2207, 3 years ago, my memories were erased by Ava Nocturne. Along with it, went all memories I had of Jasmine, and our relationship. She was devastated at first, tried to make it work again, but it didn't work. It's been a couple of years since then and the wounds have healed.
It's been three years since the events of Ava Nocturne. We haven't seen any Nightbring activity as of recent, nor any sign of that infamous Umbreon. Since then I've enlisted in the very organization that hunted me down all those years ago. I've recovered only bits and pieces of my childhood, I mostly only remember the events leading to my conversion.
After having myself being broadcast on live television all over the continent and quite possibly the world, I'm scared of people finding out about me. So I've resorted to bending light around me to hide my markings and mask the glow of my eyes. Things may be peaceful now, but I have a feeling it's only a matter of time until someone makes a play.
"Well. I guess I'll be seeing you." I explain.
"Yeah...later Solaris." she announces. Flying off.
I sigh and get on my way.
I walk through the city streets of Altera, the city that I grew up in. Cobalt and I passed through this city when we were on the run all those years ago. Fortunately for me, the train station isn't far at all. The city of Altera is always a lively one, especially during the summer. Pokemon come from all over the country to take in the tourist trap that is the port City of Altera. Especially since this week is Fleet Week, a week where a bunch of air shows take place. I've thought about maybe doing airshows someday, but not for a while at least.
I have a seat on a bench as I wait for the maglev to come through a tunnel on my right.
I know for now most of my missions consist of patrols and the occasional air to ground strike mission, but oh boy. I can't wait for the day when I have to dogfight another jet, I've done it plenty of times in the simulator, and apparently I'm really good at fighting those sim battles. But it's just not the same as flying a real jet. Sure, the plane controls the same, but the sim technology isn't very tactile. It feels...cheap, and unsatisfying.
A large train suddenly makes its way into the station, slowing to a stop and opening its doors. I board the train, take my seat...and relax. There are advertisements for various products lining the walls, most of which don't interest me.
"Neurachem Psychic Steroid: Heighten your mind!"
"Why ride the train when you could be riding in the all-new 2211 Cellbreaker Tempest! 637 raging horsepower with a 148-hour battery. It's the Ultimate in Celatian Muscle! MSRP: 73,530ut, medium size Pokemon only."
That reminds me. After the tragic loss of Cobalt's Neo, with only Covelight to blame for its destruction. They compensated the full value of it back to him, he's since used that money to purchase a mid-blue Starchaser Titan. While it IS a hybrid instead of an electric and requires both charge and the outdated fuel source of Gasoline, which is expensive. Cobalt says it's more fun than his Neo was. It's a bit more 2100's styled, which isn't my thing, but hey, Cobalt likes it.
Speaking of which…
I roll back the sleeve of my uniform coat, revealing a gold PDA underneath. The same one I found on my dresser years back, it was...an experience, going through those old photographs from a time erased from my psyche. That's not important, however. I swipe my free hand downwards in front of the metal wristband, causing a small holographic screen to display itself along my arm, I then place my palm on the screen and move it in front of me, creating a full display in front of me.
First thing's first, this uncomfortable uniform coat, gotta go.
I pull up the CYBERLOCK tab and digitize the navy blue uniform, which disappears into my PDA.
Honestly, the Coat's not itchy or anything, but it really doesn't accommodate the curved yellow extrusions on the sides of my neck, which, by the way, we call pauldrons. Plus, blue's just not my color, looks good on Violet though, if I'm being honest, brings out her eyes.
You wanna know what IS my color, though?
I press on an item I've got in storage, and a hologram appears in the air in front of me, I grab the Hologram and it becomes a vibrant yellow bomber jacket, I had it custom tailored for me. I smirk and slide my arms into the sleeves, both sleeves sport a white LED strip going along the outside of them, ending at my jet black cuffs. Near the top part of the sleeve, the strip extends sideways, forming a glowing white ring around my upper arm. I shimmy my back along it until my Pauldrons find the two slots cut into the collar of the jacket, allowing them to slide through. The collar is black on the inside, also sporting white LEDs along the inside. I pull the jacket forward and zip myself up. My military emblem is emblazoned on both my chest and on my back. Both also white LEDs. My emblem being the ancient Celatian word for 'sun' as it represents my Callsign, Solaris, which is also engraved on my chest, just below the emblem.
Finally, my new look is incomplete without the final detail. I materialize it next, holding it in my hands
Thank you, Maverick from Top Gun, for showing me that aviator shades are kick ass. I think to myself, before flicking the arms open and resting the sunglasses on my head. Let's be real, there's no way I can actually wear these given my massive snout. I don't care, they look just FINE perched on top of my head. I mean I guess I can just get some made FOR me, but Aviators are expensive as is, given the rarity of them these days. I guess Celatia doesn't appreciate the classics.
Okay, now that my outfit is sorted out. Time to actually do what I opened my PDA for, I pull up the messages tab and at the top of my list is a group chat between me, Cobalt, Violet, and Jasmine. I smile as a keyboard appears in front of me with the chat history now in view.
Balty boy: "You guys hear about the storm forming?"
Vi: "Yeah, it's expected to be a Cat 4, right?"
Jazzy: "Really? I haven't, when is it expected to be coming?"
Balty boy: "Sometime next month."
You: "Damn, guess I'm not flying."
Jazzy: "Not with that attitude!"
Vi: "Aw you'll be fine! It's not hitting till next month!"
I smile and type up the good news, but not before I notice the maglev exit a tunnel, bringing the city of Aerocroft into full view, I admire the view for a second before sending my response.
You: "Guess who just got promoted to WO."
Not even 10 seconds later I get a reply.
Vi: "Wait, seriously? Holy shit, Congrats J!"
Of course it's Violet who replies, with her sitting in Mayrum's office all day, I'd imagine it's pretty boring.
Jazzy: "It's true, we were on border patrol and some humans actually showed up for once."
Vi: "Wow, and you hailed them and everything?"
You: "Yup, they ignored us and even sent out some Pokemon to take us out."
Vi: "Nice going humies."
Jazzy: "Anyway, Jackson took out the boat and earned a promotion because of it."
Vi: "Okay not sarcastic, Nice Going Jackson! We should go out to celebrate!"
Not gonna lie, I was kinda taken aback by that offer, but my grin only widened in the end.
Jazzy: "I wish I could join you all, but...my dad."
You: "It's fine, Jasmine. I understand."
Vi: "Cobalt? You down?"
No response from him.
You: "He's probably in bed with some doll."
That's Celatia slang for 'Prostitute' in case you're wondering, he admitted to hiring one before.
Is it annoying? A little bit.
Is it fantastic to rip on him about though? Oh Abso-fucking-lutely.
Oh, speak of Giratina.
Balty Boy: "No, I'm in the car Jackass. I'm not THAT crazy."
You: "Are you though?"
Balty Boy: "YES!"
Jazzy: "He's just messing with you Cobalt, don't take it personally."
Vi: "Nah, take it personally."
I chuckle a fair bit at Violet's response. She's usually in on the jabs, much to Cobalt's dismay.
You: "Anyway, you in or out?"
Balty Boy: "Just read the history, of course, I'm in. I know this place we can go, it's in the Lake District."
Vi: "Alright! Sounds great, Let's meet at Shoreline, yeah?"
You: "That works for me, 7:30 work for everyone?"
Balty Boy: "Yup, perfect."
Vi: "I'll be there."
You: "It's a date then. Cobalt, try not to get distracted."
Balty Boy: "Wankstain."
You: "Love ya too, buddy."
I huff humorously as I close my PDA. Now taking a look back at the surrounding area, the city of Aerocroft now surrounding the train. The buildings along the train tracks all covered in graffiti, most of it harmless, but occasionally people are spreading their politics around. With a tag of the Covelight Logo (Which is a chevron, with a smaller one cut into it with 2 trapezoids on either side, so that the whole logo is in the shape of a star.) with the words "Oppressor" painted over top of it, my heart sinks slightly at the sight of this. It's times like this when I wonder if Covelight's really the side I want to be on. I mean, we did start the Celatian Civil war, we drain the lands of its resources to manufacture weapons of war and our leader has to rely on medication to keep sane.
When you really come down to it, it's kind of a mess.
The P.A. System blares, breaking my focus. "NOW ARRIVING: DIRIDON STATION, AEROCROFT. PLEASE WATCH YOUR STEP BEFORE EXITING." I'm broken out of my trance, realising that this is my stop. I stand up and step off the train, flaring my collar as the warm summer sun beats down on me. I smile in anticipation for tonight, but for now I make my way to the parking garage, where I then tap a button on my PDA. A vehicle ahead of me beeps twice, signalling that it's unlocked.
The Vehicle in question is a Toksin Vanguard (Toksin, of course, being founded by a Toxtricity.) It's what's known as a tilter, a cross between a Motorcycle and a car. A tandem two-seater vehicle (Meaning the passenger is behind the driver), it features a single wheel in the rear, and two in the front.
I start the vehicle and drive back home, stopping for coffee on the way, since I had to get up at oh-dark-thirty. Turns out, even when chosen, with my need for food, water, and oxygen being no longer a necessity, apparently sleep is still something I need. I'm not even sure stuff like this affects me, I don't know what happens to stuff I ingest. Like if they go through the same process as before or the light just vaporizes stuff I eat.
But I digress, it isn't long before I end up arriving back home in the suburbs of Aerocroft. Pulling into the driveway of the simple, contemporary eichler in a neighborhood of...well, other eichlers. As I step out of my vehicle, the voice of an elderly woman calls out to me. "Jack is that you?"
I look over at an elderly Leafeon watering her garden next door, I give her a small smile.
"Yes, it's me Elara." I reply, starting for my front door.
"You seem to be in good spirits today."
"Yeah, finally got promoted."
"Oh that's wonderful! It's nice to see you doing well after Scarlet and Alexander...vanished."
I pause after that last sentence, glancing to the Leafeon, before turning back to my door as I reach for the biometric scanner. "Yeah...it is."
Elara seems to notice she's touched a nerve, staring somberly towards me. "Look if there's anything you need Jacky, you just let me or Pete know, okay?"
I pause again as the door opens, "Thanks Elara, I'll...take it under advisement." I respond before heading inside.
The doorway branches into two sections, to the left is the doorway to an office space I rarely use. To the right is a long hallway facing away from the door. Down the hall to the left is the kitchen, further back, on the left is the living room. Across from the living room is my old room, now renovated into the guest room in case Cobalt needs a place to crash again.
Coming back towards the door from there, the guest bathroom, then, well what used to be my brother's room. Now just a big storage room of all my family's things. Finally, across from the kitchen, the master bedroom, which I've taken over in my parent's absence, Master bath connected to that, of course.
I've got some time to kill, but first, I need a shower, I smell of jet fuel.
…
Fuck, I just remembered I'm outta my normal body wash.
Aero lake marina, Aerocroft's shoreline district.
July 6th, 2210. 7:26 P.M.
It appears I'm early. We set up a specific rendezvous here at the marina about half an hour ago. With the sun looking like it's about to start setting soon, I decide to take a seat at one of the benches. Lining the waterfront, gentle waves lapping the shore just past the fence. Aero lake is large, roughly the same size as Lake Tahoe in California. It's no Utah salt lake by any means, but it's big enough to have tides. I check my PDA for messages idly, until suddenly someone quickly but gently, grabs my snout and pulls my entire body back, I yelp in surprise as I find myself now buried in the chest of my assailant, their hand now coming down and pounding on my chest as if they were driving a knife into my heart. I sigh loudly as I'm no stranger to this action.
"Sssh! Ssh! Shhhh…." I hear a familiar voice repeatedly hushing me, before she immediately breaks down, giggling as she releases me. I glare at her, before rolling my eyes.
"Seriously Vi? You can't just call out to me like a regular person?" I groan, staring daggers as the familiar blue-eyed Snivy, still chuckling, occupies the spot next to me on the bench. "Oh come on you know better than to make yourself a target like that!" Violet jokes, nudging me with her elbow. "Yeah whatever, I'm not the one who tactically executes her friends as a greeting."
Violet sports a button up cardigan, the bottom is a deep blue, starting brightest at the very bottom, getting darker the further up, becoming black near the middle onward.
"Pssh, I know you remember that time I did that to Cobalt and stole a sandwich out of his hand in the process."
As annoyed as I am right now, I can't help but stifle a laugh at the memory.
"Heh, right. Least you paid him back for it." I note, Violet quickly cocks her head dismissively.
"Well, now that that whole thing's over, how've you been? It's been a little while?" I ask, attempting to strike up a more tolerable conversation.
"Well, you know. Same old, same old. Kinda boring at home. I just finished rewatching 'That Sylveon' for the 6th time." Violet notes, punctuating her sentence with a hint of sarcasm. I roll my eyes, "Arceus, I can't stand that kinda show. It's just one of those high school dramas, bleh, pass." I remark, looking away mockingly.
Violet pauses. "What's wrong with that?" She asks. "I dunno, they all seem the same to me. Boyfriend/Girlfriend this, cheating/breakup that, parent/bully issues. It just all seems kinda copy-paste for me. There's no action! That's why I like those old 1980's action movies, who cares about the plot, just get Schwarzenegger and have him blow shit up! It's great!" I explain, grinning.
Violet gives me a look, a sideways look with a big smirk on her face. "There's a gunfight in That Sylveon." She mentions. I take a moment, "What?" I respond, making sure I heard that correctly. "There's a gunfight. I'm not kidding." Violet giggles as I look down at the ground in confusion. I don't believe this. I'm about to reply when I notice Violet lean closer to me, sniffing the air. "Uhh, What're you doing?" I ask.
She takes a second to respond, looking me in the eyes, "Jackson, why do you smell like honey?"
"...huh?"
"You smell like honey."
"Oh yeah...I kinda ran out of my regular body wash, had to settle for my backup."
"Which is honey?"
"Would you rather I smell like Jet fuel?"
"It'd be more manly." She jabs, lightly shoving me. I glare "Oh shut up." I murmur, causing Violet to giggle lightly. "Anyways, what I was saying earlier. I'm starting to get tired of just sitting around and doing nothing in my downtime. I…" she trails off, now pondering something.
"Need a hobby?" I attempt to fill in the gap. She nods, "Yeah, I need to find something I enjoy that ISN'T binge watching and getting paid to murder people."
I think for a short moment.
"Yeah...me too." I add.
Violet and I cease speaking for a little bit, now just watching the sky turn orange as the sun starts to dip below the horizon.
Violet finally turns to me, "Have you noticed that Covelight's stopped getting Nightbring attacks?"
"Huh? No, I haven't. Last I heard we were still shooting at each other from across the Veil. They've stopped attacking?"
"Yeah, for about a month now, I don't like it, I think they're planning something. I'm not sure I trust it."
"That sounds like the Mayrum in you."
"What? Are you not suspicious that our enemy is suddenly ceasing fire for a month?"
"It's a little suspicious but at least they've stopped. Even so, I don't think they're planning something."
"What makes you say that?"
"Call it a hunch. It's not like we can ask them why they've stopped."
"Jackson need I remind you that you're notorious for stupid ideas."
"Need I remind you that all of those ideas worked? If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid."
Violet playfully rolls her eyes. "What-ever." She replies sarcastically.
I'm about to retort, but then a familiar voice fills our ears.
"You two argue like an old couple." Cobalt jokes, prompting both of us to turn around and look back at the Greninja. "There he is!" I cheer, despite Violet not sharing my esteem, somewhat offended by the water type's joke. "Cobalt are you trying to imply something?" She jabs. Cobalt chuckles, "Relax Covelight, I'm only making a joke." He replies.
Cobalt's wearing a new vest, kinda like Violet's cardigan, it's black and blue, only his is split vertically, with black to the left of the zipper, blue to the right. A white LED strip follows the blue side of the zipper.
Cobalt claps his hands together, "Right, shall we get a move on?" He suggests, both of us nod and follow behind.
We continue onward until we find a cozy little place. A large neon sign reads "Rosebud" a subtle hum emanates from it as chatter fills our ears from indoors. "This is the place, hopefully Summer's tending tonight." He notes, motioning us to follow him inside. Violet and I look at each other, "Summer?" She asks, I only shrug in response. Regardless, we head inside.
"Hoped you were working tonight!" Cobalt exclaims, garnering the attention of a mint green eyed Braixen behind the bar. She smirks "Ah the soldier again, Cobalt, right?" She pipes, her sentence clearly expressing a Glaywood accent, identical to the signature drawl of south USA. It's a dialect you rarely see here in Aerocroft and it throws me for a short loop. "Oh, you remembered, I've brought some company with me this time."
"More soldiers? Hey, you're all welcome here." She notes as we all take a seat at the bar. "I'm Summer Oblivia, my mama Rose owns the place." She introduces, now resting her elbows on the bar. "Jackson." I follow. "Violet" Violet replies. Summer nods in response, "Y'all siblings?" She asks us, both of us are slightly taken aback and shake our heads "No, we're just friends, I can see why you might think that though." Violet answers for me. The Braixen cocks her head in response. "Anyway, What can I get y'all?" She addresses.
I shrug, "I'm okay for right now, you guys go ahead."
…
Two hours later.
Violet and I leave the bar, she's a little bit soused, but she's still functional. Cobalt stayed behind so he can hit on the bartender some more. I silently sigh, I really wish he'd brought us there for a different reason, but it was a nice place nevertheless. Tonight was fun regardless, Violet and I start back to Shoreline, a small silence filling the air. A silence which I then break.
"This was a good idea, Vi. I think all of us needed a little break."
"Well, it's been a while since we've gotten together like this. It's boring being cooped up in Mayrum's office all day, I've been waiting for an excuse to see you for a long time."
"Mayrum not let you outta the house much?"
"Only if there's a reason such as this. He's working late tonight so he figured I'd be better off with you guys than being bored."
"Honestly, I kinda feel that, these days I'm either flying, watching old movies, or...well searching for my family I guess."
Violet sighs a bit at the last sentence.
"Jackson, why do you keep devoting so much effort into looking for them?"
The two of us stop in front of a dark alleyway, the only light source being a blue street light directly above us.
"Violet, I've defeated Ava, haven't I? They should've come back by now, even Rezala seems to think so. I don't know where in the world they've ended up, and I won't stop thinking about it until I know!" I snap, throwing Violet for a loop. She pauses for a second, then leans forward, eyes narrowing, "But are they here? No! I'm here! Cobalt is here! Jasmine is here! Like it or not Jackson, we're the closest thing to family to you!"
I'm about to retort, but our argument is suddenly interrupted.
"Caught you guys at a bad time have I?" a male voice neither of us recognise comes from the alleyway. Both of us quickly turn our attention to a tall dark figure, I can't make out the silhouette, as it seems to don a hooded cloak. "And who the hell are you?" I reply.
"I'm safe in assuming you're Violet Covelight?" the figure asks, pointing to Violet, who's taken aback by the figure. I step forward so that I'm in between Violet and the person in the alleyway.
"Hey, you didn't answer my question pal. Who's asking?"
The figure sighs, removing the cloak from his body. A bipedal pokemon with what looks like a wide, spiky figure, stands silhouetted against the alleyway. Before finally stepping forward revealing the pokemon to be a Zoroark with deep purple eyes. "My name is Vision Nightbring. I'm the current leader of the Nightbring Clan."
Both of us immediately throw up our guard in surprise, but the dark type suddenly raises his hand. "Whoa whoa, I'm not here to cause trouble."
"Then why are you here?" Violet snaps back.
"I need to speak with Mayrum, you're his daughter, so I thought you'd be the one to help me reach him." he explains calmly.
I step forward, "Oh yeah, why's that?" I ask.
"It might sound ridiculous, but the Clan needs the help of Covelight."
I press him further, "Yeah, it does sound ridiculous. Tell me the real reason."
"I just told you the reason! A bigger threat is on the horizon and if we don't have Covelight's aid then all of Celatia is in danger!"
I prep my light, not revealing my markings.
"Maybe I'll deliver you to Mayrum in cuffs!" I shout, Violet seems against my actions.
"Jackson. Wait." she mutters to me, only for me to ignore her.
"I wouldn't try, buddy." Vision replies, seeming to raise his guard.
"WATCH ME!" I shout as my markings appear, a flash barrage primed and ready to fire.
However, I stop myself.
Vision points back with an attack of his own. 4 pointed orbs of energy hover just in front of his claw, the orbs being black, but glowing white, leaving an eclipse-like appearance. I immediately take note of markings dotting his body similar to my own. His eyes are now much darker, with a white corona around his iris. He seems to share a similar bewilderment as he halts his attack as well.
We pause like this for 10 seconds, before pointing to each other.
...
"Y-You're Chosen!" We both shout in unison.
WOOHOO! COVELIGHT II: VALKYRIE BABY! IT'S FINALLY TIME! I've been so excited to write Valkyrie, as I've put a LOT of love and thought into Valkyrie, way more than Covelight 1 and even the upcoming Covelight 3. Twists and turns! Action! Mystery! Romance! Horror! THIS STORY'S GOT IT ALL, FRIENDS! AND I FOR ONE CAN'T WAIT TO TELL IT!
Aha, got a bit carried away there. The new character here, Vision, is the Protagonist to the upcoming, Nightbring: A Pokemon AU, written by Evolution with yours truly as his editor-slash-Cowriter. I figure that I should include more representation from the other sides of the Robber Force AU, even if Covelight is the only one to be written as of right now. So expect Vision to stick around for a while!
So, with that out of the way, Chapter 1 of That Snivy is next, coming on Valentine's. I'm thinking I'm gonna alternate between both stories, have one chapter of CL2:V and then one of TSvy, and then back to CL2:V and so on. That way my mind stays fresh and I don't get writer's block.
With all that out of the way, stay tuned my friends! It's gonna be a wild ride.
This is SavageCaliber22, also known as Elysium, over and out!
