Okay, so, I'm turning this into an actual thing, it seems.

I'm gonna be honest, I've never done one of these series rewrites before, so, it'll be interesting to see how this develops.

Anyhow, this chapter mostly focuses on setting up the main four's relationship. Granted, I can't improve upon the perfection that was the series pilot, but hey, I'll try.

And now, to the chapter!

Rosemary gasped as she found herself in that place again. That horrible, awfulplace.

She was resting in the middle of a grassfield, surrounded by several patches of pink roses, the mild breeze making them rustle as the pinkette stood up and looked around.

"Mom?" she called.

Nothing happened.

"Mommy?"

Still nothing… for a brief moment.

But once that moment passed, something emerged from the flowers: a woman with lavender hair and silver armor, who turned around and flashed a smile at the pinkette.

"Mom!"

Rosemary dashed towards the woman, completely oblivious as to how the roses began to turn black as she ran past them.

Rosemary edged her arms towards the woman, and once she got close enough, she prepared to leap…

*SPLAT!*

Rosemary stopped, feeling a strange liquid hitting her face. She reached for it, and looked at it…

And it was blood.

"Mom?"

She turned back to the woman, whose extended hand now held a sword, while another pierced her chest.

"Mom?!"

The woman leaned back and collapsed, dropping the sword as Rosemary ran to her side and grabbed her.

"Mom?! Mom?! Mommy! MOMMY!"

"LAVENDER!"

Rosemary gasped for breath as she looked around, skin as pale as snow and bathing in her sweat.

On one side, she had the same sword in her nightmare on the wall, with a bookshelf next to it.

And on her other side was Sage, sitting on the other side of the bed, while looking at her with worry.

But this wasn't the bedroom they were used to. This was the bedroom of the Guardian Academy, reminding her of what happened.

"Oh, right, right, we, we-we-" the pinkette snapped her fingers as she tried to remember. "We passed the entrance exam!"

"Yeah, we did," Sage said as she took off her hat. "We got orientation after that and moved here."

The inside of Sage's hat glowed, and the magician promptly reached inside it and took out something that brought a smile to Rosemary's face.

A cheesecake.

"Yes, I remember now," Rosemary sighed as she grabbed the cheesecake and began to eat it. "We both ate spices. You got the power of… of…"

"Hydromist," Sage answered before breathing, summoning a mist from her mouth that she soon turned into an ice cube. "I can summon a mist I can then turn into either water or ice."

"Oh, right, that old thing," Rosemary bit the cheesecake, moaning in delight as some of her color returned. "And I got… I got… what did I get again?"

*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*

The girls exchanged looks, and Sage promptly left the bed, leaving Rosemary to eat her cheesecake while she answered the door.

"Hello there, Sage Mary!"

The blonde dwarf and redheaded elf from before appeared outside, bringing a smile to Sage's face.

"Oh hey! Parsley and Thyme, right?" the bluette answered. "What a delightful surprise! What brings you here?"

"Thyme was feeling very impatient not being able to see your pretty face," Parsley quipped, earning a flick on the nose from the elf. "So we thought we'd pay you a visit. You don't mind?"

"Absolutely, anything to make new friends: please come in."

The dwarf and elf entered the room, and Sage closed the door as they inspected it, all while Rosemary kept eating her cheesecake without a care in the world.

"Sweet, it's just like our room!" Parsley chirped. "Oh, and that sword on the wall is pretty cool-"

"DON'T TOUCH IT!"

Rosemary threw her cheesecake in the air, which Sage caught as the pinkette got between the dwarf and the sword.

"If you value your life, don't touch it! Don't approach it! Don't even look at it!"

"Relax, girl, I was just saying," Parsley chuckled. "You really love that sword, don't you?"

Sage put the cheesecake on a table and went to Rosemary's side, speaking for her as she breathed heavily:

"The sword used to belong to her mother."

That was all Rosemary needed to hear to calm down instantly.

"She's… not exactly around anymore, and Rosemary was… heavily affected by her lo-"

"Sorry."

The girls turned to look at Rosemary, who twiddled her fingers while looking at the ground.

"I get… volatile, when I'm reminded of my mom… or the sword…"

"No, it's okay, I'm also at fault here," Parsley waved her hand dismissively. "I should've asked about the sword before bringing attention to it."

Parsley extended her hand forward. "Forgive and forget?"

Rosemary nodded and high fived Parsley, who looked surprised before returning the high five.

And while that happened, Sage approached Thyme, saying:

"So, your friend says you don't talk a lot. Is that by choice or are you one of those "mute" people I've heard about?"

Thyme opened her mouth, but quickly covered it. She looked around as she closed it, and once she calmed down, she took a deep breath and gestured:

-Words bring arguments. Arguments bring conflict. I don't want either.-

"... I didn't understand any of that, so I'll just assume it's by choice," Sage answered with a little nod. "Is that okay with you?"

Thyme paused, then nodded with a little smile before flashing a thumbs up.

"Great! So," Sage clasped her hands. "Is that all you wanted?"

"Of course not! We wanna get to know our classmates better!" Parsley answered, patting Sage's back. "So, what can you tell us about yourselves?"

"I like cheesecake," Rosemary casually answered while eating the cheesecake.

"Yeah, that's a good start, but I was looking for more… personal stuff," Parsley said as she sat down. "You know, goals in life, hopes and dreams, stuff like that. What would you like to do with your lives?"

"Become a guardian!" Rosemary answered cheerfully.

"And then what?" Parsley raised an eyebrow. "Becoming a Guardian only gives you permission to become the paid defender of a location or person or whatever. What comes after that?"

Rosemary's smile slowly faltered, her vision falling on the floor as she began to look more and more troubled.

"I got something I'd like to do!" Sage blurted as she sat down next to Parsley. "When I grow older, I wanna take over as High Priest and find a way to undo New Magic's damaging effects!"

"Ah, I see," Parsley lowered her eyelids. "You're one of those Old Magic believers, aren't you?"

"Well, I was raised in an old fashioned way," Sage admitted with a little chuckle. "And… I have seen what careless misuse of New Magic can do…"

Sage's smile also slowly faltered… and upon seeing this, Thyme immediately sat next to Sage and gestured:

-When I get older, I wanna find a way to reintegrate elfkind to the world at large!-

A startled Sage stared at Thyme for a moment before raising an eyebrow, prompting Parsley to explain:

"She said her goal is to find a way to make elves coexist with everybody once again."

"Elves?" Sage turned back to Thyme. "I thought the plural was elfs?"

Thyme thought about it, then did the "50/50" gesture while shrugging.

"Well, my turn!" the blonde dwarf said. "I wanna become something other than a blacksmith!"

"Like a Guardian?" Rosemary asked innocently.

"That's a start, but I mean something else," Parsley answered. "As you know, dwarves-"

"Isn't it dwarfs?" Sage blurted.

"-Are commonly seen as blacksmiths, but I…" Parsley took a deep breath. "Kinda suck at smithing."

"Well, that's not really a bad thing," Sage remarked. "As long as you don't-"

"Everybody else in my family has at least some smithing capabilities."

"-Stick out like a sore thumb."

Sage rubbed her forehead in frustration while Parsley nodded with her smile remaining intact.

It was then that Rosemary sat next to Parsley, offering the dwarf her half-eaten cheesecake.

"Would you like some?"

The dwarven girl grabbed the cheesecake and took a bite out of it, prompting Rosemary to lighten up.

"It's good, isn't it?"

Parsley nodded. "Real good."

"I know, right?!" Rosemary clapped happily. "Cheesecake is the best!"

Sage giggled before she got an idea. She took off her hat, and reached for it once it glowed, taking out three more cheesecakes for herself and the others.

"So, Rosemary, right?" Parsley remarked. "What do you wanna do?"

Rosemary blinked. "Oh, my goal? Well, I guess…"

The pinkette turned to Sage, who nodded with a supportive smile. And so, with a smile of her own, Rosemary answered:

"I wanna fill the void that Mom… no, Lavender left behind."
