A/N: Sorry for the late post, I've been sick this week—but what better way to pass the time than writing lol. Really been enjoying reading your theories! Anyway, this one is a little short, but I hope y'all enjoy.

The curtain of comfortable darkness dissipated, replaced by the warm, but now blaring, light from the sun. Her eyes darted at the sudden stimulus before fluttering open, letting out a heavy sigh as she stretched, setting herself upright in the passenger seat of the car. The sun reflected off the water, glimmering as they flew down the long stretch of road at an alarming, but surprisingly still legal rate.

"Do you feel rested?"

Reflexively stretching again, she let out a small groan before answering, "Yeah, how long was I out?"

"2 hours." Her eyes bulged at the answer," You should be getting to bed earlier. It's not healthy to be this exhausted during waking hou—"

"Hey, Chisaki, I think there's something in your eye."

"What?" He glanced over as they made a turn down a smaller road.

"A giant ass log. I know you're not lecturing me about healthy sleep schedules with the wild hours you keep..." she chided, now folding her arms as the shade from the forest they were entering blocked much of the direct sunlight.

"Don't deflect. You know I'm right." He replied simply, his face blank, though Nanami noticed the slightest of pouts in his expression at being called out.

"Even if you were," they turned down another street and she began noticing his eyes were now checking the rearview mirror more frequently, "it's not like I could anyway. Between work and this, it shouldn't be too surprising..." she trailed off, no longer invested in the argument as they turned down yet another road, his eyes now looking into the rearview more than the road in front of them. "What is it?"

"We're being followed." He stated evenly, though Nanami found herself very nervous as she began to turn," Don't look. By the way they're tailing, they still think we're unaware. It's better to keep it that way."

Swallowing the lump now in her throat, she kept her posture facing forward, but spared a glance into the sideview. A simple silver sedan followed two car lengths behind. "So, what do we do now?"

"Lose them." He turned down yet another road, though this one was larger with more markings, including a number of signs with outlines of deer. Picking up speed as they approached a bend, Nanami found herself clutching the handle on the side of the door to brace herself. Their tail in turn accelerated to match their speed. Just as they crested the bend, a familiar blur of brown darted across the road and they swerved to avoid it, going off the road. Shortly after, they could hear the screech of tires behind them followed by the sound of impact. Never one to dawdle, Overhaul quickly threw the car in reverse before speeding through a makeshift road cutting through the forest. It fed itself back into the small, but much more official road they were previously on as Nanami realized they'd simply gone in a circle.

She let out a sigh of relief as her muscles relaxed, no longer seeing anyone in the rearview as Overhaul's shoulders relaxed as well, ever so slightly. "Well that was a clo—" she was jerked by her seatbelt, following the sound of a loud pop, the screeching of tires now coming from their car as Overhaul regained control of the car, pulling over to the side of the road. "What the hell was that?"

"I'm about to find out. Stay in the car." The tenseness in his voice evident.

"Have you not watched a single horror film? I let you go out alone and next thing you know you're snatched into the tree line by some assailant."

"Nanami, I am the assailant. No one is going to 'snatch' me."

She rolled her eyes, still not ready to accept the decision, "Yeah, yeah I know you're tough, but why risk it? We have no idea what happened to whoever was following us. Besides, aren't you the one always saying I need to stick close?"

"I'm aware of what I said,"

"Then let's do it," she intoned, concern and persistence clear in her eyes, "I'll be the lookout."

Narrowing his eyes, he stared for a beat before letting out a small huff, "Be on guard." He acquiesced.

Exiting the car, they went to survey the damage, seeing all four tires had been punctured. His eyes quickly scanned the area, though Overhaul was careful to keep his body language relaxed. Kneeling, a gloved hand ran over the fissures in the rubber as he examined the damage more closely, recognizing immediately what had caused it. As he was about to begrudgingly remove his glove to fix the wheel that was undoubtedly covered in all manner of bacteria, Nanami put a hand on his shoulder, "Someone's coming."

Rustling could be heard a little ways down the road as they watched intently where the sound was coming from. A man emerged. He was non-descript, carrying a walking stick in clothes appropriate for a hike. The scene was innocuous enough, but something about his smile as he locked eyes on them made Nanami thoroughly uneasy. Something about it just isn't right. She thought to herself, hoping her gut feeling hadn't shown on her face as he approached them. She kept a firm hand on Chisaki's shoulder in the hopes that he would choose a more passive path in in dealing with the stranger if one was available.

The stranger waved with his free hand, casually closing the distance between them until they were close enough to see the details of his face, though none were of any note, though Nanami could've sworn for a moment his eyes were missing their whites. "Hi there, looks like you guys are having some car trouble."

Overhaul rose behind her, her hand sliding to the back of his arm, giving it a soft squeeze, hoping he'd understand she wanted to do the talking first. "Yeah, we must've hit a nail or something, but we'll be fine." She reassured him in a friendly tone.

He leaned a little to the right, surveying the damaged car behind them, "Miss, that's gotta be a pretty big nail to do all that," his eyes shifted back to hers, and though he was remaining friendly, there was an undercurrent of accusation in his tone.

She smiled cordially, "No worries, we've got it covered."

"Are you sure? I could take you two into town, there's a trail just up ahead."

"Oh no thank you, we'll just wait here for roadside assistance—we just called."

He hummed to himself for a beat," This far out, that could take a minute." He continued, checking his watch.

Nanami tensed, but tried her best not to show it, "But I thought you said that town was just a short ways away?"

He smiled, though it never reached his eyes," That I did. So where did you two say you were coming from?"

"We didn't. I think we'll just wait for a tow to come by, just called a bit ago so it shouldn't be too long. Thank you for checking on us though." Nanami said politely, though there was a sternness that she hoped the stranger would take as a hint to leave.

He looked down for a moment as though he was thinking of something to say, but decided against it, "Alright then, I'll leave you two to your business. I hope you enjoy your stay in Hiho."

"Who said we were going there?"

His face stretched once again, the uneasy pit in Nanami's stomach growing heavier with each crease that formed with his toothy grin. "You two be safe." He went on, ignoring her question. Tipping his head to them, he turned back from whence he came, disappearing as quickly as he'd appeared. Nanami gulped, knowing better than to take the interaction lightly.

"What is it?" Chisaki asked, noticing her grip on his arm had tightened throughout the conversation with the stranger. Just as she was about to answer, a silver sedan drove past them at a conspicuous pace, a blood stain on its dented grill. The driver turned to smile, the familiar, non-descript face waving at them as he drove by. In short time, three more cars pulled from the "trail" he'd come from earlier before disappearing down the road.

"I don't know who they were, but that man wasn't normal."

"I'd be inclined to agree with you on that. Most of what he said was a lie, there wasn't spec of dirt on the boots he was wearing to 'hike'."

"…That just confirms it."

"Confirms what?"

"That watch he was checking… I grabbed you because I could sense you were about to use our quirk. It's not an ordinary timepiece."

"Respectfully, spit it out."

Still too shaken to even roll her eyes, she replied," That watch is designed to detect quirk activity. He was waiting for us."

Raising his chin, a grave look came across his features as they both turned to look down the road the mystery caravan had gone down. "At least it seems he wasn't lying about us being close."
