Three days further
I am here for three days now, and it feels like I am working nonstop for a year, but you know what, I do not even care. I am really enjoying work. I am not bored, keeping myself busy, not needing to go to those stupid dinner parties my parents almost have every day during summer. Really, I mean it, summer is like crazy for all the billionaires and millionaires, it is like this is the only season of the year that they feel so obligated to go to each other's house, having super expensive dinners only to show off, and then when these very busy weeks are over, see August, then they all go to those places that only rich people go to for their holiday. I still do not understand why rich people are like this.
Anyway, today it is the first demonstration I will experience, and it is going to be late. Johnny told me that most of these things are in the evenings, hence why I need to work until ten in the evening, but then he and Penny always go for a drink after, well, Penny is not always going with him, but it does worries me on how much he drinks. I mean, if it only was when he is going out after work, but he most often starts already in the afternoon.
"Can you get these records? We need them."
I look at him as he hands me a list. I take it and look at it.
"You just came from the dance room."
"You're my assistant, I need to fix something first before we go."
"Anything else?"
"Yes, make sure to take a few towels, and my ballroom jacket, it's at the dry cleaner."
"What time do we need to be there?"
"At eight."
"All right, I'm going to get these records now and then go to the dry cleaner, you got the receipt from the dry cleaner?"
"Oh, um…"
I swear, he would lose his precious bottom if that would not have been attached to his gorgeous body. Stop it, Frances, just do your job. I need to do so much really, the organizing for the summer season is not fully round even. Though Max Kellerman has phoned already to confirm the agreement this year, a few things have changed, Max needs to pay more, but Johnny and Penny will do an extra show at another hotel for it, and I since I am going too, I needed to make sure I would be having a cabin too.
Believe me, organizing a charity event is way easier then getting through to Max Kellerman. I stand up and he looks at me, a little bewildered. I see his expression and start smiling, this is his I have no idea what I am doing with my job expression. It is adorable.
"Don't worry, I'll find it, just go do whatever you need to do."
"Thanks… Baby."
In a spontaneous action, he lays his hand on my shoulder, making me jump a little. He quickly pulls his hand away from me, like he has burned himself. I look at his face, and somehow I feel a little disappointed, but I try to hide that. I inhale deeply.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay, go."
He turns and goes away. I close my eyes as I let out a deep sigh. He has touched me, and it felt electrifying. Oh come on, reader, you would react the same way if you were in my place, believe me.
"Be still, heart."
I have to tell that to myself so often. I know I said I should not fall for him, but that is a little too late now. I am trying to stay professional, so at least I know I can be around him every day. I just need to try not to get any hopes.
Oh, work, yes, I need to fix these things before I can go and get myself a quick dinner. I went to the dance room, to the record player and the records cabinet. I let out a deep sigh, what a mess. He always makes such a mess everywhere he works. You have no idea how messy his desk is, you do not want to know either.
"Now I need to clean this first."
Do not mind me too much, reader, I talk often to myself, to remind myself I am not going crazy. I start to take the used records and arrange them in the cabinet. Penny came inside the room and sees me being busy.
"What are you doing?"
"I need to get these records for this evening."
I hold the list up. She came closer and takes it from me.
"Have you picked these?"
"No, my boss did."
"That explains, you need help?"
"I'm alright here, aren't you busy?"
"I've done everything already that should be done today. I wanted to ask Johnny to have dinner with me, but he's gone."
"Yeah, he needed to do something before this evening."
"Hmm, prolly one of his girls."
I roll my eyes as I pick up a record and look at the cover. Time of my life. I smile, this is my favorite song of all time. Yes, I know, an eighties' record, but I love oldies for real. So much better music than the music they make these days. Penny is watching me and sees my smile. She kneels next to me since I am on my knees. I look at her and see her smile.
"This is my all-time favorite song."
"Johnny's too."
I start to frown. She takes the record from me and looks at the cover.
"I wouldn't have thought."
"I know, no one would have. Johnny builds a wall to everyone, except for those who are close to his heart."
"That means, only you."
"No, not only me, Billy too."
"That's his cousin, right?"
"Yeah, they're very close, like brothers, and his father is close to his heart too, only they aren't on a good place right now."
"I don't really know the situation they're in, but I do understand him when it comes to having a father who pushes him to do things he does not like to do."
Penny let out a deep sigh, I keep looking at her as she puts the record in the cabinet.
"They weren't always like this, I mean, his father never has been easy on him, but that's because he wants Johnny to make something of his life, he wants Johnny to take over the business one day."
"I get it, and I'm sure Johnny will be a great leader of this company one day."
"You've got more faith in him than he does himself."
"Well, someone needs to, Penny, if he doesn't get any support and some positive energy from anyone around him, he'll end up in a worse state of mind."
"I'm really glad you took the job, you know?"
"You've said so several times already."
I watch her chuckle, she is beautiful, for reals. I wonder if she had a thing with Johnny. She sees my thoughtful face, and starts to smile.
"We never dated, we did had sex once, when we were teenagers."
"Really?"
"Yes, I wanted to know how it felt, but it didn't do anything to me."
"You're like brother and sister, I can see that."
"Yeah, I'm so happy he's in my life. I don't have any siblings and my mother threw me out when I was sixteen. I became a Rockette right after that, it was my saving, I lived at Johnny's house for a while, well his father's house. Anyway, you need to do some more work after this?"
Now I really wonder about her past and about Johnny's life and past too. I am so intrigued by them. I mean, Johnny is rich, that I know now, he is actually a billionaire according to his heritage, but he does not act like he is, even if his father says otherwise, and Penny, she is famous, I do not know if she is rich, I do know she does not have to worry about anything since Johnny would do everything for her. But she is famous, and she is not acting like it.
I know it is only a few days now that I work with them, but they feel so welcome and warm. It is a feeling I do not want to lose anymore.
"I need to go to the dry-cleaner, but Johnny doesn't know where the receipt is."
"It's at my desk, I always make sure I take these things to my office, because I know he'll lose them."
I chuckle a little about it. I look at the list and see the record laying on the staple, I take it and put it on the staple that we need this evening.
"He'll lose his bottom one day."
Penny starts to laugh about that. I cannot help but I am laughing with her. I watch her standing up.
"Would you like to have dinner with me?"
"You don't have any plans with Johnny?"
"Not as far as I know, he hasn't asked me anything and he's gone like you said."
"Sure, I haven't made any plans myself anyway and they don't expect me to be at home for dinner today."
"Great, I know a very good place."
"Something expensive?"
Penny sees my expression and I see her starting to smile.
"No, quite the opposite. I'll go and make reservations, and I'll get that dry-cleaner receipt."
I only nod and watch her walking away, I look at the records again and inhale deeply.
