I have eaten enough, mom has outdone herself this time. I look at my parents and they are smiling as they are talking to Johnny. I look at Lisa and see she is very quiet. I start to frown. She is so off lately, we do not speak much anymore, and every time I come home, she goes away. It is like she is avoiding me. I would not want my sister to avoid me, even if we do not always get along, she is still my sister.
"Are you okay, Lisa?"
She looks up at me and then down at her plate, she is playing with her food.
"Sis?"
"I'm nothing, Baby, nothing compared to you, why do you want to talk to me?"
"What do you mean? You're my sister and I want to talk to you."
"Since you've got a boyfriend you're not much around."
I look at her face, the others are looking at her as well.
"Why aren't you happy for Baby?"
"Because, dad, it's always about her, never about me. No one ever asks me how I feel, or what I want."
I can see there is something she want to say but she does not dare to tell us. I start to frown about that, and it makes me wonder.
"What do you want to tell us, sis?"
"That there's something wrong with me, and I'll never be like you, I'll never make mom and dad proud the way you do. I will always be in your shadow."
"You're my sister, I won't let you be in my shadow."
"You would when I say that I'm a lesbian. There I said it. I'm a lesbian."
She starts to cry. I quickly stand up and walk around to table to her. She looks up at me and I grab her into a hug, making her cry harder. I do not care what her sexuality is, I just want her to be able to speak her mind, and I know she wants to feel accepted the way she is.
"I'll never let you walk in my shadow, no matter what, you're my sister and I want you next to me."
Lisa grabs me tightly as she keeps crying. I look at mom and dad, they do not seem to be surprised. I guess they have seen it already, but just decided not to say anything. I wonder about all the boys she dated. Johnny is looking at me. I see his smile and he nods. I smile back at him and hug my sister a little tighter.
"I love you, sis."
I whisper in her ear. I let her go and take the napkin, she looks at my face and sees my smile as I try to dry her face. She scoffs a little and I giggle. She takes the napkin to dry her face herself. She looks at mom and dad.
"We were wondering when you were going to tell us, Lissy."
Lisa sees her mother's smile and inhales deeply.
"I didn't found the right moment."
"There's never a right moment, but I'm happy you did, I'm sure it will be a lot easier from now on."
Lisa stands up and went to mom and dad, they hug her tightly as I went back to my seat. Johnny takes my hand and smiles at me. I look at him with a smile and he gives me a kiss.
"You always told us you were having dates with guys."
Lisa looks at me and inhales deeply.
"I tried a few dates with guys, to see if something was wrong with me, and of course not to disappoint any of you, but since about a few months I've got a girlfriend."
"I would love to meet her, sweetie."
Lisa looks at dad who nods at her, she starts to smile and sits down again.
"Thanks, dad, that means so much."
"So, are you ready for dessert?"
Mom smiles as she stands up. On that moment Johnny's phone went off. He takes it out of his pocket and looks at the number. He starts to frown and answers the call.
"Hello?"
"Well, hello son, I didn't know you would answer a number you don't know."
"What do you want, mother?"
I start to frown and see his face. He takes my hand and inhales deeply. The rest is looking curious.
"I had a little chat with your father."
"What did you do to dad?"
"Oh, nothing, don't you worry."
"What do you want?"
"Something that should be mine."
"You'll never going to get that."
"Oh but I will, and you know how?"
Johnny did not answer to that question, he keeps looking at me.
"I know about your little girlfriend, and if your father isn't going to give me what I want, you will never see her again."
Johnny swallows and closes his eyes. He hears his mother ending the phone-call. I am getting worried. He stands up and looks at us.
"If you excuse me."
He walks to the living room. I stand up and follow him after I told mom, dad, and Lisa to stay in the dining room. I look at him pacing, he looks at his phone and dials his father's number. I came closer to him, and he looks at my face.
"Ron Castle's phone, this is Leo speaking."
"Leo?"
My eyebrows go up, I can see Johnny is astonished as well.
"Yes, Johnny, your father is here with us. He can't be on the phone right now because the doctor is taking care of his black eye."
"What happened?"
"He said that your half-brother punched him."
"God damnit!"
Mom and dad came to see what is going on when they hear Johnny cursing. I take his hand and take him to the couch.
"I want to talk to my father."
"Wait, I put this thing on speaker."
Johnny waits a second. I make him to sit down, he needs to calm down. He puts his own phone on speaker as well.
"Dad?"
"Son."
"What did she do?"
"She came to the company, threatening me, and then that bastard punched me on my face and told me that this was his present for you."
Johnny starts to growl deeply from anger. I sit down next to him, he looks at me and tries to calm down. Getting angry is useless right now, I get he is frustrated and angry for what happened to Ron, but what can he do?
"Are you with Baby?"
"Yes, I'm here at her parents' house."
"Will you stay there?"
"Dad… I'm not going to hide anymore."
"I don't want to lose you, son."
"You're not going to lose me."
"You've got no idea what your mother is capable of."
Johnny starts to cry. There, this instant, I never seen him burst out like this. I grab him into a hug. Mom went to the kitchen to get a glass of water.
"She called me, about a minute ago or so."
"What did she say?"
"She threatened me she would do harm to Baby when you don't give her what she wants."
I look at him. I look at dad and Lisa who are getting scared. Mom came with the glass and gives it to Johnny who thanks her. I am getting really scared now.
"What has my daughter to do with this?"
Ron and pops hear dad.
"My ex-wife thinks Baby is an easy target."
"How much does she want? I'll help you out."
"Jake, don't, it's useless."
Mom frowns a little.
"What does she want from you?"
"She wants my company, and she threatened me that if I don't give her the papers within three weeks, she will do harm to Baby."
I look at mom. I know she is scared too, but tries not to show that. Johnny sees my face and grabs me after he lays his phone on the table. What will she do to me? I have never been this scared in my life. I always thought I never would get scared like this. What if she will hurt me? I do not want to get hurt.
"Three weeks? Isn't everyone at Kellerman's by then?"
The question came from Lisa.
"Yes, but she knows Johnny will be there with Baby."
"But she doesn't know we will be there too, does she?"
I look at Lisa as I think. What is she trying to say? It is quiet for some moments. Leo clears his throat.
"I think I know what Lissy is trying to say."
"What, dad?"
"We can try to make her confess what she wants to do, we can do this at Kellerman's. If this works, she can finally be arrested."
Did my grandfather just made a plan to uncover the villain? I always thought that he was the one who would rather help the victims, which is actually true if you look at Ron and Johnny. But I am not so sure this plan will work, Johnny's mother sounds like a smart woman, at least one who knows what she is doing. My guess is that she will find out soon what we are up to.
"We need to sit around the table and talk about this."
"How about this weekend at my place? Ron is staying here, he'll be safe here."
"Great idea, dad, then I can finally make my casserole with mom again."
"Mom."
She looks at me and smiles. How can she be so happy right now? My life is at stake. Or maybe I am taking this out of context.
"Good, we'll see you coming on Saturday."
"I'm going to work tomorrow, dad."
"Don't you prefer to stay at Baby's?"
"I'm not going to hide anymore. Besides, Pen is still in the hospital, and someone needs to do the lessons. And Baby need to teach her new employee as well, we got to do as if everything is normal, as if we don't know mom has been threatening you."
I could hear Ron sigh deeply and nana coming into the room, whichever room they are sitting in, to make sure if they are alright and to see if they want to drink something. I smile as I hear them talking. I am glad that Ron decided to go to my grandparents.
"Oh, I got the papers from the resignation for Amanda on my desk, Baby will you take care of it? I'm not going to come to the company for a few days. She is watching me."
"I figured as much, I'll take care of it."
"Thanks, Baby."
I bury my face at the pit of Johnny's throat when he takes me in his arms again. His hugs are so comforting.
"I'll send you a text message with the new code, son. I've changed it, I don't know how she got the code in first place, but she had it."
"Okay, dad, I'll open up the building tomorrow."
"Thanks, son."
"I love you, dad."
"I love you too, son."
He ends the call and stands up. We watch him pacing again. I can see he is frustrated about this. I stand up and he stops.
"I'm going to bed, if you don't mind."
I went upstairs to my bedroom without saying another word.
