There is a knock on the door, and we all look at it. Johnny smiles and went to the door. I see Jamie getting nervous and scared.
"Don't be scared."
"I try, but I did punch Johnny's father."
"Just apologize to him. It will be fine."
"Okay."
Johnny opens the door and sees Billy and his father. He smiles, but they are not smiling at him.
"You want to come inside, or stay outside?"
"I just want to know why you think it's a good idea to let your half-brother inside."
"Dad…"
"Son."
Johnny sees his father's face. Billy went inside with the food and looks at Jamie, he has never seen Jamie before. I smile as I look at Billy. I introduced Jamie to him, and Billy starts to ask Jamie out. I guess he will be getting a lot of questions from everyone. He will need our support because he is not used to all the attention.
"Dad, come on."
"You do know he punched me, right?"
"And he's sorry, he wants to apologize."
"And why should I believe him?"
"Because Baby and I do."
Ron looks at his son's face and sees he is being serious about this. Johnny is watching his father, putting his hands in his pockets as he waits for him to come inside.
"Come on, dad, please?"
"Fine."
Ron steps inside and I look at him. I can see he is not totally happy about this. Ron looks at us and sees me eating already.
"Hey, Baby."
"Hey."
Ron looks at Jamie who stands up and puts his hands in his pockets. He is agitated when he sees Ron's expression. I inhale deeply and swallow the food. Billy sits on a chair with a beer and is watching the situation as well with a watchful eye.
"Ron, I want you to meet Jamie."
"Sir?"
Ron keeps watching Jamie's face and folds his arms. Johnny came to me, and sits down on the bed. We all watch them. I can feel the tensions rising again. Jamie looks down.
"I want to apologize for what I did."
"Look at me, boy."
Jamie looks up again, Ron is watching Jamie's face carefully.
"Now say that again."
"I want to apologize for what I did."
"And you won't tell your mother about being here?"
"Never, I swear, I never wanted to hurt anyone."
"Then why did you try to poison my son, and why did you punch me on my face?"
"Because mom told me to, but I didn't know about the poison until Johnny found it in my pocket."
Ron keeps watching Jamie's face, specifically his eyes. He can see the regret. It is the same as he sees in his son's eyes. He inhales deeply and let the air go out fast.
"How old are you?"
"Twenty-one."
We see Ron getting confused about that. Just like Johnny was confused about it as well. I see Ron's frown getting real deep as he thinks.
"Wait, I thought she had you when she disappeared for a year when Johnny was about fifteen, how is this possible?"
"Dad? Did she disappeared as well when I was twelve?"
Ron thinks about this, and then his eyes widen when he seems to remember something.
"She did, but not for a full year, how did I not saw that she was pregnant? She did gained weight back then, she told me she was going to her parents in Nevada for some time, it was for a couple of months. I never asked her parents if she was truly there."
Aha, so she disappeared for months so her pregnancy would not be noticed and then left Jamie with his father to come back to Ron. But does that mean that she has another child somewhere else? It must be, why else would she disappear a full year, and then come back to make Ron's life miserable again. WHo knows how many children she truly has.
"Dad, I thought you discovered the first affair when I was eight."
"Yes, I did, it was the first time I walked in on her, so who knows how often she has been cheating on me already before that."
That woman is a classic gold-digger, marrying a billionaire for his money, but having lovers all over the country because she does not really want to be close to her husband. Yet, she gave him a son, is that why she repulses Johnny so much? He does look after his father a lot, except for the eyes. Now she is divorced from Ron, and she tried to milk him out, when this did not work, she tries to put a scheme on him to get his company. We all know that she only wants the money anyway, she does not care about the company itself. I wonder how many men have been falling into her trap.
"This means that she probably has another child somewhere else, or maybe even more than one other child. She has been disappearing on and off, and always came back to make you miserable again, Ron."
They look at me, and then back at each other. Ron thinks about it. Then he nods.
"Yes, she always made the excuse that she needed time for herself."
"Then she probably has another child or children somewhere else."
"You think Jamie and I have more siblings, Baby?"
I look at Johnny who is getting confused. I nod at him and look at Jamie for a moment as I think about this. It must be true, I think if it is only one other child, it is a girl, if more, then probably the fathers are protecting them against her. But who know, right? I could be wrong as well.
"Yes, I think so, and I even think if it's only one other child, that this is a girl, not a boy."
"Why would you think that?"
I look at Billy who stands up. I see his serious expression, though I do not see him disagreeing with me on this. I guess he might have been thinking about this possibility as well.
"If it was a boy, she would've probably used him too in her scheme to get the company. If that child is born during her year in New Mexico, than this child is actually only ten years old. I could be wrong, I mean, if there's another child, then the chances are as well that hers or his father is protecting him or her from your ex-wife."
Ron looks at me as he thinks about it. I look at Johnny, then at Jamie and as last at Billy who is nodding while he is thinking. I guess it does not even surprises any of us if that would be the case. At least, I am not surprised about that.
"In my whole married life I always thought that I wasn't good enough for her."
"Turns out, you were too good for her, Ron. You've married a gold-digger, otherwise she wouldn't try to get your company. I don't get why she's so obsessed with it."
"She knows that if she sells the company, she'll stay a part of the board of directors, and she'll get about eight billion for the company."
This woman is nuts, that is a true fact, but the company is worth a lot for a none corporate business. It is a little gold mine. I know Ron could sell it too, but he loves his company too much. I have seen many people from other corporate businesses going in and out at Ron's office.
"There are corporate businesses who are very interested in buying me out. They know I've got a huge customer base, a really good reputation, and I cover all dance styles. My company would be a huge asset to theirs, and that's the interest to my ex-wife. She would sell the company in a heartbeat."
Johnny stands up and looks at his father. Then he looks at Billy and Jamie and eventually at me. I can see he wants to protect his family, and the company which is his legacy.
"I'm not going to let her get away with what she wants to do."
"Neither will I, son, that's why I'm going to talk to Baby's lawyer."
"What about your own lawyer?"
"Baby's lawyer is the best in New York State, and I think I need the best to get this over with."
"I would like if you take Jamie with you to that meeting."
Ron looks at me and then at Jamie. He thinks about it and then nods. I know Jamie would tell everything that his mother has been telling him. I actually really do believe him to be on our side.
"That's only when he's on our side."
"I am, I don't want to do this anymore, I never asked to be in this situation."
Ron nods at him and Jamie exhales deeply. I can see he is getting more at ease. I take his hand and smile at him. He gives me a smile back. Ron is watching us as he thinks.
"And I accept your apology, boy, but I do want to know everything."
"What do you mean?"
"Why did you do these things for your mother?"
Billy is only listening now and looking at Jamie. He came closer to me, and I look up at him. He sits down next to me and looks at me. I see his curious expression.
"How do you do this?"
"Do what?"
"This."
He nudges his head to Ron and Jamie. They have started to talk. Well, that means that Ron is asking Jamie out. Johnny is smiling as he is watching them, drinking his beer.
"Oh… um… your cousin calls it the Baby way."
Billy looks at Johnny, then he starts to chuckle about it as he looks back at me. Johnny looks at us with a smile. He sits down at my other side, and lays his arm around me, and I smile happily. I feel really happy and blessed.
"I don't know what you do, but somehow you get people together who used to hate each other. Or you reason between best friends."
"Or she makes rude employees to be respectful and doing their best."
Johnny adds to that. They are flattering me too much now. But I got to admit that I am enjoying these flatteries. I know I sit here with a silly grin on my face. Johnny gives me a kiss on my cheek, and I look at him. He chuckles and I giggle.
"I sound too good to be true, stop it."
"You love the flatteries, Baby."
I giggle again and he gives me a loving kiss. Of course I love these flatteries, but I love helping people more.
"I just don't like drama, fights, or wars. And I think everyone deserves a fair break and a second chance. I will always help people."
It is that simple actually, and I see the things as they are, that is something I have learned from mom and nana. Guess this is what pops meant with the strong line of women. Hmm, that is probably also why my grandparents are so powerful, because of nana. Dad is because of mom, that I know now. So, Johnny will be because of me? I know he has changed so much already, he said it is because of me, and he is no womanizer anymore.
Huh?
It is so strange to think about that, anyway, I let the men talk while I enjoy the company. Oh, and the food of course, it is so delicious.
